It starts out super minty and cold. After drydown, it morphs into something just sweet. The mint is gone and I think I am left with vanilla sugar. It's not a bad thing but not what I hoped for. I do have the other Lick It offerings from past years- will have to see what those do.

I laughed out loud at ravenclaw79's review. And while I have to agree that this Certain Slant of Light does smell like a lot of other scents I've tried, I don't get generic florals. I don't get violet. My nose picks up sandalwood and frankincense. That's not a bad thing. It is warm and cozy. But it is definitely NOT unique.

No earthly idea what I am smelling here... I only know that I want to sneeze something awful. I think I am getting soapy floral. It is so soapy, I should be looking for bubbles. ETA: Drydown has been accomplished. Super Sudsy Mr. Bubble is gone. In his place is something very herbal and woody. I am picking up more rosemary than thyme. This is nice but not something I see myself wearing.

Normally, I don't like licorice. Not to eat. Not to smell. Not to drink. This, however, is sweet and fuzzy. It reminds me of spice cookies.

I don't know about this one. In the imp, it smelled like Chocolate Heaven. Warm, gooey and sweet. It stayed like that for a few minutes after application. But now it smells like fake chocolate scent... like something in a candle or non-food item trying to replicate a chocolate scent. Not terribly yuck-worthy, but I don't know that I want to smell like something trying to pass as chocolate and not quite making it.

On application, I get the cola syrup that others smell, but it quickly turns very incensuous (new word). It reminds me of Midnight Mass because of the incense at the forefront. It is beautiful and very regal. Unfortunately, it is gone in a few hours. Foo for that.

Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues

Yummy!! This is a very bright and clean fragrance. Very effervescent and citrusy. I like it a lot. -
Mmmmm... citrus and lavender. This is so pretty.

Snow Bunny 2008 This was THE perfect scent on application. It was crisp and cold but very feminine. Unfortunately, it dried and when that moment occurred, this lovely little scent turned into the Killer Bunny from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Srsly. It was SO cloying that it went for my throat and refused to allow me to breathe. I had such high hopes for Snow Bunny, but all I can say about it is RUN AWAY!! RUN AWAY!! Edited to correct tense...

CCCXXXIV (334) Oh, wow! It's grapefruit!... sprinkled with sugar. I absolutely LOVE the sweet tang this scent gives off. Previously reviewed by Aerinha.

Very nice photos- I assume that there isn't a lot of natural light this time of year? And where exactly were you? Town name? And don't say "North Pole."
-
Snow White 2008 is very fresh, clean and delicate on application. When it dries, there is something a bit foody that steps forward. However, it remains a sparkling and clean scent.

I see that Belle Vinu is strong on some folks. Do I ever wish that were true for me. It is lovely. A true peach, with sandalwood and vanilla. I don't get the screaming floral that some did. The problem for me is that in 5 hours, it is gone. Finito. Vamoosed. But it was sure purty while it was here.

Every now and then you let a scent slide and then regret not stockpiling. On Darkness is one of my regrets. This scent is bold and beautiful. It goes on sweet and dries spicy. There is a hint of fruitiness in the background. I love On Darkness. Want more. Lots more.

Jacob's Ladder 2008 This is such a lovely scent. My beloved amber is the main note that I detect. The overall scent is sweet and resin-y but not cloying or overpowering. It goes a bit powdery after it dries but it is still lovely.

Visiting the Temple of Auspicious Fortune Alone on the Winter Solstice
voodoocatwoman replied to femmefatale's topic in Yules
In the imp, this is all incense. However, when it dries down, the rain and dust come forward. I wouldn't think that I would like it, but it is rather nice. -
CCCLVI (356) I detect a citrus note. Is it lime? There's also a bit of spice and maybe some vanilla. It is very bright.

A little definitely goes a long way. This is a very forceful scent, quite powerful. It is almost a bit overwhelming. I smell the myrrh, clove and nutmeg... and a bit of musk to hold it all together. The end result is so strong that I can taste it as well as smell it. Wow.
-
GORGEOUS!!!!! The good Frau starts out very piney... and that pine note reminds me of cola syrup for some reason. When she dries down, a musky floral emerges that is quite lovely. This is going to be a favorite. What a shame I didn't spring for a bottle when it was available.

I am not much of a rum person and definitely not a butter fan. But this scent so perfectly captures the essence of butter rum cookies, fresh from the oven. It stays true and does not stray not one iota. Not bad for those who love boozy Christmas cookies.
-
In the imp, this is mostly musky floral. It's definitely cold. Wet, a pine note leaps forward. After it dries, the pine takes one step back while the musk and florals dance together. The end result is breathtakingly cold and beautiful.

Rose Red 2008 model is a lovely fresh dewy winter rose. Not the swoon-worthy sweet rose of Queen's Croquet Ground, but more of a fragrant dusky rose scent. Unfortunately, it has vamoosed within 30 minutes. If it is still here, I can not smell it at all. And that is such a shame.

CCCXXIII (323) Again Aerinha reviewed it before me and again I got something different. While I do agree with the green pulpiness of the scent, I picked up something foody as well. It turned spicy after it dried. 12 hours later, it is still potent... but what I can smell now is something sharp and strident (what I've always referred to in other colognes as bug spray). I do NOT like it.
-
I did not think I would like this because it was nothing but cedar when I first put it on. However, once it dried down, the dreaded hamster cage smell abated, the musk, amber and sandalwood took over and turned it into a warm and sultry scent. Disaster averted.
-
What an evocative scent. Just the tiniest dab on the wrists takes me back to St. Louis Cathedral and the early '70's midnight mass I attended with a friend. Do I detect sandalwood? Someone mentioned cedar and I think I pick up a tiny bit of that as well. Normally, cedar and I are not friends (HAMSTER CAGE!!) but it's not obnoxious in this blend. This is beautiful.
