Brings a rush of good luck, lifts the spirit, and helps alleviate depression. out of the bottle: this is a very round, rich, full warm ginger-peach-slight apricot-spicy-musky-herby soft scent. heavy on a vanilla-y richness, though its really hard to pick out any specific notes, just a general feeling.. upon wearing: whoa its pretty strong! just a mini daub will do ya! it retained all of the same scent that it had in the bottle, deepened and softened ever so slightly. i know ive smelled some part of this smell in the carribbean, something musky and soft about it. so its a lovely soft perfume one could wear even in hot weather! but - and perhaps more importantly as this is a Voodoo Oil after all - these are all of the things that have happened since i started to wear it (late last night, reapplied this morning) *i feel happy! and honestly rather carefee! and had been feeling so schlumpy for the last week due to allergies! *my cat, who is not normally cuddly with me ever, would not leave me alone, trying to lick where i had daubed the Has No Hanna, purring, cuddling, and even slept on the bed cuddling next to me! this has NEVER happened before! *me and my boyfriend been looking for a couch for weeks now, despairing that there was nothing we liked that we could afford and about ready to sadly go the ikea route but then - this morning got a call from a friend who knew someone who had a couch they wanted to get rid of. went to look at it, its a totally beautiful vintage danish teak living room set (im freaking out!) from the estate of Ross Hunter (producer of early Rock Hudson and Doris Day films) and it was a steal! and now its in our living room right now! *discovered a new restaurant near our house that we had oddly never seen before and had the most delicious lunch ever! at about this time the oil has worn off, but what a fab day, let me tell you, this voodoo works!!!!

Based on a venerable French pontifical incense blend: monastic frankincense and myrrh, Damascus rose, Russian gardenia, cassia, and lily of the valley wafting on a chill Autumn wind. A celebration of the glory and suffering of the saints and matryrs of the Church. I tottered over to Black Broom to get this lovely - so glad i did! Bear with me, I really cant figure out why i love this so much, but it is really comforting and delicious! out of the bottle - smells just like Harvest Moon when you put it on - the part where it deepens into chocolatey dark corny bread. uhoh, i am hoping this isnt a mislabel! but its definately different from Harvest Moon out of the bottle, darker, softer. upon wearing - de - li - ci -ous!!!!! Its very dark and soft, i cant pick out any particular notes just see in my mind dark wood moulding, marble floor, woolen suits and maybe a little tobacco drydown - It gets a little lighter, like the florals are making a last desperate attempt to push their way through the dark softness, but then settles into a lovely softness, much like velvet but darker and smoother and lighter (is that possible! yes it is!). It has lasted a really long time on me, i put it on like 4 hours ago and i still can a sniffasniff.... This is my FAVORITE oil to date. I cannot stop sniffing my wrist in the most obsessive way! I also must state that this smells NOTHING like what i thought it would from the description!! I didnt immediatly order this when the LEs were announced because i was a little scared of the rose and gardenia aspect of All Saints - I have been having bad luck with florals lately - but whatever the "Autumn Chill" is seems like what helps it mix into something so indescibably formal, delicious and comforting! I wish it was cooler here, this is what i want my turtleneck sweaters to smell like, and makes me want to wear my glasses and a bun in my hair. In a sexy librarian way, of course! edited to add: i wore it again today and its less foody, more resinous, im feeling the church thing a lot more now. I realized that it reminds me exactly of that Claire McCardell Monastic dress, brown jersey with a hood from the 40's, severe and sexy but tres formal. Still hard to pick out any notes. Still feels lovely formal and soft, and yes, monastic.

The Autumnal Equinox. The Second Harvest of the witches: a celebration of rest after labor, and repose after the rigors of Initiation. This is the mark of the completion of the Harvest and giving thanks for the previous season's abundance. In ceremonial magick, this is a time to begin the search for one's Higher Self anew, to celebrate rebirth and new life, and to revitalize the spirit. It is an Osirian time, contractive and catabolic. At this time, the Eleusinian mysteries were observed, celebrating the drama of Kore and Demeter. Blackberry wine and apple cider with hops, apple blossom, English ivy, hazel, sage, oak bark and myrrh. out of the bottle: its so weird, i get cherry sucrets! i really dont like cherry cough drops so i am sad and confused, but will push on and slather myself with it. Theres a real high menthol thing going on, tickley and bright. wet on skin: it still smells cough droppy but less cherry, this is good. This is a really complex oil, im having a really hard time picking out notes or even generalities - the high bubbly smell is still there (maybe its the apple cider or hazel) which i really like, its cutting through this smoggy day and alliveiating my headache!! medicinal applilcation!! dry: minty apple bubbly sage. for an hour now! an hour later: apple sage. yum yum. I think that this is the most confusing oil ive tried yet - its nothing at all like i thought it would be, i dont really smell most of the notes mentioned in the description, but i do like it and it got me out of a pollution-induced headache. It does revitalize the spirit though - i feel like its a big kick in the pants and isnt that what Mabon is about anyways???

The autumnal blooms of clematis, chrysanthemum, narcissus, sunflower, sage and lily twined with Dionysus' sacred grapes and ivy, a bounty of apple, pumpkin, and ripe berries, and the amaranth and lingum aloes of Janus, all touched by a gentle breath of festival woodsmoke and sweet wine. Out of the bottle - smells so DELICIOUS! I want to EAT it!! like cornbread, candy corn, corn on the cob, corn of all sorts! browns, oranges, reds, pumpkin, chocolate, heavy, brown, dried leaves...sort of like gluttony without the sharp hazelnut edge. wet on skin - still retains the heavy sort of foody feeling, mellowing even more (a deeper dark brown warm lovely fall night..more corn less pumpkin) dry - whoa! 10 minutes later its made a swift change, where it was deep and brown and full and heavy in the sky its now become soft, like after a big lovely heavy fall feast you have the pumpkin pie dessert and then are hanging out in the garden - the wine and flowers have taken over and are so light and lovely. I really smell the ivy and narcissus - it smells like night blooming flowers too. but very very very light - its like its saying goodbye.... Its hung onto these last light lovely notes for an hour now - Harvest Moon is one of the most dynamic shape-shifting oils ive experienced - i think that i might use it more as a room fragrance than on my skin (love at first sniff out of the bottle!) but this is a keeper!!!! eta: that ive been wearing it every day and night since i got it, i love every aspect of this oil!! ADDED Sept. 28: another review - of Harvest Moon as a room scent! I put about 3-4 drops in with some water and dried crumbled leaves in a pot pourri warmer and it started out with the high flowery notes but now a half an hour later it has settled back into the first foody corn-y deliciousness! It went backwards!! EDIT: Copied the addition from a followup post. --Shollin

well, im one of those people upon whom amber goes funky.
-
Hetairae for me is O without the funk. i dont know what it lacks from O but it smells identical wet upon application and where O goes - oh no!! funkytown - Hetairae seems to make a quick detour thru craft store and then back to a delightful honeyed musk for me.

out of the bottle and wet its coffee rio candies! irish creme! kaluha - you get the picture! its so buttery cremey insanely sweet coffee that i want to go to the magical cafe where they serve this drink, iced! upon drydown, Miskatonic U becomes a very dry dusty grog, which i love - but its not going to get much action this summer because its such a perfect FALL scent that ill save it for then!
-
i recieved Milk Moon today - the same day my best friend gave birth to a beautiful little girl! its everything everyone has described and i totally agree with the "fertile, biological"-ness of the dairy scent - its not quite fermented to me, but it is alive as opposed to a baked good, soft, but not really foody to me - the aliveness and biologicalness of the scent stands out to me. im going to bring some to my lovely lady right now! edited to add: dry down hours later is soft delicious cocoa powder!
-
i have no mint! none at any stage at all! i have a heavy cedar sugar scent that is making my teeth hurt really bad. powdery in a not good for me way i was so hoping juke joint was going to be my summer scent - something refreshing and light. my imp is so dark and powdery it hurts...

i thought i reviewed this already - i had first tested Graveyard Dirt at Black Broom - im pretty sure it was the magickal variety - and all i know is that it put me right into the earth, enveloped, soft warm and moist earth. i fell in love but then found out that they had none at the store and would probably not get any more..... then i freaked out and got myself a bottle when it came out as a LE - i have to say that out of the bottle its not as deep as i remember the sample at Black Broom, but still its soft fresh tilled earth. upon wearing it lightens up and softens even more - it actually reminds me alot alot of lush's spice mountain soap, with more clove and root beer and dirt thrown in. yum my!
-
my nose is attached to my wrist in insane sniffing - Black Forest is the deepest softest forest with a mulch of pine needles and soft earth with the slightist marine tinge - its a bit stronger but the exact smell of the peppermint sweetness of the air in the Santa Cruz mountains - when i would come home on a foggy day and step off the bus into the forest this is the sweet deliciousness i would take lungfulls of. i think diluted in jojoba this will be exact.
-
Kether is the smell of my baby nephews head. almond, honey, barest of floral, sweet and light. edited to add: 5 hours later the spicyness comes out - still sweet but a little spicy like ginger.
-
out of the vial wet Moxie smells like an insane screaming creamsicle with a layer or darker spices behind it. upon wearing *everything* intensified, the orange became syrupy sweet in the most delicious way possible , the spices turned into...uh oh. its the same wet, deep pepper undercurrent that made alecto smell like bologna to me. i will never wear this scent again (if i can wash it off, that pepper note is stuck on my skin), but as a quick pick me up out of the vial only, whew! its a pants kicker!

im very surpised by how much i have fallen in love with Belle Epoque in the last 15 minutes. at first swipe, it smelled to me very much like a sweet heady jasmine which is not my favorite (i think this was the overall sweet mix of the elements, nothing sticking out) and upon wearing its expanded to a vanilla/sandlewood base and sharp opium/soft lily-of-the-valley mid-top notes - this is what my brain thinks it looks like. when i sniff my wrists i realize im playing "find the lily-of-the-valley" and then i find it and its very satisfying. its so delightfully old fashioned, exciting, sharp, frilly, coy- :D

i can't believe that i havent written a review of Snow White yet! I love love love snow white but every time i wore it it reminded me of *someone* else. i dont know who, but it just never gelled with my skin to feel like it was something that i was wearing. soft and sweet, with a little coconut behind it, but like someone i know, something i know...so i never ever wore it, just sniffed from time to time..... today i decided to wear it as i was baking anise lemon honey biscotti and oh geez, with this context i am suddenly *wearing* it! i dont know if its the ingredients or what but its such a perfect complement to the spicy cookies i made! i also dont get the cold sense from Snow White - on me is a warm dry coconut rum laced macaroon with a dry scent of wind along a sunny beach - baking cookies on the beach with enough something floral to keep it not foody. yay! im so glad i kept this bottle!!!!!

Dorian dries and lasts for hours as Honey Lemon Iced Tea. This is going to be my summertime 2005 scent!!!!!

White Rabbit for me is a lighter, more wearable Baobhan Sith for me. I loved loved Baobhan Sith but there is an element in it that really irritated my sinuses - and White Rabbit seems to have the same sort of gingery/floral scent but without the high citrus tang that made my eyes water so sadly!!!!! out of the vial it has that lemony tea scent - and upon application it becomes a rose scent that reminds me of Alice without the spicy carnation - and then the honey and vanilla take over and its so delectable! I dont ever get the warm milk part but it does evolve into a soft beautiful non-powdery ginger tinged floral tea - and then the floral part fades a bit and it stays on for hours as the scent of light creamy milk chocolate tinged with ginger.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
red wine red wine red wine heady rich back of the mouth taste of red wine. it started out a lot like honey+coffee+amber+chocolate but then quickly turned to red wine and has stayed as wine for over an hour now! Its making me salivate! I dont know if it is something i would wear often but, hmmm, its so exactly red wine its amazing!
-
everything clover said plus i think i detect some eucalyptus too - its very light and cave like but dark and sinister - im one of those folks who adores what the civet does in a scent on my skin so its realy sexy and deep too - dont be scared of black annis its really really lovely if you love licorice!!!
-
matey, this be the warmest richest butterscotch rum ive ever smelled - its a BIG scent (it lasted on me for a whole day into night!) and is so undeniably rich and delicious - there is a popcorn edge to it at first but the drydown and everlasting scent is predominantly butter-scotch with a lil booze (and coconut? am i imagineing things?) this would be the most fabulous conditioner or lotion scent!!!
-
this is very much like carnation cookies with cinnamon and some light citrus frosting on top - without being foody at all!! it also immediatly brightened my day - soft and not overpowering, very very dry and like the midday sun.... im having an idea that ahathoor and chimera would layer in a really delicious way.....
-
oh no, its discontinued!!!!!! morella starts very mysteriously, i smell the greenery but upon wearing it goes straight to the only non soapy violet that I have ever smelled - soft and smells exactly like those hard sugar square violet candies!
-
Loralei is such a melancholy scent - the neroli and ylang ylang almost sink with sadness but the sandlewood keeps it flat, afloat almost - upon wearing the sandlewood comes out stongly and its so soft and still sad - the dry down is my favorite though - so faintly i smell a very true scent of water - its so so so beautiful!
-
i Baba Yaga!!!! upon first sniff in the bottle its very fruity and yellow orange smelling - with more of a pineapple-maybe jasmine angle to it - it then mellowed even fruitier, like crazy candies and is now a soft fruity spice - its very strong its lasted a few hours now and seems to be getting stronger in the last stage! I think mostly i love sniffing my wrist and imagining Baba Yaga sailing thru the forest in her cauldron ship - im getting a big bottle o this!!
-
dark dark dark dark dark dark dark trees and earth, the resins and the vetiver plunge damnation straight thru to be a lot like the smell i would imagine of the soil a foot into the earth - out of the imp its very mossy maybe moldy and upon wearing it turns very very dry for me, still the same tone - its the darkest driest most somber scent i have encountered so far....
