    Anubis

In bottle/imp: Deep, dark resin and herbs. Immediately on skin: This is resinous, herbal, and green in a dark, stem-like way. It’s warm, but has a slight bitterness from the herbs. The resin smells almost burned and dark with a gentle wafting smokiness. After a little while: Grape or champaca? Where did those come from? I can’t tell which it is, but there’s something in this now that has a sweet, deep, purple feel to it. I find there’s a very similar note in Dia de los Muertos, actually. Otherwise, this blend is gorgeously blended with resins, incense smoke, and herbs. Overall Impressions: This blend has a very dark feel to it, but the sweet note that appears after a few minutes livens this up a little. The other notes are very dark and rich, but the sweet, almost fruity note I get gives this almost a purplish cast in my mind. This is a very deep blend, but sexy and feminine. It has something a little bitter though that is keeping me from wanting to wear this again.

    Aglaea

In bottle/imp: Peach with a background of powdery amber. Immediately on skin: This is fruity, musky peaches with a base of warm amber. It’s very golden and slightly tart with a hint of powder from some of the amber. There’s also a cool flowery note (the myrtle?) that wafts above the blend. Very pretty. After a little while: This turns into a thick, powdery and musky peach scent pretty quickly on me. It’s a warm, fruity scent, but the powdery note is rather cloying and makes my nose almost itch a little. Overall Impressions: This is a bright, fruity peach blend with nice amber and musk, but something in it seems to go wrong on my skin and turn this a bit cloying and powdery. I seem not to have much luck with the lab’s peach scents anyway, so maybe it’s that note. I can see this becoming a really gorgeous warm peach blend on the right person, but I’m sad it didn’t work on me.

    Y'ha-nthlei

In bottle/imp: Citrus and salt. Immediately on skin: This is clean and soapy. But salty too. It smells like a very sharp version of the scent of Irish Spring soap to me (my husband uses it so I know the smell well). It’s a very sharp, clean scent, and definitely effervescent in a foamy way. I can pick out the bergamot as a light citrus note, but everything else blends together completely. After a little while: The crisp feel of this dies down just a little, but this still has that soapy, clean feel. It’s very oceanesque, but is a lot more soapy than salty. Overall Impressions: This smells *exactly* like Irish Spring soap to me. It’s clean, slightly salty, and soapy. It’s an ocean scent, but moreso it’s an ocean-scented soap scent. This one’s very unisex, and even edging into masculine for me.

    R'lyeh

In bottle/imp: Very salty and almost fruity and green. Immediately on skin: This is another super salty, crisp water scent. It has a very charged ozone feel, but also a very round fruitiness to it that’s almost green. Bamboo maybe? This reminds me a bit of Boo Bam meets Moana from the Atomic Luau Lounge. After a little while: As this dries it gets a bit sweeter. The very crisp feel settles a bit, and this becomes a smooth almost fruity green scent with a bit of saltiness. The sweetness almost has a thick feel to it… like syrup or something, but it’s not resinous. Overall Impressions: This is a very smooth salty, oceany scent. It is a bit fruity and sweet, but retains a nice freshness. There’s almost something thick and spicy about the undertone of this, so it has a nice depth. I recommend this to people who like complex but crisp blends. This is definitely unisex, so men would be able to rock it too.

    The Music of Erich Zahn

In bottle/imp: Vetiver and musk with an underlying spice. Immediately on skin: This is damp, dark vetiver and musk with a little tamarind underneath. It’s bitter, dark, damp, and a touch spicy. Very odd. After a little while: This just doesn’t work for me. The vetiver and musk create something smoky but powdery, and the spiciness just lingers and smells almost savory in this. This is almost like smoked herbs and spices of some kind. Overall Impressions: This is odd. The vetiver, musk and spices create something smoky that I think smells more appropriate to be rubbed on a steak than applied to my skin. There’s also an odd powdery/rubbery note to this. Not something I would wear, and definitely not pleasant to my nose.

The High Priest Not To Be Described

In bottle/imp: Spicy, warm, musky incense. Immediately on skin: This smells a little… cloying on my skin. The scent is mainly incense, with thick blood musk and cinnamon (which smells more like cinnamon gum than the spice). The chamomile gives it an odd cool herbal tone. But mostly this is spicy incense with an underlying cool feel. After a little while: This really becomes a smooth, deep, incense type of scent. The blood musk and leather create this almost masculine earthiness, while I also get a nice subtly sweet spiciness that balances it out. This is a bit dry, but very smooth and smoky. Overall Impressions: This surprised me. I don’t know what I was expecting, but definitely not something so smooth. Mostly from this I get a mix of incense, blood musk, leather, and sweet spices (cinnamon, mostly). This is unisex for sure and I can’t wait to have my husband try it. It’s very deep, but warm and dry.

    Herbert West

In bottle/imp: Piney cologne. Immediately on skin: This smells like citrusy tea (like Embalming Fluid) plus men’s cologne with a heavy pine/ozone type of feel going on. This is very masculine and heavy. After a little while: The pine type of feel I got at first has certainly faded. Now this is more of a light cologne plus citrus tea type of scent. It’s very crisp and refreshing with a more masculine air to it. The initial heaviness has lightened a bit, but it’s still very cologne-like. Overall Impressions: This is a more masculine version of Embalming Fluid. It has the crisp citrus tea, but also a nice cologne note that blends in well. I like girlier scents, so this is a bit too masculine for me, but my husband would probably love this. This isn’t a very complex scent, but it seems very wearable and refreshing.

    The Deep Ones

In bottle/imp: Very salty and soapy. Immediately on skin: This smells salty, with lots of ozone and some citrus. It’s hard to break down into individual notes, but this smells salty, clean, citrusy (sharp though… either grapefruit or lime), and cold. After a little while: The citrus note I got in this at first quickly faded and left me with a cold, salty aquatic and ozone scent. The saltiness is almost that of seaweed, and this is a very deep, dark scent. Overall Impressions: This is perfect for the description. It’s dark, salty, and watery with a bit of ozone and a very cold, crisp feel. This is a unisex to masculine scent, and reminds me a lot of men’s cologne or soap.

    Al Azif

In bottle/imp: Very sweet spices, resins, and incense. Immediately on skin: This has a nutty, sweet smell on me… almost like maple syrup in the fact that it smells thick, warm, and slightly woody. Yes, that’s how I’d describe it: woody, nutty, and syrupy sweet, plus some drier incense notes. After a little while: The woodiness of this fades and it becomes a nutty, resinous syrupy scent with hints of light, dry spices. This seems to have gotten rather light and faded quite quickly though. Overall Impressions: This is a very surprising blend; it’s very sweet, thick, and rich and doesn’t really smell all that evil. It’s almost foody, but there’s enough incense and resin to keep it from crossing that line. This is a rich scent, and sweet, but I would probably classify it as unisex. Definitely interesting though.

    Wolfsbane

In bottle/imp: Vetiver and dry resins. Immediately on skin: This is strong on the vetiver, and is very dark and smoky. There’s a hint of strong herbs or light pine behind it… this is bitter, dry, and smoky. After a little while: This doesn’t really change much on my skin… it’s still all vetiver and dried herbs. Overall Impressions: This one was kind of boring on me. The vetiver starts out strong and fades a little, but still is the main note of the blend. Behind that are some dried herbs, and possibly a little woodiness. This isn’t something I would wear at all, but it has a nice dry vetiver scent if you like that sort of thing.

    Voodoo Lily

In bottle/imp: Spicy, peppery, fruity lily. Immediately on skin: This is a peppery, sweet lily scent. At first sniff, the peppery kick in this reminds me of pink pepper though this note is a bit more soapy. In the background wafts a syrupy sweetness that’s almost like cola. The lily note hovers gently in this… it’s not your average lily, that’s for sure. After a little while: This tones down… a LOT. It’s sweet, thick lily with a slightly fruity and spicy kick. The floral note is a lot more evident now, and really takes over the blend (as opposed to the spiciness that took charge at first). Overall Impressions: The initial spiciness of this really intrigued me, but it settled down into something a bit more traditional. This might be interesting in a scent locket, though hopefully others have better luck of their skin not eating that delightful spiciness.
  12. Delirium1009

    Strangler Fig

In bottle/imp: Oily green figs. Immediately on skin: This smells like fig, but it’s not smooth and sweet like I normally get from this note. Instead it’s green and woody, and very lush. Almost like a scent cross between bamboo and fig with a touch of woodiness (though this isn’t fruity like bamboo is). This scent also smells very thick to me. After a little while: As this settles, it becomes this rich and slightly green fig scent with a light woodiness. The scent is very pungent and strong, with an almost prickly quality to the green and woodiness of the blend. Overall Impressions: I enjoy this blend, though I don’t think I would wear it. It’s fig, but with a lot of thick greenness to it and hints of wood added. I would classify this as unisex, especially since it lacks a sweeter tone. This is earthier than it is fruity.

    Shadow Witch Orchid

Orchid tubers have been used extensively by witches in their love philtres, both to promote amorous attention and the attainment of true love, and, conversely, to wither misplaced passions and sever romantic bonds. This perfume is a dusky orchid, subdued and ethereal. In bottle/imp: Purple, sweet powdery orchid. Immediately on skin: This is pure orchid, through and through. It smells very purple to me, and very sweet. It’s a very thick, feminine floral scent. After a little while: This just gets thicker and stronger as I wear it. It’s a flowery, pure orchid scent… almost single-note in its directness. It’s cool and sweet with a tropical, juicy feel. Overall Impression: In complex blends, I love orchid notes. But in this, I get something cloying to it, and it’s just too much for me. I can still appreciate this scent though, and I can say that orchid lovers will adore this. It’s sweet and floral with a tropical, almost fruity tone. It’s very wearable, though will stand out from traditional floral perfumes. This one will turn heads for sure.

    Opium Poppy

In bottle/imp: Soft, sweet, and slightly bitter. Immediately on skin: This is a soft, sweet opium floral scent. It’s got a floral feel to it, then the opium scent hits which isn’t overly smoky at all. This is slightly medicinal, but that’s the scent of the opium. After a little while: The slightly bitter narcotic scent of the opium faded a little and the floral feel of this has gotten stronger. This is a slightly sweet, flowery opium scent now. This scent is very well balanced between the smell of the flower and the smell of the opium. Overall Impressions: This is very pretty, and slightly narcotic smelling. It’s intoxicating! When I smell this, it really does bring to mind this particular flower, though I’ve never smelled it in real life. It’s a womanly, bright opium scent.

    Love-Lies-Bleeding

In bottle/imp: Very smooth, musky cherries. Immediately on skin: This is a very faint, almost powdery scent. At first I smell a bit of cherries, then that fades into more of a dragon’s blood scent. There’s something very smooth and almost plastic about this. After a little while: This deepens a bit but still stays that powdery or plastic dragon’s blood/cherry scent. This smells bitter to me, but floral. Overall Impressions: This scent is odd to me… almost fruity and musky and flowery at the same time, but hard to pin down. My husband sniffed it on me and the first thing he said was “chocolate” like most of the other reviews, so my nose must just not want to identify it for whatever reason.
  16. Delirium1009

    Hemlock

In bottle/imp: Dark, bitter green herbs. Immediately on skin: This is pine (maybe cypress?) and herbs, all in one thick, bitter scent. This is so green and lush, but in an overgrown pine forest with thick herbal carpet on the forest floor sort of way. After a little while: The sharpness of this goes away a little, but it’s still overwhelmingly a pine and green herbal scent. Overall Impressions: This blend is much like I expected from the description. It’s dark, green, and bitter with a lot of pine and herbs going on. It’s definitely unisex, and has an underlying smooth feel.

    Destroying Angel

In bottle/imp: Ozone and dirt. Immediately on skin: This is very clean and green smelling on me, with an undertone of light dirt. There’s a sharpness to this that I don’t like, plus a very biting white floral note. After a little while: This is an odd scent. It’s like light dirt mixed with lemony white flower petals. It’s strangely dry but biting and almost clean smelling. This smells earthy, but not gritty. Overall Impressions: This blend is unusual… it’s dry, dirt-like, and very clean at the same time. The soil note is very smooth and blends oddly well with the “papery white note” that smells a bit ozone-y or citrusy to me. It’s almost like dryer sheets buried in the dirt or something. I think the dirt note is like the one in Nosferatu, but they’re not similar in any other way.

    Death Cap

In bottle/imp: A very cool earthiness. Immediately on skin: This isn’t nearly as dirty as I was expecting. It’s an airy yet earthy scent, and I can almost smell something very similar to a touch of coconut. It’s not really sweet, but it’s lightly musky and warm. It’s a little powdery on my skin, but not in a bad way. After a few minutes: This blend has turned very clean on me... like if you mixed up clean fabric with dirt and then added some coconut shavings. It's definitely a dirt scent, but it has a sweet crisp feeling to it too, and a touch of coconut musk. It's very unique. Overall Impressions: This scent is very interesting… it manages to smell like dirt, but it’s a clean dirt scent. It has a touch of coconut, so if you don’t like that note, you may want to avoid this scent. It’s slightly sweet and earthy with a clean feel and a light touch of coconut and musk. If you like warm, earthy scents on the lighter side, try this out for sure.

    Cobra Lily

In bottle/imp: Sweet, thick and almost fruity lily. Immediately on skin: This is lily, but it’s not soft and light. This is big, thick, juicy lily with dewy, gigantic petals. This is gorgeously blended into almost a single note, but this is definitely made up of different things. I almost want to say it’s lily, light gardenia (or red musk… sometimes they smell similarly sweet and juicy on me), and white tea, but I don’t know for sure of course. That’s just what it smells like to me. After a little while: This wafts beautifully… it’s now a juicy, red lily scent with a hint of spice. It smells like a real flower, but just the blossom and no stem, leaves, etc. It has a fruitiness, but also something slightly spicy and musky. Overall Impressions: This is a very surprising blend. It smells like lily, but a sinister lily. It’s fruity and slightly spicy, but still very wearable. The blending on this is wonderful; it’s almost like a seamless, single note scent, though there’s a lot of depth to it. If you like sweeter, almost fruity florals, and even usually dislike lily, this is one to try.
  20. Delirium1009

    Blood Rose

In bottle/imp: Very sweet, red rose and wine. Immediately on skin: This is a very syrupy rose scent, like Rose Red… though not as bitter on me because the wine in this really sweetens up the blend. There’s a slight sourness from the wine though which I don’t really like. The dragon’s blood adds some complex floral tones to this and mixes nicely with the other notes. After a little while: The dragon’s blood fades and this becomes a very juicy, sweet rose and red wine scent. It’s almost fruity it’s so sweet, with just a touch of the light lilac scent I sometimes get from dragon’s blood. The rose is very fresh and dewy, and the wine is dark red, thick, and sweet. Overall Impressions: This scent is rose, but sweetened and thickened with dark red wine. It’s a fresher, girly rose scent… very light when I expected it to be heavy. It is on the sweeter side, but the floral tones of the rose balance it out nicely.
  21. Delirium1009

    Blood Lotus

In bottle/imp: Lotus blossom and cherry. Immediately on skin: This is lotus, but not the super sweet, cheerful scent. This is darker, with a touch of what smells like black cherry. It’s slightly smoky and the scent color is definitely deep velvet red. The sweetness is restrained and not too strong like normal lotus blends are on me. After a few minutes: The lotus is still the main note (of course) and it’s still a fruity, but more subtle version of the flower. It’s a tiny bit more of a traditional floral blend than I get from lotus, so it might have some subtler flowers blended in. Overall Impressions: This is a lotus-dominated scent, but not in the bubblegum-ish way you may be used to. This is a deeper version, with hints of dark fruit and a smoother feel. If you’ve been looking for a wearable lotus blend that’s more wearable, try this one for sure.
  22. Delirium1009

    Black Rose

In bottle/imp: Dark, resinous, warm rose. Immediately on skin: This smells of roses, but it’s overpowered by something almost green; very crisp, but dry. The musk is evident. After a few minutes: This rose is very crisp and powdery, with the dry feel of musk under it. The amber isn’t showing through as much as I would have hoped, but it’s not a plain old rose blend for sure. Overall Impressions: This rose blend is very surprising… it’s very refreshing and not overly cloying at all. The musk adds a chill to it, and a dark feel. It has some depth and isn’t “just rose.” If you enjoy bpal’s rose blends and want something a little different, try this one.
  23. Delirium1009

    Black Lotus

In bottle/imp: Thick, deep lotus. Immediately on skin: This scent is very dark. Lotus usually has this overly sweet twisted fruitiness to it on me, but this one has a deep, syrupy sweetness instead. It has that slightly “twisted” feel to my nose that regular lotus does, but it’s much more toned down here. Then there’s the other notes: the amber and sandalwood give this a nice warmth, while the myrrh adds a resinous, smooth tone. After a little while: This gets almost tart on my skin as I wear it, though it still feels much darker than regular lotus. The sandalwood has gotten stronger and the amber has become very subtle, but still adds a nice warmth. The myrrh has faded to a slightly resinous background note. Overall Impressions: This scent is so dark and deep… nothing like regular lotus. This is slighty fruity, but resinous and warm at the same time. This is still a sweeter blend though and very floral.
  24. Delirium1009

    Black Hellebore

In bottle/imp: Wet, green, earthy floral. Immediately on skin: This is a watery, dark, green herbal and flowery scent. It has that hollowness of rose, and soft touches of something airy and sweet. The herbal tone smells rather fresh. After a little while: As this dries, the blend really melds nicely. This is subtly sweet and floral with a cool feel and a fresh, herbal background. Overall Impressions: This is a very nicely blended scent. It’s dark, but more soft and dark green than sinister. It smells watery and cool, with hints of darker earthy notes and more airy, flowery tones. It’s pretty, but not traditionally floral.
  25. Delirium1009

    Belladonna

In bottle/imp: Very herbal and dry with a medicinal undertone. Immediately on skin: This smells on my skin much as it smelled in the imp: Super herbal with a strong medicinal undertone. However, it is a bit fainter on my skin. After a little while: This gets a hint of floral sweetness that floats above the sharp herbal note I got at first. There’s also a bit of woodiness to this now, but most of the blend is bitter and herbal. Overall Impressions: This isn’t a pleasant scent to me. It’s very herbal and sharp and medicinal, especially at first. As it develops it gets a bit more complex and a gentle flowery note joins the blend, but it’s not something I would wear.
