masquerade at first: incredibly heavy. like moving through a smoky fog. at the very end, i think i smell some orange rind. not very nice. i'm pretty sure i won't like this. on: weird. i can smell the patchouli, which is nice, but can't really pick anything else out. interesting. 1 hour later: there's something a bit salty about this that i don't like. it's masking the other scents. 3 hours later: sweeter. more of a powdery floral. overall: this does not work on me. i wonder if it's the ambergris. i'll be getting rid of my imp.

umbra at first: heavy, in the same way the three jacks is heavy. i don't think i like this. on: very, very thick and heavy. a bit like cigarette smoke. a bit like alcohol. 3 hours later: wow. this is completely different. a very sharp, biting floral. almost painful to smell. 8 hours later: softer. barely there. fading has been the best thing this oil has done on my skin. overall: i don't like this at all. i'll be getting rid of my imp.

undertow at first: the lab included this as an extra. this is beautiful. watery and a bit sweet. i think i'm really going to like this one. on: i think i'm smelling pine or something like pine, with a watery floral underneath. very interesting and beautiful. 1 hour later: now, all i'm getting is lotus and mint. very nice. still watery. 2 hours later: lighter, but still lotus and mint. very nice. 4 hours later: still loving it. much lighter, but still watery, floral, and minty. overall: i love this. it may end up being a bottle purchase after i use up my imp.

djinn at first: it definitely smells like smoke and ashes. very burnt. however, there's a touch of something else to it, too. possibly pepper. a very different scent. on: men's cologne. pungent and sharp, with a hint of smokiness. 1 hour later: still pungent, but with a bit of fruit to it. however, there's an overall feeling of something burning. interesting. 2 hours later: smokier. there's still that pungent, cologne note. 4 hours later: pretty much gone, but there's still a hint of fruit. overall: this is really different from any of the other oils i have. i think this will be good once in a while.

chaos theory lxxxiii at first: thie is a really, really sweet, candied fruit scent. i think there may be something a bit earthier underneath, but the sweet scent is too strong for me to be sure. it's a thick, syrupy scent. on: wow. syrupy sweet candy and fruit. almost like red licorice. 1 hour later: really, really nice. like the way dried fruits taste. 2 hours later: wonderful. syrupy. i relaly like this! 4 hours later: much, much lighter and softer. overall: beautiful. i'm glad i got an imp of this chaos theory. it'll be great when i want something sweet. chaos theory cxxii at first: a very powerful peppermint. biting. this is very strong. on: a billion types of mint. very watery. refreshing and wonderful. 1 hour later: mint! lots and lots of mint. that's all, but it's lovely. 2 hours later: mint, mint, mint. this is really nice. it's still pretty strong. 4 hours later: still pretty strong. all mint. overall: this is fabulous. i'm really impressed by how the mint lasted, since it tends to fade on me. i'm glad i got an imp of this. intrigue at first: this is another oil that beth included that i never would have picked for myself. it smells mostly of damp wood. it's interesting. on: hmmm. i don't know. it smells sexy, but i'm not sure if i like it. kind of like generic perfume, but with some sweetness, possibly fruity, thrown in. the floral in this is quite biting. there's a lot going on. i think my nose in confused. 1 hour later: my skin has, once again, sweetened an oil. however, there is a bit of woodiness (if that's a word) to it, too, which is different and very, very nice. i'm still not sure if i like it very much, though. 3 hours later: the biting floral is still there. there's also the sweet note, which really helps to cut down the harshness of the floral. 5 hours later: really, really beautiful. like a really, really sweet pomegranate. there is still a hint of flowers, but they're in the background. 7 hours later: thicker and sweeter. very nice. overall: this just isn't for me. i'll be swapping it.

juliet at first: really nice. very white. i smell lily and heliotrope. on: sweet pea and something else that is more soapy. nice and innocent. 1 hour later: fresher and lighter. nice. sweet pea and something else, but not the soapy note from when i first applied it. 4 hours later: sweeter now, like a drop of honey has been added. this is really pretty. 8 hours later: still there, surprisingly. i really thought this one would disappear. it's still slightly sweet, but dusty. overall: i really like this. all in all, it's a very gentle scent that somehow manages to last a long time. i'm not sure i will end up getting a bottle, but i'll enjoy using my imp.

moon rose at first: mostly, i smell rose, but a white rose. it's a very watery scent, which is great. on: rose, but more watery. it's sweeter than roses, too. nice. 1 hour later: a watery, powdery rose. the sweetness is still there. 3 hours later: this is going a bit too soapy. it smells like white roses. overall: this is nice, but i think i'll have to be in the mood for it. i probably won't get it again.

red devil at first: fabulous. sweet, like pink bubblegum, a bit of liquor, and something i can't quite place. a "dirtier" version of formula 54, definitely sexy and fun. on: hmmm...i can't really pick the notes out. a bit fruity and herbal, perhaps? 1 hour later: i smell somthing kind of weird. it might just be an unfamiliar fruit. interesting, but i'm not sure if i mean that in a good way. 3 hours later: a lot lighter. an odd scent. overall: i'll need to try this out for its intended use. i wouldn't repurchase based on scent alone, though.

black rose at first: roses, roses, roses. also, a dark touch of musk. this may be a bit too rosy for me, though. on: just roses. not one rose, a bunch of roses. i feel incredibly feminine in this. there's also something deeper, with a bit of green. 1 hour later: still a green rose. nice, but not as interesting as before. 1.5 hours later: much lighter, but still just as rosey. nice. 3 hours later: very nice. sweeter, but powdery and a bit green. overall: this is a fabulous, simple rose blend. i probably wouldn't buy this again, but it will be nice from time to time.

magdalene at first: hmmm...slightly spicy, slightly salty. i don't think i'm going to like this one? on: uh oh. i think i smell some kind of wood. i think i smell citrus or something, too. i don't like this. 1 hour later: warmer. interesting, but i'm not sure what it smells like. 3 hours later: very odd. maybe i'm smelling the labdanum. i don't like this. overall: this just doesn't work on me. i'll be swapping this.

swallow's blood at first: very sweet. i think i'm just smelling dragon's blood. i like this. on: this is great. calming, but refreshing. it's a bit sweet, but mostly very light. it reminds me of dragon's tears, but even more watery. half an hour later: wow...this is a lot fuller now. lovely. it's a bit soapy, but not too much. i really like this. 1 hour later: more soapy floral, but still mostly that light, watery sweetness. 2 hours later: this is more floral now, but is still holding onto that sweet, watery scent. this is lovely. 4 hours later: much, much lighter. tending toward getting powdery, but still a bit aquatic. overall: this is wonderful. i'll probably only use it for its intended purposes, especially for travelling.

ave maria gratia plena at first: this was a freebie from the lab. i can't really pick anything out of this scent. i guess i can smell a bit of floral, but that's about all. i'm not sure about this one. on: i think i smell the lemon peel, watery florals, and something else i can't quite place. this is lovely. half an hour later: all sorts of woods and flowers together. i can't pick the individual notes out, but it's very pretty. 1 hour later: this is still beautiful. i'm picking the jasmine out more, but there are definitely a lot of other scents around it. 2 hours later: this smells richer now, almost like chocolate. it's a little sweeter, but heavier, too. this is very nice. 4 hours later: even sweeter, like honey. this is lovely. overall: this is really interesting. i love how it changes while i wear it. i probably wouldn't have picked this out on my own. i'll enjoy using my imp, but i'll have to see whether it grows on me before committing to a bottle.

dissipation at first: a bonus imp from the lab, this is sweet, biting, and something that seems even a little bit fruity. very interesting. on: wow. this is great! very fruity. green, too, but in a tart sort of way. half an hour later: weird. i think i smell black licorice, but wood, too. interesting. there's something a bit weird, too, which i think is the sassafras. definitely weird, but i like it. 1 hour later: more woodsy now. i like this. 2 hours later: this is still pretty much as strong as when i put it on. 4 hours later: it's more of a powdery, but slightly sharp, woodsy floral. overall: i wouldn't have picked this for myself, but i'm glad i have it. i really like how it develops, but not enough to justify a bottle.

greed at first: this was a free imp from the lab. it's heavy, sweet, and earthy. very interesting. i think i may really like this. on: patchouli and a very sweet flower. heavy, but nice. 1 hour later: still mostly patchouli, but with something more tart underneath. it's still sweet and heavy. i like this one. 2 hours later: i think this is making my nose itch a little, but i don't care. it reminds me a bit of lush's tramp: patchouli and violets. this is great. 5.5 hours later: still heavy and gorgeous. i probably wouldn't have picked this one myself, but i love it! 8.5 hours later: this is mostly just sweet now, but that's ok. it was very strong for a long time. overall: i don't think i ever would have picked this out for myself, but i love it! it may actually be a big bottle, since it's a nice, heavy, floral patchouli, which is something i haven't run across yet. woo hoo!

old morocco at first: beautiful. spicy and floral. i really like this. on: very interesting. powdery. can't really describe it beyond that. 1 hour later: powdery, but floral. i like this. 4 hours later: i can barely smell this anymore. what i can smell is still powdery. pverall: i just don't know. i guess this is one that i'll need to apply a lot of. i'll be keeping the imp, but probably won't be buying another.

at first: the lab included this as an extra. i think i smell sweet lemon and, maybe, eucalyptus. it's very interesting. on: a gentle floral, possibly with a hint of sweetness to it. 2 hours later: a little too soapy for me. 4.5 hours later: much lighter, and the soapy scent has mostly gone away. overall: i'm keeping this one. i'll probably end up slathering it on next time, so that it lasts longer.

melpomene at first: the lab generiously included this as an extra. um...i don't know what to say about this. it's very interesting, but i'm not sure if i like it. i think i smell citrus, flowers, and mint, which is kind of odd. on: at first, i didn't like this. there was just something...off about it. now, it's a really pretty floral. i can't really place any of the notes, though. 1 hour later: more watery. there may be lotus or heliotrope in this. very lovely. 4.5 hours later: much lighter and more sweet. i probably should have slathered this one on. 6 hours later: it's gone. overall: yup, this definitely needs to be slathered on. it's nice, and i'll enjoy using up my imp, but i'm not planning on getting it again.

does anything smell similar to or complement miranda?

at first: sweet, spicy, and woodsy. lovely and very unique. on: more perfumey (in a floral sort of a way) than i expected, but nice. i actually expected it to be foody. there seems to be cinnamon and some other, similar spices underneath. 1 hour later: this is a tad sweeter, but still not foody. it's floral and still has those warm spices wrapped up in it. 4 hours later: this smells like a flower. a single flower. i can't tell what it is, though. 5.5 hours later: very, very sweet. like heavy toffee. it's so weird that the scent has changed so much. i like this stage a lot; it's very cozy and soothing. 8.5 hours later: there's still that wonderful sweetness, but it's not as heavy. wonderful. overall: i wish i would have ordered this because i'd love to use it in my oil burner, but don't want to waste the tiny bit i have. i'll definitely be picking this up if it's offered again next lughnasadh.

carnal at first: the imp tossed this into my order as a freebie. wow. this is very sweet and red. it's a very autumnal scent. this one should be fun to wear. on: sweet. i can't really figure out what the notes are, though. 1 hour later: still sweet. i think i smell some pomegranate, but with something more thickly sweet underneath. very nice. 2.5 hours later: this is still mostly pomegranate on me. woo hoo! however, there's still that extra sweetness underneath. very nice. 5 hours later: fading a bit, but still pretty. overall: this is very nice. it'll be a nice alternative to swank when i want something a bit heavier. i'm not sure i'd buy a bottle, but i'll enjoy using up my imp.

scorpio at first: a lot of pine. maybe a bit of incense, too. very interesting. on: wow. this is interesting. sweet, but with a lot of pine. very green. i really like this. it's very different. 1 hour later: hmmm...i can't really tell what this smells like anymore. i guess it just smells green. 2 hours later: still green, but more fresh with a bit of soapy sweetness peeking through. this is different from any of the other oils i've tried. 3 hours later: much, much sharper. all i can smell is flowers. i want the green back. 5 hours later: much lighter and softer. this will probably be one that needs to be reapplied every now and then. it still has that soapyness to it. overall: this is really, really nice. i may treat myself to a 5ml eventually.

hymn A paean to true holiness, spiritual purity, and sacred enlightenment. Based on an incense blend sacred to the Virgin Mary: perfect rose absolute and Palestinian Lily of the Valley with olibanum, labdanum, frankincense and myrrh. at first: the lab tossed this in as an extra. this is so soft that i can barely smell anything. what i can smell is pretty, though. on: interesting. much stronger than in the bottle. i can smell a bit of rose, but can't really pick anything else out. there's definitely a lot of other scents mixed in. it reminds me of flowers in church. 1 hour later: interesting. there's a bit of a plastic-y smell that i didn't get before, but it isn't unpleasant. still floral and church-like. 2 hours later: hmmm...i don't think i like how this is changing. i can't really describe why, though. it's rose, but with some other scent that i don't really like on me. 3 hours later: this smells like a lot of old women with way too much perfume on sitting in church. can't decide if that's a good or a bad thing. overall: i'll be keeping my imp. i'm going to try it in my oil burner. i really don't know if i love or hate this one. at least it's interesting.

follow me boy at first: the lab tossed this in as an extra. this smells kind of sharp, and then kind of sweet, but it's definitely an herbal scent. on: this reminds me of something, but i can't figure out what. like being on vacation with a bunch of kids and their parents on a humid summer day. 1 hour later: like a combination of sunscreen and insect spray...but in a good way, if that makes any sense. the smell of being outside on a humid afternoon in a forest preserve. 2 hours later: still the same as earlier. this really brings back memories of family vacations and picnics. 3 hours later: this is a little sweeter now, like the above scents, but while i'm eating some cheap ice cream with one of those flat little wooden spoons. overall: i don't know how well this one will end up working, but i like the smell, just for the nostalgia. i'll probably end up getting another imp of this when i finish off this one.
