    Stealthily, Stealthily

I have a bad habit of immediately buying any BPAL that has "violet" listed in it and since, I love orris root, iris and lavender, had a great challenge to not buy 500 bottles of this. I knew it would be a winner with the note roll-call and it does not disappoint. Lavender is the first note that makes its appearance to my nose and it is quite strong, but then calms down and the violet and iris do not take a back seat into the dry down. I agree with the reviewers above that the notes dance between each other. It is a drier, sophisticated violet perfume. Absolutely gorgeous!

    The Eye of a Vulture

Oh! I did not get dairy milk, sour or other wise, from this. It does start out with something creamy..and you know, it might very well be what ZZ and Anne mentioned as a coconut milk. Not at all suntan lotion coconut, but more like coconut water. OH! It reminds me of the coconut note in Obatala! The lilac makes its entrance loud and clear. It is a pretty lilac and it stays for the life of the scent on me. It does seem like a slightly creamy lilac. I bought this for the iris and get none of that at all! Overall, a pretty scent. Lilac lovers should love this! ETA Final stage of this scent is mostly the milky coconut.

    September Midnight

2017 version I see "chypre" and have to give it a go. On application, I do get a lovely ambery chypre and think I have to get a full bottle immediately! Then the pomegranate leaps out. It is very sweet and fruity, not "dark" at all. I like the way the notes play back and forth with each other during drydown, from amber to pomegranate, with a wisp of myrrh. It is pretty, youthful and if you are a sweet fruit fan, you might like this. For me, I will enjoy my decant.

    Day of Skulls

First smear on my skin and I am in beeswax heaven. The other notes come forward and there is a lovely waft of frank and floral, light cocoa. Pretty and very wearable. I was reminded of Venus Alma because of the wax and floral, so had to do a match. They are nothing alike and I was intrigued that the wax in Day of Skulls is the opening note but in VA it comes out later. Rivited there are so many variations of this beloved note! Day of Skulls got immediately promoted to a full bottle, as it causes the nose-glue effect. You know, a scent is so beguiling and changing that you can't remove your nose from your wrist even though you know you look like an idiot.

    Ella Hair Gloss

I bought this for the olive blossom (osmanthus). I fell in love with it at first whiff because, although I do not quite get the olive blossoms, the magnolia is so lovely and plays perfectly with the blueberry. Not a long lasting scent on my hair, but well worth respraying!

Nothing is Unexpected, Nothing is Foresworn

First sniff-all deep rich red wine. On the skin the wine is joined by amber that is heavy on vanilla. The hint of ash is such an interesting addition to this perfume and I agree with reviewers above that it has an incense-like vibe. Beautiful!

    Vampire Princess

This starts out with full blast of beautiful, smooth patchouli and musk. The plum comes into play in drydown, as does a lovely light floral veil, with the lavender not popping out as a solo note to my nose. The overall effect is a sexy, sophisticated, plum-sweet patchouli perfume. Fantastic! I agree with DiesMali there is family connection with Black Moths.

    Dancing Among the Tombs

Starts out with a very strong and realistic jasmine. There are nuances of green, although I cannot pick out my beloved osmanthus note at all, not surprising, as it is so much more subtle than heady jasmine. In final drydown, I do pick up the vanilla of Dorian and Snake Oil. This is a beautiful jasmine centered perfume and I am curious how it will age.

    Closet Raid

OK, I have officially died and gone to heaven. I love classic perfumes. This is indeed classic Chanel...only a kazillion times better with the lavender, hint of Snake Oil and whatever voodoo magic Beth has added.

    Impressions of the Floating World

First sniff, I was disappointed because it was so light. However, this quickly blossoms and deepens on the skin as a lightly honeyed vanilla with soft nuances of patchouli. Long lasting, low throw and oh, so lovely!

La Roue de Malheur Hair Gloss

Red musk, blackened patchouli, opium tar, inky oudh, champaca flower, pomegranate pulp, frankincense, and tobacco. This starts with a big wiff of red musk and gorgeous dark patchouli. Opium and frank, a bit of woodiness also evident. There is a hint of sweetness which must be the pomegranate, but it is far from fruity. I can't pick out the tobacco or champaca flower. This is beautiful, although surprisingly does not last as long as the notes would suggest.

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2015)

I got this a more than a year and a half ago, wore it once and declared it, "Nice!" Now, it has become an exquisitely sexy red musk and patch dominant scent, with fruity nuances that are not too sweet. I also get a woody vibe which might very well be part of the splendid patch. There is a vanilla undertone in this as well. It is an outstanding fragrance.

    Temperature and BPAL

Crimescenecleanup, getting oils in summer for me always makes me nervous because they are on the mailtruck all day and can sit in the mailbox for hours if no one is home. I have unwrapped my bpal packages to find the bottles HOT. Fortunately, after they settle, I cannot detect any issue. I would venture to guess that one day in the window sill, although not ideal, will not be a complete or any disaster, especially as it will be spending the rest if its life in your nice dark climate controlled cabinet.
  15. Got an Ajevie sample and then had to get a bottle on first sniff. It starts as a very rich chocolate (I sprayed it discreetly in my hair during a road trip and everyone in the car piped up suspiciously, "Who is eating chocolate??"). At this point, I get a similar vibe I get from Wulric even though the notes are wildly different...it is that cozy animal fur vibe. This does not stay long. The chocolate receeds into the background and I am enjoying my favorite note-sandalwood- that is lightly spiced. The amber is light. Fairly good longivity.

    Grounding Scents?

When I need grounding, I have to go for the big gun- pure sandalwood EO. Australian Sandalwood SN could help.

    Solstice Lace

Opening notes of boozy apple, but soon tobacco comes forward- strong, beautiful BPAL tobacco sweetened slightly with vanilla. It reminds ne of high quality apple tobacco. Wears quite long. Love!!!

    Antique Lace Hair Gloss

This is an absolutely gorgeous vanilla. On the scale of vanilla intensity in HG, it between Moon Reflected in Every Rice Paddy and Boo. I like it better than both of those. It is neither foody or floral to my nose- just beautiful vanilla. I like it better than the oil because it has no lemony beginning and seems more powerful. This is extremely long lasting (even in dry California weather) with a good enough throw for compliments.

    Strawberry Moon 2017

This is my second attempt to find a Strawberry Moon that smells like the HG, which has a dandelion note that breaks my heart. I have failed again. In the 2917 oil, I get heavy strawberry, a bit of green when wet. The strawberries hover between realistic and almost plastic. The final drydown is a gorgeous, almost musky powdery vanilla, but it takes long to get there. I get no sage at all, the dandelion is in my imagination. If you like sweet strawberries with a vanilla drydown, this is for you.

    Zorya Polunochnaya

Pale amber and ambergris, gossamer vanilla, moonflower, and white tobacco petals. A lovely, eterereal vanilla. Antique Lace light. It also reminds me of Lyonnese. I cannot pick out the ambergris, but do get the suggestion of very light florals. For as lunar as it is, it has incredible longivity.

    Dandelions & Concrete

This starts off quite sharp and very green on application. At this point, it reminds me of Venus Vercordia. It then goes into bright, sunny dandelion flowers and indeed, as Lizzies Luck said, it is like putting your nose into a bouquet. For me, the most beautiful part is dry down when it smells more milky, with lighter floral scent and more musk and some sweetneness. Gorgeous! It is a heavy morpher on me. Low throw and only lasts about an hour.

    The Sun's Treasure

This might be my win from the series. Wet, this almost a metallic scent, with some orange blossom barely there. As it dries, it is a beautiful bright amber on my skin. The honey is tempered by a very light, non-skanky oude and gorgeous saffron. The final drydown is an almost powdery amber saffron. Low projection, but lasts long. Given the note list, I suspect some deepening with age,

    La Pierreuse

Goodness, these reviews have been confusing due I am sure to our different skin chemistries! I did not blind bottle buy this before the Lupers came down because I did not need another rose scent. The reference to sweetness, Rose Red, pink roses, powder all helped me restrain myself. Then I got my decant. GAH! I get the rich, thick tobacco with a whisper of rose. Perfection for a bpal tobacco junkie!!!

    Nocturne

This is lovely- a deep rich violet. Lilac heralds the opening, but quickly backs away for the tuberose that flits in and out again. Dry down is all violet, not only a floral bouquet, but leaves and stems. Not a light- hearteded or sweet perfume, but deep and brooding.

    Tag-Upon-Avon

Cake and tea. Very light whisper of clove and tobacco but those notes disappear quickly. Jealous of those who got a lot of tobacco in this, as on my skin it is a cake dominant tea party.
