  1. I'd actually recommend getting them now, or getting aged decants/bottles - it really has made quite a difference for many of my snakes. ETA: Because you don't want to fall in love with an aged snake that has become unobtainable!

What do bottles and labels look like?

Thanks for the link! I adore Pirate Moon. I wonder if the Phoenix will have the same flag or a Phoenix or a ship or something entirely different.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

All of my friends and I pronounce it like that when we talk to each other.

    Tamora

Overall Tamora is a very well blended scent. It's a sweet, round, bright, warm scent, with the peach and sandalwood dominant. It has a medium to high level of throw and lasts pretty well. It gets less and less sweet the longer you wear it. Wearing it makes me feel confident and powerful, but still relaxed and able to have fun. When I wore Tamora to a party last week I received multiple compliments. When I first tried this I remember it was a bit sweet. When I came back to it a bit over 6 months later, the sandalwood has strengthened and balances the sweetness more. I'm not usually a fan of sweet scents, but I like Tamora (now that she's aged) enough to get a bottle.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

Thanks for that input! I have another question about this same bottle of Kunstkammer, which has to do with what appears to be the oils separating (the top layer is not quite as milky as the bottom layer). Is this still not something I should be concerned about? I have searched for this, but I didn't find any other mention of this occurring. Does it recombine when you roll the bottle? If I does, I wouldn't be too worried - just remember to roll your bottle before applying. I know there's some oils that come straight from the lab seperated a bit (like anything with cocoa absolute).

    Come to Me

Initally, this is a clean soapy smell, with a hint of green, perhaps, and little throw. I wouldn't wear it for the scent, although after it's been on for a few hours it melts into a clinging soft skin scent - it smells like me, but better, and very faintly like the smell you get before it rains. As for its effect, I can't say, because my going out plans got disrupted and I ended up staying home. I'll update next time I get a chance to try it out.

What do bottles and labels look like?

I saw the pic of Schrodinger's Cat and went 'ohhhhhhhh' as I was overcome by a wave of desire. I want it! How perfect and cute. I am tempted to get a bottle without waiting for a imp, just to get the label.
  8. On me SM goes sort of cola-ish and the only other BPAL that does a similar thing is Dragons Bone. They're not exactly alike or anything, but if you were willing to layer, I think Dragons Bone would be a good component. Oddly enough, on my skin, I found The Music of Erich Zahn to be very similar to SM. The only difference on me was the tamarind note which adds a slight bit of tart/sweetness to Erich Zahn- I have had my bottle since it came out (almost a year??) and the resins have gotten a bit deeper and the tamarind has backed down a bit. It's very lovely :nods: Thanks so much Euterpe414! I will make it a priority to track that one down. I haven't tried Schwarzer Mond, but I have tried Minotaur and it went cola-ish as well, and I think quite a few people were comparing it to SM.

    TKO

This is a very soft, fluffy scent. In the vial it smells of vanilla and lavender. I thought I smelt some mint, but I think that was just my nose getting used to the combination of vanilla and lavender together, which was unexpected. After I smelled it a few times though I got used to it. The vanilla is stronger on me, and lasts longer. Sometimes I get a lot of throw, sometimes very little, and I could still catch wafts of it the next morning. As for whether it put me to sleep or not, the jury is still out - I'll have to try it a few more times.

    Typical time...

Approximately how much of a difference does it make? I'm about to send through my first order, and I have close to $150 in bottles alone, so it would only cost an extra $2 shipping to put the bottles in one order and the imps in a second order ($13 vs $11). Will that make a difference of, say, a week or more? I'd happily pay an extra couple bucks to get my bottles faster. Honestly, I can't remember exactly - and of course being international doesn't help. It may make no difference at all, especially since the turn around time is so fast now. The reason it might slow things down is (if I remember correctly, and please correct me if I'm not) that if something isn't already mixed up, you might have to wait for a new lot to be made up (and because imps are so small the lab waits until they get a few orders to blend the oil? This part I'm even more hazy on.) You might like to make two orders anyway, since that would lead to added excitment with packages - although then you might get them both on the same day! Edit: A quick check of my records indicates that (incl. international shipping, which slows things down!) the last big group order that I ran in July of 6 imp packs and 5 bottles took 16 days from order to delivery. We got the cns 10 days after ordering. My previous big order in Febuary took a lot longer, but I don't have the exact dates since I wasn't organising that one. Edit again: The Feb order was made around the 3rd, and got delivered on the 21st of March. There was a massive reduction in the TAT midway through the year, and now it's a lot faster! Go labbies!

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Chimera, perhaps? No vanilla listed, but it's a spicy yummy vanilla on me.

Hunting for the ultimate _____ blend

If I remember correctly, cinnamon. There's a thread with more info here somewhere, but I can't remember what it was called! Sorry. You could probably also find a list via google, if I remember correctly.

    Villain

I really loved the smell of this in the vial - predominantly lavender, with hints of lime and lilac adding depth. But on my skin it pretty much disappeared, until I slathered it on. Then it mostly disappeared, but I got lavender which threatened to go soapy, and later the soap turns into a faintly dusty musk. Very disappointing after such a lovely start! Definetly one for a scent locket.

What do bottles and labels look like?

Ooh, Hunter Moon is green. It almost makes me wish I went with the green shirt so it matches, but I love the colours in the design on the brown. Thanks for posting!

    Mercury

This was a very odd experiance for me - I couldn't really distinguish individual notes (although I'm pretty sure I picked up lavender and cinnamon) and I couldn't decide whether it blended or clashed. It was creamy, but with sharp overtones. I didn't really like the smell, yet it was compelling and I had to keep sniffing my wrists. I'm certaintly glad I got to try it, even though I'm leaning towards swapping it away.

Hunting for the ultimate _____ blend

Really? On me it's predominately leather and snake oil, backed by what I think is the sage.

    Thirteen (13): July 2007

I was really looking forward to this! I was expecting heavy chocolate with hints of sweet and fruit. I like it, but that wasn't quite what I got. In the bottle: A wave of sweet fruit (peach and starfuit, and maybe something else?), followed by chocolate. Some people reported a layer of cocoa at the bottom, but my bottle doesn't have that. On me, wet: Surprisingly fruitly. At first a wave of chocolate, with the same sweet fruity throw, tending more and more to fruity. No clove (thankfully) and if the other notes are there they aren't standing out. It's really nice, with wafts of scent coming off my wrist and making me sniff deeply and smile. On me, dry: Slightly more vanilla bean, ginger and massoia bark (I'm guessing this is the light coconut smell), but the fruity smell predominates. Pretty much no chocolate (this happened to me with the Oct 06 13 too, so I wear it layered with Velvet). On me, later: Sweet and fruity, pretty faint. No chocolate. Not nearly as nice as it was in the bottle and wet - when I get my scent locket I shall wear it in that.

    Vanilla Bean

This is a lot less smooth than I was expecting. In the imp it's slightly alchoholic (that's the best description I can come up with!). On the skin it's slighly smoky and slightly plasticy vanilla. Strong, not soft and fluffy. Very little throw, amazingly enough, since when I wear vanilla scents I get heaps of vanilla throw. The longer I wear it, the softer and sweeter it gets, and more straight vanilla. ETA: I'm coming back to this over a year later with more thoughts. Firstly, Beth uses a couple of different vanillas in her blends. This is the vanilla that's in Snake Oil. Like that vanilla, it gets stronger and richer after a couple of hours and stays that way. It's very strong, warm, sweet smell. It's almost a little too one dimensional - for regular wear, I'd want to have some other notes to spice things up a little. It would be nice if I wanted to boost the vanilla in something if I were on a vanilla kick that day.

I'd love a BPAL that smells like the smell you get before it rains, but so far no luck, since ozone goes to hairspray on me.

    shipping confirmation emails

I would guess that the order numbers are different as the CCNow one is the order from CCNow to the lab and the USPS number is the number of the order from the lab to the post - they're different numbers because they're different companies. But I'm international, so I'm not sure, sorry!

The search for "Clean" scents - general discussion

Embalming Fluid! White musk, green tea, aloe and lemon. On me it's mainly lemon and white musk, with added compliments. Edited to get the note order right.

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

On me this was really sweet and reminded me of bubblegum - not something I particularly care to smell like! So I frimped it along to someone else.
