    Kumari Kandam

In bottle/imp: Sharp pine and mint with a lot of incense. Immediately on skin: The first notes that hit me are a combo of mint and either a light pine or cypress, or maybe eucalyptus. It’s sharp and fiercely chilly. Then comes the incense, smoky and swirling about. This isn’t an earthy blend, but there is a chilly stone-like quality to this. After a little while: This has morphed into a very crisp men’s cologne. The stony feel is still there, as well as the pine/mint combo (this has lightened considerably), but now I also get the aquatic notes. This is crisp and chilly with a very damp feel. Overall Impressions: I think this would be a great unisex scent and the way it dries down on me reminds me of more traditional cologne scents. It is and interesting mix of rocky and piney notes that feels extremely crisp and clean. This isn’t for me, but I might like to try it on my husband. I think it is very sharp at first though.

    Kathmandu

In bottle/imp: Spicy cough syrup. Immediately on skin: This smells like cough syrup at first sniff... very spicy cough syrup. When I dissect it though, it’s the combo of lotus, cedar and spices that are coming across that way. It’s sharp, medicinal, and heavy on the cedar. After a little while: The lotus fades out of this and the cough syrup aspect goes away. What lingers is something dry but cloying and woody. The cedar and saffron are evident but there’s something thick here as well. Maybe like burned spices? It’s odd. Overall Impressions: This scent just does not agree with me. I like lotus, but not when it’s combined with clashing notes. In this case, the woods and spices at first combine with it and make it very medicinal smelling, but it fades rather quickly. After that this scent enters into a cloying, woody phase that my nose just doesn’t like. Not a winner for me.

    The Isles of Demons

In bottle/imp: Musk and slightly bitter resins. Immediately on skin: This is ashy and musky with a subtle incense or resinous sweetness to it. There’s this very far off light pine note as well, or maybe some very light herbs. After a little while: This changes to an ashy, dark, smoky blend with a very fruity light floral note on me. There’s an interesting dry feel to this… not powdery in a bad way, but dry as in incense ashes. Overall Impressions: This is one of those blends I probably wouldn’t wear, but are a treat to experience. This has such an amazing ashy note to it… it’s dry and dark, like incense ashes. But there’s more to this, a complexity that makes it wearable and almost, dare I say it, pretty.

    Ile de la Tortue

In bottle/imp: Very green and soapy with a very dark undertone. Immediately on skin: The main thing I get from this scent is a soapy green feel, but followed by sweet orchid and an undertone of what seems to be oakmoss. There’s an ozone type of feel to this as well, lying over the orchid. This is a thick scent, and rocky, but still very lush. After a little while: This becomes such a cool floral scent on my skin. Basically everything fades away except oakmoss, orchid, and an underlying soft green note. This is sweet orchid and oakmoss… so pretty. Overall Impressions: This blend is not nearly as dark as I was expecting. The orchid and oakmoss just come out and slap me in the face. This is a cooler blend, and on the sweet side. There’s a bit of complexity at first, and while it may stick around on other people, it certainly went away on my skin. Pretty, but I don’t think I’d wear it much.

    Hollywood Babylon

In bottle/imp: Powdery amber and cherry… something about this burns my nose a little. Immediately on skin: Uh oh. I smell it: the dreaded plastic vanilla note. This is the exact same vanilla that is in Dragon’s Milk, and it turns into total plastic vanilla-scented babydoll heads on me. Behind that is a little amber, and a bit of strawberry or cherry… but the vanilla is too distracting for me to really find the other notes in this. After a little while: That annoying plastic vanilla note is still center-stage, but the amber and heliotrope have come out a little more. The strawberry and cherry are nowhere to be found, as is the red musk. Overall Impressions: This sucks, really. I can smell some of the other notes and this would be sooo nice if the vanilla didn’t turn into the plastic note of doom. The amber and heliotrope give this such a warm feel. It’s really too bad this goes so horrible on me.

    The Hanging Gardens

In bottle/imp: Lots of fruit and sweet florals. I can pick out the pomegranate, plum, gardenia and plumeria. Immediately on skin: The first thing that hits me is the sweet, thick, and almost gummy floral scent I get from the gardenia in blends like Marae and Unheavenly City. Blending into that is a mix of juicy fruit: pomegranage, plum, and pear. The plumeria is here as well, sweet but not as thick as the gardenia. This is a very sweet fruity blend with the gardenia as the main note. After a little while: As I wear this, the gardenia comes out and the plumeria recedes. The gardenia isn’t just the main note any longer: this is a gardenia blend with the fruit just lingering in the background. The pomegranate, plum, and pear are strong and sweet, but not tart at all. Overall Impressions: This smells very red to me… a very bright fuschia/red blend. This is strong on the gardenia, and has a very strong throw as well. This is a very in-your-face sweet gardenia and fruit blend. Unfortunately though, this doesn’t seem very well balanced on me; I don’t really get anything to temper that sweetness.

The rich scent of wild blackberry breezing over gentle rosy heather. In bottle/imp: Spicy heather. Immediately on skin: As soon as this was on my skin, the peppery feel I got from the imp is gone. I now smell the sweet and cool heather and a gentle hint of blackberry in the distance. There is sort of an herbal undertone to this though. After a little while: As I wear this, the heather calms down into this soothing, cool blue floral. It’s lightly peppery and subtly sweet. The barest hint of blackberries lingers beneath, adding a gentle but perceptible sweetness. I have to say though that this has gotten very light on me. It doesn’t seem to have much throw, though the scent is nice. Overall Impressions: This isn’t the most complex scent bpal has, but it’s light, cool, and pretty. It has a definite cool floral feel with a gentle pepperiness in the heather. The blackberry note isn’t as strong as the heather, but it whispers gently in the blend. Very pretty, and definitely a great spring scent.

    Florence

In bottle/imp: Very sharp herbs and light berries. Immediately on skin: This is a very light pine scent to my nose, with hints of berries. I don’t get the floral scent that I usually get from the lab’s iris note. There’s a harsh sharpness to this as well. After a little while: That pine feel I get settles pretty quickly, though there is still an herbal undertone to this. After a while I get a slightly bitter powdery floral and berry scent. It’s a warm scent, and has a little sweetness from the berries. Overall Impressions: This scent didn’t seem to work for me at all: there’s an odd sharp herbal/pine thing I get from this, and the amber seems powdery. I’m not sure why it’s going so wrong, but I just don’t like this one on me… the notes don’t seem to be playing well on my skin.

In bottle/imp: Sweet, fluffy coconut and almond. Immediately on skin: This smells like almond and coconut frosting. It’s sweet, creamy, and fragrant. There’s a slight hint of fig (the fruit) in the background of this, but the coconut and almond definitely dominate. After a little while: The almond and coconut confection I was getting at first has faded into something a bit less foody and sweet. The fig fruit has come out a lot more and is the base of this scent now, and the coconut and almond blend in lightly, along with a nice touch of sandalwood. There is also a little green bite to this from the fig leaf that I can feel as I sniff this. There’s a grittiness to this that wasn’t evident in the blend until the fig came out as well. Overall Impressions: This blend was love at first sniff… until it morphed that is. I loved the almond and coconut frosting scent that I got out of the imp and immediately on my skin, but when this dried down the fig started to dominate the blend and gave it an almost gritty and sour feel. I’ll have to try this in my scent locket because I love the wet stage of this.

    Delphi

In bottle/imp: Smoky incense with some bright, fruity sweet scent mixed in. Immediately on skin: This is a bit astringent when I apply it. It’s just a tiny bit smoky and sweet, but very sharp. There’s definitely a green scent in there as well. After a few minutes: This is a very interesting blend… it’s a bit dry with a smoky, herbal, and slightly sweet feel. The honey wine is there, but it’s light. The bay is probably adding the herbal note to the scent, and smoky incense is mixing nicely with everything else. Overall Impressions: This is a very pretty scent. It seems very golden and dry to me… when I close my eyes, it makes me think of sand and warm breezes. It’s herbal, but not in a bitter way, and is very smoky and complex. The slight sweetness makes it very pleasant, and it really is more of a honey wine than honey note (slightly sweet, but fermented).

    Danube

In bottle/imp: Fruity florals and sweet, cool water. Immediately on skin: The floral notes are the stars of this blend; they’re fruity, sweet, and very fragrant. Oh, wait… after just a moment on my skin an underlying smoky flowery note comes out and joins the fruity sweetness. In the background swirls the cool water. It’s fresh and clean… a sparkling silver immaculately kept pond scent. After a little while: As I wear this, it gets more floral and less aquatic. It’s a perfume-y scent on me; it’s a nice mix between sweet, bright florals and something a bit cooler and smokier. Overall Impressions: This is a very pretty and smooth floral blend. The way the rhododendron and bellflower mix creates this sweet and slightly fruity but almost cool and smoky perfume scent. The aquatic notes are evident at first, but fade to the background as I wear this. It’s pretty and cool with a distinct deep flowery feel to it.

    Crossroads

In bottle/imp: Lots and lots of jasmine with a background of incense and moss. Immediately on skin: This is very smoky and floral. The main night flower I smell is jasmine, but there’s also a bit of champaca flower and some incense. This has a slithery type of note in the background… probably the moss. This is a very bitter scent on me. After a little while: This settled into a very smoky and dark jasmine and champaca scent. It has a slightly wet, mossy feel to the base of the scent. Overall Impressions: This scent is quite a disappointment on me because the jasmine is so heavy. It’s rather bitter and smoky on me, and there’s also champaca flower which tends to be equally smoky (though I actually like that note). The incense smoke swirls in the background, but the floral notes are dominant.

    Cockaigne

In bottle/imp: Sweet, foody cake. Almost like pastry… crisp and flakey smelling. Immediately on skin: This is a very foody scent. It smells like pastries… thick, crispy pastries drizzled in honey. It has almost a saltiness to it, which gives it a crusty feel. After a little while: All I get from this still is that flakey buttery pastry scent. It’s a bit salty, a bit sweet, and smells very golden and yummy. Overall Impressions: This scent is that of baked, golden cakes. I don’t smell anything else, not really a creaminess and definitely no wine. It reminds me of the tart crust note in Knave of Hearts (without the rose and currant, of course). It’s a very true pastry/crust scent though. This is totally and completely foody and rich. If you want to smell like sweet, baked pastry or tart crust, I’d definitely say you should try this blend.

    Bayou

In bottle/imp: Thick, damp, and swampy with lots of waxy green plants and hanging moss. Immediately on skin: This scent is an interesting mix between thick swampy plants and fresher evergreen ones. It’s a very damp and overgrown scent. There’s almost too many plant notes clashing in this: cologne-y moss, fruity flowers, waxy swamp plants, and biting pine. There’s a very cloying feel to this, and a sweetness as well. After a little while: The thick sweetness this had at the beginning has faded and this is now more of a fruity greenery and evergreen scent. There’s an almost fresh, clean quality to the green notes of this now, plus a light fruity feel. The pine blends in and balances well with the other remaining notes. Overall Impressions: I don’t know what it is about this scent, but it turns my stomach a little. I think it’s the way the notes in this clash. To my nose, everything in this blend doesn’t really go together; some of the scents seem to fight eachother and just don’t seem to be blending (mainly, the sweet flowery and fruity notes with the evergreen). This is a scent very fitting for the name though: overgrown, lush, and swampy. It’s not for me though.

    Amsterdam

In bottle/imp: Very crisp slightly aquatic florals. Immediately on skin: This is very well blended. I can smell pretty, soft flowers and they’re blended with an almost salty crisp aquatic note. In the background is the grass, which isn’t overly green but blends with the water to give this and even more “fresh” type of feel. After a little while: This fades into a very generic clean floral scent on my skin. The flower notes are pretty and lightly sweet with an airy feel to them. The watery note and grasses blend in just giving this a fresh, clean feel. This seems very nicely blended. Overall Impressions: This is a very feminine, clean floral blend. The notes go together beautifully in this and are almost seamless in the way they flow together. It’s not a loud scent by any means, but it is pretty and refreshing. It smells a bit like generic store brand shampoo on me, but if the floral notes came out more I’d imagine this could be gorgeous. I think those that like Dirty or the Unicorn may enjoy this one.

    Titus Andronicus

In bottle/imp: Dark, thick, smoky resin. Immediately on skin: Immediately I smell the musk, amber, frankincense, and sandalwood. This is a dark, smooth smoky resin scent with a lot of warm musk and sandalwood. The musk in this is very fragrant and warm… not nearly as dry as black musk is on me, so dark musk must be different. After a little while: The blend hasn’t changed much since I applied it. This is mainly a dark, warm musk scent with a slightly sweet resinous undertone. The amber, musk, and sandalwood create a very nice warmth in this and it’s not a dry scent at all. Overall Impressions: This to me seems like Hunter Moon 07’s more masculine brother. It’s warm, dark musk with a nice current of warmth running through it. The frankincense adds a touch of resinous goodness and the other notes add almost a bit of spice. This is a more unisex scent and I could imagine it smelling very nice on a guy.

    Titania

In bottle/imp: Fruit! Grapes and pear with the sweetness of sweet pea blending in. Immediately on skin: This blend is mostly fruit with a touch of sweet floral notes. The fruit is mostly fresh pear and white grape with the syrupy peach blending in. The flowers that blend in are the sweet pea and just a hint of the cool twisted note (moonflower is a note I can feel in my nose more than smell) of moonflower. This is very sweet. After a few minutes: Sweet… this is very very fruity and flowery and sweet. The fruit is the strongest though: the grape is syrupy and the pear adds a touch of freshness. The peach is all but gone now, but the sweet pea has risen to the occasion and taken over for all of the floral notes. Overall Impressions: This scent is very uplifting and bright, but also on the sweet side. I was hoping the notes would behave themselves and the rose, moonflower and snapdragon might have a chance of taming the other notes but nope, didn’t happen. I tend to amp grape I’ve learned, so this might be different on someone else’s chemistry. It was such a nice idea… I so wish it had worked.

In bottle/imp: Soft, fresh grass and light flowers. Immediately on skin: This is so light and lovely… it’s a grass and flowers scent mostly, but it’s soft with a nice freshness to it. Under that is a little fruitiness from the berries, but it’s not overly evident. The berries just blend into the grass and flowers lightly. This smells almost a little aquatic as well, which is probably the dew in the scent. After a little while: As this dries, it gets sweeter on me. The grass note fades a little and the flowers take center stage. It becomes a fresh and fruity soft floral scent with a lot of sweetness going on. The aquatic feel is still lingering, but it blends well with the flowers and is very light. Overall Impressions: This is a nice grassy, fruity floral, though the grass note doesn’t stick around for very long on my skin. It has a hint of aquatics that take a back seat to the other notes, but overall this is a very fresh, sweet floral blend.

    Robin Goodfellow

In bottle/imp: Dark musk, dark wood, and dry, fragrant herbs. Immediately on skin: The first thing that hits my nose is green stems… no one plant in particular, but the mixture of musk, moss, wood, and sage is creating something like the scent you get when breaking a thick green plant stem. It’s dark and herbal though, not fresh. There’s an interesting bit of dry notes in the background… very dark and dry black musk and wood. This scent has a touch of spice as well. After a little while: This is a bitter musk type of scent. I no longer get that green stem type of feeling; instead I get a dark herbal wood and musk scent. This scent smells slightly damp and bitter, with a very dark feel to it. Overall Impressions: This is a dark (non-pine) forest type of scent. It’s deep, wooded, and damp with hints of herbs and musk and dry woods. This is more of a unisex to masculine scent in my opinion, though the musk does add a hint of sweetness. This scent brings up tones of black, dirty green, and grey in my head… lots of shadowy forest floor types of colors. It’s evocative, but not for me.

In bottle/imp: Plastic-y vanilla with a background of light spice and floral notes. Immediately on skin: This is a very plastic scent on my skin, which is definitely the work of the vanilla orchid. Behind that plastic floral vanilla is a very fragrant, sweet, smoky floral that smells a little like jasmine but is sweeter. After a little while: This is just not very nice on me… it’s still mainly a plastic vanilla scent with a background of fragrant sweet flowers. I’d say this is more of a floral vanilla than foodie vanilla scent. Overall Impressions: Plastic vanilla… darnit. The same happened to me with Opuhi so I’m sure the vanilla orchid was the culprit. Underneath that plastic scent is pretty nice actually… soft, sweet floral notes that are slightly smoky but very fragrant.

    Queen Gertrude

In bottle/imp: Icy, cool violet. Immediately on skin: Whoa, violet. It’s sweet but has a nice cool feel to it from the wisteria and delphinium. The sweetness in this is amped up by the other floral notes, but not in a candy way. After a little while: This is now violet with a bit of chrysanthemum in the background. The cooler floral notes have disappeared, but the violet is still very sweet and vibrant. Overall Impressions: This is a violet scent mainly, though at first the wisteria and delphinium add a nice cool tone and later on the chrysanthemum takes over in the background. It is a sweeter violet scent, and a little powdery. Nice though, if you love violet.

    Oberon

Orchid, white musk, and bergamot wafting over juniper berries, with a gentle touch of soft, earthy patchouli. In bottle/imp: A mixture of bergamot and white musk with the orchid adding a nice depth. Immediately on skin: As soon as I put this on, the bergamot and white musk come out strongly. It’s slightly cologne-y and musky, but the orchid blends in and adds a nice floral sweetness to this. There’s a hint of the juniper berries under the other notes, but no patchouli. After a little while: This almost smells like a cooler version of Dark Delicacies on me, though it isn’t as complex. The main notes in this are still the mixture of orchid, white musk and bergamot, which smells like cool, musky, and has the nice sweet floral tones of the orchid. The juniper berries and patchouli don’t really come through much, though I can sense them. They add a nice background depth to this. Overall Impressions: This scent surprised me. I love the combo of orchid, bergamot, and white musk… it smells cool but sweet, and deep and musky. The patchouli and juniper berry aren’t very evident though I can feel them in this blend. I would say this could be unisex on the right guy, but I had my husband try it and he amped the orchid quite a bit. But this is a nice warmer weather scent and bottle worthy for me.
  23. Delirium1009

    Lysander

In bottle/imp: Resinous and woody. Immediately on skin: This is very different than I expected from the description. There’s a distinct resinous and almost caramel-like scent in this, which is probably the benzoin. Matched with that is a touch of lilac, woods, and citrus. After a little while: This deepens into a rich benzoin and tonka musk scent with hints of lilac musk, deep woods, and lime. The citrus is very light but it freshens up the blend a bit. This is definitely a more unisex blend and the floral notes really support this deep scent. Overall Impressions: This is a fabulous unisex scent. It’s deep, complex, and has hints of lighter notes to lift the scent a bit. My husband likes this one and I like it on him, but I don’t know if I’d personally wear it.
  24. Delirium1009

    Lady MacBeth

In bottle/imp: Sweet berries, wine, and herbs. Immediately on skin: This is a sweet wine, currant, and berry scent mostly, but there is a hint of thyme that keeps the scent a little toned down like the Fool’s Parsley in April Fool does with the huckleberry. It isn’t toned down too much though and is still very syrupy and rich smelling. After a little while: The hint of thyme really fades fast and leaves this scent rather sweet and tart. It’s still restrained a bit on the sweetness, but the wine/currant/berry blend is stronger now and creates a fruity wine scent. It’s more of a ruby red type of scent than deep dark red, if that makes any sense. Overall Impressions: Lady Macbeth is a perfect scent for people who want to smell like fruity wine. For me, it’s too sweet. I enjoyed the light thyme that was there at first but it faded pretty quickly. This is sweet and thick with a nice bit of tartness. Those who enjoy Bordello may like this, though this one is much more restrained.
  25. Delirium1009

    Katharina

In bottle/imp: Subtle apricot and cat litter. Not pleasant. Immediately on skin: This is a cool, musky apricot scent with a bit of a smooth finish. The musk is more of a base to the scent with the apricot being the main note. The orange blossom has a nice smooth sweetness to it in this. After a little while: The apricot in this settles nicely and blends with the other notes to create a cooler musky and smooth slightly fruity scent. It is very nicely blended and a seamless scent almost. It’s not overly sweet and has a subtle cool smooth feel to it. Overall Impressions: This is a very pretty cool, smooth apricot scent but nothing about it really grabs me. It is very subtle and wearable with a clean, fruity type of feel. This is an exquisitely blended scent though; the notes blend so well that you can’t tell where one stops and the other begins.
