Calamus

Recommended Posts

I double-checked myself online, and calamus is one of the herbs that was used in Old Testament incense recipes.

It starts out a little sweet, and very green, and mellows to a powerful, spicy scent that seems masculine in nature. It ends up rather clove-like, which killed any appeal it had for me.

Calamus started off smelling sort of like Juicy Fruit bubblegum to me - sweet, slightly of tropical fruits, and slightly powdery. It dried down to something definitely more spicy though. The boy said it smelled like "spicy potpourri" to him, with cinnamon and ginger. It reminds me of the sweet clove single note, but more spicy and perfumey.

Yup. This starts off sweet and herbal and then quickly dries down to something very reminiscent of cloves and black musk to me. A little masculine and musky, but mostly spicy. Not really a note I would wear unless it was blended with something better as a balance.
