Bonfire smoke rising through a cloud of ceremonial incense, encircled by swirling autumn leaves and a dribble of blood red musk. Wow. Very red musky. I smell this in A LOT of bpal scents to the point that they all blend in my head. I'm not really sure what red musk IS but to me it smells like a musk mixed with cherry or some other red berry. I smell a tiny bit of bonfire smoke and something a little musky but not unpleasant. This is a sexy scent. Another win on owning a bottle.

There’s magic afoot: fiery red musk, luminous elemi, East Indian patchouli, champaca flower, cedar incense, ho wood, and hemlock accord sweetened with a peculiar sweet honey. Out of all the gorgeous Halloweenies, Third Charm stood out to me as a must-have. I made a bee-line for it at Dragon*Con, and I wasn't disappointed! In the bottle, Third Charm is similar to Scherezade (one of my all-time favorite scents), with an autumnal quality that makes me think of leaves changing colors and cool, crisp nights. A little of the peculiar honey creeps in to smooth and sweeten the scent. On my wrist, more of the musk and patchouli creeps out, until it's a warm, glowing, scent that balances all the fuzzy, earthy elements beautifully. I can't wait for the weather to start changing so I can wear this and feel appropriately seasonal.

PUNKIE NIGHT Once upon a time, on a wild October night many years ago, a fair took place at Chiselborough. The men of the village of Hinton St. George made their way to the fair, and spent the night in revelry, drinking and carrying on, far into the darkest hours. Their wives grew concerned, and went looking for their unruly husbands. In order to see their way through the autumn gloom, they hollowed out mangel-wurzels and crafted them into makeshift lanterns. The drunken men, in their sloshy haze, saw the ghostly lights approaching, and believed them to be goolies -- the furious spirits of unbaptized children. In terror, they fled in panic from their bemused, bewildered wives. To this day, that night of foolishness is still celebrated! This is a light-hearted scent: apple orchards, bright cranberries, and a touch of warm cider. APPLES APPLES APPLES! This is such a yummy scent...I want to take a bite out of my arm! When this was wet it was all apple on my skin. As it dried I got a little bit of fruit, cherries? (Nope once I looked it up I realized it was cranberries) and just the tiniest hint of spice. When dry it smells just like my house when I put a pot of cider on to simmer. Yummy, yummy, yummy!!!! I'm so happy with my choices for the Haloweenie scents! Thanks Beth for such great fall scents...it's my favorite time of year and now I can smell like it!

When I was little, a summoning went awry at the standing stones in the grove by my house, and the ensuing carnage in the neighborhood effectively ruled out the possibility of trick or treating locally that year. My parents didn't want me to be disappointed, so they drove my brother and m'self to Innsmouth for the night. The people manning the festively decked-out skiffs that were moored in the sand-clogged harbor were incredibly generous with their candy, and my brother and I ended the night as happy as two sugar-high little kids could be. The strange beauty of the crumbling Georgian houses and their widow's walks is forever etched in my memory, along with the distinct scent of fish and kelpy incense. Innsmouth: Halloween, 1983. Fish and ceremonial incense. Cthulhu F'tagn! Don't be afraid of Halloween in Innsmouth. To me, it's a very wear-able incense scent and reminds me very much of other BPAL incense scents I've smelled. If you've been into BPAL for awhile you'll recognize this. There's a "cool" element to this that is like the note I caught in the first year edition of Samhainophobia. Maybe it's meant to be the sea air. Does it smell fishy/kelp-y? If I use my imagination, it does a bit, especially right at the beginning. And now that I've had it on for about 30 minutes I can still smell that note on one wrist. That being said, I'm very suggestible and do my best to smell what Beth is attempting to evoke in her scents. It's a big part of the fun of BPAL to me. I like this quite a lot and will wear it during Cthulhu Christmas as well! Edit: I love this. It reminds me of Arcana, which was a favorite when I first discovered BPAL. If you like Arcana you will probably like this!

Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. There are so many notes here I seem to get something with each squirt. The spices are the strongest notes, and are balanced with the crisp apple and the mellow mullein. And then sometimes it smells like a fruity, spiced pumpkin. It's like the Samhain oil, but with a different manifestation of it with every spray. Very rich and warm...very lovely.

White coconut, orris root, delicate vanilla, white dammar, papyrus blossom, and osmanthus. Hmmm. This is wonderful, and I love it, but my nose can barely pick out ANY of the listed notes. To me this smells like a tart lemony-sugar with a woodsy background and maybe a slight tinge of coconut. It wasn't what I expected at all. Luckily, it's even better than I expected! Will be a great winter-y energizing blend - it's a bit too sweet for summer, but it's just a great, bright fun scent.

The scent of pulverized red velvet cake mixed with cream cheese frosting, stuffed with candy bark, rolled into balls, and coated with white chocolate. Anyone who knows me well knows that I adore red velvet cake (it's basically but not exactly chocolate and there's cream cheese icing to boot!). So I was really looking forward to this bath oil. (Please note that I don't use the oil in the bath, as I'm a shower gal, and only use the bath oil like a lotion.) I applied some of this to the back of my clean and dry hands. First sniff, was just a generic sweet scent. As it dried, I got hints of the dire plastic note that vanilla can sometimes turn into on me. After it dried, there were whiffs of something like red velvet cake when I waved my hands around, but if I sniffed the skin, it was back to that mildly sweet scent. Several hours later, just that generic sweet scent. Maybe I amp cream cheese? Why couldn't I have ampped red velvet cake instead? I do so dislike to give a somewhat negative review, but I ordered this right away, instead of getting a decant, and I'm a bit saddened. I'll test again, after it has a bit more time to settle, and re-read the label to see if I need to gently mix or shake it. And then I'll edit this review, hopefully with better news. ETA: Well, it's been a while, so I'm trying this again. It's better for the aging, but there is a sharp note lurking under the generic sweetness. I'll revisit around Box of Chocolates time. Note that I did gently shake the oil before testing this time. Adding that the sharp note (what could that be?) does lessen as this dries down. I plan to layer with chocolate scents and cake scents.

Lightly spiced pumpkin pulp swirled with bourbon vanilla, French vanilla, and raw vanilla bean. I have a BUNCH of BPAL pumpkin scents and this is right up there with my favorite one. In fact, I think I've got enough of a sampling that I won't ever need another BPAL pumpkin scent again. They all share the same pumpkin note (which is not a squashy pumpkin smell but a spiced pumpkin smell that is a bit sharp). This particular blend is very "smooth". I can't really pick out the vanillas but I do like this alot and it's one of the more wearable scents for me.

Overgrown oleander, marshy water hemlock, the sugared nectar of carnivorous blooms, putrefying wet greenery, oozing sap, crushed rosary peas, withered climbing roses, and nightshade berries. I searched, but couldn't find a review so...*gulp*...here goes. At first sniff from the bottle I definitely got white floral (Oleander?) with wet greenery. It's very pleasant and immediately made me think of what a tropical greenhouse smells like in the fall. On my skin and on the dry down the floral softens a bit and the greenery gets a little stronger. Not strong as in mossy - it's almost like fresh cut stems directly from the garden. Altogether it's very pretty and feminine, but not girly, the throw is very good and it seems to have better than average longevity. I'm so glad I took a chance and bought a big bottle!

It is under the small, dim, summer star. I know not who these mute folk are Who share the unlit place with me— Those stones out under the low-limbed tree Doubtless bear names that the mosses mar. They are tireless folk, but slow and sad, Though two, close-keeping, are lass and lad,– With none among them that ever sings, And yet, in view of how many things, As sweet companions as might be had. Purple-stemmed raspberries, twining grape vines, Spanish moss, and dusty pale woods. This one was heavy moss & wood notes on my skin. Sadly, I got no raspberry or grape out of this one.

A shadowy shrine filled with forgotten toys, broken dolls. The altar: a collapsing trunk distended by a rotted wedding gown. The air of the room is dusty, laced with the scent of a child's perfume and the remnants of a dried, crumbling bridal bouquet: tea rose, violet, white sandalwood, French lavender, and Calla lily. At first sniff in the bottle, I wasn't that impressed. It smelled dull, boring and unimpressive. I was crushed because this was the Haunted House blend I was really looking forward to receiving. The second I put this on my skin, all doubts were gone because this is one beautiful blend. On first sniff, the rose is the first note to come out with a bang. It's the same rose note in Hope, but slightly less sugared. The violet is the violet in Faith, my favorite violet of all. There is the linen note of Antique Lace, but instead of being in the forefront, in the Attic it's a soft side-note. This is like the beautiful combination of three of my most favorite scents, but with a twist. The dust is there keeping the florals at bay and it makes the scent a bit more grounded, less heady and so beautiful. Gorgeous.

The incense-tinged scent of forbidden tomes and the musk-laden remnants of infernal servants. An incensy library scent?! Are you kidding me?! They didn't even have to ask me to order this, they should have just billed me for it automatically! Don't be afraid though if incense is not your thing, this is a subtle incense, that has long since settled into the dusty volumes. It has soaked into the parchment, beneath layers of dust. A gentle, warm scent that really doesn't display its full lurid set of papery plumage until you put it on. These sort of scents really warm on my skin and become nuzzle-worthy. Put it on your favorite bookworm and then you'll want to distract him/her from their reading as it heats up on their skin. I think I catch a glimpse of the incense I loved in Riding the Goat -- a soft, slightly sweet, slightly tobacco-like note, woody and glossy and rich, but muted and distant in this blend. Faint wisps of smoke, and a breath warming on the back of your neck -- but when you turn to face the sweet-smelling spectre, he has vanished and only a faint outline remains traced in the air. Wear this one when you read at night, or study, or in the library, or a haunted mansion, basement, or haunted forest.

Hidden beneath the arms of an ancient gnarled oak sits an overgrown, weedy patch of monkshood, sacred to Hecate and brought forth from Cerberus' spittle, that is surrounded by shrieking mandragora, black nightshade, wise sage, dire hemlock, creeping ivy, and thorn apple. There's a floral/ herbal/ conifer edge to this and I can pick out the oak. It smells a little powdery, almost as if there was amber involved. Mostly it's just dark trees and herbs.

Sour gummies, lemon drops, jujubes, and lollipops scattered on a broken patch of cement and dandelion-dotted grass. Well, i'm going to go out on a limb and say the lollipops have to be cherry lollipops because i get a ton of cherry candy here, as well as lemon candy which reminds me of Lemon Sticky Bat oil Sad to say i get something a tiny bit plastic too, like instead of a torn candy bag it was one of those pumpkin pails that had the candy in it! The "dandelion" is very well blended and is most like "Roadhouse" only without the booze, the cherry and lemon candy predominates so you almost don't smell it though, it is very much in the background.

Oak leaves falling through a haze of kyphi, champaca, and blackened pomegranate rind. Sweet and warm and resinous-woody with a sweet sort if incense throught. I've never smelled Kyphi so I can't exactly pick it out, but the whole thing is quite exotic - dry and warm with woods, spices and thick sweet smoke. Totally intoxicating!

Smoky Maluku clove and a hint of aged patchouli. Strong, beautiful clove, filled out with a touch of patchouli. Seriously, this is all about the clove, which is what I'd hoped. I'm not patchouli's fan, but it blends well here. I love this candle.

Fresh pumpkin puree seasoned with brown sugar, ginger, nutmeg, and clove baked into an anise seed crust. Wow. This is lovely. I can't do pumpkin as a perfume, and I actually don't like commercial scented candles at all, most especially the autumn spice scents. This is a totally different thing, and I love it. The spices smell like actual cooking spices, and although I can't smell pumpkin exactly, there is a soft sweetness with the spice that isn't cloying at all.

A barren grove, silent. Dry, crumbling oak leaves dance through the skeletal, grasping arms of ancient trees. I sniffed the candle wax first before I lit the wick. This reminds me a bit of the recent Oak Moon and a bit of Falling Leaf Moon, but sweeter and more aquatic than either of those two. Once lit, the candle is still reminding of those two lunar scents, but there's a mixture of fresh leaves, still on the tree, and leaves that have just fallen to the ground, perhaps dashed there by an autumn storm. There's still that sweet coolness in the air. No dirt, not really woodsy in feeling, just lots of leaves, freshly-fallen and still clinging to the branches. I do like it a lot.

Baskets of apples, sun warmed, sit beneath tree boughs dappled with autumn light. This is like a crisp, red delicious apple. If last years autumn harvest was warm and glowing, this is an apple orchard on a crisp fall evening. It's really pretty and makes the room smell wonderful.

A tangle of lush greenery and thick, rooty vines with a hint of pumpkin rind, crumbled leaves, and rich soil. In vial: Lush, supple and green. It's the smell of a just snapped stem, that soft milkiness. A hint of cool black soil. Wet: Waxy pumpkin rind - sweet, natural, sun-ripened. Not buttery or spiced at all. It seems more like a white pumpkin than an orange one. The soil is fading into a clean, almost ivy-like scent. Dry: There is a light freshness on drydown, not floral exactly, not ozone or aquatic either... Maybe it's the leaves? Like autumn leaves still vibrantly yellow and on the tree, with a cool breeze rustling through them. Verdict: Absolutely beautiful! Perfect for people like me who can't wear spiced pumpkin. It becomes the kind of close-wearing scent where people won't necessarily know you're wearing perfume - it just clings to your skin like you have been out wandering on a chilly autumn day.

The scent of petty vandalism: toilet paper wads on damp maple trees, squished pumpkins, raw eggs, beer, pumpkin seed hulls, and soapy glass. In the bottle- Very foody, definitely sweet and maple. Someone mentioned smelling cucumber on this in a different thread? I smell pumpkin, fresh, not gooey, just a little green smelling. I was wary about it, I don't do foody scents, but I am fond of Mischief in all forms, so I gave it a try. One my skin- Gingerbread! Beautiful sweet gingerbread! I actually really like like it, not something I'd wear often, but definitely something for the colder months. A very nice surprise! The throw on this is HUGE, it's the strongest throw I've ever had on a bpal, and the scent remained gingerbread on me all day.

PUMPKIN PIE BATH OIL Devilishly decadent and a little bit ridiculous! I was thrilled to see a pumpkin pie bath oil show up on the last update. I love pumpkin pie, and anything spicy and autumnal is right up my alley. The scent is DIVINE. The tiny bit of spice I got in the bottle amped like whoa when applied. In the bottle, I also get a fairly strong whiff of what's probably pumpkin and buttery crust, but what reminds me very strongly of SEX, a little musky and rich and oh so devilishly decadent. Applied, it's all clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and star anise -- all the beautifully warm spices that go into pumpkin pie. I only just used it in the shower, applying the usual way by putting a small amount in my hand and then rubbing over my arms, shoulders and upper chest. The scent is strong and makes me want to eat my hand. Those with extremely delicate skin should probably not apply. I don't normally get red patches when I use spicy blends, but this one made the crooks of my elbows and the skin under my breasts (plus a nipple and my nose, which I must have accidentally touched while I still had oil on my hands) BURN. As is normal with BPTP bath oils, it's definitely moisturizing; my skin is soft to the touch.

A rotting, cracked mahogany balustrade smeared with bloody handprints frames a cascading Imperial staircase that rises unsteadily into oppressive, suffocating shadows. I knew this would be a winner, so I am happy to have gotten one unsniffed! Luscious musk with a touch of wood. I think this one will be popular!

Claustrophobic pathways of neglected boxwood and thorny rosemary intersecting at impossible angles, twisting into itself. Heady, overpowering green woody scent ... deep dark woods scent with a deeper sweetness throught. I expected Rosemary and sort of dreaded it since it has a tendency to smell medicinal on me, but what we have here smells more like a juniper bush with a bit of cypress greenery. There is a "perfumey" quality to the greenery, with a very strong initial throw. I also get just the slightest hit of aquatic in there that reminds me of BLITHE HOLLOW. The scent sweetens up but never loses the big green-ness of the wet stage, it just sort of receedes in throw hour after hour but doesn't morph much outside of amping the perfumey sweetness a bit.
