  1. [No additional description provided.] This is man's scent to me. Not like Dee or Shadwell that you can get away with wearing as a woman. Not sure if that's the Dead Leaves aspect or the Tuscan Leather. But it's bright in the beginning, unique, expensive seeming men's perfume/cologne.

    Nebulaphobia

Fear of Fog Sinuous, suffocating tendrils of grey ambergris, white frankincense, and cade. Right away it's frankincense balanced nicely with ambergris. I love both notes and the two together are great. Frank lends some brightness to the ambergris. I also detect something that smells like tire rubber. After testing Nebulaphobia I went in search of what Cade smells like and one of the descriptions said it can smell tar-like. So, I think the rubber smell is coming from that note. That sounds unpleasant but its not. The three notes work really well together and are strangely compelling. I had a similar experience with Streets of Detroit where I couldn't believe how well the motor oil note complimented the rest of the blend. Sorry, this review is kinda vague. I have a hard time describing it except to say I like it.

    The Eye of a Vulture

It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night. Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture — a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees — very gradually — I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.

Milky white fluid obfuscating a pale, lilac-blue iris. In the bottle this is all milk.Which frightened me as I often turn milky notes sour on my skin. Skin test: OK this is quite a fresh milky scent on my skin with a very faint 'purple tinge' I think the lavender keeps this from going sour. Minimal throw and minimal lasting power, however I like this fresh creamy scent

    The Witch Bride

A fair witch crept to a young man's side, And he kiss'd her and took her for his bride. But a Shape came in at the dead of night, And fill'd the room with snowy light. And he saw how in his arms there lay A thing more frightful than mouth may say. And he rose in haste, and follow'd the Shape Till morning crown'd an eastern cape. And he girded himself, and follow'd still When sunset sainted the western hill. But, mocking and thwarting, clung to his side, Weary day!-the foul Witch-Bride. (Aw, c'mon, Allingham. Foul is a pretty strong choice of words, dontcha think?) Pale and lovely, with eyes belladonna-wide: hemlock blossoms and ghostly nightshade veiled by wisteria, white frankincense, black amber, and narcissus resin. I'm at a loss as to how to translate the scent experience of witch bride to words so that you, the reader, could gain some understanding of how it smells and decide if it's something you want to seek out. sorry! I blind bought my bottle based upon the label art and the theme and the notes and I adore it. I don't tend to go for straight up florals, and this isn't that. there's a sweet and warm resiny base, and some light florals (my favorite bpal narcissus experience to date!) on top, and it's just a nice beautiful blend. I only detect the herbal notes if I look for them, and I may only be sensing them because I read them in the description. they are subtle and add a nice bit of complexity (spoken by someone who loves very herby winter stars and the waters of the well of wisdom). witch bride is light to moderate in strength. very addciting.

    Pumpkin Spice Perversion

You dirty bird. Incredibly sexy and a must-have for any Perversion fans. Everything dark and alluring about Perversion is still here, but it's shot through with bright streaks of the pumpkin spice. In that way, it smells exactly like you'd expect it to - it doesn't become a different creation. Absolutely gorgeous scent for adventurous autumn nights.
  6. Numanoid

    Pumpkin Latte Hair Gloss

Espresso, pumpkin syrup, smoky vanilla bean, milk, raw sugar, and a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. I always have to try anything the Post (or Lab) puts out that has coffee in it. Again, my sniffer is working at about 96%, so I will do my best. Sniffing, oh yum...I get the espresso and pumpkin first! Very rich and so good. Sprayed in my damp hair, I get all the notes right away! After a few minutes, I get the milky and smoky vanilla. The espresso and pumpkin take a back seat, but this is still so very good. If you loved this in perfume form, then get this. It is also surprisingly not heavy... present, but it stays close to me and has a low to medium throw. Again though, my nose isn't all there. But I think this is a wonderful winner!
  7. [No additional description provided.] I got a set of Dead Leaves gloss decants cause Dead Leaves is one of my favorite collections and I wanted to TRY THEM ALL before picking out a favorite or two to buy "big." This was the second one I tried: yay SUGAR!! First Sniff Impression: Very, very subtle. Hard to smell anything really. Wet in Vial: This pretty much smells just like dead leaves, but very subdued. The almost peanutty note I got in DL & Burnt Marshmallow is there, which makes me think it may be from the DL themselves or a base oil. It adds a bit of depth and warmness, and fades very quickly in case anyone is worried you end up smelling like peanut butter Drying Down: Drying down some of the sweetness starts to come out, so the leaves are sort of calm, warm, and subtle still. Like the scent coming off a leaf pile that's sitting in the sun. Dry: Dry this gets really pretty. It's like a sweet, floral dead leaves perfume, but somehow different from the Lab's actual dead leaves perfumes. It's really just like a delicate, sweetened leaves bouquet. SO PRETTY! Conclusion: I don't know if I'd need an entire bottle of this, but it's such a pretty one I'd want to have a bit of it around. It seems like a fresh, inoffensive way to wear a very nature-y scent without it screaming HEY I'VE BEEN ROLLING AROUND ON THE FOREST FLOOR! Not that there's anything wrong with that, especially if you have company, lol. I think this would be a wonderful introductory scent to someone who hasn't tried the Dead Leaves note yet and is nervous about it.

    Pumpkin Sugar Hair Gloss

Crystallized glittering shards of lightly spiced pumpkin sugar. Origin: Straight from the Lab Initial Thoughts: I love me some Pumpkin Spice Everything hair gloss, but it is STRONG. I have to be very choosy about when to wear it because it WILL make my husband sneeze. I am hoping this will be a quieter version that I can wear more often. In the Bottle: A very sweet version of pumpkin and spice. Side-by-side sniffing says there's more sugar and more vanilla in Pumpkin Sugar compared to Pumpkin Spice Everything which definitely has more of the "spice" vibe with nutmeg and cinnamon. Wet on hair: The vanilla is really coming out for me. So much so that it goes through a plasticky stage. After blowdrying: It softens back to real vanilla, sweet and gently cinnamon over the pumpkin. Verdict: This was almost exactly what I was hoping for. The scent is gentler than PSE and something I can probably wear any time I want. If you are a fan of all the pumpkin things, you should try it. I got two bottles and will probably get more in my next order.

    October

Ay, thou art welcome, heaven's delicious breath! When woods begin to wear the crimson leaf, And suns grow meek, and the meek suns grow brief And the year smiles as it draws near its death. Wind of the sunny south! oh, still delay In the gay woods and in the golden air, Like to a good old age released from care, Journeying, in long serenity, away. In such a bright, late quiet, would that I Might wear out life like thee, 'mid bowers and brooks And dearer yet, the sunshine of kind looks, And music of kind voices ever nigh; And when my last sand twinkled in the glass, Pass silently from men, as thou dost pass. Dry, cold autumn wind. A rustle of red leaves, a touch of smoke and sap in the air. This is the scent I've looked forward to - some of my favorite autumn smells, all rolled into a single perfume. In the bottle, this was sharp and masculine. Ooo, very sharp. Wet, it transformed immediately to the scent of mouldering leaves, with an overtone of men's cologne. Dry, the throw is all wet, decaying leaves (which I find quite pleasant), but unfortunately, when I bring my wrist to my nose, all I smell is cheap men's cologne and a whiff of musk. On the whole, I think my skin chemistry has played me false once more.
  10. [No additional description provided.] In the bottle: This smells like dead leaves to me. Forest floor, but decidedly deciduous. It's woody, and slightly green. If i had to give this a color, I'd say it's olive green. It's a bit cologne-like in nature, and while I like the scent, I do hope it changes so i can smell the other notes. Skin Test: again, a little goes a very long way. As it starts to dry down, more of the other notes start to come forward. The dead leaves scent though is definitely the star here. There's a sweet herbal note that i wouldn't necessarily identify as licorice root, and the patchouli is definitely coming out way more on than in the bottle. Some of the sweetness could be attributed to the tonka as well, but I don't outright get the cocoa/vanilla rich notes that i generally associate with tonka. As this continues to dry and warm up on my skin, the tonka and licorice definitely start to come out, and there's almost something sugared about this. At this point, I can't stop sniffing. I do finally get patchouli on this one, but it's not a super funky, wet earth patchouli. It's tempered by everything else and just lends more to the whole "forest floor" feel of this scent. While this wasn't quite what I was expecting, I really do love this, and I'll report back once I've put this in my hair. edit: In my hair the scent smells like the dried down, best version of itself. Not nearly as strong in my hair as on my skin- i have short hair and sprayed it into my hands before applying. I used two sprays. It's just the right amount of scent, and I think it would play nicely with base scents like O and Snake Oil, as well as other licorice scents. If you want to amp the patchouli, i think you could do that too. Ugh-so good!
  11. [No additional description provided.] Currently obsessed with Pink Peppercorn, so had to give this a go. The perfume version of Dead Leaves and Pink Peppercorn was not good on me. Hoping this is better! Ah...there's cinnamon in the pumpkin pulp. This is mostly sweet cinnamon on me, with a hint of pumpkin and dead leaves. There's maybe a touch of that floral-spicy thing that pink peppercorn does, but barely any. The combo of the pumpkin spice type scent with the dead leaves is pretty special though. Kind of makes it like fall in a bottle. I'm really enjoying it, and will keep my little 5ml and use it.

    Blood Squib

[No additional description provided.] Rich cherry, cherry syrup and a touch of spice. There may ba a small trace of almond. Strong throw and lasting power. Quiet artificial smelling, but not bad.
  13. [No additional description provided.] I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet! I thought this would be super popular. I mean, who hasn't thought at least once in their life, "man, I wish my hair could smell like toasty marshmallows and dead leaves!" am I right?? This is FABULOUS. I feel like the Lab and Post Dead Leaves notes are like Russian Roulette - you don't know which one you're going to get. Will it be that cologney one I really hate? The sort of aquatic one? That SUPER bitter one? Or that perfect, legit smells like dead leaves crunching under your feet one? Well, it's that one folks. Perfection. And it's not too strong. In fact, the sweet vanilla fluffy only slightly scorched marshmallow come out on top. I love this. In my top three of Dead Leaves HG thus far (other two are Dead Leaves and Cinnamon Incense and Whatever Else from last year, and Dead Leaves, Patchouli, Honey and Stuff from the year before. Super happy I got a 1oz of this instead of just a little 5ml. I will have to restrain myself from getting a full bottle with firm reminders that I have never used up anything in my life ever. ANYWAY - the entire point of this whole rambling review - if you love marshmallow, try this. Don't let the Dead Leaves scare you off, they are well behaved here.
  14. [No additional description provided.] Of the 4 Weenies I bought, this was the biggest surprise. Probably because my previous Dead Leaves scents were heavy on the dead leaf part, especially my hair glosses - and so they really conveyed autumn. This one smells like reading a library book in a garden on an overcast summer day. The leaf and champaca blossom merge together and the coconut is just faintly there. It all works beautifully together, like something a shy goth girl would wear. I'm positive this will be popular because it's a light, pretty scent you could wear year round.

    Pomegranate Clove Bath Oil

Sweet and darkly warming. Testing this directly on my skin as a moisturizer. The pomegranate is sweet, velvety, and dark. The clove is very, very light. It spikes the pomegranate just enough to give it some warmth make it festive. Overall it wears pretty light on my skin and I could get away with wearing it as a moisturizer on my whole body, I thought it was going to be too overpowering. Simple and lovely.

    Coimetrophobia

    Fear of Cemeteries
Upturned earth, moss-damp and thick with creeping things. A shard of mahogany from a broken casket. Creaking marble doors pushing open under moonlit skies. In the decant: Diiiiirt. Also, some patchouli and mahogany. But mostly, dirt. Wet: Upturned earth and mahogany. I believe this is the same mahogany note found in The Red Queen. Then, the moss emerges, and what I think may be the marble note. This dirt scent is actually a lot lighter than I thought it would be. Dry: Mostly dirt, moss, and what I think may be the marble. The mahogany note seems to have gone away. Verdict: I wanted to try this, since I like dirt scents. It's actually surprisingly light, and not as menacing as one might think it would be, given the name.
  17. White icing skeletons, sour gummi worms, red licorice bloodstains, chocolate werewolf prints, and pretzel stick vampire stakes. I get gingerbread, white icing, a hint of chocolate and licorice. This really reminds me to a Yule Gingerbread scent. More candy in it than the typical Yule Gingerbread combination, but yeah, it smells like a mix between Halloween and Christmas. Medium throw and wear length.
  18. [No additional description provided.] Disclaimer: The bottle was *very* cold sitting out in the chilly 40's of Minnesota. In the bottle: 'Juicy' clove. Not straight up identifiable fruit, but a chewy undertone. Interesting. On me: Whoah clove! This is a strong warm spicy clove, with a slightly smokey touch (the ouhd and leaves is my guess). The fruitiness is gone. I'm a bit disappointed as I really wanted a plum heavy blend. But I'm going to let this warm up and settle for a few days, as I've had blends change after a couple of days. But I am going to try layering this with some plum heavy blends like Bordello and The Soul of La Travata. Verdict:While this (at this point) isn't the spicy plum of my dreams, this is surprisingly nostalgic inducing for me. I was a teenager in the 90's, and this is bringing me back to days of dancing at clubs and raves, when smoking indoors was legal, and my friends and I all smoked clove cigarettes. I can smell them. Hear the R&B by R. Kelly, rap by Snoop Dogg and Warren G, and grunge rock by Stone Temple Pilots and Bush. Makes me want to buy some Djarums, open a wine cooler, pop the earphones in and listen to the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmanns Romeo and Juliet. Keeper.

    Sugar Skull

Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. I am nervous to be the first here but everyone is clamoring for a review. In the bottle: This smells like opening a new package of brown sugar- deep, fresh, bright. It reminds me of bartending and making my own simple syrup on the stove-top before work. When the sugar becomes heated and begins to boil, the scent rises up like this. Mmmm...almost like the crusted shell of a freshly-made creme brulee. On my arm and wrist: Whoa! This is suddenly taking on a new shape and I am falling in love There is a snap to the smell now that was undiscernableb/f in the bottle. Its almost spicy and definitely gives an edge to the sugar smell. I keep on sniffing my arm, wanting to smell it agian and again. It reminds me of something...hmm...what is it?? Kinda reminds me of Demeter's Snow fragrance which is clean and makes you feel pure and happy. Except that this being Bpal, it is far more complex and provocative. Something in this smell makes me think of Big Red gum but I don't know why...I don't get a cinnamon hit off this oil but I keep coming back to this impression. A few hours later: This has mellowed but is still going strong. Now, it reminds me of marzipan with maybe a hint of mint or something refreshing like that in it. I love it! This one has really surprised me...I generally don't go in for the sweet scents but this one has bite and legs must be the "skull" in the "sugar"!
  20. I had my head in, and was about to open the lantern, when my thumb slipped upon the tin fastening, and the old man sprang up in bed, crying out Whos there? I kept quite still and said nothing. For a whole hour I did not move a muscle, and in the meantime I did not hear him lie down. He was still sitting up in the bed listening; just as I have done, night after night, hearkening to the death watches in the wall. Doom: aged red patchouli, macerated red peppercorn, gloom-black musk, and creaking planks of dry oak. Patchouli and oak, gilded by powdery black musk and a whiff of spicy peppercorn. It smells very intensely in the sprayer, but it calms down to a powdery, slightly dirty oak blend. Medium throw.
  21. And every night, about midnight, I turned the latch of his door and opened it oh so gently! And then, when I had made an opening sufficient for my head, I put in a dark lantern, all closed, closed, that no light shone out, and then I thrust in my head. Oh, you would have laughed to see how cunningly I thrust it in! I moved it slowly very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old mans sleep. It took me an hour to place my whole head within the opening so far that I could see him as he lay upon his bed. Ha! would a madman have been so wise as this, And then, when my head was well in the room, I undid the lantern cautiously oh, so cautiously cautiously (for the hinges creaked) I undid it just so much that a single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye. And this I did for seven long nights every night just at midnight but I found the eye always closed; and so it was impossible to do the work; for it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. And every morning, when the day broke, I went boldly into the chamber, and spoke courageously to him, calling him by name in a hearty tone, and inquiring how he has passed the night. So you see he would have been a very profound old man, indeed, to suspect that every night, just at twelve, I looked in upon him while he slept. Midnight observations and false cheer: moon-shrouded indigo musk illuminated by a thin, wavering amber light, punctuated with erratic bursts of nerolis sharp affability. This is definitely going on my list of most favorite scents ever. The amber is deep and warm, and the combination with the musk reminds me somewhat of Haunted. The musk is hard for me to describe but it's cool-toned and narcotic. I get just a little halo of floral from the neroli. It's such a beautiful and addicting scent.

    Blueberry Pumpkin Muffins Hair Gloss

Muffiny! Pumpkiny! Big oozy lumps of blueberry! I FREAKING LOVE THIS! It's just as advertised, blueberry pumpkin muffins! I get sugary sweet blueberries, just barely spiced pumpkin, and a good douse of bakery muffin smell. definitely back-up worthy, as I see myself wearing this ALOT!
  23. [No additional description provided.] The hemp and moss combine with the dead leaves so I end with something very green and almost tomato leaf like, with a base of dirty frankincense. Again, not really a dead leaves blend. More like autumn in a dying garden patch. Good throw and wear length.

    September Midnight

Lyric night of the lingering Indian Summer, Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singing, Never a bird, but the passionless chant of insects, Ceaseless, insistent. The grasshopper's horn, and far-off, high in the maples, The wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silence Under a moon waning and worn, broken, Tired with summer. Let me remember you, voices of little insects, Weeds in the moonlight, fields that are tangled with asters, Let me remember, soon will the winter be on us, Snow-hushed and heavy. Over my soul murmur your mute benediction, While I gaze, O fields that rest after harvest, As those who part look long in the eyes they lean to, Lest they forget them. - Sara Teasdale A myrrh-darkened amber chypre sweetened by newly-ripened black pomegranate. The first sniff of this transported me straight outside to the depths of an autumn night. Granted the air outside doesn't smell exactly like resins and pomegranate, but what I really mean is that it evokes that feeling of a September (or October or November) midnight. This is a seriously dark pomegranate note, not nearly as bright as that in Persephone or The Fruit of Paradise. I love how this pomegranate is almost dark enough to be akin to blackcurrant, but still retains that characteristic "red" quality. This is the last pomegranate of the season, whose juice is as bloodred as the edges of an autumn sunset. The resins work to add depth on the drydown, which I can best compare to that same autumn sunset purpling and darkening before it succumbs to completely to nightfall. While the pomegrante note is perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, I believe the myrrh adds just a hint more sweetness--I tend to amp a subtle vanillic sweetness in myrrh. I feel September Midnight is the counterpart to Autumn and Winter, a prequel for what's to come as the days grow shorter and the nights deeper.

    Haunted Seas

A gleaming glassy ocean Under a sky of grey; A tide that dreams of motion, Or moves, as the dead may; A bird that dips and wavers Over lone waters round, Then with a cry that quavers Is gone—a spectral sound. The brown sad sea-weed drifting Far from the land, and lost; The faint warm fog unlifting, The derelict long tossed, But now at rest—though haunted By the death-scenting shark, Whose prey no more undaunted Slips from it, spent and stark. -Cale Young Rice Seaspray and flecks of foam welling with opoponax and labdanum's sepulchral moans. This smells like grey days on a ship. No wooden floors or tar or pitch. Just the scent of warm grey sea spray and the wind in your face. It's. amazing. This will find a new home in winter and possibly summer rotation this year.
