    Sugar Moon 2008

In the Bottle: Burnt sugar (like the good burnt sugar on creme brulee) and something else I can't identify. I'm looking forward to smelling it on the skin. On the Skin: Oh dear god, make it stop! This smells disgusting on me. Not since last July's 13 has something smelled this awful on me. It smells like badly burnt sugar, cheap scented candle, and a funky head shop that hasn't been cleaned since the 60s. Oh, and now some strawberry air freshener on top of it all. I'm going to go wash it off and then try and find someone who will give it a good home. So sad... I was so excited for this one.

    Her Voice

Man is this perfume pretty! I'm really liking the Lupercalia scents I've been trying, and I'm debating about putting a serious hurting on my bank account to buy some full size bottles. In the bottle: Green! It smells like the stems of a field full of flowers, with just the faintest whiff of the flowers themselves. On the skin: It starts out with a pretty sharp green scent, but it morphed slowly over a period of maybe an hour and became a lovely floral with a touch of green and something creamy sweet in the background. After a few hours the green pretty much disappeared, and the floral scent became a faint backdrop to the creamy sweetness, which I think is the vanilla and beeswax combined. It's a pretty smell, but I like the floral section more. Still, a very lovely and complex scent, that lasted for AGES. Seriously, I put it on at about 7 am, and it was still going strong by 7 that night. It would be and absolutely perfect spring/summer scent.

    The Clod and the Pebble

Rose otto, clove, patchouli, Indian sandalwood, nutmeg, and cedar. The Clod and the Pebble was the Lupercalia blend I most wanted to try. I don't know if it was the poem, or simply the description of the perfume, but I was dying to try it. I am definitely not disappointed. I bought an imp of this as part of a pack from lorajc and it really is beautiful. In the bottle: My first impression was that it smelled like a really beautiful rock. It was really an odd impression, but the scent just really fit its name. The funny thing is, until now I had no idea what sandalwood smelled like, but when I sniffed this a second time I went "Wow... something in here smells really familiar." And then I realized I used to own a sandalwood fan when I was younger, and I loved the smell. I'm so glad I like sandalwood, because it seems to show up all over the place in the lab scents. On the skin: Wow, this is just lovely. Even my husband likes it, and he can be sort of picky about perfumes. Sandalwood is the strongest note, but I get hints of cedar, and what I think might be the clove and a touch of patchouli. It sweetens up a bit with wearing (my skin turns everything sweet, it could turn bleach sweet, and its really, really frustrating) but mostly stays quite woody, with the sandalwood staying strongest and the cedar keeping up a good showing. I'm not sure I'm going to buy a full bottle, since I already have tons of perfume, but it really is gorgeous.

    Anactoria

Imp purchased for lorajc. In the bottle: Musk, and some other smell that just comes across as perfumy to me. I think it might be the amber. It's quite lovely. To me the musk is exactly like the musk in Blood Kiss. On the skin: Musk! It smells almost exactly like Blood Kiss on me at this point. For about the first half hour I wear blood kiss it's all musk, all the time, and this smells pretty similar. I'm not hugely fond of the musk scent though, so I'm hoping it calms down. Half hour later: Musk! Oh, and did I mention musk? *sigh* My skin already ramps up the sweetest notes of every perfume, I'm hoping it doesn't also amp musk as well. Unfortunately this really isn't for me. Oh well, maybe now I'll actually get around to doing some swapping.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

For Christmas I got a bottle of Dior's new Midnight Poison, and I LOVE it... for like the first half hour. After that it gets soft, sweet, and kind of generic on me. (Sadly, everything turns sweet on me. I could swear bleach and it would turn sweet on me. ) According to this this review... "Midnight Poison opens with a veritable roar of patchouli. It is that very clean patchouli that is in everything lately, and that only vaguely recalls the patchouli oil that once perfumed your local head shop." I have a vague recollection of hating the smell of patchouli (probably the local head shop kind), so it came as quite a surprise to find out that it is the note I've been loving so much. I'd love to find some other patchouli scents to try (preferably with a little more staying power), but there are an overwhelming number of both scents with patchouli, and types of patchouli in the BPAL catalog. If anyone has smelled Midnight Poison and has suggestions for a similar patchouli note, I would really, really appreciate a heads up!

    Thirteen (13): July 2007

OK, I'm pretty sure this is my first post here (maybe my second) so hello! I was so, so disappointed by this perfume. I wanted to love it SOOOO much. It sounded amazing, and I really love the scent of chocolate, so I grabbed it up. I got it yesterday, opened the bottle and instantly recoiled from how strong it was. It was definitely chocolatey, but kind of a weird gross chocolate. I would have thought gross chocolate was an oxymoron, but in the case it really wasn't. I put it on, hoping it would calm down on my skin, but instead it was even worse. It smelled like incredibly strong, spicy, rancid chocolate, and made me sick to my stomach. I had to go vigorously scrub my arm. *sigh* So sad. Here's hoping I can find someone to swap with.

    Mata Hari

So today I got my first ever BPAL order. Needless to say I was filled with glee. But unfortunately I was a bit unlucky with my imps. Mata Hari was one of the ones I was really looking forward to, but I really couldn't stand it. In the bottle it smelled... icky. Someone said stale coffee, and maybe that's what it was. It honestly smelled like bad breath to me. I soldiered on and applied it to my wrist. Luckily the halitosis smell disapeared quickly, leaving an odd green sort of smell. I think it smelled like rose leaves. Wet rose leaves on the verge of rotting. It stayed that way for about an hour, and then just smelled like old lady. *sigh* Halatosis, rotting leaves and old lady; not really what I had in mind. Back to the drawing board.
