I am desperate for more dark plum scents, but I am so scared of the oudh! Lol. Wet: Mmm! Oh that's good. Dark, sexy wine and plum. A bit woody, but none of that horrid fecal smell that oudh often has on me. It almost smells like there is cocoa in this. Lovely! Dry: Faintly boozy generic "wood". Better than feces, but not something I would reach for. Too bad! It had so much potential when wet, but all the richness has gone and it's just a very faint wine and wood scent.

    Honey Snowballs

I adore honey, and there are several of the Lab's snow notes that I really like also (the one from Snow White and the one from Mat Night are my faves). I amp both snow and honey, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out! Wet: Mmmmmmmm. It's the snow note from Snow White. This kind of surprises me actually, as the whole "Frostbitten" line uses that note, and it makes me wonder why this wasn't "Frostbitten O"? That very much smells like what it could be. It's freaking gorgeous. Sexy, sticky, slightly floral honey with that gorgeous sweet snow note from Snow White (which always smells a wee bit like frozen coconut water to me. Love it!) There's a bit of a battle for dominance on my arm between the two components. Nose to skin, honey is winning. The throw is a lot of Snow White though! Dry: I was not expecting to love this SO MUCH but I really do. I will need a bottle. The Yules are killing me this year!! This is the perfect marriage between honey and Snow White. If you love both, give this a shot.

    Partridge in a Pear Tree

Wet: Ugh, how disappointing! I was stoked about this - in the vial it was all dark plum and musk, just what I have been wanting. On my skin, it's all about the lemon, with just a hint of VERY artificial smelling plum. My skin does love to turn certain fruits to plastic...this smells more like a plum and lemon candle though. Waxy, overly perfumey, and artificial. Thanks, skin. Dry: Blarg. Artificial lemon and plum soap. ICK. This is not for my skin chem! Too bad, the plum and musk I get in the vial are to die for.

    Canis Major

Something about this really called to me, I almost blind bottled it, but talked myself into a decant. Wet: Ooooh that's good! The "fur" translates to something akin to skin musk mixed with maybe a sugary brown musk on my skin. The hay is sweet and "clean" smelling. This is LOVELY so far. Something a bit suede-like about it also. Dry: I should have just bought a bottle. This is so so lovely. Reminds me a bit of Unicorn and Ram (I think?) with the soft, warm musk and suedey feel. The hay is beautiful - it's always a little spicy on my skin. I will need a bottle of this!

    Two Turtle Doves

Wet: TONS of red musk!! And sweet sticky opoponax, a really great combo. I get bits of lavender and dark inky musk too. It's a dark brooding, but also sexy scent. Dry: This goes through a phase where the lavender if quite prominent, but it fades back into the background and the red musk comes forward again. Red and black musks balanced, actually. The opoponax adds a sticky sweetness that I really like. The florals are just hints that soften the scent and make it sexily feminine. I REALLY like this. I have a LOT of red musk scents though, so I will have to carefully consider if I need a bottle of this....I don't think I could say no to a partial though....

    Orion

Wet: Mmmmm tobacco. It combines so well with the cedar. Those two notes are dominant initially, woody and sweet and chewy. Dry: I do like this quite a bit. The wood is slightly more prominent than the tobacco, but not by a lot. The leather comes through once dry also - soft, well-worn leather, the kind I really like. It's a very pleasant, woodsy-sweet skin scent. I can't decide if I need a bottle, or if I have enough scents similar to it. but it's really great if you like this type of scent (which I do - hence why I have others like it!)

    Spirit Board

2017 version: I did a cold sniff of a bunch of my Yule decants, trying to decide what to try first. This one called out to me way more than I would have expected! Wet: This is lovely! Something about the lilac with tea feels a bit like a fougere, but a feminine fougere, if that makes sense? I don't always like tea, it often goes really bitter on me. It is starting to do that here - hope the scent settles and recovers as it dries - I adore lilac. Dry: Sweet, pale, no-descript, perfumey floral. That likely doesn't sound nearly as appealing as it smells, but it is the best way I can describe it. Extremely classic and wearable. It smells refined, elegant. Very feminine. I think I am getting mostly sweet rose and lilac, with the tea as a base. I don't get any of the wood, but it does have some warmth to it. A lovely, classic fragrance. I will need to test it again before I make any decisions, as it was fresh out of the mail today.

    The Writing on the Slate

I am already wishing I had just blind-bottled this - beeswax is one of my very favourite comfort scents. Wet: GORGEOUS. The slight chalk and dust come through just a tiny bit, but it is mostly all sweet beeswax. Instant love. The dust sort of tickles me nose though, as it dries, and I hope that note doesn't amp up and ruin this on me! Dry: Glorious! The dust settles (ha ha) and the sweet beeswax comes back to the forefront. It's incredible. 2 bottle worthy! (WHY didn't I just blind bottle it??)

    Papier-Mâché Ghost

[No additional description provided.] Lately I have been branching out into different scent categories, and books/paper is one that I want to try more of. I got a decant of this thinking it would be papery, but now that I think about it, I am worried it will smell more like glue... Wet: Cucumber. That's..unexpected. Oh ok, a newsprint sort of smell is coming through. And something chemical. It's interesting. It smells more like...maybe a printing press? Like paper, but also machinery and oils/lubricants. And somebody's leftover cucumber sandwich. I don't really feel like this is working out for me. Dry: About the same - paper and chemicals with a hint of cucumber. Not my jam! But glad I got to try it. It does smell similar to The Manuscript from CP, if I remember right, so those who enjoy that type of scent might like this.

Murder for Murder, Blood for Blood

Wet: Chocolate, patchouli and feces (aka oudh). Nuff said. Dry: Ugh. Oudh. Poo. WHY???

    Midnight Bell

Wet: Sweet Myrrh and other resiny incensey smells. I do get faint hints of cool minerals. It's a really neat scent so far. I don't always love incense, especially when it's "head shoppy" but this is nice. Sweet and rich. Dry: For an incense scent, this doesn't last long on me. It fades away to a faint, sweet, skin scent. Long incense long burned out.

    Belonging to the Darkness II

Wet: LOTS of patchouli, which, in theory, I like, but in reality I seem to struggle with it on my skin. This is both chewy and sweet, and dry and woodsy, but that may be the combo with the juniper. Or maybe that's the vetiver I am smelling? This is interesting, and I am liking it more than I initially thought I would, but I do wish for more sweetness from the amber (I like fairly sweet scents). Dry: This surprisingly doesn't last very long on me. It remains a sweet, earthy, slightly chewy patchouli scent. I don't dislike it at all, but I don't really like it either. This was an impulse buy because I keep WANTING to love patchouli scents the way I think I should - I just don't. I am going to age it and see what happens.

    Petite Planchette

Wet: Tons of Frankincense. It's a really sweet, golden and honeyed Frank though, and I like it so far. As others have said, this is a golden scent. Dry: Far too much Frankincense for me. *sigh*. I don't know why I keep trying, I need accept that Frank and I just don't get along (except the odd time where we do, which makes me keep trying.....) I am going to age this and see what happens.

    The Beldam

This oil is very thick, dark golden yellow in colour, and I can tell just from opening the bottle it's going to be gloriously resinous... Wet: Oh yeah, resins galore! I get that "slightly cola" aspect that makes me think there is some opoponax or maybe laudanum lurking in this. It's rich and sweet. Tiny hints of wood. Something just a wee bit incensey. This is dark, mysterious, compelling. Dry: This grows in complexity (and sheer gorgeousness) as it dries and warm on my skin. Primarily resins with a hint of wood, I think I also detect some sort of dark fruit brightening things up. I don't think cherry - maybe a very dark plum? Either way, this is stunning. I adore it, and am so happy to have snagged a bottle. A special scent for sure, and not just because I am obsessed with Gaiman. I really wish they had been able to add this one to the Coraline line, it's truly special.

    Hermia

I am in love with all of the notes in this, except passion flower - I don't know what that smells like. Still, I have very high hopes! Was so excited to get to swap for a bottle of this! Wet: OMG that pink pepper!! It always smells so sophisticated and expensive to me. I was right in thinking this would be lovely. I don't get much honeysuckle yet, which is a little sad because it's my current fave floral. Currently this is all about that bright spicy pink peppercorn. I think I am maybe getting the passionflower too - it also smells bright, but slightly citrusy. It lifts the blend even more. This really is so lovely - feminine, refined, elegant and uplifting. Dry: This only gets better as it dries and warm on my skin. The pink pepper is perfumey and perfect. It's the star of the scent, on me. The florals back it up beautifully and the amber lends sweetness and warmth. Simply gorgeous. I will love wearing this in Spring and Summer, maybe even Winter also. This is a truly special scent on me.

    Honey and Beeswax scents

I am a beeswax freak. (I also have and love Flickering Lantern and Lights of Men's Lives, but still buy any other beeswax scent I can get my paws on). I blind-bottled HH and am really glad I did. The beeswax, on my skin, is dead even with this BEAUTIFUL olive note, that reads on me more like olive blossom than oil. It's quietly stunning. I am considering a back-up. Sorry...? OR you could pretend I never said that, and go with this instead - It's horrible, you don't want any. So is the olive note here is definitely different in the one in Chanukah, Lizzie (if you have both)? Also, did you all see reviews for Writing on the Slate? It looks pro ising for us beeswax addicts. I basically snatch up anything with that note as well. It is a note that ages well. I haven't tried Chanukkiyah in years. Apparently I didn't even review it, though I know from my notes I tried it. My notes say I didn't like it, but not why - I am assuming the pomegranate though, it's usually pretty terrible on me. So I couldn't say about the olive note. The reason I thought it was more like an olive blossom note was my recent purchase of My Little Themysciran Princess - there's a gorgeous note in there that I think is the olive blossom, and HH reminded me of that mixed with beeswax. I didn't do a side by side though, so I could be crazy.

  19. Haven't tried my Petite Planchette yet, waiting for it to settle a bit more but Mini Mag is a serious favourite, so I would not be mad if you're right! I will so a side by side at some point.

    Lilith's Kwamie Cotton

Wet: Strawberry? :blinkblink: What is happening? This smells like Loli Dragon. I wonder if bottles got mislabelled? I was totally expecting cotton of some sort.... OK, it's morphing. Getting a bit of clean dryer-sheet aquatic, mixed with plasticy fruity candy. Tiny hints of DB. Interesting. Smells much less like Loli Dragon now, but totally in the same vein. Dry: The Dragon's Blood in this is VERY floral to me, and just a touch spicy. It gets high pitched and dominates the scent on me, along with ad odd sort of aquatic note, and that artificial candy thing. This is totally a skin chem fail on me, boo! I was so excited for it too. Oh well, on to someone who's skin will let them love it better.

    Reflected Vulva

Love sweet pea, sometimes like cream, not sold on cherry blossom. This is pretty iffy, but I have loved several of the Vulvas, so I wanted to at least try it. Wet: Oooh! Pretty. The sweet pea and cherry blossom come off almost candy sweet. The cream hasn't gone plastic OR burnt OR sour yet. It's kind of floral perfection. There's a bit of watery greenness to it that is utterly charming. It smells like a mix between real, fresh blooms with dew on them, and candied flower petals. LOVELY. Dry: This is really so pretty. Simple, elegant, classy. Very...womanly. I expected girly, but this is more refined than that. The notes all sing beautifully together - the clean is more of a "clean" cream to me, if that makes sense - like in Boo. It's beautiful and I am glad I took a chance on it. Now I only have one more Vulva to try...

    Krampus Lace

I love every single note in this - leather can be iffy, but when it's good on me, it's goooood. Wet: Red musk and honey-forward. Hey, fine by me! It's sweet, and I am getting just a hint of spice from the pink pepper. It has that "lace" thing of tobacco-vanilla-cognac going on. It's quite nice, but so far it is totally not knocking my socks of like I expected it too. Maybe it needs some aging? Very peppery, right now. Dry: This very quickly morphs into something gorgeous. It goes through many phases, all of them really good. It finally dries down to a honey/red musk/leather sexy scent that I am pretty happy with. It's for sure a keeper!

    Children of the Cornucopia

Hay and tobacco are my JAM but patch not always, so I am only cautiously optimistic about this. Wet: (OMG the label art, I totally only just noticed right now...ha ha ha ha, Beth kills me. The Children of the Corn are on the label....) Mmm this is nice. I love the tobacco in it, it's very chewy and rich. The hay is gorgeous. That patch though - I dunno about it. It's very dry and earthy, and I am left feeling like the whole blend lacks sweetness. I want it to be sweeter. The throw is better than nose to skin. Dry: OK, so this goes through a phase where is smells like stanky marijuana and I hate it, but then it settles into a gorgeous hay scent with just hints of sweet tobacco and earthy patchouli. I dig it. I adore hay. I think some age will really do this good, so I am tucking it away to wear next fall.

    Frostbitten Dorian

So excited to try this! I love Dorian. I love Snow White (and I can tell from sniffing in the bottle this is the Snow White snow note). This should be a favourite! Wet: OMFG this is gorgeous. It really is exactly like I expected. That glorious Dorian fougere, with the frozen-coconut-water type snow note from Snow White (that's what it always smells like to me at least). It's beautiful and I could bathe in it. Both Dorian and Snow White are comforting scents to me - this soothes my soul. PERFECTION. Hoard worthy. Oh wait. I mean, you don't want any. Here, I'll dispose of yours for you.... Dry: This comes out very Dorian dominant (which I find interesting, as the Snow White dominated with Snake Oil). I am sure all those missing Dorian will rejoice to get to have this! I will be seriously thinking about getting a back-up, as this is really an awesome combo - Dorian with just a hint of bright chilly Snow White. Heaven!

    Frostbitten Snake Oil

I love Snow White. I love Snake Oil. I can't, for the life of me, imagine them going well together. But here we are, and we're doing this anyway (blind bottle, no less!! What can I say, I am a rebel) Wet: Mmm! Hmm. That's interesting! The Snake Oil wins. There are just faint tinges of Snow White so far. It's interesting, Snow White on it's own smells nothing like almond to me - I get frozen coconut water and florals. In this - I see why people get almond! This smells like Snake Oil and frozen almond milk. Interesting! Man, it needs some age though. Whoa. I forgot how much Snake Oil needs a few months before it's good on me. This has some pretty rough edges. Boy does it have promise though. It's going to be gooooood. Dry: The Snow White actually wins, once this settles, but the Snake Oil is still a strong presence. It's lovely. I could not imagine what these two scents would smell like together, and it's still hard to describe, but it's fantastic and I will have to restrain myself from buying a back-up.
