Gourmand - Foody Scents - General Recommendations
sihaya09 replied to Morrighana's topic in Recommendations
I love Chimera as a complex gourmand scent. Also, some might think I'm crazy, but I swear Samhain & Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo share a note or two. -
Thanks, Becky!

This is a rather general Paypal question, but since I don't know wether or not to start a new thread, I'll ask it here. I know you can pay BPAL with a paypal balance. However, say I wanted to make an Aromaleigh purchase-- nowhere on the site do I see a pay with paypal option. Is there any way to transfer paypal balance onto one's credit/debit card so I can use it for non-Paypal vendors?

Warm, foody, exotic. I definitely understand the comparisons to Snake Oil. On me, though, this is actually lighter, sweeter, and more vanilla. It's got the same base of warm spices, but they lie beneath an almost "Vanilla Fields" heart of sweetness. It's a very nice, happy scent, and one I will wear often to work because though I love Snake Oil, my co-workers think it smells like talcum powder (smokers with broken noses, you see). This is very nice, and I'd like to keep an imp onhand at all times. Whoa, though. My skin drinks this up. It vanished quickly.

Peppermint Patty candies. Or rather, some boozy, alcoholic shot made with peppermint and chocolate liqueurs, with maybe the faintest spice of cinnamon on the drydown. I absolutely love this stuff, and I can testify that it does work. I wore it to work and vocal juries on a day when I had three hours' sleep and I was PMSing, and it got me through the day with minimal damage. It kept me perked up all day long because honestly, this stuff lasts. Thanks to Pekeana for the tester of it, which made me want more.

Roses. Lots of bright, pink, daytime roses with the sweetest breath of sweet pea. This is like sweet poetry that rhymes written in magenta ink and big, swooping letters. It's a bit too floral for me, but it is pretty in an innocent, girlie way.

For the life of me, I cannot pick out individual notes here. This is a blindingly white scent, sharp with slight hints of spring yellows and greens. It smells like rain and ozone tinged with uncanny, unrecognizable sharp hints, like grass or maybe twisted verbena. This is more what I expected Unseelie to smell like. It is a soft scent that is sharp at the same time. The scent stays very close to the skin but is truly interesting. It fades quickly, though, like a quick summer storm while the sun is still shining. I like this one enough to buy a bottle, so on my list it goes.

Maple syrup or brown sugar, but not as dark. I completely expected this to be sickly, my least favorite of the Halloween LE's. Boy, was I wrong. This is lovely, and has a gorgeous bright candied sparkle to it. It's a pick-me-up scent, and I'm truly marvelling at it's uniqueness.

Gosh, I love BPAL's fruit scents. This is less sparkling than other fruit-based scents I've tried (Titania, for instance), but it's still nice. The dominant note is apricot, and true to the fruit, the oil even smells a little fuzzy-muted, like the apricot was dipped in a little cream. It's not at all a synthetic, sickly-sweet scent, but instead the scent of thick, juicy apricot nectar. The plum comes through underneath, and some of the smoothness of the orchid. I get no rose and just a little of the musk. Overall, it's a nice, close-to-the-skin muted floral.

Lemonhead candies! This is crisp, crisp lemon that only slightly borders on Pledge-clean. I don't get a whole lot of floral from this, but there is somewhat of a green overtone that adds a nice warmth to it. This is a very summery scent, but one that I'd wear year-round becauseit just makes me happy. It's almost a giddy, childlike scent, and I really enjoy it.

Oh my. This is really, really nice. It's the foody side of Autumn, very creamy and lovely. It smells like pumpkin cheesecake in the vial, rich and smooth without being overly buttery. It even has a bit of a boozy note to it. On, it's very spicy over the creamy base-- I smell cinnamon and other pumpkin pie spices. Cardamom and ginger, maybe. Wow. Thanks so much to Belladonnastrap for the decanted imp. This one will be treasured.

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...

Oooh, thanks. I'll add an imp of that to my next order! -
Ohhhh. I have found my "curl up with a book and a mug of hot chocolate as it begins to flurry outside" scent. I'm picturing an overcast sky heavy with snowclouds, the hush that falls over the street right as the flurries begin to descend. This is indescribably wonderful. It is a white scent, very buttery and smooth. I find it strange that I can't pick out any individual notes. It's not floral on me at all, and although I did smell the plastic at first, I tried it again after my cycle was done, and they plastic-y note vanished. This smells like ice cream made with fresh snow and buttercream. It is both warm and delightfully frosty at the same time. I'm in love with this amazing scent, so sad that I only got one bottle. Lucky for me, one application seems to last forever-- for as light as it is, this scent sticks around.

I am so so so sad-- especially since I started hearing the comparisons to Blue Moon, my favorite LE of all time. This is the first LE that didn't work on me. I do smell the Blue Moon comparisons-- the lotus is gorgeous. Aesthetically, this is a beautiful scent. It really is a chill, moonlit night in a bottle-- wonderfully evocative. But on my skin, the mints take over completely. You see, if I smell mint for a prolonged period, I get nauseous because I associate it with medicinal things and sickness. This was no different-- after about an hour, I had to wash it off because I began to feel sick. I decanted imps for people who missed out, keeping only a half-imp for myself... for sniffing, not wearing. I wanted so much to love this because it does remind me of something from memory, but I just can't wear it. Here's to hoping Cold Moon will be better for me.

I got lavender and sweet tea rose, with a little bit of greenness, too, like the stem of the rose. I can't really say any more than that, because about five minutes later, I was out like a light! This stuff is absolutely amazing, and it's going on my bottle list.

This, to me, was Aureus Light. The cedar took over once more and didn't leave enough incense behind on my skin to make this at all like a church to me. My boss described it as "someone's dusty closet." Although I sent it down to Pekeana for Yule, if I am gifted with another imp, I will try it as a room scent. It occurs to me that maybe it's just my skin chemistry twisting all of these cedar scents.

Very masculine. Sharp to the point of acridity, and though I like some cedar, BPAL's tends to take over the rest of the scent. One sniff, and I knew that this was just not for me. I could never see myself wearing this, so I sent this one along to Pekeana, who could better appreciate it.

In the vial, the jasmine is very strong, and I got the sense of a hazy periwinkle color interspersed by the pale yellow floral. However, on me, this was almost all jasmine with a touch of honeysuckle. A gorgeous bouquet, but one that was a bit too strong and heavy for me to wear all day. I'm not a full-power floral gal, and so I wouldn't wear this often. However, it does have an otherworldly quality about it, and it is aesthetically beautiful. And it's a strong oil-- a little will last all day.

A 5ml of this will be in my next order. In the vial, it's a crisp, juicy green apple. But on my skin, it turns to a caramel apple, sweet and smooth without being overly sugary. This scent is truly, truly divine. My only complaint is that it fades too quickly, and for that I need more to slather. Lovely.

Oooh. This is lovely. It's an amazing, complex, smoky cranberry blend. Kind of like a nighttime Titania with cranberry instead of pear and grape, which is why they layer so well-- one blend enhances the other. It is very soft, hushed, intensely wearable. I would get closer to someone if they were wearing this scent. I will always want to keep some of this on hand.

n the vial, this smelled very similar to Spellbound. However, on my skin, it is actually much lighter. Still a dusty rose scent, it has a bit more sweetness to it, with the earthiness of the patchouli gradually giving way to the sandalwood in the drydown phase. Very nice-- a floral I can wear in the daytime.

Spellbound is a gorgeous evening scent, really a bit hypnotic. There's something very feminine and sensual about its depth and dark undertones. It's a rich rose blend, almost purple and punctuated by the sharp tinge of the red musk. I'm not a big floral girl myself, but I would certainly wear Spellbound again. I have a feeling that I'll always want to have an imp or so on hand of this for seductive occasions.

I definitely smell the lemongrass and lavender with a slight green edge-- almost a hint of ozone. It's not necessarily a sleepy scent to me, but it is a very pleasant one, and a comforting one. I wore it twice in a row to bed and noticed that I had restless dreams, but I had a hard time holding on to them. It's definitely made me more interested to try the rest of the dream oils. However, I did have the problem where I coughed a lot when I wore this-- as sometimes lavender worn too potently can do to me. I'm going to try it out as a room scent or maybe use it in a dream pillow. It's such a lovely scent-- it'd be a shame if I couldn't wear it.

I wasn't really sure exactly where to ask, so here seems to be the best place. How many people have ever written checks out to the lab? Do they send emails when they receive the check, just to let you know that they got it? Or do they just cash it when they are ready to begin working on it? I am asking because I wrote and sent a check on Nov. 4th for my second Yule LE order, and haven't heard anything since. Should I be concerned and email just to make sure it's received, or should I wait a few more weeks? Thanks!

This blend is a sophisticated fruit blend. It's all pinky-purple plum and berry, very sweet and juicy. I didn't think that this was a particularly dark scent, as it is so smooth and velvety, but it definitely has layers. I smell a nice base of interesting spices, but none of the florals or incense notes. Just as well, I love how this one works with my skin chemistry-- it lasts quite a while. Lovely.
