    Akuma

Wet - This smells like pez. Dark pez maybe, but pez nonetheless. Drydown - Pez and grandma's soap. Dry - Grandma's soap. Fruit (pez) has disappeared. Even more dry - Not even soap anymore, just straight powder. I'm wondering now which of the notes my skin is morphing... my chemistry usually loves neroli. I have a feeling it's the blood orange, which makes me sad because I love the way they smell. The verdict: swap.

Choosing a scent for an antique trunk

Just to update everyone, I used my imp of Seance, because I had it on hand and I love the scent. It's perfect! I'd like to thank everyone for their suggestions though. You all gave me incentive to try a bunch of new oils!

Choosing a scent for an antique trunk

Oh I love woods too! I've been dying to try Aureus. I'm kinda thinking about Seance, because I adore Rosewood. Dee is also a good one. It went wonky with my skin chemistry, but I bet it would be amazing in a trunk. And I haven't tried Magus... I'm gonna have to get my hands on an imp.
  4. Hey everybody, I just bought an giant old black steamer trunk, which will probably be used to store books, old clothes and anything I want away from prying eyes like journals, cigarettes, small valuables, etc. When I got it, it was really musty and filled with dust, but I vaccumed it out and want to scent it with something. I'm thinking something kinda literary, maybe paper or tea. I have an imp of Aziraphale and an imp of Clio that I've been thinking of using... but... meep, they're both kinda rare and Clio more so as it's now discontinued. I'm also a bit worried that they aren't strong enough to last. If you had a trunk, what would you scent it with? Also, any advice about how long to leave in a cottonball with oil on it to achieve lasting scent wold be greatly appreciated. I've never scented anything but my own body so I'm afraid I'm a bit of a n00blet when it comes to that. How much oil should I use? A full imp? Who would've thought that scenting something would be so confusing!

    Closest match for L'Occitane Vetiver

Having never tried the perfume you speak of, I'm probably just pulling this out of my ass, but I might try Lex Talionis. LEX TALIONIS -- The law of retaliation and perfect reciprocity: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, an arm for an arm, a life for a life. The essence of blunt justice: dark myrrh, vetiver, cardamom, violet, black pepper, sage, cedarwood and black patchouli with a clarion note of sharp white grapefruit. It has cardamom and cedar in it, which might recreate the nutmeg and cypress... sort of. I don't get grapefruit from it at all, or black pepper, sadly. On me it is just vetiver, cardamom, myrrh and violet, which is too heavy for me but sounds like it might be right up your alley. It also just so happens that I have an imp of it I'd be glad to swap away, if you're interested.

    Séance

This scent is so beautiful I can hardly stand it. Wet, it smells almost like the smoke from a woodfire. As it dries, the wood is still there but faint touches of rose and hazel push their way to the surface and it becomes perfectly balanced. Normally I'm not one for warm scents but this is just gorgeous.

    Snow White

So beautiful. I don't know how it's possible, but it's crisp and creamy at the same time. A very soft, creamy, white floral with a crisp background. This also has incredible staying power. I put it on at 4:00 yesterday, went on a ten mile bike ride, came home and went to sleep and I could still smell it when I woke up this morning. On a less helpful note, I think this is the first blend I've tried that smells like me. I really wish this wasn't discontinued.

    Rose Red

Rose Red smells EXACTLY like sticking your nose into the middle of a dew-laden rose. It has a coldness to it that reminds me of pulling a bouquet of roses from the florist's case. There is also a green background, very much like a freshly cut stem. I love perfumes that deliver a scent that's true to its description. Although I love the smell of fresh roses, I probably wouldn't wear this very often. It's more something I would like my room to smell like. I think I'll be pulling this one out a lot in wintertime. I live in the City of Roses, and I come to miss the smell when they're gone.

    The Pool of Tears

A salty, aquatic floral. It really does smell like tears drowning out Alice's perfume... and thank goodness, because I really dislike Alice. It's funny that I would love The Pool of Tears so much when Alice doesn't agree with me, but so it goes. I'm big on crisp, sweet, fresh and unusual scents, and not a huge fan of warm floral scents. For me, this amplifies and adds a whole new dimension to all the good aspects of Alice. If you didn't like Alice and are reluctant to try The Pool of Tears, I highly recommend giving it a chance. This is one of my new BPAL favorites.

    Lurid

This sent is absolutely breathtaking. If Lurid had a color, it would be deep, dark plum. Wet, it is positively bursting with blackcurrants. After awhile, the lavender takes the edge off and adds a hint of herbiness. The musk and resin lend depth to the blend's sweetness and make it more than just another fruity perfume. This is a real winner. Beth never ceases to amaze.

    Sea of Glass

This is probably the most beautiful scent of all the BPAL blends I've tried. I have other favorites, but this is just gorgeous. It's very difficult to pick out any notes, but it smells... radiant. Very light and fresh... slightly lemony. Not straight lemons, something herbal like lemongrass or lemon verbena. This is everything I hoped Dirty would be and more. This is next on my big bottle purchase list.

    Blood Lotus

To be honest, this smells like straight up gummy bears to me. In the bottle, wet, after the drydown... all gummy bears. I love to eat gummy bears, but this is not the scent for me.

    Whitechapel

I wanted so badly to love this. I adore all the individual notes, and in the bottle it smelled lovely... refined citrus over light florals. Unfortunately, on my skin it smelled like lemon pledge and play-doh. After awhile, the lemon pledge faded and I was left only with the play-doh. So, so sad.

    Glasgow

Smells exactly like the description. To me, this isn't blackberry fruit but the gentle smell of blackberries on the summer wind. Reminds me of summers as a child living in the country, where blackberries grew wild everywhere and my mother planted heather by the door. It is indeed very rosy. Definitely getting a bottle of this.

    51

An crisp, glowing, electric scent. The sweetness of the honeydew and guava is especially apparent when wet. As it dries, the tartness of neroli and mandarin come through. After a few hours, the musk takes center stage, but it's all very balanced. This is my new signature perfume. I really can't say enough good things about it.
