In bottle/imp: Boozy, alcoholic vanilla. Immediately on skin: This is mostly vanilla, with some booze and a light bit of the green note from Snow White… maybe bamboo, or stems. It has this lovely, creamy frosting-like vanilla note blending into this bright, tangy green scent that really is rather pretty and unexpected. The booze that I got at first sniff kind of melts away from the green note. After a little while: The more I wear this, the more I love it. It’s all boozy, thick, rich vanilla (and no powder in sight!) with just a touch of that green note still lingering in the background. Overall Impressions: I love this scent. Vanilla can sometimes turn to powder on me, but the one in this stays rich and foody. There’s this really nice green background note that keeps this scent from being too foody, however, which is really nice. If the final version of this is as nice as the prototype, I need at least a couple of bottles!

In bottle/imp: Red musk and powdery amber, or something like that. Musky and dirty smelling. Immediately on skin: This smells musky and sexy. It’s very deep and resinous, but has this dry note that tickles my nose. I think resin, red musk, and some amber. There’s also a metallic edge to this. After a little while: This scent stays pretty much the same on my skin as it dries. It’s sexy red musk with something resinous and a powdery note. The metallic edge seems lighter, but it still lingers. I might get just a touch of leather, too, but it’s faint. Overall Impressions: This scent is rich and deep, dry and mysterious. It’s feminine, but just slightly so. This scent is sexy and self-assured.

In bottle/imp: Lots of deep, dark florals with a very clean, almost soapy edge. Immediately on skin: This smells like lots of flowers all strewn together. It’s got soapy ones and deeper, sexier ones, but it’s still just about all floral notes. The deeper note reminds me of one of the flowers in Dark Delicacies… black orchid, perhaps? This is much more floral and less dark than that scent, however. After a little while: This gets a little more soapy and less dark as it dries. The higher floral notes seem to stick around while the deeper ones have all but faded. Overall Impressions: Flowers, flowers, flowers. Lots of them, from soapy, clean smelling ones, to more sinister and darker blooms. The pretty, lighter flowers stick around for the dry down, while the darker ones seem to fade however. Very pretty, but not something I’d wear.

In bottle/imp: Stone, leather and vetiver. This is very bitter and dank. Immediately on skin: This smells of bitter greenery, damp stone, and leather. It’s quite an atmospheric scent, and is quite complex. After a little while: This gets a little less bitter as time goes on, and even a touch sweet. I smell a lot more incense and a background of damp stone and leather. Overall Impressions: This scent is very interesting in the way that it really does smell like a dark stone dungeon. Quite interesting, and I love the stone note. This isn’t something I’d wear, but I can see myself pulling out my partial decant just to smell it.
-
In bottle/imp: Deep musks and resins with a slightly bitter undertone. Immediately on skin: This is heavy on the musk and resin, but it’s a very powdery scent. It’s dry and slightly bitter with an earthiness to it but a slight warmth. After a few minutes: This is so powdery on me, like dark, musky, baby powder poured over resin. There’s no sweetness in this at all, and the warm note has pretty much disappeared.
-
In bottle/imp: Dried flowers and plants and light spices. Immediately on skin: This smells like the dried flowers/plants section of a craft store. It’s slightly spicy and sweet, but also powdery, herbal, and dry. This blend is very grounded; it smells earthy and solid. After a few minutes: This hasn’t morphed much… it’s still a dry, slightly spicy, earthy scent. It has a slightly cool feel from the chamomile, and the sage lends a dry, herbal feel, but I really can’t pick out any other notes.

In bottle/imp: I smell alcoholic coffee and a finish of tonka. Very creamy but a little bit too alcoholic for me. Immediately on skin: This smells like nutty, rubbery and alcoholic coffee. The nuttiness is the wood, I think. This is very fragrant, rich, and warm with a touch of spice. After a little while: This smells much the same as when I first put it on: nutty, alcoholic, rubbery coffee. It’s an interesting scent, but a bit powdery on me. Overall Impressions: I was hoping for a scent close to Pinched With Four Aces, but this blend falls a bit short. Still nice, an alcoholic coffee scent with just a touch of annoying rubber and powder. I wish it worked a bit better on me.

In bottle/imp: Light florals, a bit of dry spiciness. Immediately on skin: This smells of light florals and bay, with a touch of clove. It’s not sweet or particularly warm or creamy on me, like I was hoping. It’s a little herbal and dry with a touch of powder, and then just a touch of warm sweetness from the carnation. After a few minutes: The carnation comes out a bit more, and the bay dies down. This smells like lightly sweet carnations with a very powdery finish. After a little while: The carnation seems to fade a bit, which lets the other notes come out. Now this is a very warm but powdery sweet and earthy scent. I get a bit of patchouli and sandalwood spiced up a little by clove. It’s dry and warm, but has a hint of baby powder to it. Overall Impressions: Yoohoo, vanilla, where are you? I had such high hopes for this blend, but the creaminess I was hoping for just wasn’t there. I got lots of carnation, then after an hour or 2 I finally got some spiced warm earthiness. I’m sure others will have better luck with this one, but it doesn’t work well on me.

In bottle/imp: Lots of spice and plum. Immediately on skin: This smells of potpourri, all spice and brown sugar with plum. It reminds me of a hot spiced fruit drink you would drink in the fall. I smell a lot of spice, but not just clove. After a little while: This really hasn’t morphed much on my skin. It’s all spiced brown sugar and plums, and smells very holiday-ish. This blend is sweet and spicy with a nice fruitiness. Overall Impressions: Smelling this scent in the summer is so odd because of how un-summery it is. It’s moreso a late fall or winter scent. It’s heavy on the spice, but I don’t get just clove from this… more like miscellaneous spices. Along with that is thick sweetness (though not very caramel-y) and lots of plum. Very pretty, but I don’t think I’d wear it.

In bottle/imp: This scent is so odd. It smells to me like buttered popcorn Jelly Belly jelly beans and pepper. Immediately on skin: At first I’m hit with pepper, than creamy coconut, then for some reason I think I smell maple. Then all of a sudden it just starts smelling like the buttered popcorn flavor of Jelly Belly jelly beans… it’s sort of sweet, buttery and almost caramelized, with a bit of pepper on top. After a little while: This scent smells of coconut candy now, maybe a bit like macaroons. It’s sweet, creamy and very heavy on the coconut with only a hint of black pepper now. Overall Impressions: If you like sweet coconut scents, you’d probably love this. I ache for something a little more coplex, even with the pepper. It smells a bit odd at first, but dries down to a lightly peppered coconut macaroon scent. It’s very sweet and smells quite yummy.

In bottle/imp: Ginger and pumpkin muffins, with a bit of tropical mango. Immediately on skin: This scent is thick and almost buttery pumpkin and ginger with sweet, tropical mango. It smells like baked goods in fall, with some of summer’s mango tarts still sticking around. It also smells like a Yankee Candle scent unfortunately. After a little while: This scent has a lot more pumpkin and amber after a while, and less mango to lighten it up. It’s not as spicy, but it’s still very thick and almost buttery. Overall Impressions: This scent smells of fall baked goods, all buttery and thick and rich. It’s a bit too heavy for me, and the pumpkin is a bit too dominant.
-
In bottle/imp: A blast of apricot, overpowered with vetiver and a little coconut. Earthy and smoky, and a bit rubbery. Immediately on skin: This smells of smoky vetiver with the apricot and a hint of currant trying to sweeten it up, and the coconut adding sort of a rubbery note. After a little while: This scent stays mostly vetiver, though the apricot, currant and coconut add a sort of lightness to it. This scent is rubbery, smoky, and deep with a lightness over the top. It tries to be sweet, but fails. Overall Impressions: This scent is mostly vetiver on me, when I was really hoping that all the other notes (which I love) may win out over it. They try, boy do they try, but it’s still a very dark, smoky, earthy and almost rubbery blend with just overtones of apricot, currant and coconut.

In bottle/imp: Cotton candy, berry and… banana? Immediately on skin: This blend is very candy-like with a lot of super sweet berry notes. Mostly I get the two berry notes with a lot of the candyfloss, and the vanilla as sort of the base. There’s something cloying about this to my nose, however; the candyfloss and berries are clashing with another note and not quite blending well. Overall, this is a very sweet blend without anything to temper it. A few minutes later: The clashing note faded and now this scent is all berry candy with a touch of sweet pea. After a little while: Sweet, sweet, sweet! The assertiveness of the huckleberry note has faded, but this is still berries and cotton candy, but now with more creamy vanilla to it. Very pretty and candy-like. Overall Impressions: From start to finish, this scent was much too sweet for me unfortunately. For those that love candy-like scents, I would highly recommend this blend. It’s all berries and candyfloss with hints of sweet pea and vanilla wafting in and out.

In bottle/imp: Fresh, juicy pear and lime. Immediately on skin: This smells very green, in a very fruity way. Juicy pear and lime blend together, with a full-bodied tea note adding body. The base smells of slightly warm musk, and the whole blend is very fresh and sweet. A few minutes later: The pear note has faded a little, and now this is more of a tea scent with a bit of lime, just a touch of pear, and a lightly herbal background. Still sweet and very pretty and fresh. After a little while: This scent gets a bit more muddled as time goes on. It’s lightly musky with fresh tea notes and a touch of creamy lime. It smells pretty, but is kind of unremarkable on my skin now. Overall Impressions: This scent was very bright when fresh, with that juicy pear note. However, after I wore it I started to feel sort of meh about it, as it started to smell less of a burst of lime and pear and more like a slightly fruity tea and musk scent. I imagine others may have more luck with these notes.

In bottle/imp: Warm musk and light spice, accented with creamy tonka. Immediately on skin: This smells of dirty spice and musk to me with a hint of warm creaminess. I think the cardamom is turning on my skin, or the bourbon vanilla is not working on me. This smells powdery and dirty on my skin. A few minutes later: The dirty feel has gone, though this is still a little powdery. It smells of warm, sensual musk mixed with powdery vanilla. The cardamom is very dry, and not sweet. After a little while: This scent gets much prettier as I wear it. It’s all creamy musk and a touch of spice with a nice creaminess to it. It’s very feminine and sensual in a quiet, waiting way. A bit dry as well. Overall Impressions: This blend scared me at first, as it smelled a bit “off” on my skin, but after just a few moments it settled into a very warm, creamy musk scent that got my attention. So far, this is my favorite of the moth scents.
-
In bottle/imp: Herbal and slightly spiced with a touch of sweet violets. Immediately on skin: This smells like an herbal tea, mostly chamomile and citrus. It smells almost like the leaves of a lemon mint plant. There’s also a fruity violet-like undertone, which is definitely the orris. It’s a touch sweet, but not overly so. After a little while: This scent isn’t as citrus-y anymore. It’s mellowed into a dry orris and herb scent with just a hint of tea and a touch of sweetness. Overall Impressions: This scent is very pretty, but much too herbal for me. Mostly it’s an herbal scent with hints of tea and fruity orris, and is a bit on the powdery side. It’s a little sweet, but more herbal and almost creamy than anything. Interesting, but not something I’d wear.
-
In bottle/imp: Sweat and booze. Immediately on skin: Sweet, thick, and cloying. Lots of booze, with a very sugary feel. This smells dirty, which I guess is the point. It smells of a thick crust of sugar with rich alcohol poured over it, left to sit in a warm room all day. After a little while: Pencil shavings soaked in sugar and alcohol. This smells very wrong on me… Overall Impressions: I understand how some people would love this, but it’s very bad on me. The scent is thick, cloying, and overpowering on my skin, with a definite sweaty and boozy, dirty feel. Not for me.
-
In bottle/imp: Very bright and floral, with an almost green, pine-like feel to it. Immediately on skin: This scent is very bright. It smells of flowers, but what kind I have no idea. The main feel of this is an odd floral citrus/pine note that’s very crisp and refreshing. After a little while: The overwhelming citrus/pine floral I got at first has faded a bit, and now this is much more of a tea scent with some sweet hibiscus and that mystery floral. This is crisp and almost winter-y. Overall Impressions: This scent is very refreshing, though the floral note I get at first is a bit overwhelming. After a while it really balances nicely, however. This scent is very reminiscent of the Shivering Boy to me, without as much pine and ice. This is lighter, and the tea gives it a more watery, misty feel.
-
In bottle/imp: Very floral plum, with a background of warm incense. Immediately on skin: To me this smells like violet candies with plum blossoms. Separating it out I think it’s the plum blossom, jonquil, and amber incense all blending together. It’s slightly fruity, floral, and creamy all at the same time. After a little while: This no longer smells of violet candies to me. Now it’s a very sweet scent, mostly amber incense and plum with hints of other rich floral notes. The sandalwood adds a bit of a dry, warm note. Overall Impressions: This scent is sweet and thick, fruity and rich but a touch dry. It smells almost of amber and plum blossom candy.
-
In bottle/imp: Mostly myrrh, with a warm creaminess blending with fruit. Immediately on skin: This smells of amber and plum, equally balanced with a resinous undertone and a hint of orange blossom (which smells a tiny bit like corn chips to my nose). After a little while: This scent is a bit sweet fruitiness mixing with amber and resin. It’s dark, a bit fruity, and a little warm and sensual as well. Overall Impressions: This smells of mostly plum and amber with resin, and the other lighter notes floating about adding a lightness to the overtone of the scent. Pretty, but a bit dark and dry for me.
-
In bottle/imp: Vetiver and coconut with a bit of fruitiness. It’s very rich and deep, but a little sweet as well. Immediately on skin: This smells of earthy coconut with a nutty overlay and a hint of sweet peach at the very top. After a little while: This scent is a bit cloying on me. It’s sweet, syrupy peach over earthy coconut and resins. The florals kind of flit about, blending with the peach. Overall Impressions: This scent is very interesting and complex, with the peach and florals above and the coconut, vetiver and myrrh below. It blends into something almost creamy and fruity, but earthy and dark.
-
In bottle/imp: Dry amber and musk with incense in the background. Immediately on skin: This scent is very powdery to my nose. It smells of dry amber and musk with a bit of ylang ylang. It’s mostly powdery, but also has a bit of a floral feel. After a little while: This is still a very dry, powdery scent on me. I get lots of musk and amber, with the ylang ylang adding a thick floral edge. Overall Impressions: This scent is too thick and powdery on me, unfortunately. I think it’s the musk and amber, but none of these notes are really that fabulous on me anyway.
-
In bottle/imp: Myrrh with ginger and pepper. Immediately on skin: This smells very bitter to me. The ginger and resin are the main notes I smell, with little nips of pepper and clove. The dragon’s blood is an overtone to the whole scent, and blends very well into the myrrh and spiced notes. After a little while: This is all myrrh—lots and lots of myrrh—with little hints of other notes. It’s very resinous with just a little spice from the ginger and clove, though I can’t smell the black pepper any longer. The dragon’s blood has also faded away. Overall Impressions: This is a great blend if you like resins, especially with a hint of spice. It mellows out from its initial spiciness into a very myrrh-dominated blend, but I guess it may behave better on other people. Interesting, but not my kind of blend.
-
In bottle/imp: Fruit, floral notes, and patchouli all mashed together. Immediately on skin: This is like a fruity, floral deep sandalwood scent with a bit of gritty patchouli in the background. It smells very perfumey on me, which I think may be the dark amber. The apricot and pink pepper kind of flit around at the top of the scent. After a little while: This becomes more of a sandalwood and patchouli heavy scent after a while, slightly gritty but warm, with hints of fruit and rose. The rose isn’t overpowering in this at all, and this has a drier feel to it. Overall Impressions: This scent is mainly patchouli and sandalwood on me, with sweeter notes like apricot, pink pepper, and rose balancing it out. It’s a little gritty, but it doesn’t smell like dirt or anything. Honey is a big fail note on me, and I can’t smell it in this blend. Fruity, earthy, dry, and a touch floral, but this is a bit heavy on the patchouli for me.
-
In bottle/imp: Violet and marshmallows, plus a bite of juniper. Immediately on skin: This smells very much so of smooth, cool violet mushed together with some marshmallow and a clean floral note. This scent doesn’t seem to blend together well to my nose and reminds me very much of a Yankee Candle store, when you sniff one thing but end up smelling dozens of other scents at the same time, too. After a little while: This definitely blends better as I wear it. It’s now more like orris marshmallows, almost like violet just a bit more watery, cool, and powdery. Overall Impressions: This scent is nice, but it’s not a wow scent on me. It smells disjointed at first with a mash of mismatched notes. However, after a while the orris and mallow blend together nicely and the other notes fade into the background.
