    Aglaea

I have decided. Amber is my Holy Grail note. I find that it's less a distinct scent, and more...an overall effect on perfume. It warms everything up and gives it a soft glow. If a blend was sharp and headache-inducing before, amber softens it out. I love amber paired with anything. And BPAL happens to do a FANTASTIC peach note. It's so accurate and juicy and sweet on me that I've decided I simply MUST have a bottle of this....when I have money again. Where Forbidden Fruit (another favourite amber scent of mine) is a warm golden glow, Aglaea is a pink glow. Like the colour your fingertips turn when you press it against a flashlight that's on. I wore this to school, and absolutely could not concentrate on my English class because I was busy sniffing the air for more whiffs of beautiful peach. Score: 10/10 ETA: Just after I posted this, I remembered what this scent reminded me of! I'd bought a bottle of peach-flavoured plum wine in Singapore before I left to come to America for university. My father hated it, because it was so sweet and fruity that it more resembled fruit juice than alcohol to him. But I simply loved it because I wasn't particularly attached to the taste of alcohol. It was perfect because it warmed me up and put me to sleep, and I didn't have to suffer through tasting alcohol to get the results. No wonder I love this perfume so much. Plum wine is my One True Love amongst alcohols.

    Pale, Without Name or Number

This is probably the green-est scent I've ever tried. I smell like nothing but crushed leaves. But not in a bad way. I don't know how to describe, except...it's that smell where you go out on a hot summer day and roll around in a meadow. That smell, but somehow less pungent and more just.....fresh. This is probably the only perfume I've tried where it actually starts off quite faint and slowly grow stronger. I think this really is the perfect summer scent -- so green and fresh. I'm definitely hoarding this bottle to wear next summer too, now that it's growing so cold. I think just having it on hand to sniff during the winter will remind me of green summer days. SCORE: 9/10

    John Barleycorn

Wet, this is nothing but whiskey on me. On the dry down, I start getting more of the barley, with the subtle tang of blood. This is certainly a VERY unique scent, and unique scents are exactly what I'm looking for from BPAL. I can't imagine being able to get something like this from anywhere else. However...I kiiind of hate the way whiskey smells. It's the one alcohol I'm determined to never try, because my taste buds would have PTSD for the rest of my life if it tasted how it smelled. And even though the whiskey here is VERY good whiskey, all sweet and rich and stuff, it's still fundamentally whiskey, and I can't stand it. Luckily, I know a friend who'll go crazy over this, so I'm gonna pass it off to him. He can probably pull off such a masculine scent better than me anyway. I am far too girly to pull off the whiskey + blood combination. SCORE: 3/10 (But again, I'm biased. I'm sure someone who enjoys whiskey would rate this a lot higher.)

I am Tired of Tears and Laughter

This is pretty much a single note lavender on me, and a very herbal lavender at that. It reminds me of lavender stuffed pillows my grandma had at her house. This would be perfect for someone who likes lavender, or someone who can sleep to the smell of lavender, but personally, I'm just not very into lavender. Which is strange, since I usually don't mind herbal smells. I'm tempted to try sleep to this, but I've never had trouble going to sleep. I'm dead asleep usually the second my head touches the pillow, so it feels very wasteful wearing perfume to bed. I won't get to enjoy it. I think I'm gonna pass this bottle onto someone who'll appreciate it more. Hopefully someone close by me so I can see if I prefer lavender when it's on someone else. I really wish I liked the way lavender smells, because I like the way lavender looks so much. *sighs* SCORE: 6/10 (Although this is an admittedly biased score. I'm sure someone who enjoys lavender would rate it much higher)

    Gingerbread Poppet

I've wanted this scent ever since I found out it exists, and I managed to get my grubby hands on two bottles by scouring Ebay. One is from 2004, and one is from 2005. And both of them are GORGEOUS. They are the PERFECT gingerbread and I can roll in them for days and oh my god I still want more. There will never be enough. I think the most important difference between the bottles is that the 2004 version is slightly spicier, while the 2005 version is slightly sweeter. I love both of them, though the 2005 version seems to have more staying power and throw on me. Apart from that, I honestly can't pick the notes apart. I'm too busy dying because oh my GOD, the gingerbread. So delicious. I just want to wear them, like, every day. I never thought I'd like foody scents until I tried these. Oh my GOD, they are amazing. Score: 10/10

    Endymion

Very fruity, without being sickening sweet. Refreshing too. But this isn't very distinguishably pear-like to me. If you hadn't told me, I wouldn't have guess it was pear at all. It didn't smell like any fruit in particular to me, and yet was undeniably "fruity", in a very vague way. I am very intrigued. The fruity note stays on me longer than most other people here, it seems, but still fades after 2-3 hours. But then the rose and lilies come out to play, and this is still a very lovely floral on me. This scent is very good for a light, summery look, and another perfume I can considering taking with me when I need to go back to China. Though I'm very disappointed that the pear wasn't more....pear-y on me. Not that what I had was bad, but it was also very....generic. SCORE: 8/10

    Desmonema

I wore this to an Orchestra concert. On the way there, in the car, this smelled very, VERY herbal and green, almost medicinal, with a subtle bitter edge. It wasn't unpleasant at all, don't get me wrong. Very unique and interesting. This is precisely the sort of scent I signed up to BPAL for, I thought. The kind you can't get from anywhere else. As I settled down to listen, I noticed the scent VEEEERY subtly growing sweeter and sweeter on me as the night went on. There's no definite stages to it. The sweetness of...I don't know, coconut? Just gently swelled up from beneath all the greens and herbs. And accompanied with swelling music? It was an experience that was absolutely heavenly. But even when it's at the highest point of sweetness, it doesn't turn heady or cloying. The green notes are still there, grounding the perfume. It's an absolutely gorgeous summer scent. Very, very unique. I am very pleased. Though I can't begin to judge the staying power. The concert lasted for 2 hours, and I came home and went straight to bed. Score: 9/10

    Dark Pumpkin Mead

THIS. IS. PERFECTION. Wore it out to lunch with friends, and on the way there, I could not stop sniffing my wrists. This just smelled so fantastically delicious, I wanted to eat myself. At first, I was terrified of the honey note, because BPAL's honey is a Note of Doom for me. It turns strangely medicinal and bitter on my skin. But something about the pumpkin and maple overpowered the honey and it was just glorious, glorious pumpkin and sugar on me. Christine (who was sitting next to me) told me through the whole lunch, she could smell the pumpkin and sugar coming from me. This scent doesn't really morph on me, but I've found that if I don't do anything and just let myself catch whiffs of this perfume when I move around, it smells EXACTLY like dark pumpkin mead. But if I press my nose right up against my wrist, it smells strangely like oranges. A very clean, fresh scent that's nothing like the whiffs I catch. I wonder why that is. But it's still great because this way I can hug people without worrying about overwhelming them with my perfume. And it has enough staying power to last the whole day! I cannot lavish enough praise on this. I wish I could afford two bottles. SCORE: 10/10

    Blue Lollipops

This definitely fits the description exactly. It IS blueberry lollipop. I guess it's my own fault that I tend to prefer more creamy sweetness than the artificial sweetness of candy scents. To me, they just smell cloying, without the warmth of more naturally sweet scents (like fruit notes). But that's a matter of personal preference. If you like lollipop scents, this would be GREAT for you. To be honest, I don't think I would've minded it that much (the blueberry is amazing and I'm want it even in lollipop form), except my skin seems to eat this up. It has tragically little staying power and even weaker throw on me. So I'm not sure what occasion I can wear it too. It's a bit too "kiddish" to wear out for dinner, but doesn't stay long enough for everyday wear. Maybe I'll just gift it to my sister. She can definitely pull this off (given that she's the same age as Lilith). SCORE: 5/10

    Ave Maria Gratia Plena

There is a little bit of wood and citrus when the scent is VERY wet, but it almost immediately dries down to a very....generically pleasant and inoffensive floral scent. Almost like run-of-the-mill department store scents. On the one hand, I'm glad this didn't turn into old lady like it did on so many other people. But on the other hand, the reason I buy from BPAL is to have unique scents that you can't get from anywhere else. So it feels like this defeats the purpose a little. But I guess I can't complain too much. This'd be perfect to bring with me to wear around family members when I go back home. It's safe, and it smells expensive. So hey. This has very nice staying power on me (I can smell it on my wrists all day), but also really light throw (I need to press my nose right into my wrist to smell it). Over all, I'm not upset that I bought a bottle, but I don't think I'm gonna buy another one when this one runs out. SCORE: 6/10

    Aurelia

Like everyone else said, this is very green and fresh. I think out of all the Songs of Nature scents, this is my favourite. It's not just green, but also somehow juicy and wet. I was scared of BPAL's strawberry note at first, because I'd tried Hollywood Babylon before, and it just did not work on me. But I was very pleasantly surprised by this. It's very natural and not artificial at all, and there's none of that plastic-y note that Hollywood Babylon produced on me. That might be because the strawberry and currant here is a base note, which is certainly very unique. But the greens and woods hold it back, so it's just this subtle, deeper sweetness in the scent. Sadly, this doesn't have much staying power on me. It's almost gone by the 3 hour mark, and also somewhat limited throw. Like someone above me said, this is a very subtle scent. It doesn't go, "HEY, LOOK AT ME. I'M STRAWBERRY AND PINES!" It's just baaarely there. But I do love getting the occasional whiff of this on myself. Unlike other people, though, this scent stays very consistent on me as it dries. It pretty much finishes off smelling exactly like how it started, which is great. I'm so glad I got a bottle of this. SCORE: 7/10 (If only because there aren't many occasions I can wear this to. If only it had more staying power, I can use it as an everyday scent for summertime).

    Forbidden Fruit

Even though I am very new to BPAL and have only tried a dozen or so scents so far, I am utterly convinced that this is my Holy Grail scent. It has everything I wanted. It has EXCELLENT staying power -- I can put it on in the morning, go to school, and still smell gorgeous when school ends. Fairly decent throw, people standing shoulder to shoulder to me can smell whiffs of it, but not so heady as to be intrusive. And it's...I don't even know how to describe. Curiously, this is decidedly not a light scent on me. It's warm and rich and dark and full of sweet, honeyed amber. I think the sweetness comes from the florals, but they are not distinct enough to identify as florals. They just add a hint of sugar to the amber. I don't get any citrus at all, but I don't mind. It'd just be jarring with how warm and honey-sweet this scent is on me. It's...just....golden. If this scent was a colour, it would be a warm, glowing gold. The funny thing is, the first time I tried it on, I hated this scent. It smelled like cough syrup on me. It's only after reading some reviews for Ave Maria and seeing people say that scents morph on them on the second try that I decided to try it again, and since then, it's just always been pure magic on me. I'm so glad I got a bottle of this. *hugs it*
