What BPAL would this fictional character wear?

I think he should smell like leather. Hmmm, now I wonder what Christian Bale smells like.
  2. So you like sweet scents? I like Hollywood Babylon because it has a nice strawberry and then goes more sexy. Tweedledee is also sweet and bright. And to me, Fae is very much like a fancy fruit punch.

    Parthenope

In the vial: Jasmine and honeysuckle. This is what real jasmine flowers smell like to me, not the same jasmine as BiggerCritters or other bpal jasmines. Sometimes jasmines smell a little like diaper to me, but this does not. Wet: Very sweet and a little bit aquatic. Ooo, I like that aquatic note, whatever it is. I am becoming overwhelmed with sweet. This is reminding me of the incense I used to buy at the asian grocery store where I used to live. It was bright yellow on red sticks and was sold in clear plastic tubes with an unidentified deity on the front. I always liked to pick up some hell money with it, and the clerks would just look at me like I was the weirdest person they'd ever laid eyes on. I guess because it wasn't something blonde teenagers usually buy. Dry: I'm very glad that honeysuckle is getting a starring role in a fragrance. This is really sweet though, and it's really got a lot of throw. I think I need this, because I have a feeling that after it settles and ages a little it is going to be amazing. I love real jasmine and it is so hard to find unless it costs a fortune. Honeysuckle is one of my favorite notes as well. Plus, the label looks a lot like my Aunt, and I sort of resemble my aunt so I feel a little bit of vicarious thrill, even though the portrait doesn't actually look like me. For Lush addicts this sort of reminds me of their Butterfly bomb and the Jasmine Henna Hair treatment. It's not the same but they would go fabulously together.

    The Illustrated Woman

I tried this out at first mistaking it for The Grindhouse. Needless to say I was very confused. In the vial: Pine pitch, that must be it. That is some smokey pine. Wet: Effervescent pine, this is almost medicinal at first, then it gets sort of spicy, I think it's the clove. The Illustrated Woman is not subtle. Dry: I can't quite process how unique it is, to be smelling a realistic pine forest, complete with campfire smoke, alongside aggresive clove. A person who would wear this as their personal scent would have to be okay with comanding attention, she's a alpha female. It's beautiful and in-your-face.

    The Grindhouse

In the vial: Something sweet that reminds me of Smut. This is the note I compared to 'flinstones vitamins' in that review. Wet: Incense and florals. The rose really comes to the forefront on this one. Dry: What an interesting smell. A little too sweet for me to wear, at least on my skin chemistry. It's almost gone now, or else my nose is protesting the overuse today. This seems very similar to Smut to me.

    Pickled Imp

In the vial: Buttery spices and pine, the pine is more woodsy and rich than your regular pine smell, however. Wet: It's like oatmeal cookies with rasins and a side of chai tea. I've never encountered a bpal to remind me so much of chai before. Dry: The pine completely disapeared the second this hit my skin, which is fine with me. It was nice, but this is better. When I heard of this I honestly wasn't expecting anything nearly this yummy. I have other ginger/spice bpals but this is in a league of its own. As it dries it does become less foody, but very cinnamon. I can see exactly why everyone has been raving about Pickled Imp. I will easily need at least one bottle of this, possibly more. ETA: Hours later the clove drydown still smells wonderful! I know now that I need to stock up.

    Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht

In the vial: buttery caramel and apple blossom Wet: Caramel, honey and the apple blossom. It reminds me of the lovely Poisoned Apple with caramel on top, and a floral. Very interesting, but not what I would have expected from the description. Drydown: This is very yummy, a wearable caramel for those who love light florals. I'm not getting the amber or the teak however. I'll see how this ages.
  8. Your description worries me, maybe I am misunderstanding. Have thought about asking a doctor? Are you not getting enough sleep, or stressing out? If you're sure it's not medical or want some bpal to help in addition, I guess it depends on what scents relax you. Lavendar is traditional considered relaxing, but I'm sure there are others. Help me out, aromatherapy folks?

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

I've got the Agratbat coming in the mail I think the biggest problem for me will be finding something with the exact same amber, because amber is very tricky on me. Most ambers do bad things with my chemistry. The Vulva amber is just magical.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Yes, it's nice, but I don't get the amber at all. I tried very unsuccessfully layering it with O. That was gross. I'm having to look outside of BPAL for that immaculate combo of amber, cream, and teak.

Help, I have fallen in love with Glowing Vulva. What in the GC has the same amber note? I thought that amber and I would never get along. This stuff seriously reminds me of Indecence, which I had to stop wearing when I had reaction to it. I need to bathe in this amber. HELP!

    Glowing Vulva at Ryogoku Bridge

A kind swapper sent me a 1/4 decant of this and I am psyched. I am thirsting to know what all of the fuss is about, and at the same time I'm afraid I'll like it too much. In the vial: Butter and sweet, sort of the way Tokyo Stomp does but without the mint. Wet: What is that? The butter is being mixed with the woods, and some playdoh. Oh wow, that is some amber doing strange things with my skin chemistry. Dry: Ah, after this sinks in for about twenty minutes it morphs again and the amber is really really pretty. It's reminding me of a commercial perfume I used to love until I started having reactions to it. I want more of this! Seriously. OMG, need more!

    The Two-Headed Goat

In the vial: Pimento and cigarette smoke. No, I'm not kidding. Wet: *is afraid, dabs tiny tiny drop, sniffs, relaxes, applies normal amount* Whew! That really worried me. There's something very familiar about what I am smelling but I don't know what it is. Is that a floral? Lemons? Lemons! Those are lemons. Very sweet and sour. How strange! Dry: On my skin chemistry this is lemons. It's nice. I must be a freak though. I still think there's something else there but I don't know what it is. Something hebal and clean. Interesting.

    Hand of Glory

In the vial: First impression? BBQ corn nuts. I think I'm just overwhelmed by the smokey quality. Wet: Woah wood smoke and leather. Dry woods burning in a stove. Very masculine and leather leather leather! Dry: For those who want to try everything peppery, this is a good choice. It turns out I'm not as into wood smoke as I thought I would be. But it's interesting and I can imagine a lot of men would love this. As it dries the smoke overcomes the leather. If my husband ever wore bpal (other than on my birthday) I'd get this for him. It's reminding me a bit of Aries, but I think that's because of the pepper.
  15. In the bottle: Something I have smelled before that I'm having trouble placing. I think it's similar to an incense that was custom made for me when I was 12 a the medieval fair. It smells dark but just a little bit sweet like decaying woods. Wet: Tobacco and dry woods and the sweetness which is still reminding me of decay. Well, that makes sense. And it smells a little bit like bonfire or fireplace woodsmoke too. Niiiice! Dry: Ohhh! It got more gentle. Now I almost smell a tiny hint of coconut among the woods and tobacco. I think this is like Samhainphobia's little sister. I think I'm going to score another bottle of this and use it to fragrance my apartment. Don't get me wrong, it's wondeful as a perfume or cologne, but I just would love for my livingroom to smell this way. It's very exotic and grounding, sort of mysterious. This is what a wizard's house would smell like. I think it could work well for a man or a woman. Wonderful!

    The Blockhead

In the bottle: Bubblegum, we all know it. Wet: Wet the bubblegum smell, although perfect, doesn't last long at all. Immediately it starts mingling with something that reminded me of a dentist's office or blood drive, but later I was able to identify wintergreen. The wintergreen didn't bother me much in this blend because it then morphed into a men's cologne smell. If you haven't tried the Blockhead, you may be frustrated with that adjetive, but it is seriously mimicking the aftershave of a boy I dated in highschool in this particular stage. I think the aftershave was called Black Suede? Anyway it wasn't a totally pleasant association for me so I distracted myself while I waited for it to dry. Drydown: Now this is kind of nice, but very masculine. It isn't smelling like a hit-the-woman-over-the-head-cause-I'm-a-caveman-cologne anymore. It smells a little woodsy, a little like leather jacket, super masculine but in a slightly more civilized way. I tried it both on my wrist and the back of my hand to see if location could score me a longer bubblegum, but alas, they are the same. I also put some on a piece of fabric. The fabric still smells like bubblegum and wintergreen mingling. This might smell really good on my husband, but I don't think I'll get him to wear it. I'll let it age a while before I do anything rash. Also, some are compairing this to Jailbait? I would love to single out that bubblegum note and cherish it. I've tried Jailbait before but I'll need to try it one more time to see if I can get the bubblegum from a GC.

    The East

In the vial: I am detecting freshly smashed ripe blackberries and something rich and fragrant like incense. Wet: Something somewhat floral comes out, and there are herbs. This is interesting because last week when my skin chemistry was different, I was getting almost all blackberry. The floral is dominating this time. It's nice though. The incense and the floral and mixing as it dries. I can detect the blackberry more and more, but on my skin it's not as fresh and ripe as it was in the vial. Now the mint is coming out on top of it all. This one is a morpher! Dry: Mint, floral, and incense. My description isn't making it sound as wonderful as it is. I still liked it with last week's skin chemistry best, when it was blackberries, incense and magic. I'm still getting the magic, it's just very minty now. Oh wait, this is so weird. I just put some on the back of my hand instead of my wrist and it's totally different. On the back of my hand it is that rich smell amped, it amps! Blackberry, yay! Mint and blackberry make a magical pairing. I've never noticed any other fragrance be so different depending on location, other than Crumpet Rebellion. This one is so unique how it is a little foody, a little incense, and a little clean. It's so great and different. I'm going to need a bottle. Oh, I know that the blackberry I smell is actually currants, but they smell just like the wild blackberries that grew in my yard as a child.
  18. Maiden is more tea-y than potion but I recall it has a similar 'bright carnationsy-rose' feel. I have to disagree. Maiden has a lot of rose in it. People usually say Alice or Queen Alice, and I tried only one and I can't remember which. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful about the carnation. But the spices are pretty similar in Morocco.
  19. Oh and for those who love Blackberry Bomb, you should try the East. I know it's supposed to be currants but to me it smells like blackberries and it also has a floral. They will pair well together.

    Arcana

In the vial: Citrus, lavender and something I can't identify. Wet: It's the rosemary and the citrus. It's a nice citrus very bright and alert. I think I am smelling the lavender now. I think this would be a great room fragrance or men's cologne. It's a scent with a lot of energy. Sort of reminds me more of a TAL than a regular fragrance, oh it must have some common notes with hand of Hermes? It's very clean. Dry: The feeling of this is enegetic and clean. This would be perfect for some sort of energetic work that requires cleansing. When I got reiki for the first time the reiki master used a spray on her hands. This would be the ideal fragrance for something like that. Nice. *adds the imp to the frequent use pile* I can see this being something I use a lot of.

    The King of Hearts

In the vial: lavender Wet: Cherry and lavender, that's an interesting combination! There's a slightly powdery smell mingling as well which reminds me of a scratch-n-sniff book I had as a child. I think the panel I am remembering was supposed to smell like licorice. This does sort of smell like licorice, but I think it's just the cherry and lavender combo. Dry: I would have expected this one to be masculine but it's a pretty floral with a fruity quality. It's very unique. I don't know what else to say about it. It would work on a man though. ETA: This would make a lovely linen spray.

But isn't Chaste Moon pineapple and butterscotch?
  23. Just popping in to say that Violet Ray goes really well with Lilly Savon. I think I may get a bottle for my sister-in-law who loves lillies. I know that VR doesn't have lillies but I think the notes all together smell like a fresh lilly. Anyway they're both very classy.
  24. mooncityminx

    Violet Ray

In the vial: I smell the lilacs and violet. Smells good! Wet: The violet amps, I am getting the musk, and the mint is balancing it out. I love how this is reminding me ever-so-slightly of purple phoenix. They don't actually smell the same at all, but there must be one common note that is making me think "purple." Now it is almost delicately spiced lillies. To me the lilac and everything else are so balanced that is reminding me of exactly what a really fresh lilly smells like. I know there is no lilly in this, but it's still quite amazing. Drydown: Okay, so this is not the type of fragrance that I usually wear, because I rarely wear white florals, but this is the first time I've ever had a white-ish floral smell so unlike soap on my chemistry. This is very classic though. I could see giving a bottle of this to someone who is unfamiliar with bpal. In fact, I may get a bottle for someone I've been trying to enable for a while, she loves lillies. Hell, I might get a bottle of it myself, even if I don't wear it very often. It is gorgeous! Comparisons: I expected to compare this to other violet scents, but the violet does not take over the way I expected it to. I have to say it is somewhat similar to White Moon, although not the same scent. It's the same type of scent, only this one is more complex on me and fresher.

I've never found ANYTHING that smells close to the gorgeousness that is Tiki Queen, but I would love to hear if anyone else has, as well. Okay, here's the thing. Vasakasajja (which was released for Lup. 07 but not re-released this year) is very similar to Tiki Queen IMO. I actually put them on yesterday side-by-side and they were different in their phases, but one's drydown was similar to the other's wet phase. I think Vas is more floral in general, and TQ more fruity and bright. Not that this helps you, since Vas may also be hard to find at this point. Sorry. I also think TQ bears a resemblance to Spiked Punch, but again lighter and not as boozy.
