    O

In the imp this smells like dirty sweatsocks to me. Which is why I took so long to get an imp of my own (first smelled it from a friend's collection), but I learned that in the imp smell and on the skin smell are two different things (Bilquis taught me this....in imp....straight-ugh-almond. On skin....gorgeous!). On me.....this one is a morpher to be sure! On Wet....definately getting a bit of the sharp Snake Oil vanilla scent with something sweeter on top. On Drying...yes, honey comes to play with Snake oil. On Dry.....Karma Sutra honey dust! Swear to GODDESS it smells JUST like it! Incensy honey powder! And since this has amber in it I'm sure it will gradually fade out to a lovely amber leftover....which is what every scent that even has even a smidge of amber in it does on me (not that I mind, amber is one of my favorite notes ever). Not sure if I need a big bottle (I've got enough of various types and this isn't "OMG WOW!" enough to make me go running to order another, but who knows....I'll keep the imp and test often....if I reach a point where I'm wearing it a great deal I'll order big.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

What an odd little scent! Its so light on it almost disappears. But then I find a vanilla/cream/sugar/rum/dusty/warm waft of scent rising from nowhere (wore it to work last night and it wafted for about 5 hours before vanishing....but then, I have to wash my hands/wrists frequently at work)...when I sniff my wrist I have to get right to the skin to smell it....but it DOES waft (a really, really weird thing....one usually thinks of "wafting" scents as being MUCH easier to smell close to the skin)! There is an exotic/dusty smell that I think is the saffron. I'm thinking this'll be a special occasion/scent locket scent since I really have to slather to get good effect. I agree with the above poster who said it was like orange label 13 (ah, 13, one of my favorites in white OR orange dress!) a scent with foody elements that isn't really foody at all when it comes right down to it. Verdict?....I like it alot! Not enough to track down more bottles (it just doesn't have enough "OMPH!"), but I'm glad I did find a good deal on a mostly full bottle. *Edit...the more I sniff myself, the more I like this....however, let me reiterate that its a GOOD thing its such a light scent....makes me less likely to sell my soul to buy more!!!

    Boomslang

Snake Oil with cocoa, teakwood, and rice milk. Chocolate Snake Oil! In the imp its got a lot of chocolate....on....chocolate for the first few minutes rapidly fading to Snake Oil with a hint of cocoa. I might take the above commenter's advice and layer with The Candy Butcher, which is my to-die-for chocolate scent.

    Euterpe

Ugh! The honeysuckle turns this immediately to soap on me. And after THAT mellows the lemon makes it smell like hairspray. Darn it! I wish the carnation and iris were more potent! I'll try this one again just to be sure, but I'm thinking its a no go.

    The Isles of Demons

Not quite sure how I feel about this one yet. This sticks extremely close to my skin....almost NO throw. I get kind of a sweet, green scent with an ozone overlay. Ick! Its turning into toilet bowl cleaner! Nope, not for me!!

    Khajuraho

... This is a blissful, euphoric blend based on an ancient Indian love potion: honey, date palm, tuberose, davana blossom, amber, white sandalwood, vanilla bean, Damask rose, and champaca flower. Mmmmmm, very incensy! The champaca flower is very strong on my skin, and sweetened by the honey. Sandalwood and vanilla bean warm and ground this a bit, which is good otherwise it would be too light on me. The other flowers are there, but very much in the background, though I do catch the rose swirling around in the mix. This is VERY much an "India" scent to me. Probably because of the champaca. I keep thinking of all the incense stores I've been in.....but this smells like expensive incense, not cheap. The throw isn't much. It stays pretty close to my skin. Wish I had a bottle of this!!

Mmmmmm.....Brach's chocolate orange sticks!! and a hint of a floral! Very different from the oct 06 version but just as yummy in a different way! And it lasts forever on me....with little change from first application except to get a bit softer. Managed to track down a bottle of this as well Now....I just need to try the 07 version! Ha!

    Haunted

I'm in love with this! Amber and musk are two of my favorite scents. On wet this DOES have a citrusy POW! but that fades very quickly on me and the amber dominates. It is kept from going too soft (like The Lion does on me) by the deep base of musk. The two notes then balance each other as they dry down. I used to have a Garden Botanika oil blend of amber musk and loved it so much I used it up! This is very similiar. Glad its a GC oil, for I'm sure I'll be getting a big bottle in the future.

    Loviatar

A frimp in a swap I did.... In the imp sharp leather, myrrh and violet. On wet....the leather is the main note, but the myrrh and the violet are also sharply present. I'm almost headachy with the "wet" stage. On dry down....Oh, THANK you AMBER!!! My best friend amber has now come to play and turned this into a glowing warm, leather scent with a pale floral background. Verdict....I like! Not one I need a bottle of, but I definitly see potential for using up the imp!

    The Candy Butcher 2006

I don't know why everyone is getting florals from this. In the imp, on me wet, on me dry and several hours later...this is exactly as described. Rich, dark chocolate and a kind of clotted, thick cream. Perfect for my PMS needs!! I've tried my imp on twice in a row and its the same...had to go order a big bottle!!! I like Bliss, but its powdery and wan compared to The Candy Butcher on my skin. **love this one! Definitly up in my top ten. Have a lab fresh bottle AND bought another bottle from a friend...

    Glasya

I got this because all of the notes are ones I like and I've been looking for more musky scents besides Smut and Fenris Wolf. On my skin this amps rose like nothing else!!! Good thing I like rose! Its a warm rose to be sure, but I was really hoping the musk, dragon's blood and patchouli would dominate. Its strong and seems like it will last well. I'll keep it for the nonce in hopes it drys down better, but the rose is SOOOOO overpowering on me!

    Snake Oil

Hmmmm....thought I'd reviewed this before now! Let me just say, while Snake Oil is not always my #1 swoon scent, it IS the scent I end up applying when I'm not sure how I feel and I just want to smell good! Its got a sharp spice/vanilla to it that I didn't think I'd like. The spice was too sharp....too odd. But the more I tried it, the more it grew on me until I was forced to buy a big bottle. I love Smut, but sometimes it is just too heavy....so Snake Oil it is! I don't know why I like it so much, but I do! I can see why some people smell plastic. Its hard for me do truly describe Snake Oil. It reminds me of snakes, actually. A sharp bite and a warm slithery undertone. Can't wait to try the Pit!! ETA.....aged....two years or more ...Snake Oil becomes a patchouli/ vanilla heavenly scent. If you find it too medicinal or sharp fresh toss i in a dark box and forget about it for three or more years

    Bilquis

In the imp....ALMOND! Ugh. Almond and I do not get along. Happily and almost immediately on my skin the almond vanishes and I'm hit with an amazing blend of all the other notes! I definitly smell the florals with rose being prominent, but they are equally balanced by the musk, honey and apple. And it throws and lasts very, very well! This is an ultra feminine scent. Warm, floral and yummy. Very heady and sexual. I'm not quite convinced I need a full bottle yet (and I still have Mr. Ibis and Spider to try before I do my bottle purchase donation to the comic book fund), but Bilquis is definitly a lovely scent. BTW....had to go start reading American Gods again after applying....anyone else motivated by the Carousel to start a Gaiman reading fest??LOL! LOL! Had almost the same reaction! I haven't tried O on my skin yet (wasn't impressed when I sniffed a friend's imp), but Brisingamen is one of my absolute favorites and Les Bijoux is lovely as well (just bought a bottle for a co-worker's girlfriend because he liked it on me so much...LOL!)

    Thirteen (13): October 2006

Got a decant on a whim from the LJ forum....oh....wish this was a whole bottle!!! Yummy! Chocolate and orange with the florals and woods keeping it from being boring. Mostly chocolate and bright orange at first, but on the drydown I can smell the florals. They are soft and comforting. And my best friend, amber, is definitly lurking in the back letting me know that this scent will continue to mellow well (amber always does on me). Darn it! How am I going to find a bottle? *Edit* Got TWO bottles!!! Yay! And this is a scent that gets noticed and admired!

    Black Rose

Dark, heady rose in the imp. On wet--roses with a deep musky background Dry Down--Musk and amber with a faint whiff of rose. I love musk and amber and I love rose....but this wasn't spectacular enough to warrent a big bottle for me....the rose pooped out too soon and I have other musk/amber scents that I'm more partial to. I'll keep the imp though.

    Mad Sweeney

This was given to me by a friend who loves Gaiman and therefore bought a few of the Carousel scents, but couldn't wear this one. In the bottle--Kentucky Bourbon. I'm a single malt girl and to me this wasn't peaty enough to be Lagavulin.....but it is sweet mash bourbon all the way. On wet....still very alcoholic....woah! On dry down.....clove cigarrette smoke in an oak lined club with a hint of booze in the background! This is a very gothy smell to me. I love it! Not one I'll ever wear to work, but certainly one I'll wear again on the weekends! Thanks Veil!!!

    Hungry Ghost Moon 2006

Oh.....this one is just In the bottle it smelled fruity...kinda like a less potent version of Fire Pig. The minute I put it on my skin I knew I had a winner! I could smell some kind of citrusy grapefruit/lime/green scent immediately (love grapefruit!) and then all sorts of other notes pop up....vanilla, definitly and some very green/herby scents. The drydown brings out the sandalwood a bit more, but not overwhelmingly so. It just becomes a base for the lighter notes to ride....which is nice because I'm hoping sandalwood's staying power helps the lighter notes last. AND the ginger is light and lovely, but not the main note like it is in Shub. The musk is also very light and combines well with the sandalwood in a warm, comforting base. Beautiful! So glad I bought this!!!! Perfect early summer scent! Edit.....furthur dry down info...This stays VERY green smelling. Its an asian type smell that isn't too spicy for me. green AND warm....nice....The grapefruit/citrus smell dissappears for the most part (like it does in everything on me) but there is still enough of it to be noticable.....SCORE!!! And I think the bamboo and aloe help with the "greenness".

    Absinthe

Hmmmmm....I just got my imp from a S&S LJ purchase and it smells nothing like the imp my friends have. Their imp is very anise with a titch of lemon. Mine is MINT, Lemon....and Waaaaaaaaaaay in the background a itty bitty bit of anise. Having had absinthe (both homemade and some weird brand a friend purchased in Japan and smuggled back to the states for me) my friend's imp with the uber anise smell was more correct. Which is not to say that I don't like MY imp! I'm not really a fan of anise as a flavor and ambivilent of it as a scent. Woah!....just resniffed after 10 minutes and yeah....there is the anise! But it blends so well with the mint and lemon I just adore it! Now it DOES smell just like absinthe the liquor....Crazy!--of course this makes me wonder if my friend's imp will smell just like absinthe after dry down or not?.....a question for a future meet and sniff party (and maybe I'll have to scrounge up a homemade absinthe bottle to have at said party....well, you know, just for scent comparision..... Hmmmmm, not something I'll wear often, but nice....very different!

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

CCCLXXIV--previously reviewed by yeahboutnobut and filigree_shadow I received this decant from filigree_shadow... In the imp--floral/linen soap On Wet--Still very soapy but in a clean, refreshing way. The floral aspect is a nice midrange floral...not too light, not too heady. Can't pick out quite what the flower is though. Dry down--15-20 minutes...this does have a titch of a citrus/creamy tone, but the linen/floral are the strong notes. This reminds me of laundry fresh out of the dryer. And it seems to be lasting well with average throw. Verdict--This is not a scent I would normally wear, but I DO like it and can see wearing it on those occassions I want a crisp, clean feeling. I'll be keeping this imp...thanks filigree_shadow!!! (she gave it for free!! )

    Fire Pig

Decant from a friend..... I felt like I needed a happy, fruity, bright smell today so I applied....Mmmmmm......fruity goodness....makes my mouth water....smells like grape BubbleYum to me...but since I like that smell all is good. There is also a lush floral behind the fruit (Peony?) About two hours later its vanished off my skin....but...HOORAY! I got my new scent locket today and so it got its first scent pad loaded with Fire Pig. WOAH! YAY! Fire Pig lasts forever in the scent locket! Stays pretty true...though I can smell the bamboo peaking out a bit now (5 hours later). I'm a bit sad I began my bpal addiction JUST too late to get this one in a 5ml....but I did just purchase a bottle of Hungry Ghost Moon from another addict and (due to comparisons here) hope it will be a decent "instead of" scent for when I need to slather.

    Lucy's Kiss

I've decided I like rose scents. Not as much as I like amber, musk and vanilla, but I like them for when I'm feeling girly and fragile. Lucy's Kiss is at once both womanly and innocent....just like the description. The rose is clean and light....not a deep overblown red rose or dried roses (like Zombi) but a soft pink or white rose that has been elegantly pruned and placed in the sitting room of a well to do home. The spices are subtle, but serve as a complex background to make this more than just a "rose" scent. I like Zombi better for my rose needs, but I'll definitly keep this imp!

    Bakeneko

Damn you cinnamon!!!!! This goes all cinnaminty on me....I like it...and may like it better when I'm not so tired...but I'm mildly allergic to cinnamon and this is amping cinnamon like none of the other oils ever have....BAD KITTY!!! I think its the tea note that is making me think 'mint'. I can't let it go just yet.....I want to love it.....maybe if I use it very sparingly???? **Edit**even though I had to wash off my slathering because of the allergic reaction there was still some lingering scent. I put Snake Oil on over top and the blend was very nice. However, I think Bakeneko is a fantastic scent.....I think I'll try it on my long-distance b-friend when next he comes to visit. Its a scent I think would be VERY sexy on a man! ***Edit #2.....even just smelling makes me swell up.....swapped for my new love 13! But if you aren't allergic to cinnamon try this one.....its lovely smelling!!

    Thanatopsis

frimp from the lab....THANK YOU LABBIES!!!! In imp-Pine On wet-Pine and juniper On dry-Pine, juniper and a warmth in the background that must be the musk. As this dries the musk comes out more and blends with the pine. I like this alot.....Makes me think of being in the deep forest with an animalistic state of mind.....might need to be big bottle in the future. Hmmmm....got a bottle of Wolf Moon and it smells very similiar....think I'll hold off on buying Thanatopsis since Wolfy and I are getting along so well.....One pine/musk scent is enough for me, I think!

    Anubis

This wasn't one I'd off-the-bat thought of getting, but it was listed cheap in a sale...sooo....what the heck! In the imp--floral incensy--sweet and green florals On wet--green and aquatic with odd floral background Drydown--Old incense (the Gonesh description DOES fit!) sweet and resinous....golden... I like it...not enough to run out and get a bottle, but I'll be wearing this one again.
