  1. For foody LE's that may or may not return this year but should be available on the Sales/Swaps Pages: Pumpkin Latte, Trick or Treat, Sugar Skull (not everyone gets brown sugar from it but some do), Boo, Huesos de Santo, Marshmallow Pumpkin, Mother Shub's Spiced Lait de Chevre (even though it was a Yule scent), Pickled Imp & SawScaled Viper from Carnaval Diabolique, any of the Beaver Moons, Sprinklecakes, Spice Bush Swallowtail

GC's: Jack, Bengal, Chimera, Miskatonic University (tons of caramel on me), Molly Grue, Bread & Butterfly

I like Samhain for my leafy apple fix but many people find it too intense. October is really strong. To Autumn was nice - leafy with hints of nuts & woods, no rose that I noticed.

  2. I wonder if there's some batch variation of this because I didn't get any berries in my decant either. Seems like some people are sensing them and others aren't - and I wouldn't have minded because I like berry notes.

Minty & snowy with slight vanilla, kind of like one of the Lick Its but not as sweet. Off to a more appreciative home...

  3. Strawberry Moon didn't really thrill me either but I do really like Golletes & L'Essence de L'Engouement (French vanilla, pink candies, strawberry sugar, and orange blossom). I don't notice the orange blossom - it's all sweet strawberry on me.

For bubblegum, I would suggest looking for things that contain Lotus. Many people find it bubblegummy smelling. I really noticed bubblegum in Lotus Moon & Black Lotus (but also in Pandy, Bigger Critters & Ambergris Single Note - though no one else seems to think so in the reviews, so my nose may be weird :) )

  4. I had high hopes for this since I like some blends that have ambergris in them, but it was not to be.

I don't get anything musky & schmexy from it - no, I get aquatic bubblegum. Sigh.

  5. Hi!! (I hope this thread is the right place for my questions!)

I was wondering if anyone had insight on dating a few bottles I have. I'm relatively new to BPAL--I found out about it in October at NYCC. Because I've been able to obtain a few bottles from EvilBay and the forum, I've become a little obsessed with dating them to at least a given year. Obviously the limited editions are usually easy, but there are some others I can't figure out. I tried to find when the scents were introduced by going through the "New and Shiny" pages and the reviews, but I couldn't figure out when any possible label changes might have happened. Any and all advice would be awesome in helping me narrow these down!!! (Or even the knowledge that it's impossible to figure out.) ;)

Here is the list that I still wonder about:

From Carnaval Diabolique (when did the Carnaval go dark?)

    Mme. Moriarty (2006 - ??)

    Zarita, the Doll Girl (2007 - ??)

    The Grindhouse (2008 - ??)

The Witch Queen (Neil Gaiman's Stardust) (introduced July 2007)

Cicuta (says HOMO STRIGA across the top) (introduced July 2010)

Tamora (amber bottle, white label with filigree and blue edges to the label)

Lucy's Kiss (amber bottle, white label with filigree and blue edges to the label)

    Thank you!!!!!! :wub2:

The Carnaval went dark July 1, 2011

(I went to the Announcements thread & did a search for Carnaval & it brought up the relevant posts - I use this all the time!)

There was discussion about the GC label change earlier in this thread - I think the consensus was 2008?

I'm pretty sure Witch Queen was part of the original Stardust release & same with Circuta for the Vampire's Don't Sleep Alone release.

  6. I like to use chunks or slices of the Trading Post's soaps to scent my clothes & blankets. I put them in baggies & the scent travels through the plastic without smearing on the cloth. You could probably use a muslin or gauze drawstring bag instead if you wanted to hang it up.

My blankets smell wonderfully of Shub Niggurath :wub2: so spicy & cosy!

I think there were some sort of sachets for sale on the Trading Post's etsy store a while back, too, but I didn't try them. Nor can I find reviews - anyone know where they're located?

(eta: I think this has been discussed before in the Beyond Perfume section of BPAL Chatter so you might want to browse in there, too.)

  7. I really like Dorian, Cheshire Moon & Hunger Moon (all varying degrees of sweet citrus including lemongrass & lemon verbena).

They're pretty well the only scents I wore this summer, other than an occasional application of Black Lace or Tattered Lace (which also might be worth checking out, along with Red Lace since they all have a sugary vanilla musk base to them).

For plum, maybe Prunella, Sugar Plum Fairy or Midwinters Eve? They're all pretty heavy on the fruit, though, if I remember correctly.

  8. I second Madame Moriarty (not currently available but supposed to return), Spellbound, Blood Countess & Blood Rose.

Perhaps Blood Kiss (lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk)? It's very dark & slightly sinister from the vetiver.

If you don't mind strong roses, I'm very fond of Dawn:Mother, All Saints & Rose Red for projecting a powerful vibe (all un-impable or LE but you should be able to find them on the Sales & Swaps Pages)

  9. A few bottles that have passed through my hands lately & I don't think they've been reviewed here:

Dorian (unknown # ) lemon verbena & strong tea with a melony vanilla finish, brief brown sugar phase

Dorian CL (150) candy-coated fruits, possibly apples, berries, hint of melon - kind of pink feeling overall

Dorian CXC (190) lots of resins, incensey with a vanilla finish - this one also has a bit of a clean topnote at first that I find familiar but can't identify

  10. I get a lot of hyacinth from this one (I have a few bulbs in my garden) but I wouldn't really like wearing it as perfume. Just not my kind of floral - I'm also not a big fan of jasmine & tuberose & though I'm not noticing those notes in particular, they could be contributing to my overall dislike.

  11. Hi everyone, longtime lurker and forum/perfume newbie here! :D

So I just received my first package of imps in the mail, which included Manhattan (lemon) and Aizen-Myoo (various citrus fruits). I absolutely love lemons, oranges and the like, but neither smelled the way I hoped they would :( I get the amber, wood and orchid in Manhattan, and on me Aizen-Myoo is a cloyingly sweet fruit scent- neither had the zest or fruit rind bitterness I was so excited for. What other scents should I try in my next order? Is my nose sadly un-functional? Or should I just accept that my skin chemistry is not meant for citrus scents?

(In addition, I like spicy/woody/aquatic scents, florals not so much.) Any recs are greatly appreciated!

I'll second the rec for Embalming Fluid & since you like the spices suggest Great Sword of War (mandarin, tonka, saffron, black tea, cocoa, tobacco leaf, sanguine red musk and five classical herbs of conflict) which is a spicy orange musk.

Maybe Nyarlathotep - I thought it smelled like limes & wood.

Veering away from citrus, You might like also like Port Royal for the spicy woods with a hint of aquatic. It's a bit on the masculine side.

  12. Have a look on the Sales & Swap pages for Dawn: Mother, Elizabeth of Bohemia, All Saints, Rose Red & maybe Red Rose. They're all LE or un-impable.

From the GC, Snooty Rose might not be so sweet since it has woods in it. I find Peacock Queen to be similar to London on my skin though a bit richer but it might be different on you.

  13. I finally got around to testing a few imps that I received in a swap (Pepper, and War). I fell in love with these two, are there any scents similar to either of these? Shub-Niggurath seems to almost match War, but I am having a hard time finding anything similar to Pepper.

I would give Hermia a try - it has that sweet pink pepper that makes Pepper so interesting but is a bit more golden in feel.
