BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

What a great freakin’ word. BPAL LOVES TEH SMUT! Three swarthy, smutty musks sweetened with sugar and woozy with dark booze notes.

In the bottle: Sweet, sugary, boozy. Hint of spice.

On me: Pretty much the same as in the bottle, but I'm getting more vanilla out of it on my skin. The booziness is really unique and gives it kind of an exotic feel, to me.

Verdict: Love this scent! Glad I have a bottle.

Rating: 5/5

Well, I thought I had reviewed this - apparently I did not...

Or the review was lost.

So I figured - let's do it again!

In the bottle: That is one boozy little bottle here...

The musks are definitely there - and they're sweet...it's very intense and I cannot wait to get this on my skin!

Wet on skin: The oil is a REALLY dark brown..wow...

This is a super boozey, super musky combo..the sweetness of it just manages to tone it down a little...but mostly while wet I get this booze musk mixture...

Dry down: It almost smells like sandalwood on me, but a little sweeter...

Bizarre.

I sadly don't find myself too in love with Smut.

Oh well.

Ooooh, this is rich. This and Dorian are the bpal blends that made me realize that not only could I wear musk scents, but that I am in love with them. While Dorian has pale, light musk, Smut is dark, dark, dark and dirty. Even the oil is deep brown. I get the lab's delicious sugary note and the booziness on top of the most intense, gorgeous, musk.

I actually wore this to the Pride parade, thinking it was going to be so incredibly hot outside that I might as well wear something that smelled feral, since some body odor was inevitable. Well, amazingly enough, Smut actually sort of complemented my own body's sweaty smell.

10/10. I bought a bottle off someone after trying the imp.

At first, this smells like booze and a dry wood, almost like pencil shavings combined with gerbil chips. After an hour or so, it finally settles down into something nice. It's not quite Snake Oil, but it has a similar sultry feel. Instead of incense, it smells like sweet, red musk. It has a sugared Middle Eastern sexiness to it.

What a perfect name for this scent!!

The smell is sweet, smokey, and exotic. It's a dryness that hits the back of my throat covered blended with a musky kinda of sensual aroma. It's not pretty and it's not dainty!!

Definitely Smutty, gritty, sexy.

I couldn't wear this during the day, but for nights on the prowl this would be perfect.

See I'm Dutch, so no one around me gets it when I say I'm wearing Smut........

But the scent is great! It's potent stuff too :D First time I applied it I put on *way* too much and almost got drunk of the boozy note, which hung around for quite some time......

Then I learned that a little goes a long way with teh Smut and now it's just gorgeous, sexy, boozy, heavy, sugared musks :P And when it's almost gone ( after 8+ hours ) I still get some lovely, spicy vanilla.......

So glad I got a bottle of this!

ooooh this smells like mostly amber and red musk on me and maybe carnation? or at least something spicy, not sure what. everyone seems to be comparing it to snake oil...but i like this a lot better on me than i did snake oil. it's been so long since i tried it, but snake oil turned powdery on me. this is warm and sweet and lovely and i want a bottle right now!

Thanks to Gwallahay for the bottle.

Bottle: I am Musk, hear me roar!

You know what this reminds me of? Remember, Boomers and GenXers, the type of musk incense you could buy in the 70s? This takes me back, seriously. The first whiff is exactly that 70s-era dark musk, before Jovan changed everything and popularized the sweeter types. A second sniff reveals a nice boozy note. . .golden rum, but if there are any others I'm not discerning them.

Oh yeah, this is TEH SMUT alright!

Skin: Immediately after application I can smell the sugar fighting for dominance. But this is MUSK people, and will not be repressed. So thus they begin a drunken dance of seduction.

Drydown: Fortunately, musk and I get along just fine, so this settles down after a while and makes me smell oh so sexy. I guess the musk and the sugar needed the booze to get in the mood, so no more hints of debauchery - just the sweaty blissful aftermath.

And the color of this. . .so deeply dark you know it means business!

Great freakin' word, great freakin' oil. :P

Huh, booze. Or actually, alcohol with stuff. I don't know what's in this but it just remained boozey on my skin, which is a bummer, because I'd love to tell someone I was wearing Smut! Unfortunately, tis not to be, as Smut and me don't get along.

On me this is very, very thick and heavy. It reminds me a lot of Hollywood Babylon, with a lot more musk.

The scent in the bottle is a little off-putting, strong, weird, musky...

On my skin the musk goes insane. Incredibly loud musk, something nice and sweet, and this weird sour scent I can't quite put my finger on.

Some days I love it, some days it nauseated me. The joys of being Gemini.

It's smutty, that's for sure.

In the bottle: Very strong musk with a faint hint of something sweet. I realized with Smut that what I'd been describing as a "perfume-y smell" is most likely musk.

Wet on skin: That strong musk pops up again, temporarily drowning out the other notes.

Drydown: The musk finally settles down and smells almost sweet. I swear I can almost smell a tobacco smell--a chewing tobacco smell. I definitely get the comparisons to Snake Oil but SO smells "brighter" to me, whereas Smut is darker and dirtier.

Overall: I like it and will probably wear it often, though it's not one of my OMG, BPAL! scents.

In the imp, Smut is a great blend of foodiness and sexy musky-ness.

On, one musk starts to rise above the others too much for my taste...and it is not my fave musk---it has more of a traditional perfumey smell.

My friend at work tried this and covets it. I will sell my imp to her. She is a BPAL virgin (hahahahaha...more converts...)

I think I like Sherezade better on me, but I would like to try some more "foody" blends because I really liked the foody notes in this one (if only the musk weren't so heavy on me).

Oh well.

i love teh smut. *grins* so much so, in fact, that i just tracked down a bottle to buy for my very own. imps are just teasers! :P

in the bottle - this was stronger than i anticipated. not in a bad way, though, just in the way that lets us know to use it sparingly lest we perfume everyone around us to death. LOL

on me - nummy sums it up. this smells hot - warms bodies rolling around together kind of hot. this scent makes me feel exceptionally sassy, much to my hubby's pleasure. *grins*

i don't smell foodiness so much as just a sweet layer with all the musk. this definintely works with my skin chemistry. i've heard/read people compare this to snake oil, but i have to disagree. smut wins, hands down.

also, the throw is spectacular. just a smidge of this wonderful scent goes a long way - both in how lovely it smells, and length of time it stays on - over 8 hours!

pure genious. :D

The name pretty much sums it up. It does smell smutty. On me, the musk amps way, way up, so that I can barely smell any sugar or booze. It's not bad, but it's not something I'd wear too much either.

This is one of the darkest oils I've seen so far. It's a very heavy and strong smell. I'm not sure what it is about it but I am drawn to it. I like it and yet I don't. So I'm keeping the imp, even though I don't see myself wearing this that much (I prefer the softer smells)

In the bottle: Sweet and musky, dark.

On me: Sweet musk. I immediately compared it to Vechernyaya (which I remember as being quite musky) and they're completely different. Vechernyaya is light and crisp and businesslike and professional. This is muddled, burnt caramel musky. After a while I got a weird, cherry response, but maybe that's just me smelling sugary things. It would fall into the category of scents like Hellfire '05 and Red Lantern on me, definitely evoking some sort of emotional response. But if I were going to go for that effect, Red Lantern 'went' better with me.

TEH SMUT! I’ve been dying to try this one. (And my label shows two lovely ladies canoodling. Woohoo!)

First sniff: Wow. OK. When a scent immediately makes you go slack-jawed and drooling… Mother of Pearl, this is fantastic. It’s quite boozey – I wonder if my label ladies had a bit of the liquid courage before they scampered off to their corner – but the booziness is gliding on top of something deep and dark and sensuous and wonderful.

Wearing: This is way boozey, but holy wow, the base is incredible. The booze burns off quickly, hallelujah! leaving that gorgeous rich deep sugared musk. Love.

It's very bitter, almost like tobacco...if you cut open a really fresh cigarette and smelled the contents.

I couldn't have said it better myself, but it definitely has a "dirty" smell which I can taste in the back of my throat. :P

Smut

The first time I tried Smut I thought it was mostly a kind of plasticky butterscotch scent, but now when I'm retrying it in my hair it's lovely. A warm, exotic, rich, powdery, golden scent, powdery like the red musk and saffron in some of my favourite blends (Scherezade, The Great Sword of War...) is powdery. I'll definitely cling onto the few precious drops I have.

bottle: pure strong cocoa

wet: coconuts, cocoa, and sweet rum (just a tinge)

drying: starting to smell a little incensy, but still dark cocoa.

I like this scent, but not on me. Maybe a really divine candle

i can't believe i haven't reviewed this yet!

i *heart* teh Smut. and i'm still halfheartedly trying to get one each of all four bottles...

rich and musky and sexy... there's sugar (like brown sugar or raw sugar, rather than frosting or white overprocessed sugar) and some dark, dark rum and enough musk to get drunk on.

i've taken to wearing it when i want to feel.... really, really good...

Smut to me is very, *very* similar to Snake Oil, but with less spices and vanilla. Right after applying it has a bit more patchouli trying to assert itself, but that mellows down and dissapears after a few minutes. At 30 minutes, it smells so much like Snake Oil that I would have to wear them side-by-side to really tell the difference. As Smut dries over an hour or so, it takes on more of a true muskiness with a touch of sweetness to it and reminds me a lot of Czernobog.

I'm a musk girl and Smut makes me very happy! However, I don't think I will be trying to track down a bottle as I can approximate the scent on me with Snake Oil and Czernobog.

Oh my gosh. Another version of sex in a bottle. How do you make such amazing scents Beth? I'm sad I came into the world of BPAL too late to order a giant supply of this one!

This is a bit more feminine on me than Snake Oil (my other fav)..or more perfumey (probably the musk). The two combined though. Oh...my...goodness. I'm in love w/ this scent. :D The boozy notes are incredibly intoxicating. My hubby loves this one alone, but really loves it when layered with Snake Oil.

I'll definitely be searching out bottles of this one. :P

My first review was eaten when the server crashed. Unfortunately, in six months, my opinion hasn't changed about it.

In the bottle: Rubbery red musk and loads of sickly sweet booze.

Wet: Same as in the bottle - full on dirty red musk with sweet booze.

Drydown: Red musk, with its typical overwhelming weird rubbery scent, dominates the blend completely. It has a sweet boozy backdrop, but it's really the main actor on the stage, here, throwing its weight around and putting its rubber scent everywhere.

Overall: Seriously, in this blend, the red musk smells like rubber, and not in a good way. While it certainly evokes the smell of condoms, it's not something that I'd want to smell of or that turns me on. The sweetness of the blend is sickly and unpleasant, and generally, it's much too "in your face". I'll stick to my Loviatar for my porn-blend needs, Smut is much too blatantly dirty to work with me.

After smelling this one, I think the title is a bit inappropriate. I love the scent, but it wasn't exactly what I was envisioning the smell to be like. I would have expected it to be a bit more earthier/natural. Sugar, vanilla, and spice don't exactly spell Smutty for me.

I do love the scent though. It's warm, almost cozy in a way. The type you'd rub on your wrist, before settling down to a good book, and a nice hot cup of tea or coffee.

A definite keeper.
