Got an empty bottle of this in a decant circle, so just enough left to lightly test... It's an intriguing scent. Not sure I would wear it, but I find it quite compelling. It smells a little masculine, but not overly so. There's a sweet herbal smell, that's the best way to describe it. Definitely not an aggressive herbal. But what is that sweet smell?? Is it fruit, or is it floral? It's so light that it's hard to say...

I was sure I was going to love this one. BPAL foody smells and I work out very well. What wasn't to like about this? This has had THE WORST reaction of any BPAL ever to my skin, I think. It smells of rancid butter. No joke. Argh! I have sent it far, far away from me. Sad. However, I have got an imp of Bliss now so I'm hoping that will fulfill my chocolate wishes.

A biscuity kind of chocolate, this one - a bit like Bourbon biscuits, for the Brits on the forum... It has a dry chocolate smell, rather than the creamy chocolatiness of a bar of the stuff. A very nice foody smell, though I'd have preferred a bit less crumb and a bit more cream.

Eat Me is one of my favourites! It's not a sophisticated, grown up scent, no no. It's a gleefully JAMMY scent, like a blackcurrant jam tart made with the butteriest, most indulgent shortcrust pastry and filled with gloopy dollops of sweet, sweet blackcurrant jam, bursting with real fruit pieces.

I don't know what it is with my skin chemistry, but a lot of the evil scents just smell pure and good on me! Now, the downright perverted scents like Perversion or Velvet, they are sordid. But Dorian? Smells very well behaved. And Shub? No evil goats for me. When I wear it, I smell like warm gingerbread, buttery and nice, the only wickedness coming from the calories such biscuits would contain. Not that I'm complaining - I love Shub to bits and just ordered a bottle. It just amuses me, 'sall.

Snake Oil was an imp I got in January in my first batch of BPALs. It didn't really impress me at all, but people told me to let it age. After about 4 months, it smelled gorgeous! So, my recommendation is that if you don't like it too much, put it away for a few weeks. It was a bit acrid at first, and it seems to me it seems to mellow down a bit. Now I really love it!

I got an imp freebied by a lovely lady, and then I HAD to order a bottle. I'm not sure why exactly, but this smell just enchants me. It's not sophisticated, and in some ways the combination of scents is odd. But it's COMPELLING. On wet, it smells very chocolatey, like chocolate overlaying Snake Oil. On drying down, the chocolate scent is very faintly there, but now it smells more like sugared almonds. Musky, naughty sugared almonds. YUM.

Got an imp of this in the livejournal swopathon (woo!), and I wouldn't have thought to try it but it's lovely! Full-bodied rose, wet and lush, undercut with a slightly green scent of vegetation or grass. Very womanly; a compassionate and mature scent.

Olfactory caffeine: Wake up, Stay Awake with BPAL
rachel2205 replied to friendthegirl's topic in Recommendations
Crapola, managed to miss this thread in my sifting... Sorry! Thanks for your recommendations! Hmmm. How about grapefruit? Baobhan Sith is very bright and alert-making on me, it's grapefruit, white tea, and ginger, with a little apple blossom to soften it a touch. Some people also find green or white tea notes citrusy and bright too, like Kumiho or Embalming Fluid, which also has lemon in it but not a huge amount. That sounds like a very pretty scent! I haven't come across it in my roaming around the BPAL site, so I shall go check out the reviews of it here. Thanks! -
Olfactory caffeine: Wake up, Stay Awake with BPAL

I get up early I look around me I'm buying coffee by the pound But when I'm sleeping I'm so deep in it I can't keep myself awake That song may be familiar to fellow Buffy fans! ANYWAY. I am reasonably new to BPAL. Am having fun here so far! I want recommendations for scents that will perk me up and keep me awake! I suffer from chronic fatigue, and have a busy life as a PhD student. I find scents can be quite invigorating, so thought you might have recommendations. Oh, but not particularly minty ones. I know mint is quite reviving, but my boyfriend hates the smell, so i don't want to put him off. I'm thinking citrus scents might be good, but I don't want to smell like Lemon Pledge. Thoughts? Thanks! -
Don't worry, I'm not going to be an overkeen newb and review every single thing I've tried, but this is one of the ones I like best so far! I have no idea what myrtle or melilot smell like, but this is a delicious smell. It goes on really sweet, with an overriding scent of peach, but it settles down into something more sophisticated and rich. I can definitely pick out watery notes, but it's not a cold scent at all. Recommended!

I got this one as a frimp, so I thought I'd add my perspective as a newbie trying a scent I hadn't picked! I am really pleased with this one - the description didn't sound like my sort of scent at all, but it really works. I'm not sure that this will give me dreams of plunder or power, but it is a very nice scent. It is quite sweet, laid over with a musky, light incense sort of smell, with a perfume of something like exotic flowers and something almost salty behind it. Not one I would have picked myself, but it's really rather lovely. Definitely a keeper.
