This is my most often worn of this year's Halloweenies. Despite the cocoa and vanilla this does not wear as overtly foody on me. Those two elements act as backdrop to the incense note and the pepper. I like that the smokiness that comes through is softer and not an overwhelmingly charred note. Very glad I got this. The Halloweenies in general are usually my favorite BPALs and this one is especially nice.

I bought this at an East Coast Will Call a few years ago. There was something intriguing about this blend then but also something very bitterly offputting,so I decided to see which side would win, bought it and tried wearing it. The bitterness was overwhelming and I had to stop wearing it. I checked it last year to see if it still smelled as I remembered..yep,still bitter. I rediscovered the bottle today as I was rotating in my summer scents and putting away last season's oils. I decided to try it again and hey,its now wearable! I even LIKE it! It smells exactly like the interior of an occult shop my mother used to send me to when she needed something for a client but was too lazy to go herself. This well aged bottle of War still has that ominous bitterness, but its more in the background now. Its a dark scent that reminds me of roots, herbs and bark gathered for a sinister purpose. There is something sweet in here ,a survivor of whatever long and bitter battle was fought in that bottle for the past few years. It lasts quite a long time on skin and has considerable throw.

Echoing some here,I also add that the first impression I got from this was Innocent,Baby..and wow, what a perfect expression of what this scent commemorates. Both Parent scents are obviously there but what they create together is something new. I do like it,but will wear it very infrequently so as to conserve the fragrance-snapshot in time of the event this scent rejoices.

I agree with lainevierge..this is a more sophisticated relative of Love's Philosophy. Its wonderful!

I don't often hoard bottles but as soon as I got one bottle of this and tried it I ordered another bottle..heavens forbid some key ingredient in it goes kaput or whatever. Lime butter cookies and rum.. wonderful pipe tobacco scent weaving in and out of it. Its got citrus without being cold, is yummy-foody without being cloying, has tobacco but isn't too overtly macho..though a man could wear it. The rum for me isn't too boozy as some alcoholic drink scents (wine, etc) tend to be on me. I like this best as a warm weather scent..didn't reach for it much this winter. The notes listed all manifest for me in pleasing proportions but it sure is interesting to read who amps what notes and how differently many of us percieve the dominance of certain notes versus others!

I read all the reviews as they began coming in and was so hoping I would get this in with my order. And lo and behold I did and I love it! It smells like the sort of fruitcake I make..not too dense, not very alchoholic but buttery, cakey and spicy with dried cherries and other fruits. I also like this much better than Monster Bait Bloody Mary and, echoing many here, would definitely get a full bottle of this if it were offered. Many thanks Lab.

This is one of my top ten favorites from the general catalogue. On me it is primarily an incensy warmed, smooth cedar. What I mean is cedar is the primary note but it is yummified by the vanilla and sasparilla..nothing sharp about this cedar, but on me it is very definitely the major note. I first got this as a frimp from the lab and am so glad they let me try it. Left to my own devices I might not have been attracted to such a masculine scent based soley on catalogue description. But this is a warm and yummy cedar scent women can wear..this isn't crisp and cold as many modern men's fragrances seem to be.

Leaving in a few minutes to take my kiddo trick-or-treating with a neighbor. People think I'm wearing Halloweenish garb no matter what time of year it is, so I'm just wearing gothier-than-normal makeup and one of my top-hatted skeleton shirts (white skeleton, velvet tophat, dark grey background) with the usual black clothing. Scents: I thought about this a long time today, since I have so many Halloween scents. Decided on Samhain '07 (and a touch of Possett's Halloween.) Daughter is wearing a gorgeous masquerade mask and feather boa. She just decided on Scarecrow as her scent.

Pumpkin with tobacco, champa flower, carnation, and tonka. Since overtly foody pumpkin scents are everywhere this time of year,I thought it would be interesting to try the not-so-foody pumpkin blends from The Lab this fall. Pumpkin II opens very buttery-pumpkin-pastry but that very quickly fades and the floral notes begin to sing. Next, the spices begin to mingle with the smell of the florals and the pumpkin stays very much in the background. Once the florals begin to fade, the spicyness remains and the other aspects of this blend become more apparent. Its very interesting how much this changes..more like embarking on a scent-journey rather than applying a scent. I like foody pumpkin scents, but I welcome a sophisticated floral-spicy pumpkin scent such as this as well. I find this scent perfectly compliments the feeling of the season right now.

I wore this a lot last fall and got complimented on it all the time. On me it does not have tremendous staying power,so I have to re-apply frequently which is why I hardly have any left now. It opens with a very intense apple..nice,fresh,juicy. The sweet caramel, slightly smokey, gains in intensity as the apple fades. It is very yummy. I sometimes layer it with other fall scents as well.

I absolutely adore this (2007)! The fir is what I smell at first, but on me,it quickly fades to the background while the fruitier and spicier components come to the fore and linger a LONG time. The patchouli seems to give this just a bit of grounding and depth and on me there is a certain yummy nuttiness. Perhaps that is the combination of the patchouli melding nicely with the spices and fruit. To describe it as an experience: for me,its like stepping outside, getting a whiff of fall woods with fir trees, stepping back inside to a cozy cabin smelling of spice and fall fruits. The window is open a bit and the scent of the woods and earth is there in the background, wafting in from time to time. I love this so much, and have gotten complimented on it when I wear it,so I ordered another bottle for when the first runs out.
