Imp: floral with something extra Wet: boozy floral? I guess so. Dry: ooh that must be the leather! sweet, leathery, boozy floral. Very nice and feminine! glad to try this!

    Languor

An opiate torpor, soporific, trancelike, and sublimely languid. A poet’s morphine dream, a listless journey into a gentle dream and the precipice of intoxicated madness. Paperwhite and black narcissus, three lilies, black poppy and tuberose and a hint of hypnotic opium den haze. Very perfumey, predominantly opium/poppy. Nice, but I prefer the lab's Opium Poppy blend from Rappaccini's Garden for when I need an opium kick.

    Sin

Imp: This reminded me strongly of Lust - must be the gritty patchouli, although I could have sworn there was red musk in this... Wet: The cinnamon peeps out on top of everything else. The amber is soft and round on me. I wonder how that is possible, usually my skin hates amber, but lately it seems to work! Dry: This is a really nice blend, actually. Spicy, warm, powdery (in the good way). I like it!

    Faiza, the Black Mamba (2006)

In the decant: Dark green, fresh, spicy perhaps, bergamot citrus-ness Wet: Retains those qualities, but now with added fruitiness and sweetness. I guess that is the berry/floral/vanilla/honey combination. It has an interesting "damp vegetation" quality as a top note - but in a good way for sure! Dry: Somehow this reminds me ever so slightly of Luperci. It must be the oakmoss, giving it a perfumey/cologney quality on my skin. But not in a bad way. The darker notes must be giving this a certain earthiness too, because in spite of the "sweet", "wet" and "floating" notes, it remains well grounded. The citrus has all but disappeared, but I seem to catch whiffs of ginger now and then. Bottom line: This is a beautiful blend, it is most definately - as others have mentioned - seamless, making it hard to identify the notes. I would say that it is gender neutral. I'm going to have to ponder whether or not I need a bottle of this. The artwork makes me go "yesyesyes!", but I would like to get better acquainted with the scent too. Will definately use my imp though! ETA: the honey or whatever gives this a sour last breath on my skin.

    Eris

Imp: Ok this definately smells like some artificial flavoured candy, like Jolly Ranchers - maybe watermelon flavoured? Wet: Same, although less sharply so. Dry: Having recently tried Vasakasajja, this is extremely similar, if not in notes, then in "vibe". The same kind of tropical floral fruitiness. Vasakasajja is more subtle though. I think I'll end up swapping this one.

    Bilquis

My lovely decant fairy sent me a sniffle of this one. The bit that I managed to smear on my skin smells predominantly like... honey and almonds. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to sit so well on me, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to snif it.

    Mr. Jacquel

I got a sniffle of this from my lovely decant fairy, so I'm basing my review on the bit that I managed to smear on my skin What surprises and pleases me alot about this blend is that in spite, or maybe because, of the amber (which usually seems to do something sharp and bitter on my skin) I am getting a lovely, softly powdery, warm and golden scent from Mr. Jaquel. I really like this, in fact... it's gorgeous! ETA: agree with the Luperci comparisons

    Mad Sweeney

Imp: Okay, so I've been reading these reviews, and I'm going to be cautious... *opens imp* *snif snif* WOW!! This is the real deal! Wet: I'm not much of a whiskey drinker, but this does actually smell pretty amazing! Dry: It seems to dry really fast - probably all that alcohol evaporating On the drydown, the oak note comes out more, adding a great deal of complexity to the scent. This is just an astounding creation - Art if you ask me - and I am so pleased to have an imp! It's so different and unique. I don't know how much I will actually wear it, even though I love it, so I'll have to see if I use up my imp, before I get a bottle.

    Mama-Ji

Imp: I get powdery florals too... Wet: Hey, where'd it go? Dry: Ah, now I'm getting some scent again! I can definately relate to the comparison to Scherezade - even though there's no red musk is this - because the "spices" must be the same kind. The florals begin to bloom more on the drydown as well, and they are lovely, very realistic. It becomes a very intriguing, deep, spicy, womanly scent Possibly one of the best florals! I'm undecided on the bottle status, but I'll probably cave in once I've used my implet. ETA: The boy loved it so much that he gave me a bottle, which is on it's way now. I love it more and more myself too...

    Mr. Nancy

Imp: sugar cookies and a dash of sparkling lime! Wet: this reminds me alot of my beloved Shub somehow, same sort of foodiness level. The lime is fading a bit... but then the boozy note emerges... and it is delicious! Dry: Now I smell both tobacco, the "butterscotch" note, and the wafts of lime, booze and sugary goodness... This is divine and I have to get a bottle!!!

    Medea

Imp: This is ZOMG floral! (Why do I smell rose?) Wet: Hmm. that's gotta be the orchid... and the poppy. And there's a funny wonky note there too... Dry: Predominantly heady orchid/floral with that overlying smoky note, which my nose has learnt to recognise as opium/poppy. Nice, just not for me. I think I am beginning to understand my BPAL personality - I thought I'd like the heady florals, but they just somehow don't fit *me* Super glad to have tried this though! Thanks dart

    Nephilim

Imp: Oh yum LAVENDER! I like lavender, so this doesn't put me off Wet: woody, herbal, fragrant. I wouldn't have been surprised if this were an aromatherapy blend, and I mean that in a positive way Dry: This is one of the first times that the fig fruit note has not gone "overripe" on me, or smelt wonky. The herbs have a real zingy freshness, almost as if it were mint, although it's not mint. The lavender is there and I love it, but it's not overpowering. The darker notes, such as vetiver, linger in the background. The drydown is soft, earthy, herbal... and I love this scent Thanks so much dart!

    The Apothecary

Imp: Green. Reminds me slightly of some of the ozoney/green/aquatic Picnic in Arkham scents. Only grassier. Wet: Hm. Still green. Sweet. Light. Crisp. Dry: Overall this is a sweet green scent. The moss darkens it a bit once dry, in the kind of "decaying" way. But not as bad as Zombi No fig nor ginger in this, which were my main reasons for wanting to try it. It's pretty, but not astounding on me. I wish it had more oomph, with the ginger. I might keep it for a while, and see if I use it when it gets hotter. Otherwise it's swapping. ETA: forgot to add that the sweet tea leaf becomes more prominent on the dry-down too.

    Marie

Imp: Rose with something more. Something green. Wet: Uh-oh... Is this Zombi?? Dry: I'm beginning to think that I'm actually more particular about my roses than I thought I was... This rose is very strong, almost fruity. It seems to be the same rose that goes off on me in Zombi (in combination with the dirt), and that I can take only when I apply Rose Red with a very light hand. Hm. I can see this has potential, but it doesn't seem to like me much. I also wish the violet was more noticable. Phooey!

    Opium Poppy

Imp: sharp bitterness Wet: soapy, or rather, reminiscent of a soap that I've used that had this fragrance... or something. Maybe it's Chanel no. 5, that also definately pops to mind! Dry: still smells like something I may have smelt before in soap-form, but that's not to say it smells vile. It smells... soft and dry and smoky and heavy-lidded. I've never tried anything with opium before, so I'm glad to have tried this. Will keep and use imp on occasion. Looking forward to trying more scents with opium. ETA: sometime later, the wafts that I get from this are almost bonfire-smoky! Very nice! ETA2: addictive. 2nd day in a row wearing this (which is unusual for me). I may have to get a bottle. Yay for the intoxicating floral - soapiness and all ETA3: I have discovered that layering this with Snake Oil is gorgeous. Opium is a very mature kind of note, but the SO makes it go oh-so-sweet-and-heady.

    Osun

My first thought when I sniffed the imp was "Brazil" - as if this reminded me of something I had smelled in Brazil - I used to visit Brazil alot as a child. I have no idea what it could be that smells familiar, but seeing as this is an Orisha/Candomblé related blend, it's not an unlikely association. It smells fruity and herbal but in a bitter sort of way, and honey is very hit/miss with me - usually miss, so this is for swaps sadly. It's not terrible on my skin, but I just don't think I will wear this. I do like how these Orisha blends actually smell like potions or something though ETA: I've tried two of them now - Orisha and Oya, and they seem to have a common herbal base note. Cool!
  17. Browneyes

    Oya

Frimp The Lab is incredible. This smells like a real plum in the imp! This is a really pretty blend. It wafts sweet herbs and a touch of plum. A bit "perfumey" but I like it. Will definately use my imp! ETA for spelling
  18. Browneyes

    The Caterpillar

Frimp The Caterpillar is indeed lazy and kind of stoned. On me it becomes a generic perfumey heady floral scent. Captures the image of the lazy Caterpillar rather well. It's pretty enough. But meh. I miss the patchouli and vetiver kick! They're very much buried by a mountain of flowers. If you like thick and heady florals try this.
  19. Browneyes

    Baobhan Sith

Frimp This starts out fresh and pretty, a mix of green apple and sweet grapefruit. It becomes rather non-descript I'm afraid on the dry-down, and with a wierd funky background note. Is it the white tea? Swapping.
  20. Browneyes

    Gomorrah

Frimp This smells alot like Intrigue to me, which didn't work to well on me. Minus the cocoa, and less woody. Still, it is quite wood-chip -like on me, maybe it's the herbs. Any herbs in here must be the dry, dusty kind The fig and date are the fruits that stand out the most, and they appear to be dried fruit not fresh. It's not bad bad, but I don't think I'll get much wear out of this.
  21. Browneyes

    Le Serpent Qui Danse

Frimp Mainly voilets (which I love) with a touch of tropical-smelling (to me at least) gardenia. I don't detect the vanilla although it may be adding extra sweetness to this lovely floral. Not dark or sinister at all to me. Rather a pretty imp that I will wear when the sun begins to shine Not my favourite violet scent (Saturnalia is so far...), so I won't get a bottle, but will definatly keep and use the implet. ETA: lol I should have waited 20 minutes more. The rich and almost sticky dark vanilla does come out more in the dry-down!
  22. Browneyes

    Port-Au-Prince

Frimp This starts out smelling like a macroon, very almondy and sweet, with a touch of booze. Then it morphs into something spicy - the cloves. I like it alot actually I don't hanker after a bottle, but I could see myself wearing it occasionally - taking the imp with me to reapply because it's not super strong on my skin (but then again hardly anything is) ETA: the waft from this is actually just like clove cigarettes! I wish I could smoke one right now...

    The Oblation

This is just love at first sniff for me 1) you have to like lavender 2) you have to like berry fruitiness But then you're good to go! Bottle: Smells like real lavender, and a faint undertone of blackberry Wet: Perfect balance between the herbal lavender and the blackberry Dry: This is such a realistic combination of the two main notes, which compliment eachother so well! Love! Feminie, sweet, fresh, summery! ETA. Hm. Fades quite fast. In less than an hour I have only a herbally scent left. Maybe it will work better in my scent locket, or if I SLATHER ETA2. Lasts longer if I slather... And it's a really nice bedtime scent as well Edit3: With a few months of aging, the honey really comes out, and it is soo smooth and sweet. Just gorgeous!

    Enraged Groundhog Musk

SUCH a cute label! Bottle: spicy cherry liquer and real caramel (like when you cook/burn sugar in a pan) Wet: perfumey musk, cardamom (which is not like cinnamon, but smells like a cousin of cinnamon), cherry liquer, very faint caramel, and no cocoa to speak of. Dry: predominantly dry spicyness, with a tart juicy aspect added by the cherry and faint musk. Not sickly sweet or overly foody. I think I like ETA: After about 5 hours all I get from the spot where I applied is a musty, sour smell. I don't know if that's the cherry or the cardamom, but it's not so good. At least it's faint. It's not that I was expecting more wear-length, because my skin usually soaks up scent pretty fast anyways, but the final drydown is not so good on me. So sad. I hope I can find a loving home for this little rodent. If not I will test him again in 6 months time, maybe it will have gotten rid of that cherry. ETA2: Having aged it for over a year now, I can say that it is really much better. I think the sourness might have been something other than the cherry, perhaps the cardammom? Which would mean that it's not really sour, more like acrid? Hm, anyway, the cherry is sweet, the baked-foody scent is delicious, and it has really mellowed. So try hanging on to it if it didn't work for you straight away.

    Luperci

Bottle: Uh-oh this smells like generic men's cologne to me too... Wet: Quite sweet - waxy beeswax/honeyed balsam stands out especially over a layer of patchouli Dry: Hm, it seems to dry back down into men's cologne. Lingers close to the skin. After poking around on the forum, I have discovered that it's probably the oakmoss that amps up to become the cologne smell. Could also be the balsam. But I have my heart set on this, so damnit, I'm going to like it! I do in fact like it, it's a lovely smell, even though it's so masculine on me. I've also liked to wear men's perfume before, so this one will be my "masculine BPAL scent" for days when I feel like I need to counteract my girliness. So I'm happy to have a bottle of this anyway! ETA: I have grown to love this. I love the fact that the beeswax smells honey-ish, but doesn't go off and sour on me like some honey smells do. I love the warm, earthy, golden, masculine feeling that I get from this. I find that I don't mind too much that it smells a bit like a cologne/man's perfume, because it is still quite a unique kind of smell (much in the same way that I don't mind Opium Poppy smelling a bit soapish, because the soapishness is overruled by the uniqueness... / end ramble ) And I look so much forward to seeing what a little bit of aging will do to the patchouli - hopefully it will make it even more gritty and feral. Rawr.
