    The Memory of Primal Secrets

The only way I know to describe the smell of this is Rotting Incense - if that makes sense? There is something aquatic underneath but it's dark, stagnant aquatic. The combo of notes is literally making me sick to my stomach and I have to scrub it off.

    Snow White

2013 Version: I've heard alot of good things about prior versions of Snow White so I thought I'd take a chance even though the notes were not appealing (florals often react badly with my skin chemistry). Well, the Lab knows how to throw a curve ball because this is my very favorite of the Yule scents. Its more surprising still because I'm not into super feminine scents - this one is all girl. Its snow, light florals, with an almond-coconut something going on. Superb!

    Whispers of Monstrous Things

This one's not good. It doesn't morph at all. Just stays the same throughout. It smells sickly, salty, rotten. There's a Fishiness about this blend but not fresh fish. More like it's been laying around for awhile.

    Village Legend Lives Long

The Frankincense is strong in this blend. It dries down to a super dark, murky incense. I like it but not enough for a bottle. The decant will do.

    Gingerbread Satyr

The GC scent Satyre goes really masculine on me but the Gingerbread in this scent adds something that rounds it out and makes it more unisex. In the decant: Sexy Red Musk Wet Stage: Very strong Musk and Pine Dry Stage: Musks take center stage blending nicely with Ginger and Cinnamon. Underneath that is an earthy pine. This is absolutely sexy. I will have to get a bottle.

Mother Shub's Pumpkin Pecan Treacle Tarts

Like MuskWitch I can smell this one through the bubble wrap. When I unwrap it - Hello, PECAN! In the Bottle: Pecan and sweetness. I'm just gonna barely dab this on. It's strong. Wet Stage: Pecan, pecan, pecan. It smells dark too. Dry Stage: Pecan is definitely the top note in this blend. I get Treacle swirling around, dark and smokey. Sometimes I think I get the tiniest hint of Pumpkin or maybe that's because I want to smell Pumpkin. I can't be sure. After awhile I get the pastry underneath but it is a burnt pastry. Conclusion: This is the first foody scent of the Lab's I've tried that I would put in the Masculine category. I'm betting this would smell heavenly on my BF. Aside from trying this on a male, I'll keep experimenting with this scent. Maybe layering it with something more feminine like O will round it out. I do like this scent; it has potential but It's just too masculine as is.

    The Visionary

In the bottle: Cold and herbal. The faintest trace of musk. Wet Stage: This one's a morpher. As soon as it hits my skin its all heather, peat, and light honey. The coolness of the iced peat starts amping up. Sort of smells like morning frost dusting a meadow. Pretty soon after that the musks are fighting to get noticed. Dry Stage: I don't know if its that the Red Musk is Honeyed or if its the White/Red musk combo but the musks stay in the background. I love musk and I love the way it normally amps on me but I have been searching for a scent where the musk is present but stays in the background. There is something about this blend that prevents the musks from becoming the dominant notes. This scent is soooo wonderful. I smell wood, soil, herbs, heather with just a touch of distant muskiness. This scent is cool and moist. I only have a decant of this and now I'll have to buy a bottle.

    Braving the Ice

I was expecting to love this since foody scents usually work so well on me. Braving the Ice is just not that great. Wet Stage: There is something in this blend that amps like crazy. I can't really pinpoint what it is because there are no spice notes mentioned in the description. This note that amps up smells like a spice of some kind, nutmeg maybe? It's pretty bad though, in a nausea inducing way. Dry Stage: That amped-up note dies down and I can smell the cream and the cookies but it fades to nothing in a few minutes. It's too bad because dry this smells nice while it lasts.

    Horror Unthinkable and Unexpected

I wasn't expecting to be too impressed by this but it's nicer than I thought it would be. This dried down into a dark and sweet smelling incense with lemon and herbs. I'm glad I have a decant.

    Placophobia

This really is wet stone and dirt. It starts off similar to Graveyard Dirt but as it dries down there is less dirt and more stone plus dried out floral. The thing that's odd is I'm getting a boozy note. Not sure what's causing that. It's an odd scent, in a good way. I was afraid that this might end up like Zombi or Graveyard Dirt but this is a scent unlike those two. I'm very happy with this.

    Noctiphobia

This one is so hard for me to pinpoint. I get mint, dark (maybe blue or purple) florals, wood. It's so well blended. Smells sophisticated. I get an image of a cool breeze on a crisp night. That breeze carries the scent of the locale with it...herbs, flowers, leaves, ect... A soft scent. I love it.
  12. This! When I tried Bien Loin D'Ici from a frimp I thought it was just okay and a bit overpowering. But, woohoo, does it get the guys stirred up. I had the menfolk following me around and even getting a bit inappropriate. So, after that reaction I had to buy a bottle Definitely a scent when you want to get noticed!

A Great White Church Atmosphere Spray

This smells identical to the Lab's GC scent Serpent's Kiss which I LOVE. The spices are definitely the same and there's the Dragon's Blood. It's got some nice throw. I gave two spritzes to my bed linens and I can smell it all over the room and a bit down the hall. If you love Serpent's Kiss give this a try.

    September Midnight

The Lab's Pom works beautifully on me and there are no dreaded death notes, so I thought I would love this. I was further convinced because the wet stage is autumn pomegranate. So lovely. But on the dry down there's a floral that I don't care for. And, I'm rather "Meh" about the scent. I will often test a scent in the Morning, on my way to work just to see what a scent does during the course of the day. Even though I'm not personally thrilled with this scent I got a lot of compliments from folks at work. So, do I keep it or not? I'm still on the fence and will test it out a few more times. Also, going to test it out in my oil diffuser since I love the wet stage.

    Eldritch Dark

My, this is a perverse little scent. Yes, that kind of perverse. So, so Sexy! There wasn't a moment's hesitation when I saw the scent description. I bought a bottle right away knowing I would love it. In the bottle: Black leather and a hint of musk. Wet Stage: Whoa, leather and more leather. Dry Stage: Usually I amp red musk like mad. Not this time. Leather and rose co-mingle at the top and the musks just sorta seep through. Rounding out the blend is a light, honey sweetness. The feel of this is intriguing and dark. Me like very much.

    So Below

This is my favorite of the Haute Macabre scents! Dries down to a dark and mysterious scent. Musky, black coconut is at the front with an dark, earthy resinous base. The cardamon lends a bit of spice to round it out. This one's a keeper along with the rest of the Haute Macabre line. I'm going to have to try layering them as some of the reviews have suggested.

    As Above

I'm a big fan of the original HM so I knew I had to get her younger sisters, As Above & So Below. So, I tested all three of them side by side. I agree with some reviewers; there are similarities between HM and AA. As Above dries down to a slightly lighter fragrance than the original. Where HM ends up a creamy almond/coconut/leather with a hint of earth; AA dries down to leather, earth, and a sharp almond scent with woodsy, floral undertones. Really love this blend for days when I want something lighter but I still want the leather (usually I amp leather like crazy, but not with AA). Most certainly keeping the bottle.

    Und wir Dachten der Toten

Decant: Why am I smelling Dark Chocolate? Weird. Maybe there is something wrong with my nose? Wet Stage: Still Chocolate...But wait. Oooooh! There's that lovely Patchouli. I'm getting a hint of spices too, but not in-your-face spices. These are mellow. Very nice. Dry Stage: Damn, what is it with the chocolate scent? I've never tried a scent with either Raw Coffee Beans or Himalayan Spices, so maybe this is how those notes translate on my skin. The chocolate is more of a dark and bitter variety. I get a wee bit of coffee and a huge dollop of cream; all sprinkled with a beautiful, toned-down spice blend. The scent is rounded out by a base that is smokey and earthy so the blend doesn't get too foody. This is a fantastic scent. I'm going to have to get a bottle before the update goes down.

    Haunted Houses

In the decant: More of a feeling than a scent. It feels cold. Wet Stage: Light musk, moldering wood and stone. Dry Stage: I would say this qualifies as one of those White Noise fragrances. It's evocative of a cool, dark, abandoned building. It has a vaporous ethereal quality to it which does make this a haunting scent. Been waiting for a scent like this. I love, love, love!

    Goblin Market

In the decant: An autumn harvest of fruit Wet stage: Pretty much the same except apples come to the top. They smell like Macintosh apples. Dry stage: This doesn't really morph at all. It's not a scent I would use often but I will keep the decant to experiment with layering. Overall, a very nice scent.

Snake Oil in the Pumpkin Patch

In the Decant: Yep, Snake Oil Wet Stage: Snake Oil with pumpkin and spices. Dry Stage: This one doesn't morph at all. Which is great because I love this scent from first sniff. The pumpkin scent doesn't appear to be a fresh pumpkin but rather more of a pumpkin pie. Unlike other reviews, I am getting a pretty strong vanilla rounding everything out. I need to get a bottle and a backup of this before it's all gone.

    Ooky

Ooky is an apt name since it's kinda a Kooky scent. In the bottle: unidentifiable baked goods and candy-ish. Wet stage: Morphs from super duper pumpkin spices into almondy smelling dough. Dry stage: An astounding metamorphosis into spicy, autumn, creamy, sweet baked goods with almond slivers on top. And, it smells like it just came out of the oven. How is that possible? YUMMY! I seriously want to nibble on my wrists. Smells foody and warm and sexy! Oh my F***ing God! Delicious!

    The Great Sword of War

Surprised I haven't reviewed this until now. TGSOW was the first frimp I ever tried from the lab, immediately fell in love, and bought a bottle. Now I'm glad I waited. The oil has aged nicely into a dar copper, syrupy thick liquid. In the Bottle: Mandarin and Red Musk heaven Wet Stage: This morphs quite a bit. While the Mandarin and Musk are always present I get a hint of something medicinal (not in a bad way). It must be the 5 herbs of conflict that's causing the medicinal smell. Saffron and Black Tea come out next pretty sharply and then fade into the background. Dry Stage: Everything comes together. The scent takes on a sweetness that I attribute to the Cocoa. Tonka comes into play softening up what might otherwise be a scent that is too sharp. Verdict: I love this scent more now that it is aged. I get why this is called The Great Sword of War. On my skin the notes seem to 'war' with each other bright and astringent vs. dark and mellow. Huff it once and I get all bright citrus. Huff it a second time, I get musky sweetness. Huff it a third time and I get smoky tea and herbs. This scent is strong and has tons of staying power. A little goes a long way.

    Thanatopsis

In the wet stage Thanatopsis smells just like Czernobog but lighter. That's fine because Czernobog is one of my top three scents. The problem is the dry down. While Czernobog goes all dark, sexy musk on me; Thanatopsis just dries out and practically disappears. What little I do sniff is very cheap cologne. Too bad.
