When the weenies were first released I was crazy about this description. I would LOVE to smell sweet maple and crumbling leaves ANY TIME I WANTED. So, I waited for reviews to see if this would pay out. And, it looked like it would. There was a ton of “LEAVES YAY YUMMY” etc~ Obviously, I ordered it! I couldn’t wait! I tried it the first day, I tried it a week later, I tried it a month later, I tried it last week… Am I broken? Does everyone else really smell Abercrombie & Fitch Woods cologne when they walk through autumn leaves? It is lovely if that’s what you want. AWWTAO is a perfumers interpretation of WOODS with a nice green/subtle sweetness. However, it smells absolutely nothing like crumbling brown leaves to me. There’s not a real leaf to be found in there. I’m also assuming (from the reviews) that this cologne WOODS is the standard lab leaf note? If so, I am sad-panda~ I’m keeping it as it’s lovely on my husband, but it was a personal disappointment. I still want something that smells how I thought this would smell…that black tea-dust earthy smell of slowly decomposing autumn leaves is heartbreakingly lovely – but definitely nowhere in here.

Source: Ebay purchase straight from the Lab I picked this up for two reasons: I’ve wanted a rose scent that doesn’t scream “Grandma” and a search for an authentic leaf note… The smell of fallen oak leaves is one of my favorite scents in the world. However, I’ve started to wonder if I’m smelling something different than other people experience. To me fallen leaves smell strongly of un-brewed iced tea (iced = cheap black tea dust) and earth. Unfortunately, most perfume leaf/woods notes end up smelling distinctly of dude-cologne (absolutely nothing like leaves/trees) to my nose. I’m not sure if this is on purpose - if the woods/leaves descriptions are actually indicative of this Frat Boy smell – or if that is what other people smell when they smell leaves….but regardless I have absolute no desire to smell like an Abercrombie & Fitch store in the late 90’s…. That being said, ATHSALTH met both of my requests! The rose in this is lovely. It smells like a late-blooming antique rose bush. There’s a tiny bit of powder to it – but not enough to summon knitting needles. I’m unable to discern which of the remaining scents are the respective mist/dew/aspen leaves/translucent yellow blossoms. However, what I’m ASSUMING to be the aspen leaves is actually the closest to an authentic leaf scent I’ve found thus far – I’m not sure if the dreaded “woods” is still there and just gets lost in the blend – or if the note itself is win – but there’s a faintly tea/earth element that I love (and hoped for) of actual crumbling brown leaves. The remaining reads as a subtle sweetness – its subtle and feminine – but it does slightly remind me of John Freida Frizz-Ease hair spray. (That’s really more of a compliment to the hairspray than an insult to the BPAL.) In summary this is lovely, it doesn’t morph much and definitely smells of a late autumn walk through leaves and roses….not of a perfumers ROSE and LEAVES. Very nice and what I hoped it would be!

A chilly, bright perfume: flurries of virgin snow, crisp winter wind and the faintest breath of night-blooming flowers. 2013 Version~ Snow White has been on so many recommended lists (based on my preferences) that I knew I had to try it! That being said, I was definitely scared I would experience the "play-doh" or "fabric softener" phenomenon. Once you do there's no going back- my husband mentioned one of my frimps smelled like Skin So Soft....I totally can't UNsmell that now! Thankfully all I get out of Snow White is Ossim! The smell in the bottle caused a vague sweet nostalgia that took a few days to identify - it's lunch time with my Ma-Ma and syrupy sweet Del Monte fruit cocktail! Once it dries down the fruity syrup melds into a pale white floral cushioned in an icy breeze. The throw is small and I need to apply a decent amount in order for it to last all day. A small background of fruit cocktail lingers - enough that at dinner last night I kept admiring the smell of a mixed drink on the table - but when the smell remained long after the drink was gone I realized that was me!!!! The cold note keeps the scent mature and refreshing - but the creamy-sweet-fruity-florals add a fantastic girlish innocence. I'm so glad I ordered this!

I love this!!! I ordered this with Snow White - they definitely have the same snow notes - but whereas Snow White is a creamy white pineapple floral, Almond Blossom is a sharper PINK floral. Wet it reminds me of a Shirley Temple HEAVY on the grenadine. Every time I apply it I expect to see a bright red syrupy dot of grenadine on my wrist! However, once it dries down it blends into a chilly sweet pink floral that works perfectly with the snow notes. I was a bit trepidatious about the cold notes - but they're perfect!! Absolutely no mint or dryer sheet! On me it smells exactly like the cold ozone smell of a chilly winter wind. I'm tempted to grab a back up next month!

I spent many years attempting to find a perfume that contained even a glimpse of the quintessential central Texas June scent….frilly pink Mimosa blooms. Although I never gave up; until Dior Addict reformulated in 2012 my mission was a total bust (admittedly it was probably hampered by the fact that what Texans call “Mimosa trees” perfumers call “Silk trees” – but alas…) However, during my search one day (many years ago) I eagerly purchased a bottle of Voluspa Mimosa Martini from Anthropologie. Understandably it smelled NOTHING like my beloved pink blooms – but it DID smell delicious! Long segue aside, SHOGGOTH smells A LOT like Mimosa Martini’s older professional bohemian sister. Mimosa Martini had that faint-alcohol tinge of most cheaper perfumes – plus, like many other candle-like scents, it’s staying power was MAYBE 45 minutes – on a cool day with prolific application. Even though Shoggoth has a relatively small throw, with generous application it lasts all day. “Amorphous, radiant, incandescent” is PERFECT. Although the scent doesn’t really morph from bottle to dry down; the various individual elements manage to somehow maintain their own personalities while still marrying into one cohesive fragrance. The end result is warm, sweet, glowing deliciousness.
