I wonder if Liz would work on you. do you like vanilla florals? it's a gorgeous scent if so. le pere fouttard (a past yule) has leather and licorice. also nice, if you like licorice!

Chocolate and Cocoa, in every combination possible
annemathematics replied to mand's topic in Recommendations
http://www.bpal.org/topic/71562-ein-kuss-von-krampus/ might work for you. you should pm numanoid for advice. I know she loves boomslang and chocolate scents and could prob give you the best answer. -
go to sleep, darlings and almond blossom would be my guesses. maybe this year's wintertime would give you what you need. also a winter's dawn is floral snow with citrus.

I love this stuff. LOVE IT. to me, cocoa is dark and rich and a warmly bitter, while cacao is brighter, sweeter and has a liqueur-quality while definitely not smelling of a cocktail. this stuff is cacao and a sparkly sugar crust with something almost a little warm and musky (are fluffy baked egg whites musky?) I didn't care for the sugar skulls perfume on me, but this is completely different and works wonderfully. I use it as a post-shower moisturizer and as a hair oil. the scent is light and rich and lasts all day. despite the notes, this isn't as hard core foody as bpals can get. there's sugar and cacao, but mostly this hovers in the realm between being foody and perfumy.

Yellow Metal With Mingled Purple Blushes
annemathematics replied to aiobhan's topic in Limited Editions
it's funny. I go the the trading post and get bath products that smell like nice and unusual perfume... and here, from the lab, is a perfume that smells like a fancy bath product that could come from another company or department store. it's nice but it's not very me. strong with a good throw and wear length. -
I'm realizing that when some scents do a certain "bpal thing" to my nose, that it's beth's magic with frankincense that I'm picking up on. that magic is here. this is a lovely frank and myrrh scent. the balsam adds a warmth and richness but it's subtle to my nose (I love balsam subtle or strong). the ashes note smells exactly like the aftermath of when a candle's been snuffed out. that smoke that rises with a trace of wax and warmth of scent. this is beautiful to wear and smell. as mentioned above, it stays very close to the skin and disappears after a few hours.

A Rosy Colour Paints Her Claws With Honor
annemathematics replied to Lady_Fire's topic in Limited Editions
A very pretty rose scent that's reminding me of something I can just barely place..a scent from my youth from a lace shop that came from France in tiny old fashioned bottles. Reminding me more of my youth in that time period and smelling fancy and foreign (nothing old ladyish) Geranium can take over on my skin but it doesn't here. Just adds a depth and texture to this blend. Very pretty, and a little drop goes far. -
I like the smell of galbanum, but that is the only note I can smell in this in the imp and dry on me. Similar to tacitus' phoenix from 2013, this is a single note on me.

I blind bought this because I am painfully in love with 2014 feeding the dead. beer + cakes + incense. so beer + cakes + lavender went into my cart instantly. Mari Lwyd is closer kin to eat me than she is to feeding. very rich very sweet cake. very sweet and juicy lavender (more of a big purple berry or bursting concord grape---> BIG JUICY PURPLE. PURRRRRRPLE!) so I like this, but as I came to it with my own [wrong] expectations, I'm still getting to know it on its own terms and feeling out if it's really ME. also this review reflects a scent that came out of the mailbox not 12 hours ago, so I have yet to see how and if it shifts as it settles in. but for you foodies who like your sweet, buttery rich cake scents, keep your eyes and ears on this one. she might be the yule you are looking for.

Love pain-ecstatic, cruel-sweet: gold-flecked honey amber pulsating with red musk, patchouli coeur, bourbon vanilla, inky vetiver, pomegranate rind, myrrh, blackened violet leaf, and blood red rose petals. white witch is bright and sweet and FUCHSIA. normally pom scents are not on my radar (I'm drawn to scents featuring rich resins and musks and tobaccos) but this scent has won me over. it's vibrant and fruity with out being cloying. a little musky and a little gritty to keep it interesting and wearable to someone of my tastes (see previous parenthesis) i really like this, even though it might not make it into a full bottle purchase. it's a very happy and pretty scent.

two things of significance to this review happened to me in 2013. the first is that I finally read Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol run which is incredible and amazing and so much fun and I recommend it to the entire universe. the black annis "cameo" in it had me cheering. second was the bpal website update, that allowed to even "stumble upon" the fact that they have a black annis scent! a perfume about a cat lady with a tree house and a cave fort?? made of scent notes I adore?? (I like anise and I'm very much Team Vetiver) this was an imp purchase that became a bottle purchase that I was reminded of again with a recent lab frimp. thank you, lab! I put this on last night and settled in to watch the documentary, McQueen and I, about the immensely gifted fashion designer. I can't imagine a better scent to huff while looking at mcqueen's clothes. each is beautiful in an unconventional and challenging way, powerful, slightly filthy yet impeccably tailored/blended. this scent is a masterpiece. odd and unique but quite refined. not for everyone but its existence a true gift for those of us who enjoy this sort of thing. it's brilliant and possibly misunderstood by many and just not the cup of tea for others still. but I dig it, and when I passed on my original imp to a friend (male, this works on fellas too!), it converted him to the ways of bpal. thank you beth!

The Phoenix, Having Burst Her Shell
annemathematics replied to ReallyZeb's topic in Limited Editions
the TAL attraction oil hooked me on bpal orange scents, then eastern comma hooked me on orange and tobacco. so when I saw this scent, with the listed notes, it was Run Not Walk into my cart. now it's arrived, and it's still settling from travel, but it's lovely. the citrus is bright and sweet and fairly mellow. on my skin, this is mostly patch and musk aka musky patch with a bright glimmer of the citrus notes. it feels like a distant relative of so below (for the patch) and eastern comma (for the citrus with tobacco), although it's very much its own scent. soft and warm and wearable. rather than a newly emerging phoenix, I get more of a cozy nesting feel. I love it. -
cheery cherry dragon's milk! this is bright, cheerful, playful, strong, sexy, almost over the top and lovely! it does shift a bit a few hours after wearing, losing much of its brightness and sweetness. I adore the initial stages and am still exploring how I feel about the aftermath. but whenever I sniff this or first put it on, it always makes me smile. it's very different from the other fake blood bpal, b-horror and also quite different from the other bpal blood scents "blood" and blood popsicle.

Single Note: Last Year's Stale Candy Corn
annemathematics replied to reynardine's topic in Halloweenie
this is a fun scent. it really does smell like candy corn. there's a strong buttery element to the sweetness in this, which makes me think of candy corn's crazy waxy texture. -
I like many bpals that have sugar notes listed (sweets to the sweet is a favorite in regular rotation) but for whatever reason this scent didn't come together on my skin with the level of success that others have enjoyed. on me, this smells burned and acrid and a bit rubbery. I can't win them all, and so I chalk this up to a learning experience.

visions vii is made up of big and powerful notes, yet they all come together to make a graceful and elegant whole. I adore tobacco and opoponax, and the former is clearly the star on my skin, with the other being a subtle supporter. the black pepper is noticeable when wet, but then dries down to add an edge of spiciness. warming, rich, elegent one of 2014's weenies that I reach for the most

Did you try the past weenie single note Stage Blood? DB and cherry and so insanely fun and pretty.

Very strong, long lasting honey + honeysuckle scent, slightly powdery quality to the scent. With these notes, my nose wants mute of a juicy floral. The powdery works better with the chorion (on me, to my nose) Boom! very strong. I dig it, but prefer my beloved standards IBT AND smutty goblin.

cafe1001 is a great scent! but it's a sexy cologne with notes of coffee and spiced with tobacco. so amazing. but if she wants a coffee smells, MiNO is likely what she seeks. good luck! also, there will prob be another coffee scent in the future from bpal. maybe your perfect scent is being "brewed" while we speak!

I'll add curved sky from century guild to this thread, as there's lime in it. Not a foodie scent, but a gorgeous one.

Mornings in New Orleans is the closest to coffee smell on me. Fox spirit is a pretty perfume, but not coffee. Cafe 1001 nights is awesome cologne, but maybe also not coffee. Haven't tried it, but maybe Mr Prenderghast could work? I'd seek out Mornings in New Orleans on the forum, add I think it's your best bet.

this was very much rose and frank on me, with the sandalwood and clary sage adding their voices to make this unique among my bpal incense blends. nice. very very much rose-heavy on me.

this on me wasn't actually very cakey. it is very pink. hovering somewhere between cherry and strawberry. there's a richness to the scent but it's mostly bright and clean and sweet. very fun and wearable.
