    Fairy Thorn

In the bottle: This smells like baking. The other notes are definitely there in the background, but the primary feel of this is sweet baked goods. I think it's the vanilla/plum combination that's making this smell like cake? Whatever it is, I like it! Wet on skin: This is morphing really quickly! Woodsy musk, then CAKE, then fruity florals & then some lovely (yet confusing) combination of all those. Dry on skin: Vanilla cake, soaked in plum nectar, surrounded by flowers & scented candles (the sandalwood, I think)! Yessss! This is pretty full on (& amping on me a fair bit), but GORGEOUS! After a few hours: About the same as dry, only faded. Verdict: I think this is going to get a LOT of use! I love it!

    Manhattan

In the imp: Cold leather (the 'cold' could be the mint & grapefruit, maybe?) & orchid with a hint of amber & lemon. Very sleek & sophisticated - it makes me think of a glass office with a black leather couch. Wet on skin: Grapefruit, tea & lemon peel, with a tiny bit of wood & leather in the background. Not what I was expecting! Dry on skin: Orchid, citrus & white tea mainly, with a little wood, amber & leather in the background. Not as cold or stark as in the imp. I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet After a few hours: Mostly just leather with a bit of wood & grapefruit. Verdict: It's not a bad smell, it's just not for me. Too masculine & just not really me. I'll be swapping this.

    Oleander Honey

In the imp: Beeswax & something herbal or plantlike... I'm guessing that must be the oleander as I have no idea what oleander smells like. Wet on skin: Honey covered in oleander. The honey amped a LOT when I first applied it, but within a few seconds, it faded & the oleander took over. Dry on skin: Exactly the same as wet. Not sure how I feel about this. It's blended well & the honey part is working for me, but I'm not sure how much I like oleander. After a few hours: Pretty much the same as dry, only a little more faded. The honey is a little stronger than the oleander now & it's smelling a little bit more like beeswax. This one doesn't change much once it's on! Verdict: This is a really nice, consistent perfume & it's quite pretty, but I'm not sure I'd wear it much. I love the idea of the Rappaccini's Apiary scents, I just don't think this one is quite to my taste.

    Shattered

In the imp: Exactly as described! This is stunning! Wet on skin: The champagne is gone & the mint is amping a fair bit, but otherwise very similar to in the imp. Very cold, fresh & glassy! Dry on skin: A light, minty, grapefruity floral. Not as nice as wet or in the imp, but still very pretty & refreshing. After a few hours: About the same as dry, only more faded & almost a little soapy. Verdict: Probably not an everyday perfume (though I'd probably wear it more with a scent locket), but I'll definitely get some use out of this!

    Veil

In the imp: The lavender & the ylang ylang are the dominant notes here, I can barely even pick out anything else! This might be too much for me. Wet on skin: Lavender. Lots of it. I love real lavender, but I'm not a huge fan of lavender perfumes because they always tend to be sickeningly strong & this is definitely being too strong so far. I can't really smell anything else except a tiny bit of ylang ylang. Dry on skin: The lavender has faded a lot & the other notes have come out. This is much prettier now, but I'm still not loving it. I think it might be the orris & the ylang ylang blending together & taking over on my skin. I don't hate it, but I don't think this one is really something I'm going to love wearing. After a few hours: Much, much, much nicer now! The lilac & the violet are finally showing themselves & this is really quite pretty! Verdict: I like it, but it's not great on me for the first couple of hours of wear & I don't think I'd really ever end up wearing it because of how long it takes to get to the notes I really like. I'll probably swap this one.

    Spellbound

In the imp: Exactly as described - so pretty! Wet on skin: Amber, red musk & a little bit of rose. This is so lovely right now, but rose has a tendency to disappear on my skin, so we'll see what happens. Dry on skin: The rose has died... It hasn't gone sour or anything, it just smells like dead/dried roses. Sort of potpourri-ish. After a few hours: Amber & red musk. The rose is completely gone. Verdict: It's not bad, it's just a bit 'blah'. It's a good base though, so it might work well for layering? Maybe with a rich/strong yet simple floral?

    Dorian

In the imp: Exactly as described - a musky cologne with a hint of sugared tea & vanilla. Wet on skin: Same notes as in the imp, only the vanilla has taken over as the dominant note. Dry on skin: Musky vanilla, with a little tea & cologne. After a few hours: About the same as dry. Verdict: I don't think this one is really my style. It doesn't smell bad on me, it's just not really my taste. Might be a little too masculine for me. I'll see how it goes on my husband instead!

    Hollywood Babylon

In the bottle: Strawberry & cherry with a slight floral & amber in the background. Wet on skin: Amber & red musk, with hint of floraly-berries. Dry on skin: REALLY beautiful! Vanilla, berries, amber & musk! SO nice! After a few hours: The vanilla & amber are the main notes here, the musk & berries help to round it out. Verdict: This is one of my favourite & most worn BPAL perfumes! It blends AMAZINGLY on my skin - every time I wear it, someone compliments it!

    Glasgow

In the bottle: This is gorgeous & reminds me of rain! The blackberry is beautiful but subtle & there's something that smells like lavender but without the lavender (confusing, I know, but that's the only way I can describe it!), so I'm guessing that's the heather. I've never smelled heather in real life, but if it's anything like this note, it's beautiful! Wet on skin: Just the heather & the "rain" feeling! So pretty! Dry on skin: Mostly just the heather, but the blackberry is slowly starting to make an appearance. After a few hours: About the same as dry. I love this! Verdict: This is probably one of my most worn perfumes, especially on cold & rainy days - it just seems to suit that weather well!

    Chaotic

In the imp: Very intense! I don't know how else to describe it, other than it suits the name! Wet on skin: Sweet, slightly spicy & strange! Dry on skin: About the same as wet, only more musky. After a few hours: Sweet & musky, but there is a hint of chaos in there! Very subtle - not at all what I expected from how it smelled in the imp! Verdict: I probably wouldn't wear it on its own (though it is a nice smell), but I can see how it would layer beautifully with the other RPG scents!

    Druid

In the imp: Exactly as described. Simply stunning! Wet on skin: Mostly herbs & grasses (unsurprising for me), the other notes aren't really there, but just seem to give it a bit more depth & mystery. Dry on skin: Oooh! The herbs & grasses have faded a bit & mixed with the incense & something else! This is lovely! Would be very fun to layer with! After a few hours: Same as dry, only more faded. Verdict: This is very pretty! I can't wait to experiment with layering it with some of the others!

    Gnome

In the imp: Exactly as described! What a fascinating smell! Wet on skin: This was SO strong in the imp & yet SO faint on me! Similar to in the imp, I guess? It's hard to tell when it's this faint! Same notes, just switched around a little. Dry on skin: Faint & slightly sweet. Almost like musk lollies! I can still pick out the notes if I try. After a few hours: Very faint. Musky-resin & something almost salty - the gear lubricant? Weird, but it works! Verdict: Not something I'd wear on it's own, but it would certainly be fun to layer with!

    Good

In the imp: Light, sparkly & very sweet! I can JUST identify the individual notes IF I'm looking for them, but otherwise they're blended wonderfully! Wet on skin: Very different, yet still very sparkly, light & sweet. A very light amber/resin-ish honey, very light musk, a hint of something floral & a sprinkling of sugar! Dry on skin: This is amping surprisingly well for something so light! It's about the same as wet & just SO PRETTY! After a few hours: A very light, honey-ish, sugary musk! Verdict: Far too light & sugary for me to wear on its own, but I really love this one & it is fantastic for layering! I layer it with Elf quite regularly & they work perfectly together!

    Leanan Sidhe

In the imp: Exactly as described! Quite magical, really! Light, misty & dewy! Very mysterious! Wet on skin: The herbs & flowers are coming to the front, but it's still very light, misty & fairy-like! So pretty! Dry on skin: A bit more musky & powdery now, but still very pretty! It's not as ethereal as it was in the imp (or wet), but it's still quite mysterious! It's not only herbs & flowers - the mist & dew notes have mostly turned to powder, but there's just enough left to add a hint of intrigue. After a few hours: A little more musky & powdery than when dry, but still a nice herbal-floral scent. Verdict: I really like this one &, while I know I’ll wear it a lot as is, I would LOVE to try it in a scent locket!

    Mage

In the imp: Woods/forest (probably the huge variety of resins), resins & yes, something that does smell/feel like strong magical power! Wet on skin: Green & something that smells like it might not work. Uh-oh. Dry on skin: Like a toned down (& slightly less powerful) version of in the imp. I can see how this would be ideal for layering! I absolutely must experiment with that sometime! After a few hours: This is so subtle I almost can't smell it - resins with just a hint of something mysterious. Verdict: Far too subtle to wear on its own, but would be great layered with probably anything else, as it would help give the perfume a little more depth!

    Twilight

In the imp: Exactly as described - so pretty! BPAL's lavender note sometimes goes overpowering & awful on me & the lavender seems to dominate here, so I am a little worried about that. As much as I love honeysuckle, it's never a strong note on me, so I never actually end up smelling like honeysuckle. I LOVE jasmine, but sometimes it goes a little soapy on me, so this perfume should be an interesting experiment! Wet on skin: Mainly jasmine with a little honeysuckle & with lavender hanging out in the background, not dominating at all! Dry on skin: HONEYSUCKLE! Oh my gosh! There's jasmine too & that's starting to go slightly soapy, but I don't even care because HONEYSUCKLE! I can't smell the lavender unless I'm really looking for it, which is unusual for me. After a few hours: Honeysuckle is still the main note, supported by jasmine. The jasmine is still slightly soapy, but it's still a lovely smell - like an expensive soap. Verdict: I'm sad that it does go a bit soapy, but I know that I'll still wear this a fair bit, because the honeysuckle note is just so lovely here!

    Vial of Holy Water

In the imp: Magic water! There's a very light aquatic scent here, a hint of aquatic florals & a touch of something green & wet plant-like like seaweed or cucumber. Wet on skin: A big hit of saltwater at first, but it fades quickly. Seaweed is my main impression here (not a bad thing, but not what I was expecting). Dry on skin: Faint, plant-tinged, musky saltiness. Like skin drying after being in the ocean, surrounded by seaweed. After a few hours: Same as dry. This is salt water on me, not holy water. Verdict: Far too bland to wear alone, but it might work differently in layers? I'll have to experiment with that, because the RPG scents are designed for layering.

    Lady Amalthea

In the imp: A light, sweet, floral musk, with just a tiny hint of mint & white chocolate. Wet on skin: Still musky, but the other notes are all competing with each other over who should dominate. Minty white chocolate & musky tuberose seem to be winning at the moment. Dry on skin: Mostly a musky white chocolate now (although the mint & flowers are just barely there if you're looking for them). After a few hours: About the same as dry. Not what I was expecting, but still really nice. Verdict: A lot more subtle than I was expecting from the first sniff. A very mild, dusty perfume.

    Lightning

In the imp: This smells like this chill in the air before a storm over the ocean. I can't really describe it any other way & it's incredible that they managed to capture this scent! Wet on skin: The chill is gone, but the ocean & impending storm are still there. Not quite as ethereal-feeling as in the imp, but still amazing & evocative! Dry on skin: A soapy version of how it smelled wet. After a few hours: A little faded & slightly less soapy, buy about the same as dry. Verdict: Absolutely stunning at first, but the soapiness makes it smell less like a perfume & more like a laundry detergent. It's still nice, but not something I'd wear. I'd love to try this in a scent locket though!

    Olokun

In the imp: ocean & linen! So weird, yet so lovely! Wet on skin: Same as in the imp, except slightly stronger. Clean & fresh, like sticking your nose into a pile of laundry straight out of the dryer, only nicer! Dry on skin: More subtle now, like freshly washed linen drying in an ocean breeze. After a few hours: About the same as dry, only more subtle. Not as fresh-smelling, but still nice. Verdict: One of those "I never knew I wanted to smell like this" scents! Weird, yet very wearable!

    Elf

In the bottle: This is so well blended that it's actually really hard for me to pick out the individual notes! It smells like a clearing in a magical forest, but with no dominating "wood" scent (this is good for me, because most woods quickly turn to antiseptic on me!). Somewhere that elves would live, for sure! Wet on skin: Different, but still so well blended that I can't really tell what's changed! It's warmer, slightly muskier, sweeter (the honeycomb & florals?), juicier (the berries?), richer & more solid. More like an actual elf up close now, rather than the forest where they live. Dry on skin: Different again, but so gorgeous! Musky, sweet & woodsy, yet still somehow ethereal & light! Exactly what a Wood Elf should smell like! After a few hours: A dusty (almost smells like sandalwood), golden, honeycomb-scented musk. Lighter than before, but so very pretty! Definitely Elf-like! Verdict: This is one of my absolute favourite scents! I love it so much! It's gorgeous layered with "Good" as well - I need to experiment with other layers soon!

    The Ghost Children

In the bottle: I can't pick out any individual notes, but this fits the description quite well. Although I think it smells more like the perfume of an adult female ghost, rather than ghost children, it is most definitely a ghost perfume! Wet on skin: Slightly more "solid" feeling, but still very ghostly. Dry on skin: Like the lady of the house's room in an old, long-abandoned, haunted mansion. Dusty lace, faint antique perfume, dry (floral scented) soap, snuffed candles, old potpourri. Mysterious & ghostly! After a few hours: This has faded a lot, which really adds to the ghostly feel of it! There's only a hint of it now, like a ghost (still the ghost of a woman, not a child) has just floated past you. Very cool! Verdict: It's not the kind of scent I'd wear on a daily basis, but I'm sure I'll get a fair bit of use out of it! This perfume is REALLY pretty & very evocative!

    June 23, 1868

In the bottle: This smells like a vampire's garden, that's the only way I can describe it! Like a stone courtyard at night with wrought-iron gates, overgrown with weeds & various night-blooming flowers, outside a vampire's mansion. It's cold & dark & eerie & yet SO beautiful! Wet on skin: Almost exactly the same as wet, only slightly less cold & stone. Dry on skin: The flowers & "cold night" feeling have faded & the weedy smell has come out more. Like the same garden, only just after sunset or just before dawn. Not as pretty, but still really interesting. After a few hours: Somewhere in between how it smells wet & how it smells dry. Not as amazing as in the bottle, but really pretty & mysterious! Sort of a vintage floral - ever so slightly soapy, but not in a bad way. "Sepia toned" for sure! Verdict: I really want to try this in a scent locket, but even without one I'm really glad I decided to buy this! It's such a lovely scent! Not something I'd wear during the day though, this is a more ethereal floral, ideal for wearing at night!
  24. JuliskaMarie

    Aeval

In the imp: The sweet pea is a little hard to sniff out, but otherwise this is as described. Very pretty. Wet on skin: Slightly-sagey musk. Dry on skin: I wish the sweet pea note was a little stronger (it's almost not even there), but this is still lovely! Like a warmer, deeper version of how it smelled in the imp. After a few hours: It's blended together better & has faded quite a bit (musk is still the main note), but this is still really pretty. A sweet, herbally-floral musk. Verdict: A good perfume for when I don't want anything too strong, but still want to smell nice.
  25. JuliskaMarie

    Titania

In the imp: Exactly as described. This does indeed smell like a fairy perfume worthy of its namesake! Absolutely stunning! Wet on skin: Not as light & sparkly as in the imp. More musky. Dry on skin: Light, beautiful flowers, fresh fruits & something I can only describe as "fairy magic"! This is GORGEOUS! After a few hours: Much muskier than when it first dried, but still SO pretty! Verdict: This is one of my absolute favourite BPAL perfumes, especially for Spring & Summer! I really need to get a bottle of this!
