#20 LOVE OIL at first: i smell that same maraschino cherries smell as in black phoenix, but with something else a little more biting. nice. on: still the sweetness from the cherries, but now with more of a floral edge to it. very nice. an hour later: wow, this is almost gone. it smells a littler more herbal-floral, which is nice. unfortunately, it’s getting a weird generic perfume powdery-ness to it, which i do not like. 2 hours later: nothing. it’s completely gone. overall: definitely won’t be buying this one. in fact, i think i’m going to be swapping the imp’s ear i have.

mind if i hijack? i'm also looking for work. i lost my job at the end of 2003 and have only gotten one nibble so far. i have an mba ( ) and am looking for an administrative or coordinator-type position at a non-profit or a university. i like organizing things and coordinating people, and am very strong analytically. can any recommend any scents for me?

PHANTASM at first: a masculine smell. a bit spicy. i may smell some apple at the very end. weird and biting. actually, i may smell some pine or lemon. on: ok, so is it pine or lemon? i cannot place this at all. there's a lot going on around it. yes, it was lemon. 1 hour later: this is fading fast. i think i like it, but i'm not sure. overall: wouldn't purchase this one again. i wish citrus scents had more staying power in general, though.

OLD PORT-AU-PRINCE at first: fruity, but...salty. weird, but in a good way. a bit sweet, too. on: hmmm...a bit spicy, in a xmas-y / thanksgiving-y kind of way. like spiced fruits...or something. 4 hours later: it's changed quite a bit. more a a general floral / spicy smell. i'm not sure if i like it. i'll ask my gf what she thinks of it when she gets home. overall: ok. not reallly "me", if you know what i mean. it's nice. i'm not sure if i'll be keeping this one. i may see if my gf wants it.

BLOOD at first: sweet, almost maraschino cherry-like, but with a bite to it. on: reminds me a lot of BLACK PHOENIX, but with a darker undertone to it. 1 hour later: the scent has mellowed out a lot and is much lighter, but still has a darkly sweet, full scent. overall: i don't think i'd every buy this one, since it's so similar to BLACK PHOENIX and i like that better. however, i'll definitely be using up my imp's ear.

AKUMA at first: i think i like it, but i can't place what it smells like. i might be getting some apple or grape. hmmm... on: i don't know why, but this scent just seems so weird to me. ok, i looked it up and it has blood orange, neroli, and raspberry. that is a rather different combination. i think i like this one, but i'm not sure. one hour later: it's growing on me. in fact, it's perfect for the sunny, warm weather we're having at this moment. a great spring / summer scent, i think. overall: this lingered beautifully on my skin. it's just so wonderfully different from just about anything i've ever smelled. i may end up getting 5ml of this once i'm done with my imp's ear.

at first: leather, all right. definitely leather. on: ummm...yeah. leather. that's all. it's...ok. i don't hate it, but...i definitely don't like it, either. overall: this scent is so incredibly not me that it isn't even getting a full review. i'm sure it would smell fabulous on the right person. unfortunately, that person is obviously not me.

at first: i'm smelling maraschino cherries and...that's all. interesting. on: yeah, it's definitely maraschino cherries. weird. there's something else there. more floral. i'm liking it so far. 1 hour later: i've been doing a lot of cleaning (imagine!), so this is fading fast. i'm going to have to reapply. 3 hours later: now the scent is more floral (with a bit of musk, perhaps?), and the sweetness is more in the background. it's nice. 5 hours later: the scent is more even now (a little sweet, a little floral, a little musky). however, it is also really light. too light for me. overall: i like this, but i wish it didn't develop the way it did on me. i won't be getting a bigger bottle of this, but i'll probably use up my imp's ear.

at first: roses. very nice. can also smell something else; not sure if it is the amber or the musk. on: smells wonderful. very sexy and feminine. bpal does a fabulous job with its roses. 7 hours later: i can still smell it, which is pretty amazing. i mostly smell roses, but the scent is more full than that. i can only assume that i'm smelling some of the other scents in the background. overall: i'm going to try a whole lot of the other rose scents before getting a 5ml of this. however, it is quite lovely.

at first: this is really nice. foody, but nice. it smells exactly like pumpkin pie to me. i can't wait to wear it. on: fabulous. smells just like pumpkin pie on. 1/2 hour later: the nutmeg is coming forward more. the scent has faded quite a bit. 4 hours later: still fabulous. spicy and pumpkin-y. i love it. my girlfriend says it smells like xmas. i think it was just my nose before, because i can really smell it now. overall: i got 5ml of this (for free from a fabulous forumite) and i will probably be buying 10ml. lovely. it goes really well with lush's chai, potion, and ginger dusting powder.

at first: all i'm smelling is pine. lots and lots of pine. this may end up being a nice, butch scent when i'm in that kind of mood. on: yup, definitely pine. there's something else there. there's something floral and something...almost salty. i'm liking it. 1 hour later: i can smell the slightest hint of something sweet underneath the original pine/floral scent. i'm still liking it. 2 hours later: this stuff is great. it's still piney, but has mellowed out and seems to have a bit of sweet and spicy floral underneath. wonderful. 5.5 hours later: the smell has mellowed quite a bit. the pine isn't in my face as much, and it's mixed in with the sweet and spicy floral smell. very nice. what i wish "men's" cologne smelled like. overall: i probably won't be buying a whole 5ml of this. however, if i don't find something that smells "butchy" to me that i like better, i'll probably grab another imp's ear of it when i finish this one.

at first: smells almost fruity. also, sugary. on: i understand why this is one of bpal's most popular fragrances. it's lovely: floral, but in a spicy way, and a bit sweet. however, the sweetness isn't an in-your-face kind of a sweet; it's there, but it seems to serve more to pull the fragrance together. i'm really liking this. 3.5 hours later: fabulous. definitely sweeter than at first, but still wonderful. overall: i really like this. i'm glad elizabeth tossed it in as a sample. i'll probably be getting 5ml of this.

at first: a wonderful garden. on: this goes on a bit too generic perfume-y for my tastes. what i mean is that it smells to me like a floral perfume i would find anywhere, from department stores to drug stores. 2 hours later: i really love this. it smells subtley of a bunch of different flowers (i think i detect a bit of violet, perhaps.), but also like grass or other greenery. 5 hours later: it's definitely still there, but...maybe a bit to light for my tastes. overall: a lovely green floral scent. i probably won't buy it again, but i'll definitely use up the imp's ear that i have.

at first: ok, it smells like a stripper chewing on some of the hard pink bubble gum from the 80s. it's sexy, yet playful. on: wow. i like this. it's still bright, pink bubble gum-y, but it's also kind of dirty, if that makes any sense. i can pick out the clove and the black rose and what i think is the dark musk. seriously, i'm loving it. 5.5 hours later: still lovely. not as sweet as before. the rose is dominant now, with the clove warming it up. i'm going to a concert tonight, so i'll be reapplying before we head out. overall: i wouldn't buy a whole 5ml of this, but i may get another imp's ear of it once i run out. very sexy in a fun and dirty kind of a way. note: i CANNOT wear this right before getting my period because it turns into the harshest, most synthetic-smelling flowers. yuck. skin chemistry is so interesting.
