In the imp: cedar. Freshly cut cedar. A little green.

 

Wet: Cedar! With a little bit of clean tobacco flower over it.

 

Dry: soft cedar, still with that raw quality to it. I get some hints of floral, maybe a touch of sweetness from the rose? I am unfamiliar with davana, and don't know if I could pick it out.

At first I hated this on my skin. I think the apple, fir, and patchouli combo was too strong for me at first. It smelled like a weird, medicinal candle and it kept getting spicier. Normally I like all those notes just fine. Eventually this calmed down to a dark, slightly dirty, spicy apple. I really liked it, but more testing will be needed to see if I can roll through the dry down.

In the imp: sweet red apple, red musk, and teak.

 

Wet: Similar to in the imp but the apple is even sweeter and I get both musks, but red musk is still more prominent.

 

Dry: The patchouli is faint and blends well with the teak and are definitely down at the base of this scent. What I mostly get is apple and vanilla cream combining for a very sweet apple candy. The musks (mostly red for me) swirl around it. It's just a little too sweet and fruity for me.

Dry spice. Nothing sweet or syrupy, or fresh pumpkiny to me. Mostly cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. It's very nice but I like my spicy scents with a touch of sweetness.

Everything else in this is good, but orris just smells awful to me for whatever reason. It smells dank, musty, and sweet in the worst way. I can tell this would be really great without the orris (or really great for someone who likes it!) but I just cannot do it.

The lemon verbena smelled way too sharp in the vial for me. On the green tea and jasmine help to soften it up, and the blend is almost refreshing. But I just really do not like lemon verbena unfortunately.

Ooooh yes I would recommend the Carnivale too! My favorite is Mme. Moriarty but will also second the recommendation for Boomslang. I also love Boober from the Fraggle Rock collection, a beautiful one if you like clean scents. I know it's technically LE but the Scalia is perfection in my opinion and it does not seem to be going anywhere soon. My favorite is Ask the Nearest Hippie, but I also love Mummeries and Straining-to-be Memorable Passages.

In the imp: cherry cough syrup. Looking at the notes it must be almond reading as cherry.

 

Wet: Cinnamon, the fiery kind. The almond is becoming nuttier but still leans cherry.

 

Dry: The cinnamon disappears on me. The bitter almond and neroli clash to my nose, but it does not smell bad. Just not my cup of tea!

Beautiful heady florals, the white musk is clean but the blend never smells soapy to me. A really soft and innocent scent. I mostly get white rose and magnolia. This strikes me as a beautiful bridal perfume.

Oh this is very refreshing! I get a lot of green tea and ginger at the beginning, with maybe a hint of lemon. Dry it's soft grasses, green tea, and some fig for earthy sweetness.

 

This one is super faint on me. I get a little soft leather, incense, and sage. It seems more like the memory of a warrior's cologne on me.

Dormouse - A dizzying eddy of four teas brushed with light herbs and a breath of peony. (This seems light and fun, but with a quiet aspect too.)

 

The Book (Lupercalia 2016) - Brown leather, tonka, vanilla bourbon tar, and a thin whiff of rose. (Romantic and bookish!)

 

Jack - true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove. (Since you love fall/Halloween)

 

The Obsidian Widow- Pinot noir, dark myrrh, red sandalwood, black patchouli, night-blooming jasmine, and attar of rose (Masquerade ball made me think of this one, and it is definitely a more adult scent.)

Mokey - A gentle, contemplative fragrance: lilac blossoms, violet sugar, orris root, stephanotis, and osmanthus. (For the eternal optimist!)

 

Florence - The pearl of the Italian Renaissance. Elegant iris, bright berries, gilded amber and velvety spices. (Since you studied the Renaissance)

 

Lily Witch - Her interpretation is swathed in anise, lime, almond, and witchin’ herbs, and holds a bouquet of pale, graceful lilies. The end result is a sweet, nutty absinthe’d lime with a hint of spice and leather. (This seems herby and whimsical good for both the hippie side and someone who likes working with kids!)

 

Cleric -Rose amber, frankincense, myrrh, champaca flower, Peru balsam, cistus, palisander, cananga, hyssop, and narcissus absolute.(A nice soft nag champa-like incense blend for the yogi!)

This starts off a bit sharp, I get almost anise like vibe but it's just the initial gnarliness of the patchouli I believe. The patch settles in with the tea fougere and a little incense. Then it gets sweeter, from the vanilla and osmanthus. The vanilla is truly opalescent. There is also a dry quality from the sandalwood. A beautiful mysterious scent, that is hard to describe as a whole. It's a dark but not heavy scent. Like swirling smoke.

In the imp: Softly herbal, with gentle aquatic notes and peach blossom. An interesting but pretty combo

 

On wet: Peach blossom, roses, and rain.

 

Dry: Similar to wet but a little fruity. This is so refreshing for summer! I'll keep my imp and revisit it then.

In the imp: red wine and sharp honey.

 

Wet: Honey. Too much honey...

 

Dry: Sickly sweet honey choking everything out. I thought my honey problem had gone away, but I think it is just certain blends that it goes wrong. Too bad, I thought this was going to be lovely!

To me this is equal parts pumpkin and tobacco. Both incredibly rich and sweet, this definitely needs a light hand with application! It is sweet and a little bit spicy but the tobacco keeps it from being foody. Simple, deep and beautiful for fall.

This has to be my favorite dead leaves scent ever. I'm having a hard time describing how all of these notes sum up. The leaves themselves are not super strong, but they are dry and crisp. I can't pick out the individual notes beyond a little black tea and sandalwood. This scent has layers for sure. It's lightly sweet and earthy, but not dirty. I think this will pair well with scents like Reapers Gonna Reap and Morocco.

 

 

The ambergris is definitely front and center in this one. So if that is a love note for you, grab this.Now. This is beautifully sweet, musky, and warm. It's that nice almost salty skin scent. I do not get much of the bleached woods, and just a hint of warm tobacco. It's a dry scent, but not dusty. It is absolutely gorgeous and it has some nice throw and wear length. This is the most beautiful smelling hag imaginable.

 

 

The tonka, bourbon vanilla, and benzoin create a nice spicy, vanilla base. It is rich and dry, not buttery or foody. There seems to be honey and clove in equal parts, but they are not super strong. It's a nice sweet and spicy warmth over the vanilla. This reads surprisingly autumnal to me. I get just the tiniest bit of dry, herbal lavender underneath everything. This is so comforting and cozy!

 

 

2016 version:

 

This starts as mostly juicy, tart pomegranate. Dry it's myyrh and amber dominant. It's rich, warm, and sweet. Very smooth. There is just a hint of tart pomegranate that brightens things up a little. A quiet blend, it straddles that transition of warm summer into cool fall very nicely.

The dead leaves is the most prominent note, especially wet. Dry the leaves are a little smoother and sweeter, and everything is very well blended. If I really search I faintly smell of champaca and a little bite from patchouli.

Oooh thanks everybody! Lots of good stuff here. I have tried Black Forest, Dracul, Yggdrasil, and The Jersey Devil. The last two were close but not quite sweet enough! I'll see if I can't track down an imp of Przeczucie!

Okay this is definitely odd but also... good? I will admit I was expecting (hoping for) a gauzy linen scent, which this certainly is not. While I understand the rubber Halloween prop vibe people are getting this smells dark green and herby to me like Scarlet describes. Up close it's almost sweet, and I do think there is some chamomile. Farther away I get a vaguely rubbery vibe. But mostly I get an almost sinister green herb concoction.

Hey forest fanatics! I am looking for a sweet pine scent. Something evergreen, but not super cold or camphoraceous. Are there any BPALs that fit the bill? GC is great but I don't mind hunting for an LE!

Overall this is a sweet incense on me. The hyssop was the first thing I could smell in the imp, herby and almost camphoraceous. But there was a definite sweetness underneath. I don't get much rose, more amber and the other resins at the heart. The champaca and ylang ylang (cananga) are the florals I get the most. Rich, sweet, and a little heady. I think I may need a bottle of this!
