  1. In bottle/imp: Plum, amber, and bergamot all mixed together.

Immediately on skin: The first thing I get from this is light violet-like orris, and a background of light plum and amber. It’s softly floral, fruity, and has a nice base of amber.

After a little while: As I wear this, the orris comes out more and more and almost overpowers everything else. The plum is the only thing I can really smell lingering in the far background. It’s sweet, powdery violets with just that touch of plum.

Overall Impressions: This is mostly just violet on me unfortunately. I really was hoping to get more of the other notes (I love plum and bergamot). The orris dominates this scent with just a little plum in the background. On me this isn’t very balanced since there’s nothing there to temper the sweet violet and plum notes. Ah well. I’m sure it’s gorgeous on others.

  2. In bottle/imp: A powdery, dry mix of red musk and light strawberry.

Immediately on skin: This is a light, subtly sweet red musk and strawberry scent. It’s smoothly mixed, but has a slight plastic undertone to it.

After a little while: This gets a little fruitier as I wear it, and that plastic and powder I got at first has disappeared. This is just fruity, sweet strawberry and red musk now. It’s very uplifting and smooth.

Overall Impressions: I was expecting more complexity from this blend. I never got ay grapefruit or white musk. But the combo of red musk and strawberry (leaf) is quite pleasant after the first 15 or so minutes. It’s sweet and musky, with a definite gummy red color to the scent. It’s almost girly but it’s very fun and fruity.

  3. In bottle/imp: Dry, light leather and a touch of myrrh.

Immediately on skin: This smells very light to me. It’s leather, but not thick and overpowering. It’s slightly dry and warm with a very warm feel to it. I don’t really smell any other notes in this, just warm, sexy leather.

After a little while: This is still mostly leather, with a dry touch of amber and a little sweetness from the myrrh. It’s rich but dry, and a very sexy scent.

Overall Impressions: This is definitely unisex, edging into masculine, but women could really pull this off as well. This is a drier leather scent, but it’s not savory like I get from some of the lab’s mainly leather scents; it’s dry, worn leather with some warmth from the amber and just a hint of sweetness from the myrrh. I don’t get much red musk from this, but it’s still a nice scent. It’s very well blended and may be good for layering.

  4. In bottle/imp: Thick, fruity red wine, sweet myrrh, and an overtone of rose.

Immediately on skin: This is very thick and sweet. The main thing I smell is the red wine, and the myrrh and rose are blending into that. There’s almost a rich chocolate note but I think it’s just the black musk swirling into the wine.

After a little while: The sweetness calms down in this and as it dries, the rose and musk come out a bit more. This transforms into a musky wine and rose scent with the richness of myrrh blended in. It has a nice complexity, and is very well balanced.

Overall Impressions: This scent is very womanly and rich… the wine gives it a wafting sweetness, while the other notes add a nice complexity and depth to the blend. This scent is dark because of the black musk and myrrh, but the rose adds a little lightness to it. Very pretty and feminine.

  5. Love and Pain, Death Cap and Tombstone are very masculine vanilla scents IMO. Tombstone is the sweetest out of the three (cedar and vanilla), while Love and Pain is a very musky, sexy, unisex lavender vanilla and Death Cap smells like warm, clean vanilla dirt. One of my favorite vanilla scents is Black Opal, but it becomes rather sweet on me. Maybe on someone else's chemistry it'll stay less sweet however.

  6. In the bottle this smells foody, cakey, and rich with a definite thick sweetness and the scent of butter added to it.

On my skin, this immediately turns into the nutty pastry crust note that can be found in Bloody Mary, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Beaver Moon 05, and lightly in Gingerbread Poppet. It is slightly salty, very crusty, and absolutely horrid on me. Here, it's mixed with a light helping of syrupy berries and salty butter spread over the top.

This scent is a little sweet on me, but it smells very heavily of grains and nuts. Unfortunately, this one's a huge disappointment on me :P

  7. And a photo of the postcard with the little girl in Red that is one of the labels of the Lilith Victoria bottle. Sorry, my camera is really sensitive to light (small lens) and I live in basement. Therefore, even with a huge light, very dark.

Have you gotten a bottle of Lilith Victoria with this label? If so, there are three labels... the label I have shows a girl in red in a red hat with a slightly flat top, an owl on her shoulder, and playing cards in her hand.

ETA: The one I have is the same one that stellans uploaded to the gallery.

Ummm... *looks around* maybe I was just too drugged up to notice the difference. I saw red dress, halloween card, and went -- OH HAI LILITH!

yay for pain killers and no thinking! or is that boo?

Yay for pain killers! :P I was asking more to see if I needed to place another order to try and get the third label than anything. I already have the cat an owl one. My wallet is glad, though :D

  9. In October, the crop harvest has past, and all hands turn to the Hunt: the third and final harvest before winter. Blood Moon shines over huntsmen as they ride over reaped grain in pursuit of their prey.

In Christian mythology, Blood Moon may have a darker significance:

"And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind." -- Revelation 6:12-13

The feral scent of the heat of the chase, deep woods, undulating musks, brushed by forest flora, swirled in the incense of the anointed cherub that covereth[/i], and touched by blood-dimmed lunar oils.

In bottle: Lots of musk, dry woods, with a red, deep sweetness and a touch of herbal floral notes.

Immediately on skin: This smells dark but still perfumey and slightly “clean.” I get a lot of musk in this, but it’s sweetened almost like Hunter Moon 07. There’s a deep red scent to it, and without any metallic notes (I thought blood might mean metallic). It’s warm, dark woods, incense and musks with some deep forest florals and a bit of a clean note far underneath.

After a little while: This just seems to get stronger and more dry-smelling on my skin as I wear it. It’s a warm, musky clean scent with a lot of incense (not smoke, but more like incense sticks) and hints of dry wood and herbs. This is also getting more unisex as it sits on my skin; the hint of florals I got at first have faded, though a little sweetness still remains. This is rather dry-smelling as well.

Overall impressions: This scent is deep and warm… it’s full of musk and incense with hints of dry woods and herbs. It’s a very dry, unisex scent and has an overall clean feel which is something I just wasn’t expecting. Blood Moon is blended well and has just a hint of sweetness that tempers all of the dry notes just a touch. If you’re a musk or incense fan, I definitely recommend trying this. It’s not as rich and sweet as Hunter Moon 07, but it’s similar to the feel of that blend.

  10. I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this, but I didn't want to start a new topic....

Something has been making me very curious for the last couple weeks:

A while back I acquired a bottle of Midwinter's Eve '07. I loved it so much that I went about trying to acquire another bottle. I finally got my second bottle and the label is completely different. At first I thought I had made a mistake and gotten a different scent. I looked at both labels to make sure that yes, they both say Yuletide Midwinter's Eve 2007; and they both smell the same. The second bottle I acquired seems to have the more common label that I've seen listed and in my brief visit to the label gallery.

My burning curiosity question is how often does this happen? Or do I have something unique? Thanks!

Last year, all of the LE Yule bottles came with one of two labels: A brown scroll with script on it, and a picture label. It was about half and half from what I remember, and I think Krampus had 2 or 3 different picture labels.

So it's not really unique... sorry! But as far as I know, that's the first time they did multiple label designs for the same scents.

  11. To me, this one smells almost exactly like this year's and last year's Sugar Skull perfume. It has a red/purple/pink fruitiness with almost a punch vibe going on. And the sugar... thick, sweet, almost caramelized, but stopping short of burned and overpowering. I also get a slight spiciness from Sugar Skull, like mulling spices.

If you love Sugar Skull the perfume and want to bathe in it, this is the room spray for you.

  12. This scent is rich and sweet. It's fall baking smells all rolled into one.... if you have a major sweet tooth, that is. Mostly I get spiced cookie dough, rich, fudgy chocolate (but more white chocolate), and pumpkin. This is much foodier compared to Sticky Pillowcase's candy sweetness.

I find the lab's pumpkin note to be really rich and buttery to me, but here it really takes a backseat to the other baking smells. It really does smell like it's a component, more than sitting there on its own among everything.

  13. In bottle/imp: Creamy rose perfume.

Immediately on skin: Lots of rose, but it’s girly and soft. Add to that a bit of light creaminess in the background and that’s what this smells like. It’s sort of sharp-smelling however… the rose and cream don’t seem to be really blending.

After a little while: I know that bpal honey doesn’t like me, and while it’s behaving almost here, it’s still a bit off. This smells like rose perfume drenched with cream and slightly powdery and bitter honey. It’s a little off to my nose, as it still doesn’t all blend together.

Overall Impressions: I can imagine this is gorgeous on the right person, but unfortunately that doesn’t me. Bpal honey goes a bit powdery or bitter on me, and it does a little of both of those here, even tempered with the cream. The rose note’s a bit perfumey, but it’s rose after all. If you like girly rose blends and can handle the lab’s honey note, try this one for sure.

  14. In bottle/imp: Pepper and lily with a mildewy background.

Immediately on skin: This smells very off on me. It really does smell dusty and slightly mildewed. Along with that is the pepper and lily, plus a warmth from the beeswax. This smells like peppered mildew and lily. It’s very off to my nose.

After a little while: Ick. This is not good on me at all. Mostly now it’s soap and pepper with some beeswax thrown in. Not nice at all.

Overall Impressions: This scent had so much potential, but the notes really clashed badly on me. The combo of pepper with lily and beeswax is what did it I think. It was spicy and floral but smelled warm and spoiled at the same time.

  15. In bottle/imp: Orange liquorice and cake.

Immediately on skin: This smells like a mixture of pastry crust, orange, and licorice/anise. It’s a little creamy, but more crusty.

After a little while: The pastry crust has definitely turned into a more soft, cake-like note now; most of the scent is dominated by a soft creamy combo of orange, anise, and custard however. It’s more perfume-y now too, as I clearly get a soft floral overtone to the whole blend. It’s sweet, but not overly so at all. It’s very soft and girly smelling.

Overall Impressions: This is a very nicely balanced blend. It starts out rather foody, but settles into something more wearable and perfume-like. The orange/cake/anise combo smells absolutely delicious, though I don’t usually enjoy licorice/anise notes so I’ll have to test this one further to see if I’d wear it enough to warrant purchasing a bottle.

  16. In bottle/imp: Sweet apple-maple flavored oats.

Immediately on skin: This smells exactly like a bowl of oatmeal on my skin. It’s warm and sweet with a hint of apple and some maple syrup. This is very rich, but there’s also a bit of dry hay coming from it.

After a little while: As this dries, the wood and hay come out a bit more. Even the musk lingers a little in the background. This becomes sort of a sweetened oatmeal and wood scent with lingering whiffs of apple, maple, and musk. Unfortunately the musk turns a bit powdery but it’s far in the background.

Overall Impressions: This scent is very interesting. I think it’s quite unique and I’ve never smelled oatmeal perfume before… but that’s what it smells like, especially at first. It gains some complexity as I wear it though, and the wood, hay, and musk make it a bit less foody.

  17. In bottle/imp: Warm, glowing sandalwood with herbal florals in the background.

Immediately on skin: This is very warm with a touch of floral notes. The sandalwood and beeswax come out the most with a hint of cocoa and tobacco and then some light florals in the background. After a couple of minutes of sniffing, I’m getting more woody floral notes.

After a little while: Something in this just doesn’t behave on me. The beeswax has come out a lot more and overpowered the sandalwood. There’s some rich florals over it and a touch of spiciness.

Overall Impressions: This blend settles into a strong beeswax scent with thick floral overtones and something almost spicy. It’s very thick on me, and doesn’t quite agree with my chemistry. I was hopeful about this scent, but unfortunately it doesn’t smell good on me.

  18. In bottle/imp: Very cool florals with a lick of cassia and hint of bamboo.

Immediately on skin: This is an interesting blend. It kind of has a cool/warm thing going on. It’s a mixture of cool florals, spicy cassia, and green bamboo. It’s a little fruity and spicy at the same time, but crisp.

After a little while: The florals in this seem to have faded a little, and now mostly what I get is a spicy and green cassia/bamboo combo. It’s interesting; it’s warm, but fresh and crisp.

Overall Impressions: Unfortunately the cassia and bamboo combination in this isn’t working for me. It’s green and spicy, but the two notes don’t really blend on my skin… they kind of clash. It’s an interesting blend, but it just doesn’t work with my chemistry.

  19. Huh. I thought Snake Oil was generally considered to be patchouli-heavy. Must vary more than I realized. So many great recs -- I think I've decided on the Temple Viper, and I'm still debating Black Mamba (ok, not technically part of the Snake Pit). Not patchouli there, but jasmine :P ...prolly just have to risk it. Thanks for the great thread and tips -- and if anyone knows how to tell whether Snake Oil will go vanilla or spicy or patchouli I'd love to hear from you ... :D

It really depends on your chemistry about amping certain notes. I usually amp patchouli but like I said before, I can't pick it out in Snake Oil. I'd recommend picking up an imp with your next order just in case.

And the older it is, the smoother and richer it gets.

  20. I'm a new BPAL-er and I've never tried Snake Oil, but I'm already learning that I can't wear patchouli. It's all I can smell in any blend it's present in. So, do any of the Snake Pits hide the patchouli completely? So many of the other notes sound good, but the patchouli scares me...

    Thanks!

I also detest patchouli, and there are only a couple of blends that contain it that I can wear. With Snake Oil (especially aged) I can't smell it at all.

As for what blends hide the deep, dark tone of Snake Oil the best, I'd say Green Tree Viper.

  21. MCXLVI (1146)

This smells citrusy but not sharp in the bottle and when I applied it it didn't change much. This blend smells like a combo of grapefruit and white pepper. It's spicy but well balanced with the fresh citrus. It's not overly sweet either.

    MCLXIII (1163)

This one also doesn't morph much once it's on my skin. In the bottle and on me, this is like cooked cherries or grapes wrapped up in boozy brown sugar and or light caramel. It's very warm and sweet and all the notes seem to be blended really well.

  22. In bottle/imp: Slightly boozy and fizzy vanilla with herbs and spices.

Immediately on skin: Wow… I’m smelling lots and lots of herbs. The scent is very herbal with a dry green medicinal feel and hints of spice from the bay rum. There’s also a dry smoothness from the tobacco. The vanilla lingers in this, kind of swirling throughout, but while it’s creamy and nice, it’s not really meshing well so far with the rest of the notes.

After a little while: This smells like watered down vanilla tea mixed with pencil shavings and faint herbs and creamy spices. It’s almost rubbery on me… I’m not sure what that note is at all. It almost smells like dragon’s blood far in the background of the scent.

Overall Impressions: I had high hopes for this one, but it doesn’t seem to like me. It’s a little too masculine on me and while I love vanilla blends, the note just doesn’t deliver on my skin here. It has an interesting herbal and slightly spiced thing going on, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting.
