Temple of Dreams is good for sleep. I find anything with vanilla can be good for when i'm generally crappy. Shadwell and Dorian are particularly comforting/calming.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

    I get mostly cedar too.
  4. III (or maybe CIII) In Bottle: The number is a guess as the writing’s almost worn off. Husks. Dry husks. Dust. Grape? A hint of smoke. Maybe some fruit or dragon’s blood. This is alarming and confusing all at once. The Ashy husk notes are so strong it’s hard to guess the rest, really. I am leaning toward grape, which is not auspicious knowingmy skin. Wet: Ashes and grapes. It’s like someone burned a vineyard. Or ciggarettes and grape juice. Dry; whoa! That’s completely different. It’s a rich fruity insense blend, strong and sweet and succulent. It’s still very not me, but It’d be lovely on several women I know. I do thank that’s dragon’s blood and various red smelling fruit with… maybe amber? Anyway, it’s lovely, but too intrense and womanly for me.

    Baobhan Sith

In Bottle: This is light and sweet, exactly as one would imagine from the ingredients. The tea blends beautifully with the grapefruit and apple blossom. Wet: Very light and feminine. The grapefruit is stronger than the tea now, but the balance is still pleasing. It’s not me, but it’d be a good choice for a late teen girl in spring. Dry: mild floral.

    Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v3

In Bottle:  It’s smoky and burned… paper? Pumpkin? Leaves? Over incense. I know this note and it never goes well on my skin. It reminds me a little of shattered Pumpkin. Wet: Very smoky with the incense coming out better. Smells like rain and Indian temple. (Not “rain” scent, but actually rainy day with stone incense, and spices from India. Dry: Heartwrenchingly close to amazing. It’s simply too intense with my skin chemistry. This is sad as the rain on stone + incense is a very cool idea.

    Tisiphone

In bottle: patchouli is very strong in this one, I think because of it’s interaction with the neroli. Wet: The florals strengthen to coequal with the patchouli. This is very much a hippy chick blend. The Oleander is surprisingly strong.. Dry: It smells of head shop. Sooooo much patchouli.

    Othello

In bottle: Lots of cloying rose with a hint of something softer under. I’m not going to skin test as I know that this will just me insanely amped rose on my skin. I do get a faint spice edge, but really this is a rose blend. In bottle: Lots of cloying rose with a hint of something softer under. Arkham

In bottle: Very nice in an Appalachian garden sort of way. The woods scent mingles beautifully with the flower combination. The effect in nicely balanced. Wet: The bergamot and violet are dominant. Along with the cypress. It stays pretty well balanced, though the flowers are slightly stronger on my skin. Dry: Turns a little nasty on the skin. I’m not sure which element it is exactly that isn’t working with y skin chemistry, but it really isn’t working. It’s a shame as most of the survivors are the woods, which I like.

    Thirteen (13): March 2009

In bottle: chocolate covered cherries. Full disclosure, a friend who went to will call told me this was lovely spicey wood on her, so I got it even though I amp cherry and musks are not my friends. Your mileage will likely vary. Wet: cherry tootsiepop. Slowly, lots of comes out. OMG musk. Did I mention the musk? And the cherry. So much cherry. Dry: The bamboo finally says hi and is lovely. There is something else nice in there, but I have no way to tell if it’s moss or the lucky hand as neither species is familiar. Unfortunately the cherry tootsiepop/musk thing stays overwhelming, though not as badly as initially.

    Sri Lanka

In bottle: Oooo! Insensey. Wet: Rich green, woody insense. I’m liking this. The patchouli is understated. This is stunning. The sandalwood and ceder come out blending so well with the other incense. It’s very Asian incense store. This is a total winner.

    Old books... Books, paper, libraries

Short form: Dee is more men's cologne sexy with a lot of wood to it. Aziriphale is lighter, more androgynous Geeky sexy. Buggre is very like Aziraphale only with a much stronger incense note. For reference: AZIRAPHALE: (Company Says: Ethereal musk, blonde woods, and dusty Bible accord.) THE BUGGRE ALLE THIS BIBLE (Good Omens): (Company says: Crumbling paper and ancient cracked leather with a touch of tobacco leaf and incense.) DEE: (Company says: His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods.)
  13. I never realised how much Blace lace and O have in common until a very Black Lacey O came in my CT order. i bet something could be done with normal O and some layering.
  14. LXXXVIII In bottle: Strong herbal note. Ginseng maybe? Possibly some ginger. The snake oil is very fresh, which heightens the herbal effect. I can tell already this will need aging. Wet: Oh shit, I think that’s mint in there with the Chinese medicine scent. It also seems to have a lot of musk. Like, Smut level musk. Peppermint smut turns out to not be a bad combo objectively, but OMG on my skin? I am naturally musky, which means musk amps and I have trouble with mints. I still suspect that’s ginger dancing with the Snake Oil. Dry: Too much musk, something that smells like paper and ashes.
  15. XCIV In bottle: O is strongest. I think there is extra vanilla. Wet: Weirdly familiar, nag champa maybe? There is some sort of fruit and a real spiciness to it. The honey and vanilla come out beautifully. This is rich incense blend which goes gorgeously with the underlying O. It is sexy and exotic. It also reminds me strongly of Black Lace, though the incense is stronger and more complex. This is yummy. Dry: the incense and the vanilla/musk separate a bit, but it stays lovely throughout. A new favorite and an unalloyed hit.

L: In Bottle: The Dorian is… really smelling debauched. It’s a little like dorian is lolling about drunk on hard lemonade, trying to sober himself a little with cream tea. There is something wickedly herbal in there too, which I’m not identifying. Weirdly sharp. Wet: The tea really comes out. It’s mostly lemony tea, with herbs. It’s a little like Embalming fluid and Dorian got together to make sweet, sweet love. Dry: The musk and vanilla come out in time and do tasty things. I am now totally imagining Herbert West/Dorian scent slash. Rawr! Geek and dandy forbidden steampunk love. It definitely gets more cologne like in general with wear.

    Lysander

In bottle: Interesting. The lilac/myrtle/blackberry leaf combo is striking and walks the line between floral and herbal. The violet is not taking over the blend, for wich I’m grateful. Wet: The lime comes out, but blends nicely with the dark green and floral effect. This makes me thinkk of the edge of woods where the shade loving plants grow. Surprisingly androgynous for a floral. Dry: Mostly Violet, with a faint herbal edge and some myrtle.

    Whip

In bottle: Mostly rose. Wet: Mostly rose. Dry: Yep, still rose.

    Cobra Lily

In bottle: Lily with a green undertone. Wet: Almost a berry edge along with the lily. It is quite pleasant as florals go, rich and sweet. Dry: More berryish on the dry down and vaguely spicy.

    413 U.S. 15 / Miller Vs. California

In bottle: Rich cream over cognac mostly. The other elements soft, but present. Wet: The paper note really rises on the skin to mingle with the dominant cream and softer cognac. Given a few minutes, the leather eats the paper mostly, then starts going sweeter from the berry. Smells weirdly like the pharmacy where my mother shopped when I was a kid around Easter Time. I think it’s the cream and fruit mimicking some of the seasonal candy. Periodically the cognac and leather go head to head, which I love. Dry: Mmmmmmmmmm…. The cream/cognac/leather/fruit combo settles into something lovely once the elements finish ducking it out for dominance. Beautifully balanced.

    Darkness

In bottle: This is very strong, very womenly sexy. I am surprised there is no black musk. The narcissus is not entirely fortunate apong all that opium and myrrrh. T my nose it reads as impuirty and I must repeatedly remind myself that it’s narcissus, not unwashed hands. Dry: Gah! Apparently, my skin amps narcissus and the result, is smoky burning opium and well fertilized flowers. I am inclined to blame my skin for the inauspicious amping, so take this with a grain of salt. The thing separates into disparate parts on my skin and goes to war Dry:It is less combative on the dry down, morphing into an opium heavy floral that suits me not at all but would probably be quite sexy on someone else.

    Carnaval Diabolique

In bottle: Lots of lemon flowers and heliotrope. The coconut is next strongest. Wet: On me, mostly lemon and coconut. My skin amps citrus enormously and mildly amps coconut, so there’s no surprise here. Given time, rose, which I also amp joins them. I think I nose a touch of opium and musk in there, but honestly the lemon is so overwhelming with my skin chemistry, there is no chance of this balancing. Dry; The subsumed elements come out a little. The vanilla/heliotrope/apricot combo might have been interesting on it’s own, but is still rather burried under the amped lemon and coconut. Again, I suspect this would be fine on someone else, but my skin chemistry is causing serious imbalance of the elements.

    Banana Peel in a Graveyard

In bottle: whoa! Banana and dirt. Wet: Goes richer on the skin. The bana is slightly less realistic, but the dirt expands to add stone, moss, and oak. Here may be a little ivy to. As it warms on the skin, the banana backs down a little, becomning a lovely sweet note in what is otherwise a fascinating outdoors scent. I love the blending of the dirt, leaves, and wood. It’s vaguely spicy, though in a cedar kind of way. The banana grows more lovely and subtle as it wears. If one is worried about te banana note, it is gorgeous after the initial application. Dry: goes from dry ground, to vaguely wet ground. I love this like I love worm moon and I’m moving it onto the shoping list. This is the best non-Le dirt scent I’ve encountered.

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

May add Vicomte de Valmonte and suggest the more masculine jolly Roger in place of Chuthulu?

    Black Annis

In bottle: this is surprisingly nice. The anise fits beautifully with lichen and oak. Wet: The civet comes out. Alas, so does the vetiver, but not so strongly I can’t take it. Annis remains strongest, though the lichen/oak cave scent is present. Dry: anise seed and vetiver. No, just no.
