    Queen Alice

In the imp: Carnation, cider and wine (which scares me since wine usually goes very sour on me). Applied: Spicy carnations, appley cider and a warm glowing amber, just a touch of something smoky too (could that be the wine?). Drydown: Mainly amber and gorgeous spicy carnations. However if I inhale too deeply I get a bit of cigarette . I'm pretty sure that is a skin chemistry issue. I think this is one for me to try in my locket. Verdict: Very much a grown up version of Alice. I do think I prefer Alice though with its cream note and brighter sweeter feel.

    F5

This is so fresh and crisp, a terrific hot weather scent. The lime in particular really sands away from my skin. It actually reminds me quite a bit of Envy but without the floral/herbal note. I'm going to have to make the wee imp I was gifted with last:)

    The Raven

In the imp: Chopard's Violet Mints! When first applied: Smells strongly of violet softened by musk. The scent of dark feathers. Drydown: As it dries down I can smell the sandalwood along with the violet and musk. The neroli and iris never seem to come out on me in this blend. Verdict: This is a perfect true violet scent (one of my favorites). It is rich and deep without even the slightest hint of old ladyishness.

    The Red Queen

In the imp: The wood and cherry mingle together into what smells like cherry pipe tobacco to me. Wet: The woods are a bit more subdued and the cherry and currant a bit fruitier. Dry down: Surprisingly the woods really mellow the cherry into something quite wearable. Usually cherry goes sticky sweet and a bit plastic on me. Here it is more a supporting player adding some sweetness to the dark woods. It remains a bit tobacco-ish but I don't mind, it has sort of a classy androgynous vibe. A good scent for hanging out shooting pool with the boys;)

    Singing Moon

This is very nice a fresh, ocean scent. Touches of green, a bit of astringent lavender, salty air and wave splashed rocks. It reminds me of Selkie but where Selkie is the summer sea this scent is beyond a doubt autumn. Amazingly among the aquatics there is a pronounced burning note representing those distant fires. It never ceases to amaze me the vivid pictures Beth is able to paint with scent.

    Utrennyaya

Soft floral blushing in the morning light. The rose, violet and delphinium make a lovely bouquet while the jolt of mint wakes me up. As it dries down I start to get a bit of the sandalwood's creaminess and the mint fades to just a slight breath of freshness. The florals really linger, especially the rose and something a bit sweeter that I think may be the osmanthus. Wonderfully evocative. I only have 2 of the Zorya but I think I will need to try the evening sister to see how the set rounds out.

    Zorya

This is just such a perfect combination of florals; the delicate cereus and primrose, heady jasmine and the slightly spicy/smoky iris. The musk gives it an airy feel. The spices are very subtle, just a slight waft in the night air, to make it feel exotic. Overall very refined. She is a beauty but a loft one.

    Zephyr

This is a very light and delicate scent. When I first applied I could barely smell it. It seems to build as it warms up. First I could smell the airy musks and slowly the citrus came into play leaving a fresh crisp lemon scented breeze.

    Snake Oil

The imp I'm revewing from is about a year old...nice and thick. It went on pretty yellow so I had to rub it in to my skin. From start to finish it is a glorious cloud of spiced and sugared bourbon vanilla. Intoxicating and sexy but in a sophisticated way...this is a thinking person's kind of sexy. The woman who wears this isn't necessarily the prettiest in the room but she is the one noone can take their eyes off. I really should get a bottle to age so it is ready when my imp is gone.

    Lilium Inter Spinas

In the imp: Lilies with a strong green note. On the skin: It is a very soft floral. There is the greeness of the fig and the creamy sandalwood to make it special though. The sandalwood in particular stands out at quite a distance. Drydown: Very soft, cool and ladylike. It puts me in mind of spring. The lily of the valley is quite long lasting too.

    Bathsheba

This is just perfect on me. The plum is ripe and rich without the sweetness that I find to be too much from many fruits. The carnation brings a touch of spice and a bit of freshness without being floral. The Arabian musk is deep and soft without being musty in the slightest. The longer it dries down the more pronounced my beloved carnation becomes:) In short all the notes show all of their best characteristics and none of their possible pitfalls. Usually "sexy" blends don't feel like me even if they smell good on my skin chemistry. Bathesheba has all the sultriness of Mme. Moriarty but in a softer way that is more me. I could easily see purchasing a bottle of this when the imp is gone.

    Osun

In the imp I smell herbs, honey and something a bit cloying, maybe cherry. I feel like I rember it from King of Hearts. Once applied the honey is is rich and sweet and very much the top note. The herbs are almost non-existant on my skin at this point and the fruitiness is very slight. What ever offerings of fruit have been left for Osun are drenched in honey. In the drydown this is just a glorious honey with a touch of fresh herbs (for some reason I want to say thyme). It has a nice throw but still some how smells like my skin but better very alluring. Sent to me by a friend when I was pining for honey after reading the Mead Moon update...this really filled the bill...a bottle may be in my future.

    Vampire Tears

In the imp: fresh green tea and sharp grapefruit Applied: Strong grapefruit and something bakery-ish like vanilla, the tonka I suppose. Something isn't agreeing with my skin chemistry...I get whiffs of something soapy and something burned. I'm gonna go wash this one off. Pity it has a number of notes I love but the combo doesn't work on me.

    Versailles

This one really delivers. I first notice the extravagant bouquets of roses and iris, jasmine and amber from the perfumes out the courtiers mingle in the air. Then I notice golden bowls heaped with costly lemons and oranges from far away lands. It feel like everything that is rich and desirable rolled into one. Amber really lasts on me and helps the other notes to linger but it does become more resinous as time goes on with a single rose tucked into my hair.

    Cheshire Cat

The lavender and chamomile soothe you...the grapefruit is a little too cheerful...the musk is a bit sinister lurking underneath. I'm guessing it us the currant rounds out the fruitiness manking it more juicy than sour. This a sweet fruity grapefruit...it feels like it has sugar on top. I'm liking the grapefruit in this one much better than Baobhan Sith. I'm very attracted to it and can't stop sniffing my arm!

    Black Cat

In the imp, a soft slightly herbal rose. Once applied it seems like a powdery musk comes into play along with the rose and a dried crushed herb of some sort. After not to long it fades to a pale soft rose. It is a cheerful scent and I do find that I reach for it on days I need a little luck because someone is likely to give me trouble. Maybe it is my attitude, maybe it is the oil but it does seem to work

    Baobhan Sith

In the imp: Tart grapefruit sweetened with appleblossoms On the skin: Similar but with a slight spark of ginger. I'm still not getting the tea at this stage. The grapefruit really wafts out far from my skin...arms length away it is still quite noticeable. Drydown: There is something else there now...I can't quite describe it just a tiny bit bitter contrasting with the apple blossom sweetness. It is beautiful on the surface but that lurking bitterness is off putting to me.

    Ave Maria Gratia Plena

With the imp still closed I get a lovely waft of jasmine. Opened I smell the woods and a touch of the sage. On my skin it continues to become more complex...there is the tart note of lemon and a powdery musk tempering the sweet jasmine. As it continues to dry there is a fresh breath of lily. A gentle, angelic scent...fragile and beautiful.

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

In the imp I smell bubble gum and roses. Once applied under the fruity/candy sweetness there is something more substantial...maybe a touch of sandalwood? ...a hint of spice? Pretty quickly it fades to nothing but a creamy sweetness and just a lingering bit of rose. It never fails to bring a smile to my face though since the critter I adopted is Aunt Caroline and the scent makes me think of her bright pink face:)

    Arcana

In the imp: A lovely fresh herbal scent touched with lavender. On my skin: Mostly rosemary and verbena. The scent is crisp and cheerful. Gathered herbs drying in the sun. Drydown: Neroli begins to make an apearence but even with the lemony verbena the scent remains more green herbal than citrusy. The lavender begins to reappear but it is just a whisper among the other notes. Peaceful and relaxing. The magic here is that of a wise woman and her snug cottage full of helpful remedies.

    Port Royal

In the imp, spices and wood and what might be patchouli. On my skin the scent of the sea air magically blossoms including the hint of salt. I feel like there is a bit of some ambery perfume as well and the spices are still present. The drydown is still slightly spiced and retains that impression of salty air and a base of sun-warmed wood. The spice has a sweet edge to it like allspice...maybe a touch of clove. Absolutely gorgeous. I really hadn't expected this to work on me...I gave away my first imp untried...but when a second came to me I though what the heck. I'm glad I did.

    Bewitched

The blackberry note is very juicy and realistic, similar to the one in I like in Glasgow, but this is a much more complex blend. The green tea is a fresh edge while the sage is a strong herbal note to balance the sweet berries. The musk gives it some depth and darkness...these berry bushes grow at the edge of a deep mysterious woods. After it dries down the sage is still very pronounced along with a woody note...bewitching indeed.

    Glasgow

This is a very straightforward blend to me...blackberries and heather. It is pretty and evocative. Nice for when I don't want to think to hard...usually I like something with a bit more challenge to it. It wears close to the skin and fades fairly quickly.

    Shanghai

In the imp it is a wonderful green iced tea sweetened with honey. Once applied I get mostly the verbena with just a touch of the green tea. The honeysuckle is there too lending sweetness but it isn't the heady note it usually is for me Verdict...fresh and sweet...nice for summer

    Pontarlier

In the imp, rose and lilac with a bright green note of fern. I imagine a lovely bouquet. I think the roses are pink. On my skin the green note intensifies along with a dry woody smell I assume is wormwood. The sugar note I love in Pink Moon is there too. The florals are still there but very softly. The bouquet has been left in the other room. The dry down is a lovely lavender but still with that ferny green note and just a touch of tea rose. Deep underneath I still get a whiff of absinthe too. The black current never made an appearance. Overall I love this. It has so many things going on, fresh, floral, green, airy...yet there is a sophistication too due to the bitter wormwood and sugar.
