    Dark Pumpkin Mead

I smell all the described scents in the bottle of Pumpkin Mead: pumpkin, booze, a hint of clover, and the dark sweetness of maple. Right when I put it on my skin, however, it turns to SPICE! Maple and spice overload. My wrist now stinks of a pumpkin Red Hot. Hopefully once it settles down, it will become that dark and earthly sweet that arises out of the bottle. 10 minutes later: Now smells like a dark, boozy honey. It's growing on me.

    Yule Cookie

This reminds me soooo much of holiday cookies, that wearing it, even in the summertime, it makes me nostalgic for winter celebration. In the bottle: Sweeeeeetttttt. Sugar, sugar, sugar. Vanilla. I don't smell any citrus up front. Just that good ol' sugar cookie smell. On the skin: A little more orangey. Buttery and sweet, and the vanilla definitely takes on a different tone. Sweet, but comforting, not sickly.

    Pumpkin III (2008)

One of my favorite pumpkin-y scents. I wear the sweet stuff whenever I spend time with my SO, as he tends to like the sweeter scents on me. This scent appeals both to his sweet tooth and to my love of herbal smells. In the bottle: A huge whiff of sweet pumpkin with a lemon undertone. I didn't detect anything herbal when sniffing the bottle. It reminded me of Yankee Candle during the holiday season, but with a slightly more citric sharpness. On *my* skin: The pumpkin becomes softer and less in-your-face. I love the hit of lemon, mint and parsley. On my skin, this scent is incredibly herbal, while the pumpkin is more of an anchor and deeper note. I like this a lot more than I thought I would!

    Oleander Honey

I’m never quite sure how to rate the scents which smell great, but just aren’t for me. I’m a woodsy type: I like dark, musky scents with deep, earthy undertones. I’m sure from the description and the title, it is easy to guess that this scent is the opposite of those qualifiers. I received this scent for free after ordering other scents (damn, I love this website), and I ended up giving this imp to my mother who thought it was the best thing she’s ever smelled. Jar: Very sweet, with the natural funky smell honey has. Bitterness of crushed flower buds. Moderately strong. On *my* skin: Ditto.

    Greed

I have started forcing my boyfriend to wear this because I love it, but already have a million other things I want to wear (thanks BPAL, I’m addicted to you). In the vial: Woody, musky, mossy, leather, spice and a hint of a dark sweetness (almost like a chocolate smell). On *my* skin: The sweetness really comes out. Smells like chocolate woods. On *his* skin: Leathery. Extremely mossy and spicy. Just like a cigar shop or humidor that has been used for years.

    Olokun

Everyone keeps saying this scent is masculine, but for me it’s completely the opposite. It smells a bit like the most delicate of laundry detergents. Reminds me of sheets and crisp linens. Reminds me completely of my mother when we would visit our relatives in Virginia in the summer. Although I love the scent, it doesn’t match my scent profile. Light and a little bitter. In the vial: Flowery, bitter, soapy. On *my* skin: Much more bitter-smelling, though pleasant. Reminds me of bubbles and bubble-bath.

    Destroying Angel

This scent goes to my mother who loves the flower scents that remind her of the South. I know that doesn’t match the description of this at all, but that is what it smells like to me. To me, it smells EXACTLY like the springtime, unripe honeysuckle, that you would eat and it would taste bitter because it wasn’t ready to be plucked yet. In the vial: A little soapy, but a sharp, crisp honeysuckle type sweetness. Unripe fruit or flowers. Seeds. Dry clay. Hint of mildew. On *my* skin: Same intensity.

    Yorick

Grave dirt, bone, decay, angel's trumpet, and moldering scraps of shroud: the essence of finality. This scent reminds me of rotting wood. I feel like any mysterious antique shop smells just like this. It’s a lot more funky-smelling in the imp, but I like that edge to it. My parents had an old sailboat that would never actually float, and this scent completely reminds me of going underneath to bail out the water. In the vial: Rot, wood, mildew, flowers On *my* skin: Wet wood, sweet flowers, pine shavings, wet cloth

    Burial

I’m an archaeologist by trade, and I know my dirt. And this smells like…dirt. Like being buried in the best-smelling soil I’ve ever put to my nose. Smells like pine needles, salt, sand, minerals, and a little bit of mint. A little menthol-ly but like cold rocks. Definitely one of my favorite scents! In the vial: Sharp, menthol, cleaning agent, minerals. On *my* skin: Deep, dark earth with soapy rocks and gritty sand. Less sharp, but definitely still like pine and mint. Cold. Damn, I love this one.

    Zombi

Wow, wow, wow. Extremely earthy smelling. I think this smells much more dark and like wet earth than Deep in Earth does. Especially on my skin. I definitely pick up the roses, but to me, they are an afterthought, which is just what I wanted. In the vial: Deep, deep, earth. Wet flowers. Rain. Salt. On my skin: More rosey, but covered in mud. Glorious!

    Deep in Earth

Rose geranium, Spanish moss, Irish yew, and graveyard dirt. I love, love this scent in the imp. Smells just like earth with dried flowers sprinkled over the top. Reminds me a bit of old soapy roses. I smell the moss and darker notes more in the vial. On my skin, however, it starts smelling a little more like the perfumes my grandmothers used to wear. Bottled: Soil and dried flowers. Soapy and a little bit like soil drying in the sun. On *my* skin: Becomes much more floral on my skin. Less dark and more rosy. Old-fashioned and brittle.

    The Dodo

Red musk, lemon peel, sugar cane, cassia, white sandalwood, mango, and agarwood. I received a vial of this for free with my order of some Carnival Diabolique scents. I love it. After sniffing it for hours, I still don’t know how to aptly describe it. Floral and musky (which is not even my go-to scent profile) with a slightly sweet undertone. More pefume-y than anything I have ever worn, but wildly feminine. The draw of this scent, for me, is it’s funky naturalness. I almost feel as if I’m a wild girl who’s spent all day in a meadow. Or a girl whose family told her not to go far, but she wandered off anyway. This is a primarily daytime scent for me. Bottled: Strong, strong, strong. Extremely floral and musky. On *my* skin: I would say it goes from floral–>flowery on the skin. A wispy or ephemeral flower and musk scent. Undertone of vanilla and grass (I know those aren't mentioned above, but my skin does weird things to scents).

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2015)

Here was the review I wrote for the NEW Mme. (I am new to BPAL and never even knew there was an old version lol) When I first opened the bottle, I got the whiff of the medicinal scent other reviewers were smelling. However, like the other reviewers mention, the medicinal smell is exactly what you expect an apothecary to smell like: old-world, dark, a little fruity. The scent on my skin became immediately intimate. I ordered this perfume to smell mythical and supernatural. I wanted to invoke the feelings vintage fortune tellers might invoke. Needless to say, this scent achieved this goal. I don’t think this scent is for everyone, but when I go out on the town at night with crimson lipstick, this is the scent I wear. Bottled: Highly medicinal and a little sickly sweet (think cherry lozenges) with a hint of smoke and incense. On *my* skin: Less sweet. Darker. Reminds me of candle wax and a swept floor. I went to a store in Piccadilly Circus once that sold puppets (circa 2001, don’t think it’s there anymore) and it smelled JUST like this. Weirdly, I ended up buying tarot cards there.
