    Fallen

In bottle/imp: Dark woods, violet, and plastic-y amber. Immediately on skin: This has a very plastic overtone to it, but within the scent there is a mix of mostly deep wood notes and violet. There is also a light warm touch of sandalwood and a bit of amber, but the amber is quite plastic-y. After a little while: Overall, this smells like plastic to me, but it’s probably the combination of the notes. It’s a slightly spiced cooler blend with a hint of wood notes and an undercurrent of violet. The amber gives it a slightly golden feel, and the musk just permeates the whole blend. The violet is what gives this the cooler feel, and it’s well balanced with the warmer and golden notes. Overall Impressions: This smells like plastic on me, but I think it’s just the way my nose is interpreting the scent. It’s actually quite complex and well blended, and I’m sure it works on other people better than it seems to be on me.

    Dirty

In bottle/imp: Clean and slightly fruity without being overly crisp and sharp. Immediately on skin: This is the scent of clean laundry drying on the line on a very warm, sunny day. The scent is almost fuzzy and hard to grasp since it’s so well blended. There’s a hint of fruitiness to this, like apple blossom perhaps, but overall it just smells like “clean” without being too sharp or crisp. It’s a soft, pretty scent. After a little while: This scent has softened even more, if that’s possible. It’s still the same wonderful scent though: soft, warm, clean and fuzzy with a nice clean feel and a bit of soft, sweet florals. I still think it’s apple blossom, and I’m sticking to it! Overall Impressions: This is the perfect soft clean towel scent. I think it’s too fluffy to be “clean linen.” It’s soft, comfy, and clean with a gentle breeze of flowers.

    Death on a Pale Horse

In bottle/imp: Patchouli and lavender with a bit of soft herbs and lily. Immediately on skin: This is a citrus lavender scent with a hint of mint, a bit of coolness from the white musk, and a subtle base of very light patchouli. It’s a cool scent, but twisted slightly and herbal. It has a very nice, solid base to it and an almost powdery feel. After a little while: This has turned very masculine on me. It’s a dry musky scent with a lot of patchouli and lavender blending together, and a bit of warm sandalwood. With the white musk this has a cooler feel, but the hint of sandalwood gives this a gentle spice. Nothing else about this is gentle, though; the lavender/patchouli/white musk combo is very strong and sharp. Overall Impressions: This is definitely a masculine scent and not for me, but I can see its appeal for those who like this sort of strong blend. It has a lot of patchouli but it’s not gritty at all, and it has a cool feel overall. This is nicely blended and some of the notes are there, but don’t really stand out.

    Cathedral

In bottle/imp: Sharp resin… not deep and smooth but more woody and maybe even a bit of cedar. Immediately on skin: Strong cedar and some light smokiness… but mostly cedar. After a little while: Dry cedar, but there is a slight smoky resinous note to this as well now. It’s not overly sweet and is rather dry. Overall Impressions: This didn’t impress me at all… almost all I smell is cedar, though there is a hint of resin. I’m not a big cedar fan when it’s just about all I get from a blend and this is no exception. This blend is rather dry, and I would definitely say it’s unisex.

The Bow & Crown of Conquest

In bottle/imp: Herbal and crisp… the sage and cedar are strongest, then the lavender blends in. Immediately on skin: This is very herbal but it’s a very bright scent. The sage and cedar blend nicely with the lavender, and there’s a bit of white musk. Underneath is a light hint of leather. I would say this is on the masculine side. After a little while: This blend blooms beautifully on the skin after just a few minutes. The vanilla and leather come out a bit more and blend with the sage, cedar and lavender to create a warm, herbal, and masculine scent. The cedar is still very strong, but the other notes balance it out and turn it into a very complex blend. The carnation is barely there, but it adds a very subtle warm feel to this that goes nicely with the vanilla and white musk. Overall Impressions: I really enjoy this scent, but it’s not necessarily something I would want to smell like. It’s definitely on the unisex side easing into masculine. It’s complex and very well balanced with a lot of notes being easy to identify, but really blending beautifully with one another. My husband has a bottle and it it smells absolutely fantastic on him.
  6. The Spell of Amorous Love is one of my new favorite tea blends. It smells like plum green tea on me. Very fruity, but refreshing.

    Burial

In bottle/imp: Dusty patchouli and light citrusy herbs. Immediately on skin: This isn’t really a heavy scent. It’s dry and dirty, but it isn’t as gritty as patchouli usually smells on me. It’s more of a dusty earthy herbal scent. After a few minutes: This is a lot calmer and sweeter than I was expecting. This scent is mostly that of sweet roses and other floral notes (though the rose is the only one I can identify). Underneath everything lies a light dirt scent. I also sense some sort of amber from this mixing with the dirt. It’s a dirty but golden and sweet rose floral scent. Overall Impressions: This is a surprise for sure. I was hesitant to try this since I hate patchouli most of the time, but this is a very wearable rose and dirt blend. It’s very warm and not gritty at all.

    Shroud

In bottle/imp: Very very herbal… with a light grassy undertone. Immediately on skin: There’s something… oil like about this scent. And getting the description of cajeput makes sense out of it: the odor is “a mixture of turpentine and camphor.” I’m getting a touch of cedar and a strong herbal note in this as well. It’s a very dry wood and herb scent with a little bit of turpentine. After a few minutes: The wood in this is the strongest after a little while, and the turpentine cajeput note has faded. It’s still a rather sharp and acrid scent. The underlying scent is that of sharp herbs. It’s a very bitter and dry blend overall. Overall Impressions: This scent is not pleasant on me. The wood and cajeput combine to make something dry and bitter. This might be the greatest blend for some people, but I don’t really enjoy it.

    Sheol

In bottle/imp: Dry resins and a touch of herbs. Immediately on skin: This is a very resinous scent, but it’s not very heavy. The copal seems to be blending with the heliotrope to create something resinous, but slightly warm and floral too. There’s also a slight dry, earthy quality to this. After a little while: This has lightened up a bit… it’s now an earthy but effervescent fragrance, if that makes any sense, and there’s also some nice soft floral notes. The copal and labdanum combination is resinous but slightly dry and powdery, but it’s earthy without being too much like dirt. The heliotrope lends a nice warm floral tone, and the stargazer lily lends a light freshness that I’m identifying most as being what’s adding that effervescence. Overall Impressions: I thought I may like this from the notes, but unfortunately the tonka stayed hidden (it’s one of my favorite notes) and the copal and labdanum came out more. The hint of floral notes is nice, but I found this to be a bit to earthy for my taste. I can see it turning gorgeous on the right chemistry though.

    Nocturne

In bottle/imp: Deep smoky violet. Immediately on skin: This is a very deep violet scent with the sweetness toned down a bit. The lilac adds a cool tone to the blend and really meshes well with the violet. After a little while: The tuberose has come out a bit and now this is a very deep, dark and exotic violet scent. This has the creaminess of violet, the depth of lilac, and the light headiness of tuberose. It’s really nicely blended together. Overall Impressions: Violet is one of the notes that usually go super sweet on me and dominate blends, but in this one the violet is nicely restrained by the other floral notes. It’s a very sweet and almost smoky blend and is a “darker” violet than a lot of others I’ve tried.

    Les Fleurs du Mal

In bottle/imp: Warm rose and soulful wisteria… it’s a warm but deep scent. Immediately on skin: This is a little bitter and powdery on my skin… but there’s definitely some rose in here. There’s a deeper flower note (the wisteria perhaps?) and it’s interacting with the rose to create a deep but almost plastic scent. Very odd… After a little while: This smells like a powdery mix of rose and wisteria… it’s very dry. It’s slightly sweet and very floral, but it has an annoying amount of powder going on. Overall Impressions: I like these floral notes separately, but there’s something about the combination here that turned to powder on me. It’s a perfume-y blend… very wearable as well. It’s on the slightly colder side, and it’s a melancholy fragrance for sure.

    Shub-Niggurath

In bottle/imp: Warm, spicy ginger. Immediately on skin: The ginger in this is the most identifiable scent. There’s also some other spices, and a slightly cloying earthiness. It’s a slightly sweetened blend, but not overly so. After a few minutes: I really like this... it's reminding me of Gingerbread Poppet without the annoying bready note I get from that and Pumpkin Cheesecake. It's not overly sweet, but it is slightly so with the gingers coming out strong and other spices in the background. There's also a slight creaminess to the blend. Overall Impressions: Shub is Gingerbread Poppet’s slightly less foody cousin. It’s a warm ginger-dominated blend with a gentle sweetness and hints of other spices. It doesn’t have that bread note that GP has, which is good for me as I don’t enjoy that note. I find it to be a very warm, comforting ginger blend.

    Mme. Moriarty Claw Polish

Mme Moriarty was the first polish I tried when I got my order recently. I applied a base coat, 3 coats of Mme Moriarty, and then a top coat. For the first coat I had a hard time applying this as thin as really is required with the Claw Polishes and it was rather streaky. After the third coat, however, I was left with a deep, dark almost cool red. I was sort of surprised since it's so bright on the site, but once I went outside it was this vibrant almost enamel-like glowing red color. I would definitely liken the color to blood, and there's a richness to it that really gives the color a nice depth. I tend to get quite a bit of polish on the skin around my nails when I paint them. I was so incredibly impressed though that within 6-8 hours after applying the polish that had gotten on my skin was just flaking right off by itself, though it was staying wonderfully on my nails. The next morning I had nails that looked like I went to the salon the day before. The polish lasted about 4 days before I got a sizable enough chip and flaking on the edges to annoy me into taking it off and trying out another claw polish. I did a few touch ups in the 4 days, though it was only one tiny chip and some of the polish wearing away on the top edge and corners of my nails. For such a vibrant color, I was very happy with the staying power. And if you are like me and love to peel off your polish, this comes off quite nicely that way!

    Maiden Claw Polish

This color is very proper and innocent. Indoors it's a very light sheer nude and in the sun it has a little more pink. This color is a perfect one if you're not necessarily looking for attention, but still want your nails to look like you take care of them. I applied a base coat, 3 coats of Maiden and a topcoat and my nails are sheer enough to show a little bit of white at the ends, but just opaque enough to hide any minor blemishes on my nails. The polish dried pretty fast, and didn't seem as streaky during application as Mme Moriarty did on me.

    Haunted

In bottle/imp: Powdery amber, and dry musk. Immediately on skin: Yep. Amber and musk! The amber is light and warm, and the musk is dry and very deep. There seems to be something else here though… frankincense? It’s slightly spiced and golden, so maybe it’s the golden amber itself. But whatever it is, it adds a slight sweet spiciness to this which is rather nice. After a little while: From a few inches away, this is softly sweet amber and musk with a bit of spice, but closer it gets a little dry and the sweetness gets overpowered by the black musk. It’s a very strong scent, and deep… and very very dark. Overall Impressions: This one is sort of nice on me. Almost wearable I’d say, but it walks a thin line between warm and musky, and dry and annoying. There’s almost a honey like depth to this at it’s best, but at it’s worst it’s very powdery, dry black musk. It’s a finicky scent.

    The Ghost

A thin, sinuous, creeping chill, the scent of glee-filled undeath: white iris, osmanthus, Calla lily, tomb-crawling ivy and a coffin spray of gladiolus, lisianthus and delphinium. In bottle/imp: Deep, dark resins and white flowers. Immediately on skin: This is a mix of all different flowers, but it’s mostly dry, creamy, and slightly powdery. There’s a bit of lily to this, and of something a lot like violet, but it doesn’t have the sweetness of it. After a little while: Plastic and powdery lightly vanilla scented white flowers. SO much plastic to this… it’s so disappointing, really. I have no idea which note it is, either. Overall Impressions: I thought this was pretty at first; floral, but lightly so and a bit spring-like. But then came the plastic note of DOOOOOM, which really disappointed me. I don’t think the scent of this at first really drew me in anyway, so whether or not that plastic note had shown up, I probably wouldn’t have gotten more.

    Epitaph

In bottle/imp: Old perfume and water vapor (yeah, really). Immediately on skin: This is ghostly roses and lilies… like a traditional perfume and light, wet vapor. It’s lightened, but it’s still a traditional smelling blend to me. After a little while: This is a lighter but still classical rose and lily scent on me. It’s very well blended though and there’s definitely something more there… maybe a hint of bergamot? The note gives this a haunting tanginess that is quite pleasant. Overall Impressions: This is a very pretty scent with a traditional perfume feel, but there’s a little more to it. It’s just a touch haunting and I’m not sure what really causes that, but it’s nice and just a little different.

    Embalming Fluid

In bottle/imp: Citrus green tea. It’s crisp and fresh. Immediately on skin: This is a very crisp, light green tea and citrus scent. It’s very fresh with the green tea and the citrus mixing together seamlessly. As with most blends including white musk, I can’t really smell that note on its own; instead it’s this cool, dry musk that just permeates the whole blend. After a little while: The citrus dies down a little and this settles into a crisp green tea fragrance. There’s hints of the white musk, but it just adds to the cooler, fresh feel of this blend. Overall Impressions: I love the lab’s tea blends and this one is really lovely. It’s on the unisex side, and would be a great warm weather fragrance. It’s very fresh and crisp with a nice citrus bite and a lot of lovely green tea. My husband tried this blend on and it's one of his favorites as well.

    Yggdrasil

In bottle/imp: Herbs and wood. A cooler scent… not very dry. Immediately on skin: This is a lot more fresh than I was expecting. It’s got a bit of wood in it, including pine, and dry, green herbs. In fact, it’s getting heavier on the pine even as I sniff it. After a little while: This has become much dryer… and the pine has retreated. Now it’s a dry wood scent (definitely a mix of different ones like cedar as well as dryer, blonde woods. The herbal notes are very dry, but there’s also a mix of all different ones. I think I get sage, but other than that I can’t pick them out. The wood and herbal notes are very well balanced though. Overall Impressions: This one is just like I expected from the description: a mix of woods and herbs. It’s not too strong and seems to lie close to the skin. It has a dry feel, and a slightly dusty feel too.

    Velvet

In bottle/imp: Warm, gently spiced chocolate. Immediately on skin: This is creamy chocolate, but it’s not completely foody; it’s slightly toned down by the light warmth of the sandalwood. There’s also a soft kick of vanilla, which is nice. After a little while: This changed from chocolate to almost a coconut fragrance… interesting. The cocoa is still there, but it’s a very light undertone to the scent. The sandalwood and vanilla plus a bit of myrrh are what are creating the soft coconut-like fragrance I’m smelling now. It’s not very sweet, and is actually sort of dry and has a very light dirt smell to it. It’s not unpleasant, but I miss the chocolate note I got at first. Overall Impressions: This fragrance is so yummy at first… it’s creamy chocolate, but the sandalwood tones down the foody quality to it. Unfortunately it morphed so much on me I can barely smell the cocoa anymore. I hope others have more luck with that note staying. As for me, this is definitely a contender if I get a scent locket.

    Umbra

In bottle/imp: Patchouli with a sweet, perfume-y edge. Immediately on skin: This is a very deep, dark and smoky patchouli and cedar blend with a lot of sweetness to it. The vetiver adds a smoky richness to this, and the cinnamon just adds a subtle spice. After a little while: The sweetness has disappeared and this has become a very dark, bitter patchouli and cedar fragrance with the strong smokiness of vetiver. This is very heavy, dirty patchouli and dry cedar. It smells to me of dirt mixed with cedar chips. Overall Impressions: The sweetness in this was nice at first, but it disappeared pretty quickly. I’m not a patchouli fan to begin with, so I didn’t love either the sweeter or darker bits of this, but I find the drydown even more so not me. If you love cedar and patchouli and don’t mind the smokiness of vetiver, this one may be for you.
  22. Delirium1009

    Ultraviolet

Electrifying, mechanized and chilly -- the scent of crushed blooms strewn on cold metal. Lush violet and neroli spiked hard with eucalyptus and a sliver of mint. In bottle/imp: Violet and ivy with a sharp bit of mint and medicinal eucalyptus. Immediately on skin: I have a violet and moss perfume oil from another company (well, it’s called “Libra,” but it smells just like Fresh’s Violet & Moss scent) and the first whiff I get of this smells exactly like that. It’s violet, plus green and almost aquatic notes. Then the mint blends in, very sharp and the eucalyptus adds a slight medicinal twinge. After a little while: This has become a slightly sharp violet scent now with a little bit of moss or ivy. The mint and eucalyptus have just about disappeared, so all I’m left with is that first impression I got when I applied it, but not very strongly. It’s slightly less sweet than other violet blends, so that is nice. Overall Impressions: This had me excited at first with the aquatic, lush quality it had and then the bright, biting mint. The mint faded way too fast and what was left on my skin was nothing special… I hope others have better luck than I do with this one. It might be a good candidate for a scent locket.
  23. Delirium1009

    Ulalume

In bottle/imp: Sweet lily plus some darker woodiness and something that smells like orange peel. Immediately on skin: The lily in this is strong, but it’s on the sweeter side and not soapy. There’s definitely wood here, but it’s light and fresh. The undertone of the scent is aquatic, but lush… like ivy or fresh moss. This is very fresh and floral mostly however… the other notes are more of a background/undertone. After a little while: This scent has really opened up. The aquatic notes have come out further to give the whole blend a sweet fresh watery quality, which blends nicely with the sweet lily. The cypress isn’t really present, but the oak adds a subtle light woodiness to the background of this now. It’s a fresh, slightly tangy sweet aquatic floral scent. Overall Impressions: This blend is very pretty. It’s a bit strong on the lily, but it’s sweeter than I’ve found in other blends and doesn’t go soapy on me. The combination of the wood notes and aquatics give this a very grounded quality, but it’s fresh and sweetly girly at the same time.
  24. Delirium1009

    Twenty-One

In bottle/imp: This smells like alcohol… sharp, boozy, but not sweet. Very dry. Immediately on skin: I know nothing about alcoholic drinks, but this smells like Sprite or 7 Up without any sweetness and a bit of vodka. After a little while: I know that martinis aren’t usually fizzy, but that is how this one smells. It’s a dry, fizzy boozy scent with a touch of citrus. There’s really no sweetness to it, but it smells rather fizzy and bubbly. Overall Impressions: I’ve never smelled a martini or drank one, but this is a fun scent. It smells bubbly to me for some reason, but that might be the booze I smell. It’s a dry scent, and I think it’s very unisex. It’s a lighter fragrance and seemed to fade rather quickly into nothing on my skin.
  25. Delirium1009

    Tempest

In bottle/imp: Salty, crisp ozone. I can feel it in my nose. Immediately on skin: This is a very strong, salty, and crisp ozone scent. It’s electric and crackling. After a little while: The ozone is still all I smell… it’s salty and electric. On me, it’s a very clean mix of an airy scent and a metal scent with a bit of electricity thrown in. It’s not sharp, but it is very crisp. Overall Impressions: I found this to be very close to Lightning, except this is lacking the aquatic note Lightning has. It’s not too strong, but it is a very crisp scent with a unisex feel.
