Can anyone recommend a blend that has Myrrh as a dominant component?

Bestest ever but hard to find: Streets of Detroit is hands down my favorite myrrh dominant creation

Some myrrh heavy GC blends that I like include: Anubis, Czernobog, La Petite Mort!, Priala the Human Phoenix, Sed non Satiata, Wings of Azrael

To be fair, I amp myrrh, but these are the blends that I can clearly detect the myrrh and it's listed as one of the major components

Honorable mention to Medea, Bastet, and Hecate also but they aren't as myrrh dominant as the previous listed ones

    HTH

Ooh I'll have to try to get an imp of Anubis and Czernobog and I think I just got one for Sed non Satiata that I haven't tried! Thanks!

  2. I really wanted this scent to work, I mean really wanted it to. I adore red musk and patch, black currant and plum are favorite notes of mine. So I've been testing and retesting my imp since I got it (so 1.5 years or a bit more) and every note in there agrees with me that I know of but something goes slightly medicinal which throws the scent off. :wacko2:

So unfortunately, I'm at the dregs on my imp and I won't be buying a bottle. Just so sad.

  3. I have the exact same experience as LizzieLuck did, I got labdanum and myrrh and nothing else. I think this will age to be a nice subtle scent but I kinda feel like it's more of something to layer with something else rather than being by itself.

  4. Among my favorites are (in no particular order--can't favor any among my babies):

    Smokestack

    Oblivion

    Dorian

    Strangler Fig

    Morocco

    Al Azif

I know that's more than five, but I couldn't chose between Morocco (lovely sweet) and Al Azif (banana pudding, oddly comforting).

My death notes are apricot and peach scents, though jasmine and honeysuckle will likely drive me away also. My skin tends to amp evergreen notes (vetiver et al.).

I'd love to get everyone's advice. Please, feed my obsession!

For Dorian have you tested out the current LE from the Post The Serpentine? Also Lilith Hairgloss, if you go that route. :D

Not to mention A Stroll through the Quarter (from BPTP) Incense smoke drifting out from the basilica mingling with oleander, just-flamed bananas foster, and a splash of Dorian.

    Hi there!

Have been away for quite some time - again *sigh* All the time I have been waiting for an update for Revenant Rhythm. Wasn't there talk about it becoming a GC? I know about the hair gloss etc and when it came online I was "ah well, I'm waiting for the perfume blend ... no need to go for the gloss". Now I regret this decision. Anyway ... any information about it?

I asked Puddin about it about a month ago and currently they are out of a component and are not sure whether or not they'll be getting it again. So right now it's permanently out of stock unless they can can obtain more of that component.

    Thank you!

But really not the answer I was hoping for. Well I'll just hope the component will be available again.

    Welcome!

Yeah, it wasn't the answer I was hoping for either. I am crossing my fingers that they get more of that component in so it can be made still.

That said, you can always do a ISO, I did and got a number of responses for the Hair Gloss and Bath Oil.

Is the patchouli very strong? The "gnarly patchouli" has always made me steer clear of Goblin.

Though, as a GC it's going to go on my try list.

I think it's balanced between the notes. Although with my skin chemistry I can end up with a sweet benzoin coconut and a hint of patch. (That said I like most BPAL patchoulis, so long as it's not the dominating note)

Awesome! I'm definitely going to try it. Thanks!

It's the one that I put off trying for 2 years (exploring BPAL) and then finally got a imp to try and realized I was incredibly stupid for not trying it sooner. Hands down it's my DH's favorite scent on me because he thinks it's dead sexy.

  9. I'm almost done with my bottle of Body, Remember and I rarely see it pop up on the sale page. Does any one have a suggestion for a similar coconut replacement? I liked the black coconut note from Tiki King, too - also hard to find. On me, Body, Remember is strongly black coconut, slightly musky, and sweet. So, any recommendations for a good sweet black coconut?

For a GC how about Goblin? That's got Black coconut, gnarly patchouli, and sweet benzoin. And it's a very sweet dark coconut blend on me.

  10. I am OBSESSED with wearing coconut in the summer, to me that's what screams beach/Hawaii. I actually came back to the bpal fold after a hiatus because I was in search of the perfect summer coconut.

I tried everything in the GC that contained coconut - none of it was what I wanted. My favourite is actually a LE, Paper Kite Coconut, white sugar, angelica, and black pepper.. However, a close runner up is Death Cap A warm, soft, ruddy scent, earthy and mild.. I know that sounds weird, you would not expect it to contain coconut. But I swear it does, and it's awesome. Just my two cents! Hope you find your own perfect summer smell!

Paper Kite sounds fabulous. I love coconut scents but my favorite (Goblin) isn't a summer scent IMO.

  11. Xanthe (Guava, orange peel, white pepper, spun sugar and apple blossom)

Son of a BiggerCritter (Coconut pulp and vanilla cream with lemon balm and Mexican lime.)

ETA: Otherwise my favorite summer scent is

Hell’s Belle’s (BPAL) Oleander with wet, sweet mandarin, lush magnolia, a rush of deep musk and a touch of spice.

  12. My favorite vanilla is the YES perfume from the trading post that came with the spirit board. It's beautiful. It's been taken off the site, but if you message puddin and he still has some, I'm sure you could work something out. (The spirit board that I have is also beautiful fyi)

Oh! It never occurred to me to contact him and ask now that it's been taken down. I have no use for a Spirit Board but would have loved the Yes perfume, especially as I love lemon. Fantastic idea!

  13. I've been trying and trying and trying this one, it's settled for over 6 months and I still end up with a dominating pepper scent that's way to much for my nose. Pity, as DH says it's a sexy vanilla spice but I'm not getting that at all, all I smell is pepper, pepper and more pepper. :(

  14. Okay, I've received my imps and tested them for a couple of weeks, these were my favorites:

    Golden Priapus

    Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener

    Tombstone

    Sin

    Bordello

    Elegba

    Cockaigne

But I also bought a "blind" bottle without smelling it first: Hollywood Babylon, and I looove it!

Bottles really are a whole new experience *slathering is good for you*

Defututa and Sudha Segara were _not_ my thing.

D reeks of jasmine and SS doesn't smell much at all.

I've ordered a bottle of Golden Priapus together with some more imps and ALOT of decants(most Yules, but also Pies, CP and one Phoenix).

Thank you alot for all the help!

I'm going to look after Sugar Skull, absolutely!

And the 13 with thirteen sugars(and chocolate).

So glad you found a few that worked for you!

As for Def.... Put the imp away for a while and see if the jasmine calms down. I've noticed with some blends that it can, after aging a bit.

I ordered the latest 13 too, normally that sweet isn't my thing but I could quite resist.

  15. For the first week I had this decant I got a glorious morpher of Golden amber and blackcurrant against a backdrop of red musk and ending with spicy carnation. It was quite the party!

After about a week vetiver and the patchouli decided enough was enough and made their presence felt.

So currently during the wet stage the blackcurrant and red musk come out to play with a drydown of patchouli and vetiver. I'm hoping with some aging they relax a bit and let the other notes out to play on a more permanent basis though so will undoubtedly spring for a bottle of it.

  16. Is anyone else finding that they only react to some cinnamon/cassis blends?

When I first started BPALing, I thought I would be fine because I tested blends like Plunder, Al-Shairan, Faustus, and others with no problem. Others I've worn with no reaction include Count Dracula, Playful Wooden Mallets, and Harlot. However, other blends don't treat me as well - Spanked 2011, Jailbait (this one really didn't like me), Dark Pumpkin Mead, Inferno, and the latest, Alice's Evidence. Does it have to do with what else it's blended with, or am I just unlucky and doomed to play roulette with cinnamon blends?

For me it depends on how new the blend is. For example, Sin burned me when I first got it, but after a few months of (the bottle) aging I barely get a red mark. Inferno took my imp a while to settle down before the cinnamon stopped burning me (and I was getting welts from that one when I first got it).

And obviously I'm enough of a glutton for punishment that I kept retrying these despite the initial burning to figure this out. :umm:

  17. I don't see Snake Oil listed anywhere? I only have the Pumpkinized version but have to admit this one strikes me as vanilla sweet with a huge throw to it.

Defututa (Olive blossom, honey, smoky vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, sandalwood, and champaca flower.)

Golden Priapus (vanilla and amber with juniper, rosewood and white pine.)

Tombstone (A rugged, warm blend of vanilla, balsam and sassafras layered over Virginia cedar.)

and maybe take a look at one of my favorites Morocco (Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia.)- although this one is more dry and spicy on me than sweet.

ETA: SIN (BPAL) Thouroughly corrupted: amber, sandalwood, black patchouli and cinnamon. (although this one is heavy on the cinnamon at first)

SCHOLARS’ TOWER: (BPAL) “Gleaming amber spheres, polished cedar and mahogany, sweet parchment, inks of frankincense ash, and soft plumes of incense.

Hesiod’s Phoenix (BPAL) Golden amber, bourbon vanilla, and sweet oudh. (if you can get ahold of this one!)

Goblin (Black coconut, gnarly patchouli, and sweet benzoin.)

Try out some scents with Oudh in them. I find that that one turns sweet on my skin.

  18.

So, I'm going through my bottle of Mars Ultor like mad, which is... not good. Does anyone have any recs for a GC or more common LE equivalent? (Note list: "Black amber and smoky vanilla with cistus, benzoin, caramelized tobacco, and blackened nutmeg.")

Unfortunately Mars Ultor is one of the most unique scents I've smelled from BPAL, so I've been having to ration as well. The closest blends I can think of are also LEs for the most part, but they still might be more readily available. Red Lantern is sort of similar, so is Eyes Made Strong and Grave with Sleep. Both of them are heavier, though. Nothing I can think of really has that unusual smoky airiness that Ultor does.

If I had to come up with some GCs, maybe Antikythera Mechanism and Hellfire. In fact, Hellfire would probably be your best bet. It's got the sweet smoky musk, tobacco and incense. Still going to be heavier overall, but it's not incredibly far off.

I remember Red Lantern turning really sweet on me. I'll check the others out, though! I'm way overdue for trying Antikythera and Hellfire...

You know what I thought actually smelled really similar? The Black Vanilla & Cardamom HG. Too bad it's not a perfume.

Black Vanilla and Cardamom HG should be a perfume IMO. I love that one. It hits extraordinary IMO.
