    Hanerot Halalu

I've had this on my wish list for ages, really glad it made a comeback this year! I adore beeswax so much. 2017 version: Wet: Oh wow, that's beautiful. I didn't know what to expect from the olive oil, but it comes across almost like olive blossom, which is gorgeous. The effect is a slightly floral, slightly smoky beeswax. Not too sweet or high pitched. Perfection. So far, I am wishing the throw was a bit stronger though. Usually beeswax is really strong on me, this is more subtle. Dry: This gets stronger as it warms on my skin. The floral olive note is simply gorgeous with the beeswax - I would say they are both equally the star of this, with just the tiniest hint of smoke. LOVE. There are too many loves so far this Yule season (rare for me!) so I don't think I will manage a back-up, but if this comes back again another year, or if I have a chance at another bottle later on, I won't hesitate. It's quietly stunning.

    Blackcurrant Sufganiyot

I did not expect to love Strawberry Sufy, but I totally do. It's so yummy (full disclosure - I am a huge sucker for a fruit-goo filled donut, so the scent of one really does it for me. Lol). I adore blackcurrant way more than I like strawberry, so I am stoked to see if this is even better on me! Wet: Ermagherd how does Beth do it?!?! It seriously smells like a deliciously fresh donut filled to bursting with yummy fruit goo. I find this less sweet and with more tartness than strawberry, which is fine by me. I will have to do a side-by-side to see if I like it better, but I can tell right now I love it at least as much. Mmm! I want a donut. Badly. I swear this even smells like there is powdered sugar on it. Oh wait, it says that in the description, duh. Ha. It's so realistic, I am having serious cravings right now! Must convince myself that enjoying the scent is just as good as eating a donut...... Dry: This stays truly amazing on me. Nom nom nom. A keeper. I feel like Homer Simpson. Mmmmm, donut....

    A Hailstorm of Knitting-Needles

Wet: UMFG...*eyes roll back in head*. Yeah. It's that good. Think Dorian's vanilla tea (minus the fougere and musk) mixed with Antikythera's glowing woods. That's right, Dorian and Antikythera had a love child, and it is sexy as hell. It's light, a skin scent thus far. I wish there was more throw. That may come with age. This is amazing though. Dry: Ugh, I am so sad!! This is totally gone on me in less than an hour. What a bummer, because I adore it. I will have to age it and then give it another go, see if that makes a difference.

    The Air and the Ether

Wet: Oh MAN is this good! I love the amber/lavender combo of Good Morning, London and this is just as good - likely better. The ambergris gives it a musky feel that takes it up a notch. I adore this. I had thought to get a back-up of Good Morning, London if I could find one, but I think I will get a back-up of this instead. This will be a favourite bedtime scent for me for years to come, I can tell already. *swoons*. Dry: Oh this is seriously a winner. Sweet musky amber and lavender. Gorgeous. I will wear the heck out of this. Backup worthy for sure.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

Any pepper? Black pepper and pink pepper both have a very different scent. This is what I found (I haven't tried any of them, they just list notes of both rose and pepper in some form): GC Emma (The District) Vanilla bourbon, tea rose, jasmine, pink pepper, and patchouli. LE Pothôn Mêtêr Rose absolute, caramel, ripe red berries, pink pepper, Balsam of Peru, cognac, and benzoin. From You I Have Been Absent in the Spring White lilies, vermillion roses, vanilla orchid, sweet clove, white frankincense, velvety brown oudh, cistus, styrax, aged red patchouli, and a hint of black peppercorn. The Onnagata and the Pillow Roll White musk and Himalayan cedar with bergamot, rose absolute, white patchouli, pink peppercorn, and hay absolute. Taurus 2016 Rose absolute and Moroccan jasmine with ylang ylang, red sandalwood, black pepper, and red patchouli. And that was all I could find! Apparently it's not a popular combo, but maybe someone else will know of a rose/pepper combo I missed.
  7. The dry-down of Oil and Pitch (once the pine has burned off a bit) is the same amber, on me, as Hesiod's. I would think Oil and Pitch would be slightly easier to find, maybe? I have never found anything in the GC with that same amber note, unfortunately (or I would hoard it!).

    Where is this scent?

Beth posted about the issues they are having right now - some are component issues with a lot of the GC's (meaning they are not discontinues, just OOS until they get the components needed to make them again). Then on top of that they are having website issues with things popping on an off the site. Beth said if anything is officially discontinued we will be notified. So I think the short answer is "not yet", just OOS, but if they are never able to get the components again, they could be Discon'd.

    Broadway

Wet: Dry, woody/earthy patchouli is dominant. Then I get some hints of sweet red musk. But mostly patchouli. Hoping the other notes will come out as it settles - not a huge fan of this patchouli note. Dry: Still all about the patchouli, which lately hasn't been great with my skin chem/nose. So this is sadly not for me. (Or maybe fortunately? Now I don't have to hunt more down).

    Ruddy Daggerwing

Wet: Chocolate, orange, coffee....and damp basement. ICK. Something in this goes slightly mildewy or moldy on my skin - not nice. It lurks under the chocolate and orange with coffee scent, and makes me want to vomit a bit. Dry: Stomach turning mildew. No idea why. This has either gone off, or is just not for me. I don`t usually have an issue with any of these notes, but am unfamiliar with ebony, maybe that`s the culprit. Too bad, this should have been awesome on me.
  11. [No additional description provided.] So, lemon and I aren't friends, but couldn't resist something called "cream amber", so here goes! Mmm! I had not taken into account how clean this might smell!! I love clean HG scents for work. The lemon is really sweet, almost candied, and I am digging that. It's a light scent, with the dead leaves note a dry, subtle one. I don't know as I am getting the cream amber, unless that's the lovely sweetness I am getting. Anyway, this is a great, totally non-offensive clean smelling HG, and I will happily wear it to work.

    Indonesian Clove

I basically obsessed with clove, due to my misspent youth thinking I was cool and smoking clove cigarettes.... Wet: Sweet, pure clove. Smells very much like the essential oil I use occasionally when I get a little overenthusiastic with the charcoal powder and my teeth get a bit sensitive. You know, oddly enough, as much as I have longed for clove dominant scents lately, not sure if I am digging smelling solely of clove. I am not much of a layerer, but suddenly I want to play around and start adding things to this. Like vanilla, and tobacco. Hmmm. Dry: Gone, poof! Surprisingly not long lasting at all, for what started out as such a strong scent. Maybe layering it is the way to go. Or maybe it just needs some age? Anyway, it was pure wonderful clove, as promised, and I am happy to have it.

    Cold Moon

2017 version: Wet: sweet slushy snow, similar to the snow note in Mat Night that I adore. Mint as well, but not a ton of it. Something a touch green. I amp that snow note like crazy though, so this is pretty well single note snow on me. Lovely, but like most other snow scents I try, unless they have a note in them I amp even more than the snow note. Dry: Soft sweet snow. The mint is gone, but I still get hints of green. It's an ethereal sort of snow scent. I like it.

    Pumpkin Sugar Hair Gloss

This is yummy, but to my nose it smells exactly like every other "pumpkin spice" thing ever. They all smell the same to me. This one is maybe more sweet and creamy, slightly less spicy. I do like it. But I can't help wishing it was more pumpkin and sugar and less spice, so it would stand out more from other pumpkin scents.

Dead Leaves and Sugar Crystals Hair Gloss

Oh wow. This makes no sense, and I am wondering if my decant got labelled wrong - because this smells like Dead Leaves and BANSHEE BEAT. I kid you not. I have no idea why. But it does. And it's sexy as all get out. I keep sniffing it, thinking I've gone bonkers....but nope, still smells reminiscent of Banshee Beat mixed with Dead Leaves (the DL note that smells like actual dead leaves, not the aquatic one of the cologne one). Like the earthy dead leaves have taken the place of the patchouli in BB, but left the sexy sugary vanilla/hemp smell. The leaves are earthy enough to give a similar feel to the patchouli. I keep thinking I must have gotten something else on the sleeve of this sweater before I sprayed this HG on it, but I didn't. I know I didn't. I have no idea what's happening, it may just be my nose, but this seriously reminds me of BB and I am pretty stoked about the whole thing. Will report back next time I use it to see if anything changes... So far one of my favourite Dead Leaves scents EVER and I totally wish it came in perfume too.

    Pumpkin Spice Rum Hair Gloss

I'm a sucker for rum, so I wanted to give this a go. I have Pumpkin Spice Latte on my other sleeve, and it's interesting how different they are. This one is totally different proportions of spices. It's not as sweet. I think maybe cinnamon dominant. It's good, but I had hoped for more rum. WOW that's some powerful spice. I detect tiny hints of rum under all that spice, but I don't think it's enough for me to need this in my collection, I already have enough HG to sink a ship...

    Pumpkin Latte Hair Gloss

Mmmm, I didn't think I would like this much, but it's way yummier than I anticipated. It actually smells more like a chai latte to me. With cookies. I get some sort of pastry note. Oh wait, now I am getting the coffee. Yuuum. This will go with any of the coffee and spice scents I have, like Café Mille. Keeper!!

    Take a Knee

Who can honestly say that one of their life goals is not to smell like apple pie? I mean, come on. Wet: Mmm. Delicious. Oh I totally get the hint of grass too, fun!! I have to say though, I think it smells more like apple cider than pie to me - either that or Americans make apple pie differently than Canadians. Either way, this is awesome, and the grass makes it a touch earthy and I really like that. Dry: Nose to skin, this is a little weird on me. The grass note goes a bit bitter (as it sometimes does). The throw though, is incredible apple and spices and grass - who knew that would be such an awesome combo? I can't say for sure that I really need a bottle....but I also can't say that I don't.

    Black Pomegranate

I don't like regular pomegranate on me, it's super bitter and dusty and just not good. But I was curious about black pomegranate. My decantress was generous enough to send me a sniffie of it. Wet: Gah, this is just such a skin chem fail for me!! In the bottle, this is rich, dark, fruity - sweet but also tangy, and very sultry. On my skin - artificial, plastic and headache inducing. FAIL. Dry: Ok, so this recovers a bit. It turns into a nice fruity scent. Not as bad as other pomegranate on me, but still not really my jam. Really glad I got to try it though - I may not love it on it's own, but I don't think I need to avoid black pomegranate quite so much.

    The Spectral Flower Girl

Wet: WOW. That rose packs a punch. Its a really deep, rich, dark rose. It's a heady scent. The lily smells nothing like other lily I have smelled (often smells like wet cardboard on me, eew). This is such a dark, creepily beautiful scent. I don't think I have tried a rose scent I liked this much in years! There's something about it that is eerie and sexy at the same time. Dry: This is utterly gorgeous. Juicy, almost fruity rose with other lush dark florals (I honestly can't distinguish between the two other floral notes). This is one of those scents that seems so much more than the sum of its parts, and I think that's why/how it can, in fact, smell similar to Lucille. I thought whoahorsey had perhaps gone nuts. I assure you, she has not. They are similar. I will need a bottle. Or several....

    Lola Hair Gloss

OMG this is soooo good! I can't believe more people aren't raving about it!! It's for sure the same snow note as Snow White. Once it hits my hair, I can smell the perfumey pepper as well. It's a gorgeous combo, I have never smelled anything like it. Totally wishing I had more than a little 5ml of it now.

    Flor de Maga

I remember Googling what this floral ought to smell like when I first ordered it, but now I can't for the life of me remember what I figured it would be like. Too lazy to look again, so going in blind! Wet: Oh dear lord, why??? Ugh, that's so bad. Heady jasmine soap. That's what it smells like so far on me. Ugh, man I did a bad Google. ICK. Dry: I keep thinking "OMG what stinks?" and then realizing it's me. It doesn't smell exactly like jasmine, because there is no cat pee or feces happening here. But it's got that overly sweet, heady, sensual but also barfy thing happening. And it also smells like soap. Sexy barfy soap. It's like my brain is confused about how it feel about this. I think I don't want to wear confusing perfume, lol. It's a pass, for me. If you like jasmine though, this stuff is likely like crack.

    Thirteen (13): October 2017

This 13 is like a collection of some of my fave notes: cardamom, coffee, coconut, rum, benzoin, vanilla, sugar.....all notes I adore!! And the rest are ones I at least like, so obviously I had to give this a go. Wet: Mmm, this reminds me of a chocolate coffee liqueur. Yum. It's cozy, comforting - immediately a familiar scent. (Don't judge, everyone likes a spiked coffee once in a while.... ) Dry: Very nice! Soft chocolate, rum, hints of coconut. There's something comforting about it. I may already have too many chocolate scents, but I think I can make room for this one in my collection...

    Pumpkin Spice Everything

2017 version. I am not a fan of pumpkin spice things, truth be told, but I wanted to compare the base of Pumpkin Spice Everything to Pumpkin Spice Perversion and Cathedral which I really like, and PS Snake Oil which I have on the way. Wet: This does a pretty good, "autumn at Starbucks" impression at first. Then, as it dries, something weird happens. It has slowly transformed into.....cornbread?? Yes, spicy cornbread is what is happening on my skin. BLARG. Dry: The cornbread changed into a sort of muffin scent, so now this smells like a yummy pumpkin spice muffin. I like it! I just don't want to wear it. I want to eat it.

Dead Leaves, Pineapple, Patchouli, and Vetiver

Wet: Dead leaves at the forefront - a mix between the realistic dead leaves note I love and the cologney one I am not a fan of. Interesting. Then the patchouli comes through. It's dry and earthy. I can't detect a single bit of pineapple in this. NONE. This is a dark, somewhat masculine scent on me. Dry: This settles into an interesting cologne. I can finally detect a hint of pineapple. It's really a lovely scent, I think I would adore it on a man, I am just finding it's not something I want to wear personally. I do find it insane how that particular combo of notes can combine to make such a refined cologne....Beth's a genius.
