In the bottle, this is all bright floral and something kind of herbal and astringent--honestly does smell like some kind of voodoo. I don't get a straight jasmine from this and don't know what honeysuckle smells like, but something about this is slightly soapy and very green and herbal. I find the description to be quite accurate--this feels humid and dusty. After a few minutes, this clears up and it is herbal, green jasmine.

All foodie scents smell like butter to me. This one smells like browned, caramel-y butter, with a slightly dusty after smell.

    Viola

In the bottle, this is all amber and spicy myrrh with a hint of the sandalwoods. Wet, the roses come out to play, and then the white floral of the lilies. Dry, this is all headache-y white lilies with a soft amber background and a rose accent. I don't get much of the woods anymore. After a few minutes, this is a soft delicate floral blend of primarily lilies and then some rose. Pretty, not sure if I love it though.

    Megaera

In the bottle, this is soft amber and ripe fruit. On me, it's warm, amber-y plum. After a few minutes, another note comes out--the bergamont I think, but maybe the orris--slightly herbal and soapy. Fully dry, the soapiness goes away and I get a sweet, powdery plum over amber base. This reminds me of a warmer version of Black Pearl, alas not for me.

    Oblivion

Looking at the note list, I'm not really sure why I wanted to try this, but it's nicer than expected. In the bottle, this is musk and saffron spiced wood. The patchouli in this is one of the only blends I can tolerate from the lab--it lurks in the background adding a spiced depth to the scent without being overwhelming or the main note. Dry, this is musk with a sweet, sort of sticky-honey note and spiced wood component. Super interesting and kind of cool, but not my kind of scent. Not sure why so many sweet/foody scents turn "sticky" smelling on me. A nice masculine leaning blend.

In the bottle and wet, this is straight iris--bright, white floral, but very pretty. Dry, the sandalwood, myrrh and herbs come out to soften and balance the iris. Very pretty, but not outstanding for me. White floral iris and dry sandalwood.

    Lilith

In the bottle, something sticky sweet over a sweet musk background. Dry on me: still sticky sweet red wine, with a slightly spice-y, faintly floral background. Not for me.

Ugh. I love rose and jasmine, but more often than note jasmine does not love me back. In the bottle, this is a bright, white slightly green floral. On me, it is overhwhelming tuberose and jasmine--I smell like a bathroom air freshener. Overtime, the headiness fades and a slightly aquatic lemon-y note comes out alongside the floral and it becomes a delicate lemony-jasmine. Actually pretty, but not something that standouts to me.

    The Forest Reverie

A dry earthy smoke scent--really like an herbal headshop--with fruity grape accent notes. Not what I was expected, not my kind of scent. Fully dry, the smokiness fades to the background to become a warm faint incense-y note over sweet grapes. Still not for me.

In the bottle this is so pretty! A refreshing, pretty white floral from the orchid, daffodil and jasmine--the jasmine in this is perfectly balanced and not too overpowering, and there's a slight fruity hint from the plum note. I normally do not like white florals, something about them is too astringent and overpowering, but this is just wonderfully ethereal and light. On my skin, this remains pretty much the same as the bottle. The floral fades a little and the plum comes out until they're evenly balanced, but it's just a really lovely light, fruity floral.

    Aureus

In the bottle, this is incense-y, warm, but there is definitely a vetiver or vetiver-like component to this scent that was an immediate turn off for me. I expected something light and etherial, but this is a heavy, amber-y, incense-y type of scent. Dry is awful--vetiver? patchouli? Smoky and ughhgghghgh washing this off. So not what I expected.

    Bewitched

In the bottle, this is wet and green, but heavy almost amber-like from the musk. Dry on the skin, this is sweet berries--a very true berry scent, sweet and ripe but not foodie. The green notes are barely there for me, it's just sweet berries over a light musk background. Pretty but not outstanding for me. I cant get the sense out of my head that this scent is very similar to something else...it reminds me of lotion, maybe something I used to use? Final drydown is just a hint of sweetness on the wrist, slight musk background. Fades quick with little throw.

Oh gosh. I first smelled a prototype of this at the November Will Call and was soooooo bummed I would have to wait until December to order. I missed the December and January Will Calls and finally managed to pick up a bottle earlier this month (I was so sure I didn't even do a skin test!), after obsessively thinking about it for the past 3 months. This is my first new BPAL purchase in years and oh boy, is it worth it. In the bottle, this is primarily tart apple peel--different from the Lab's typical apple note, greener and...more tart--with a hint of rose, not getting any vanilla at all and maybe just a bit of mahongany wood (not sure what this smells like). As it dries, the apple is still the core of the scent, but the roses definitely come out more and it's lush and pretty and very green floral (compared to Poisoned Apple which is more...floral-floral in full bloom), with the mahongany poking out to warm and spice up the scent. After a few minutes, the notes have melded into this wonderful almost musk-y floral with a bright hint of apple at the end and a warm, mahogany base. One of my absolute favorites.

    Amaterasu v3

In the bottle, this is vanilla!! and an amber background, a slight incense note and a note I can't quite place--someone above mentions leather and it is very reminiscent of leather, and slightly smoky in the same say (as someone who usually detests leather and smoky notes). Dry, this is all creamy vanilla with a warm, golden amber halo and the slightest musky-smoky tailwind. Not sure how I feel about this--the smoky/incense notes atypical for me, but something about this scent keeps drawing me back. I could almost see it becoming my signature scent (oh please no because I will never find more after this...).

    Bat of Virtue

Wet, this is sweet strawberry spiced with frankincense. Something about it almost has a lemon-y tone to it. As it dries, the violet comes out, giving it a greener-tone.A sweet, green floral with a hint of rose.

    Lilith's Tea Party

In the bottle, this is overwhelmingly sweet foodie with a floral background. Dry, I get a strong, sweet tea note--black tea with lots of sugar--with a soft rosewater and strawberry background. Very pretty and grown up, but not for me.

    Jack

Wet, butter-y foodie-ness that all foodie scents seem to have. Deep sniff, going past that--bright juicy peach, with warm pumpkin spice. Pretty but foodie scents are not for me! Dry, it's warm and foodie, but the sharpness of the clove standsout over the warmth of the nutmeg and pumpkin.

    Dance of the Mirlitons

Wet, this is one of those blends with too much going on for me to pick out anything specific--it's sweet and floral-y. As it dries, I get a soft rose tempered by warm, dry sandalwood and rosewood. The marzipan dries sweet and slightly powdery in the background.

    Les Fleurs du Mal

Wet, this is a crystalline, yet slightly powdery floral. As it dries, the sharpness of the lily tones down and the rose comes out. This rose is soft and gentle--Belle Vinu's rose vs. The Rose's rose. A pretty light floral, but too much lily gives me a headache so this is not for me. It's primarily a bouquet of lilies with rose wrapped around and wisteria--very pretty--lurking in the background.

    Maenad

Wet, this is super sweet strawberry, almost plastic-y, like a strawberry scratch n' sniff or a child's toy--same note a Strawberry Moon and Bat of Virtue. In the background, there is a pretty, sweet tropical floral, almost fruity--the orange blossom and the hibiscus. Normally, a scent like this would be overwhelming, but this is just perfectly sweet floral-y fruit. As it dries, the carnation comes out an adds a spicy note. Pretty, but not for me.

    Thanatos

Wet/in the bottle this is very herbal and medicinal, kind of soothing--assuming this is the moss and myrrh resins. Dry, this becomes warm, woody resin spiced with incense. I don't get a strong rose from this at all. Really interesting and pretty, but not my type of scent.
  22. Veronica

    Belle Vinu

Wet, this smells green but sweet--a budding floral. I can detect the rosewood as a background note--a warmer, more soft sandalwood. Dry, this is a very lovely rose scent--soft and floral, not at all dominant or overwhelming (very different from Peacock Queen, The Rose). I don't get a strong vanilla, a touch of peach but this is not a fruity scent on me. I really like this and may consider a bottle.

    Tamora

Wet, this is warm amber and vanilla bean (some how slightly foodier than just vanilla) with a touch of driness from the sandalwood. I think it must be the heliotrope that I can't identify, but it is not a good scent on me--kind of sickly sweet. No real peachiness, if I try reallyyyy hard I can detect a note, but it might just be in my head at that point. Not for me at all.

    Katharina

Wet, this is juicy apricot over an overwhelming and cloying orange blossom sweet floral note. Dry, the orange blossom tones down and the musk comes out to help bridge the other two notes--a feminine, soft sweet apricot scent, peaches and cream-esque (without being too creamy). Not overly powerful or foodie. Very pretty, it has a quality to it that makes me think it seems like something a commercial perfume would smell like. Not bottle worthy for me.

    The Rose

This rose smells exactly like the rose used in Peacock Queen, one of my favorite BPALs. On its own, it is a beautiful note, but overwhelming and cloying.
