Scents for late summer into autumn

As I only got into BPAL in June, and it was winter here in Australia, I haven't had a summer-to-autumn season with BPAL yet, but I think Red Moon 2007 and Litha would be beautiful for that time of year

    Aureus

Unfortunately, this scent did not work on me at all When I first put it on, it smelt very strongly like pine-o-tar, which wasn't too appealing to me at all. After an hour or so the pine smell had faded, and the scent left on me was very minty, which remained for most of the day. It wasn't unpleasant, but it just didn't suit me at all, and I'm not very partial to really strong minty scents, so sadly, I have to say that this is the first Bpal scent that completely didn't work on me

My first order from the Lab

I made my first order from the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab at the end of June, after weeks of pouring through the descriptions, and trying to narrow down my choices. I had actually heard about BPAL a few years ago, from a few livejournal friends, but the range of scents slightly overwhelmed me, and I just didn't know where to start. But I finally decided to bite the bullet, and dive in - and I'm so glad I did! Imagine - I could have been addicted to this stuff years ago! Well, my credit card is glad I wasn't anyway. The first order I made was naturally, all imps. Future posts will have some reviews or thoughts about some of the oils, but for the time being, just a list. Ophelia: Wistful and vulnerable: lotus, water blossom ivy, stargazer lily and white rose Juliet: Sweet pea with stargazer lily, calla lily, heliotrope, honeysuckle, white musk and a touch of fresh pear Helena: Rose amber, calla lily, night-blooming jasmine, water lily, and white rose Pontarlier: The legendary birthplace of the Green Fairy. Swiss ferns, lilac, blackcurrant, Gallic rose and lavender with a dollop of sugar and absinthe Alice: Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot Eat Me: Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants Mouse's Long and Sad Tale: Vanilla, two ambers, sweet pea and white sandalwood The Queen of Hearts: Lily of the Valley, Calla Lily, stephanotis and a drop of cherry Tiger Lily: A feisty bouquet of golden, warm, gently honeyed lilies Two, Five and Seven: A huge bouquet of squished rose petals: Bulgarian rose, Somalian rose, Turkish rose, Damascus rose, red and white rose, tea rose, wine rose, shrub roses, rose, rose, rose… …and just an itty bitty bit of green grass The Unicorn: A misty, almost luminous perfume: wispy linden blossoms, white flowers, and a touch of sweet herbs Moon rose: A crisp, pale, almost translucent rose dusted by moonflower and midnight dew Dragon's Milk: A truly fae nectar! Dragon's blood resin and honeyed vanilla Magdalene: A stirring yet gentle perfume. The scent of love and devotion mingled with an undercurrent of heart-rending sorrow. A bouquet of white roses, labdanum, and wild orchid Brisingamen: A glittering mantle of rich golden notes: five ambers, soft myrtle and apple blossom, myrtle, and carnation Endymion: A sweet, wistful blend of d'Anjou pear, Lily of the Valley, bois du rose and white musk The Lady of Shallott: The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger Eve: The spirit of temptation, the essence of lost innocence. Apple blossom, rose, ylang ylang and golden honey Iambe: Her scent is one of comfort, beauty and joy: Sudanese amber, patchouli, rose, gardenia, gladiola and white tea Kali: This perfume is a blend of the sacred blooms of cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey Kurukulla: The Tibetan goddess of love and wealth. BPAL blog

I decided to take advantage of the fact we can have blogs on here, and use this for my BPAL related ramblings; after all, who best can understand my quickly-growing addiction, than a whole community dedicated to this amazing range of oils! I have been making orders like crazy, and I keep a little notebook with the descriptions of each oil I have, and my notes on whether I like it, what it reminds me of, seasons to wear them in, and whether I'll be reordering. I'm sure my boyfriend thinks I'm nuts... but at least he agrees I smell good! Hopefully I can use this blog to do a similar thing, and also read other people's thoughts (bpal or not!) Love xx

    Kurukulla

I loved this one - I found it to be very sweet, almost honeyish, even though there is no mention of honey in it. It didn't smell too floral on me, and it lasted for several hours (my partner could smell it on me after a full day of work). I absolutely loved it - I just ordered a full bottle of it in my last order

Thankyou for uploading those photos, the labels are amazingly gorgeous!

    Moon Rose

My first thoughts when I tried this on was "amazingly delicate", and that's how I think of it all the time now. I absolutely LOVED this one -- one of my very favourites for sure. It is subtle but it lasted for hours, and is very, very pretty. Flowery, but definitely not overpowering, and can be worn at any time (in any sort of weather). I found it very ethereal and delicate.

    White Rabbit

Slightly stronger and a little bit spicer/heavier than the scents I have tried so far, but it really suits my mood for the day -- racing around, doing a hundred things at once. I probably wouldn't wear it to work or on a day when I am just sitting in the one place for ages (eg when I'm studying), but it is perfect for a hectic day, in my opinion. The slightly heavy/musky undertones make me think of ginger or pepper in a hot milky tea.

    Two, Five & Seven

A huge bouquet of squished rose petals: Bulgarian rose, Somalian rose, Turkish rose, Damascus rose, red and white rose, tea rose, wine rose, shrub roses, rose, rose, rose... ...and just an itty bitty bit of green grass. I found this to be very sweet & almost sugary when I first put it on; it definitely had a sweet fruity scent about it on me. I liked it a lot, but it probably wasn't so great in the car, as it was kind of strong in the enclosed space. After a few hours it had calmed down though, and I liked it a lot more after awhile than I did at first -- it was more wearable, I felt. Nonetheless, that didn't stop me from smelling my wrist all day, to see how it was, and 10 hours later, I can still smell a trace of it on my skin. Yummy, but I probably won't buy a big bottle of it - I can imagine the sweetness getting to me after all as it was just a little bit too sugary.

    Nuit

Slightly musky, with a subtle floral undertone. I have been wearing it for about 30 minutes now, and I can't stop smelling my wrist (and my fingers, as the lid on the imp broke and I got a bit more on me than I would normally wear) - I really like this. I think it will be perfect for every day wear for me, as it's not too overbearing, but really pretty and sophisticated. Am definitely considering buying a bottle of this one!
