absolutely stunning in the decant and on wet. sweet floral honey with smokey oudh over a restrained leaf note. bright, sweet, pretty, leaning slightly feminine. in the elbow crook, the scent dries down to the same, but at my wrists the honey note goes waxy-plastic. I love this scent, although I'm not sure i pull it off.

Dead Leaves, Black Pepper, and Sandalwood
annemathematics replied to agirlnamedfury's topic in Halloweenie
absolutely beautiful dead leaves cologne. it's a dry unisex scent. the pepper offeres a subtle kick of spice. the sandal is dry and smooth. one of my two favorite dead leaves scents. -
ah, sweet swooony bpal tobacco with beth's autumn leaves. there's something sweet and crunchy in the drydown. I'm loving the dead leaves scents and this is tied as one of my top two.

so far I've just sniffed the decant, but it's a scent memory of halloween holiday plastic decorations at the shopping mall store, spencer gifts. crazy dead-on accurate.

this opens with the most beautiful soft marzipan note.the scent gets creamier as it dries down. after about thirty minutes, it was just beyond my threshold of foodiness in scents. mostly marshmallow and face paint. not for me, but totally brilliant.

i know that the joke with cedar as a perfume note is that it can sometimes make a perfume go to pencil shavings. this scent does seem to feature cedar, and it does evoke a pencil, but strangely and funnily enough, it's not doing the "pencil shaving" thing. beautiful cedar wood cologne with something dark, rich and spicey. this is beautiful, and I'm treasuring my decant.

Quintessence of dust!! Second this! That's what I was going to say. Quintessence of Dust is perfect if you are looking for that type of scent. I should have typed it in all caps. Not only is it a bookish scent with wax, but it's a gorgeous scent. One of my favorite book smells, beeswax smells and OLLAs.

muddy puddle to me smells exactly like the perfect cocoa mix. the kind that comes in individual serving pouches. a hint of marshmallowiness, a little trace of artifice that pre-made prepackaged foods carry, but in a delicious cozy nostalgic way. not a creepy chemical way. I find this to be a gloriously comforting scent. I've worn it bumming around the house reading my comics or watching cartoons, and it's an absolutely perfect scent for such things. much like a mug of cocoa around me, this one doesn't last too long, but slathering is rewarding here. I don't get much dirt or salt with this. and for skin chemistry reference, bliss works well on me, but the other hot chocolate did weird things on my chemistry. muddy puddles is a total choco-win. thanks, Puddin!

[from the prototype at loved to death] in the bottle, this was VETIVER with a splash of boozy fruit. on me, black moths was a dark and gritty vetiver/patchouli blend with an undercurrent of dark purple fruit. the rose wasn't noticible to me. it has a good throw and lasted 6+ hours. bruised purple scratchy velvet

[from loved to death prototype] alan shocked me by how close to bpal's snow white he is. bright, sweet, snowy vanilla that lasts and lasts. one of the sweeter prototypes that I tried on. good throw and excellent staying power. I tried him on one afternoon and could still smell the Dr the next day. snow white's dashing older brother.

catch me, dad is a beautiful herbal floral that feel like a classic perfume. much like goofballs and flying kites, there's note of the outdoors in sunshine that I love also present. for an elegant and playful scent where lavender is featured as a beautiful bloom in a perfume that isn't for sleep.

my knowledge of iris as a perfume note is limited, resulting in me thinking of it as a note that comes up in classic department store/fancy schmancy perfume houses, etc. my only real experience with it in a bpal is in the sublime kneel down, fair love and fill thyself with tears. so when I saw this peach, I assumed classic style of scent with a peach twist. BUT what I actually got was, as stated above, PEZ. such a profound scent memory of PEZ that it made me chuckle because i could hear the dispenser head snap back and feel the candy slide out. this one is for all the candy scent collectors. amazing.

on me, this scent is a most beautiful and feather-soft patchouli scent. the other notes are hard to detect, beyond perhaps adding to the softness of the patch. it's a slightly melancholy scent. not what i was expecting, but still very lovely. how funny that everyone so far is having such different experiences with this one.

I'm so grateful that this was originally listed without notes. I blind bought it, and when I learned that it contained a note of mischief that tends to work or not work on me in extremes, I didn't attempt to swap it out for another. and again I'm grateful, because this is a beautiful honey-centered perfume on me. in the bottle, it's mostly Dorian. however when on, its a rich and gentle honey with light touches of blackberry and soft vanilla and the barest kiss of musk. the throw and wearlength are on the low side, but have been increasing with time/age. I've been reaching for it constantly. it's a beautiful and uplifting scent.

Something sweet and STRONG? *newbie*

maybe sweets to the sweet: "Sugar upon sugar, honey upon honey: white cane sugar and honey absolute." or sugar skull: "Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits." -

red musk and red fruits and vanilla. huffing at my skin, it's certainly pretty, but almost too bright and too clean for me. I want something deeper/darker/stickier in my scents. as I'm wearing this, however, I keep getting these incredible wafts of the most amazing and outstandingly magical red musk-vanilla combo I have ever smelled. I see what all of the fuss is about. beautiful! -
the smokey cedar is the main player on my skin. this does NOT go hamster cage nor pencil shavings, but it does evoke a warm, clean wood cabin in an evergreen forest. soft and clean and gentle, warm and comforting. I love forest scents, and need to death match this against others to check for overlap. it feels familiar yet also very unique. doc is beautiful but this scent is hardly diabolical. rather it's rugged, outdoorsy and trustworthy. dry and almost dusty. there's a warmth to it, like sitting in a patch of sunshine.

The Candy Butcher (2015)

this is a dark, dusty chocolate scent and the cream aspect plays more as texture than as a note. it's nice. super deep. not nearly as evil or weird as I was expecting. -
Midnight on the Midway (2015)

this bottle definitely needed some time to settle in and develop. freshly mailed (possibly freshly made as well, for all I know) something--maybe the flowers and ozone?-- was too much-sharp, high, dryer sheet/soap evoking. but after a few weeks this scent has become yet another incredible winner from the CD lineup. MotM opens with white flowers (gardenia meets lily? Magnolia? Orchid?) and ozone, giving way to sugar and incense (mostly soft frankincense). the beginning is bright and elegant and certainly pretty enough, but it's the drydown that really hooks me. just enough warm and sweet and it seems to layer beautifully with everything. very addictive. -
The dragon con atmosphere herculanum something something is supposedly prominent with this note!

Selbstverliebt bath oil from the trading post etsy. It's not there now, but if you see it in an update... -
a beautiful incense blend. the citrus and ginger adds a brightness but don't make it foodie. although i can hunt down and suss out many of the individual notes, nothing stands out above the others in the blend...well maybe the yuzu when first applied. it's such a nice balance for the cypress. this is a bright, woody incense and it's just mmmmmmmmmmmm one of my favorites from the 2014 yules.

#6 fresh out of the mailbox, this baby went turned staight to a hideious medicinal smell. cold, cruel, shrill, bitter medicine. it was a horror and a disappointment. I couldn't even suss out what exactly made it a woods scent. was that cedar amping up in such a ridiculous fashion? now, weeeeeks later, and this little kitten couldn't be more different. soft, glorious, warm, fuzzy, musky. it's my favorite of my CTs and a favorite bpal. I can't believe the extreme transformation, and am grateful that I held on to this bottle and tested it once again. it still doesn't strike me as being very woodsy, and it's less chaos than cuddly. yes, that's right. woods VII #6 is a Cuddle Theory perfume.

#6 bright red cherry candy on neon lime green leather. that's what comes to mind when I sniff this. very sleek and slick and smooth and glossy. almost sleazy in an 80s music video way. (big hair and shoulder pads come to mind when I sniff this as well) this is big and loud and lasts forever. I haven't worn it much, but I do have an attachment to this little weirdo.
