I like Cathedral more than I thought I would! I mostly smell cedar planks, but I also smell some spice or some dragon's blood resin (the non-floral version) depending on the day.
-
Dragon's Heart dries to an unappealing floral on me. Hours later it became a slightly spicy powder smell. I wanted a spicy/fruity/rich scent, but that's never what I got! I'll have to re-try this another day.
-
I'm so sad! Wrath smells spicey and clovey and good while wet, but it goes bubble-gummy as it dries! Fortunately it settles into a spicy-bubblegum scent that I like somewhat more, but the bubblegum is still to prominent. This might be a scent-locket only scent for me.
-
Once dry, this begins as pure dark musk and turns into an ambery, musky rose. It isn't my thing, but I've been told that Black Rose ages very well. Maybe I'll like it more once a year or two has passed?
-
Now this one I like! It's a softer, more melded version of the Lion. It smells strongly of cinnamon when wet, then equal parts cinnamon and amber (well blended) when dry. ETA: I tried it again today, and it's still working good. These notes or combo of notes must work well for me!

Wet: Vick's Vaporub? Dry: Vaporub and roses? I'm so glad I'm not the only one who got Vick's Vaporub out of this! Verdict: Good for a laugh! Doesn't suit my chemistry, though.

My imp is labelled "Loralei" so I'm thinking I have a fairly old imp. It's older than the name change, anyways! Imp: A non-descript smell. Maybe a bit like cleaning liquid? Wet: A generic cologne, maybe? Dry: A sweet floral. I like it more now that I can smell the ylang-ylang. Verdict: This is a light, sweet floral without much throw.
-
I got this as a sniffie from Argentwolf. In the imp, it smelled like lemongrass to me! Once I put it on, it dried into a lemony-rose. At first it was more lemon than rose; then equal parts both; and now it is more rose than lemon. I guess Libra is trying to find the best balance for me? Verdict: I like it for a rose scent. I've smelled similar scents before in other soaps and things, and I liked it then too.

Imp: Pleasant in an odd way. I think? Wet: Ew. It smells bright-pink and fake. I think it smells like a My Little Pony: girly with a hint of plastic! Moderate to strong throw, unfortunately; I don't want to smell like this. Dry: This smells like the perfumed plastic toys that I was supposed to like as a five-year-old. I didn't. Moderate-strong throw. Once it fades, the sweet floral single-note is almost pretty. Verdict: Nothing but floral on me. I guess that's peony?

In the imp: Foody in a gross kind of way. Something makes me crinkle my nose! Wet: An undefinable ugly note. As in the imp, it's foody in an unpleasant way like Penny Dreadful and Blood Kiss were. I'm not too happy about this. Dry: Yeah, there's something about this that makes me recoil. I can smell it strongly when my arm is down even though I applied it to my elbow. I remember liking Penny Dreadful and Blood Kiss hours after they died down, so perhaps the same will happen here. In the meantime, I'm not thrilled. Verdict: I want to like this. I smell potential in there. I keep telling myself that the ugly note is "spicy," but no, it's gross.

I keep wanting to say that "it's not me," but I also keep lifting my wrist to my nose. This has been going on for 40 minutes now. Clearly there's something in this scent that I like! In bottle: A slightly aquatic, citrusy floral Wet: Mostly citrus. Not particularly strong, and without very much throw. Dry: At first it was too plain for me, but gradually some of the florals came back. The citrus became refreshing in a feel-good kind of way, and the floral started to smell like ylang-ylang. The throw is very light and stays that way. As I wear it, scents keep coming and going. I keep thinking that I smell a different flower. Once I got a brief whiff of a salty water smell that I loved! It's pleasant, delicious, feminine, and calming. It's cool in a warm way, or warm in a cool way, like skin that as been cooled by the water. I keep drifting off while I smell it: it smells like a woman on a lazy summer day! Even the strength of the scent adds to that: it's perfect when I rest my chin on my hands! Verdict: Danube smells like an essential oil blend from a health shop, but something about it draws me back...

No problem! (Well, one problem: now my wishlist doubled! )

As creamy spicy florals go, Alice and Queen Alice come to mind. ETA: Searching this thread for the scents you listed gave me some other ideas, too. I'm not familiar with any of these, so YMMV! Cool, a Changeling player! Give them my regards; I'm a consummate White Wolf fan. Destroying Angel is my favorite damp scent. It's inspired by a mushroom, and literally smells like one to me. I don't think I'm alone, either: "Fits Description?: Yes. Wow." - Kikkervisje "Very, very much like moist earth and rotting plants." - Invidiana "There is a definite dustiness to the soil note; it's more like aged, dried dirt, like you'd find in a basement." -QueenFae "I'd get wafts from it and just cringe. I mean, you shouldn't smell like mushrooms and my natural reaction is "oh god, what's growing on me?!"" - CaffinatedAngel Failing that, most of the "dirt" type scents would probably work. I'll go run a search and see if any others ring bells. ETA: Here's some others that could be interesting: Black Annis Burial Deep in Earth Yorick -
Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
furiana replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I'm trying to match Nina Ricci's Nina. I especially want to match the way it smells after a full 8 hours of wear: soft, silky, and warm with a hint of sweetness. The apple is nice, but this lingering scent is the part that I adore. It's very warm, not very dry, and very much a second-skin scent by then! I assume that the base notes are what I'm smelling, but there's enough sweetness to make me wonder if the other notes are lingering. In any case, these are the notes in the perfume: This fresh floral citrus scent for her presents a delicious mix of fresh lemon and lime over a sweet heart of moonflower, apple and vanilla. Applewood, cedarwood and musk bring up a sultry base as the drydown to this enticing and magical mixture. Does anyone have any ideas? -
Uuuugh. Blood Kiss has something in it that Penny Dreadful does, some note or combination of notes, and I do *not* like it. I remember liking this scent a long time after applying it, but I'm not sure it's worth waiting for.
-
There is something in this that I hate. I have no idea what it is, nor do I want to know. Whatever it is, the wintergreen makes it even worse. Not a scent for me.
-
I wanted so badly to like this one! For a little while, it smells like I hoped it would -- an awesome combo of lemon and rose -- but first it smells like powdery lemon cleaner, and at the end it smells like powdery rose. The lemon/rose combination lasts half an hour at most! I like it alright in my hair, but I don't think it'll ever be what I hoped.

Mm mmmm, do I love the aquatic in this scent! Water and old-fashioned perfume, that's what's left lingering after several hours of scent. Bayou started off as mainly floral on me, with a sour note that I didn't recognize but rather liked. It dried down to a distinctly old-fashioned floral that I also didn't recognize. It's definitely not rose. I don't think it's lillies. I don't think it's jasmine either, but maybe it is and I don't recognize it now that the note is blended with the aquatics. Whatever it is, it's melded with the aquatics by now to become a single old-fashioned scent. Old-fashioned. I keep using that adjective. Since I shy away from "stereotypical old lady" scents and others may too, let me say that Bayou is old-fashioned like the idealized South: slow, warm, and full of grace! In short, Bayou is totally different from my usual warm/dry/slightly sweet scents. No matter. It's unusual, it's calming, and it has a place in my heart right next to them!

Like kettu keiju said in her review, Scherezade smells generic until the saffron kicks in. I like the smell of generic incense, but I wouldn't wear it; the saffron is what makes me reconsider. I do like it enough to use up the imp, and depending on how it ages, I might like it enough to get a 5mL bottle. We'll see!
-
This smells like bathroom spray to me; there's nothing else to it. The throw was WAY too strong. I only applied it to one wrist, and it had more throw than Lion on *both* wrists and *both* ankles. o.o; That said, I do like this scent after it fades a lot. I would wear it in diluted form, perhaps spritzed on my clothes, but I wouldn't wear this straight as a perfume.
-
This is my favorite that I've tried so far! The Lion a very simple scent on me, but oh, do I love amber and cinnamon together! Both notes are present at first. Once it dries, the Lion turns into cinnamon with a wisp of amber; after several hours, amber is the note that lingers. Delightful. ETA: 6 hours later, and the amber's still there! I have to hold my wrist against my nose to smell it, though. It'll be gone in another hour. ETA2: It's still here, after a total of 9 1/2 hours! In the heat of late summer, too! Guess I know what note to look for if I want a long-lasting scent

I.... I LIKE this one! I can't believe it. The scent disgusted me when I first opened the bottle; there's some note in here, one used in Blood Kiss, that smelled just horrible when wet. But, Blood Kiss turned lovely once it dried, so I thought I'd try Penny Dreadful... I'm so glad I did! Now the earth-note is grounded as ground should be, supporting the other notes instead of covering them. And oh, the top notes! I have no idea what they are, but they're so warm. Warm like heated food. Wet: Gack! Overwhelming, awful combination of dirt and food. (Trodden-upon tidbits? Heh. Not quite.) Unhappily, lots of throw. Dry (10 minutes later): Rich, warm, and beautifully earthy. Not much throw, but that's no surprise; scents tend to become second skins on me. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I recommend this scent!

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Lovely locket! That really *isn't* much oil, though. portalkat's lotion idea is a good one -- it'd be easy to weaken the scent enough, I think -- and hopefully diluting the BPAL will let you keep using the scent locket! -

Well... how much scent are you using? You can always try putting less oil on the fabric, or using a smaller/less absorbant piece of fabric. ETA: Or you could dilute the oils with a carrier oil. That would make them weaker and longer lasting!
