Until last night, I had not tried Tombstone for a few years. I love the vanilla in it and I think that so far, this is my favorite BPAL blend for that note. I think that I need a bottle of this.

There is Regan as well......I'm too lazy to see if anyone recommended it before. "Regan, from Illyria: A deceptively sweet orchid vanille with a faint trace of stephanotis."

Here is the link to the post from the mod. " I've noticed that people are recommending non-BPAL perfumes in their posts here a little more often lately. This really isn't appropriate here, and I'd like to ask you all to keep such discussions of other brands in the subforum designated for them, Retail Therapy, from now on. (This does not apply to posts seeking BPAL scents that are similar to a favorite perfume from another source - those continue to be welcome, of course.) Recs is part of the section of subforums dedicated to Lab discussion, and its intent is for members to be able to seek others' advice about BPAL blends they aren't familiar with themselves. For another member to respond to a request by recommending a scent from a department store line, another e-tailer, or any source other than the Lab is a bit disrespectful of this subforum's purposes, the Lab, and the original poster, who came here looking for BPAL recs. Please feel free to PM me if you have any comments or questions about this or other issues in Recommendations. I don't feel like this is a huge problem yet, and I'm certainly not angry with anyone who may have done this previously. However, since we now have over 6000 members and are adding new members every day, I felt that spelling this guideline out was important. Thanks, everyone, for your enthusiastic participation in Recommendations!"

We aren't supposed to talk about other companies on this thread, but you might want to check in the Bath, Beauty and Beyond subforum and ask for vanilla recommendations there - or, there might already be a thread. I am always on the hunt for my perfect vanilla, so I would be interested as well.

Scents for Depression - when you're down and need a boost
portalkat replied to aurore's topic in Recommendations
As for scent, you might want to choose something that evokes happy or calming memories. For me, that might be an aquatic-type scent since I find the ocean very comforting and calming. BPAL is so great for evocative scents that there would be plenty to choose from - carnivals, meadows, temples - you know, whatever might take you to a calm and comfortable place. -
I am absolutely in love with Strawberry Moon 2009. It reminds me of my parents back yard when I was growing up with the strawberry patch next to the lawn because it picks up notes of both......including the dandelions which I neglected to catch while I was weeding with my mother. The throw is rather deceiving because, although it is not huge, it swirls around and I can smell the strawberries all day long. It also sticks around for a long time and I wake up in the morning smelling the fruit to start my day. I think that I just might need another bottle of this beauty.

Oh, darn......I thought that I could do without Lilith and the Jarocho because I have no money, but how can I pass up little Lilith on the label. Thanks for posting pics, everyone.

Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?

I placed my Strawberry Moon order on 5/11 and rec'd the CnS yesterday that it was actually shipping yesterday. -
Love a Victoria's Secret fragrance? Looking for a BPAL cousin to it?

Duuuuude check out how much that $#!+ goes for on ebay! It's unbelievable! If you ever need a couple bucks and you're not attached to that bottle, throw it up for bids and you'll get money for it, even if it is half used : -) *stares at collection of Tranquil Breezes and runs to check out ebay* I bought Green Phoenix because of the TB connection, but I do have a partial bottle of Earth Rat that I'm going to try layering over it. I don't often desire the melon thing, but sometimes it is something that I look for. -
BPAL oils that repel bugs, flies, mosquitoes, bees, insects?
portalkat replied to Mrs.Black's topic in Recommendations
I need to get Pain. I was going to leave out "to get," but I didn't want to tempt fate. I have a bug repellent from someone on Etsy and it seems to work for fleas as well. It smells of lavender, but I don't know if it has pennyroyal in it and her description does not list any notes. I should ask her. Pennyroyal also will work to take the itch out of the bite, but lavender works for that purpose as well. -
I'm so glad to see this thread because I have been on a huge coconut kick lately and I like anything with vanilla. Funny thing is that last night, I was thinking about having a custom coconut/vanilla/sandalwood/sugar blend made up for me. I had completely forgotten about my bottles of Brown Jenkins and Death Adder which are both heavy on the coconut. I am going to be positively dripping in coconutty goodness.

BPAL oils that repel bugs, flies, mosquitoes, bees, insects?

This is actually not correct. Lavender is a natural mosquito and moth repellent. Hmmm, I wonder how it does with fleas.....must figure that out...... -
I just put some Thalassa on so that I could give you my thoughts on it and it isn't heavy on the jasmine. It's mainly an aquatic with a little feminine vibe floating on the breeze. Oh, and I'm sure that your firstborn will be relieved to know that they aren't that expendable.
-
Jarvenpa, have you tried Thalassa the Galapagos Mermaid from Carnival Diabolique? It's a lovely aquatic.

After six months, this baby has come into her own. I like both Snake Oil and Dorian, but neither is my holy grail of scents and when my bottle first arrived from the lab, I could smell both of those as well as the lavender. I liked it, but didn't love it and I haven't worn it since the day that I got it, but I wanted to put on a lavender blend when I went to bed last night. Wow, I was so surprised because the whole is now greater than the sum of its parts. This is no longer Snake Oil and Dorian with other notes added. Lilith Victoria has come into her own and developed her own unique personality. To think that I almost had sold this poor neglected bottle.......now, I am thinking about tracking another bottle down.

I have a collection of all the other "13" blends, so although the notes for this one did not entice me, I had to order it anyway. Well, this is one of my favorites even though the chocolate is not the focal point. This is heavy on the ginger and nutmeg and has sort of a deep smoky edge to it. The brown sugar and the tonka do a good job of sweetening things up and I absolutely love this.

I wasn't sure if the single note vanilla to which you referred was in reference to the now discontinued BPAL single notes, but they are gone except for some that you might see in the swap lists. This thread is only for recommendations for BPAL, so I won't go into vanilla notes offered by other companies, but sometimes I layer things with Midway. Unfortunately, it is an LE, although you might see it for sale or swap occasionally and it has been brought back before as a resurrected scent. I only have the original, but I did read reviews where some found the original to be more vanilla than the resurrected scent.

I am a dork. I typed out Perilous Parlour in my post up above, but I really meant Forbidding Foyer. I am so glad, FsP that you brought me to my senses. *runs off to fix mistake*
-
Some of the favorites that I can think of right now are Cathedral, Anne Bonny, Forbidding Foyer, Pulcinella and Teresina and Carceri d'Invenzione
-
My Schwarzer Mond from the first release is very, very thick as is my Snake Charmer from a few years ago. I do have some really thick sludgy Smut, Sin and Pulcinella & Teresina as well.
-
I got this directly from the Trading Post way back when, but never took the time to review it. For me this is really True Love. I love the lab's deep, nutty patchouli and it is really evident here. Then you add in the interesting combination of florals and fruits and it turns into something magnificent. It is very elegant, but in true BPAL/BTPT fashion.
-
It was an unreleased gift scent. The review thread is here.

portalkat replied to Snow White's topic in BPAL FAQs
Oh, yes, no problem. The Yules will be available for order until end of the day of the 15th. -
Oh, thank you! Those are so great.

I noticed that the price is not $6.99, but 6.99 pounds sterling, but that still comes out to only about $10.50, so............yeah, wtf?!?!
