In the imp: I'm mainly getting strawberry and orange blossom. Wet: The juicy strawberry note reigns, followed by the orange blossom. After a bit, the strawberry note starts to calm down, paving the way for the other floral notes to appear. Dry: Even though the strawberry is softer, it's still the dominant note, followed by the orange blossom. Verdict: Strawberry scents aren't really my jam, but this wasn't as intimidating as I thought it would be with the strawberry and orange blossom combo!
-
In the imp: I'm mostly getting tea rose and lily. Wet: Rose and lily are the dominant notes, and they don't seem to want to share the center stage. Both are high-pitched and veering into soap territory on me. Dry: Sour rose, soapy lily, and a hint of mandarin, with some resins in the background. Verdict: My skin chemistry just doesn't like the combination of the two dominant floral notes in this blend.
-
In the imp: SUPER STRONG jasmine with just a little hint of rose and myrrh. Wet: JASMINE LIKE WHOA. And a bit of myrrh and rose. Dry: Fortunately, it didn't take long for the jasmine to calm down. It's softer, sweeter jasmine now, but still remains the dominant note. The other notes remain confined to the background. Verdict: Not as scary as it seemed in the imp, fortunately, but still not my jam.

In the bottle: When this first arrived, it was mainly vanilla cake followed by the apple cider with the red velvet cake underneath it. Now the sparkling apple cider is the most prominent note, followed by both cake notes. But the wisteria, which I didn't notice when it was fresh from the mailbox a few days ago, is also a lot stronger, so sometimes I smell more cake, and sometimes, I sniff it and get more of the wisteria. Wet: Oh hai, wisteria! It's mostly creamy wisteria (thanks to the cake) and apple cider. Then it gets sharper thanks to the rising strength of the wisteria-sparkling cider combo. Dry: Cake, where art thou!? I was hoping for cake + wisteria, but I'm still mostly getting wisteria and the sparkling cider. It's not as sharp anymore near my wrists, but it tickles my nose and makes me want to sneeze near the crook of my elbow. Verdict: Alas, I wanted more cake out of this one, and not sparkling cider and wisteria. I don't dislike it, but it's not something that I think I'd reach for again.

Wednesday's Child is Full of Woe

In the bottle: The sugared clove note is the most prominent note, followed by the vanilla patchouli, a bit of cacao, and finally, the black cherry. Wet: The sugared clove note reigns. The vanilla patchouli is lurking behind it, and it's a nice, warm, soft patch. The cacao note just seems to be adding warmth and sweetness, because while I can tell it's there, it's not really giving me a chocolate-y vibe. The black cherry note was faint at first, but it seems to be getting stronger as this dries down. I'm still not really getting any of the dried rose petals. Dry: In the early dry phase, I started to be able to detect a bit of the dried rose petals. Now, it's mostly vanilla and sugared clove, with the sugared clove being far more prominent near the crooks of my elbows, and the vanilla being quite strong on my wrists. Several hours later, I can detect some of the dried rose petals and black cherry mingling with the vanilla and clove on my wrists, with some faint cacao in the background. The patchouli and clove end up being the more prominent notes near the crooks of my elbows. Verdict: I knew I needed this just with the phrase 'sugared clove', and I was right! This is a stunning sugared Goth scent, and I am thinking a back-up will be necessary. -
In the bottle: I get all of the notes in the order that they're listed. Dorian, lavender, crushed grass, cypress, and a bit of clove. Sometimes, I get more of the cypress than the crushed grass when I open the bottle and smell it. Wet: Lavender mist, Dorian, and crushed grass. I, too, am getting lemon from this, which I believe is the Dorian mingling with the crushed grass. The clove and cypress are in the background, but the clove is beginning to get stronger the longer this sits on my skin. My skin tends to do this to clove, so I wouldn't be surprised if it played a lesser role on someone else's skin chemistry. At the moment, it hasn't overtaken the dominant notes. Dry: The Dorian reigns, followed by the lavender mist, and then the clove. The green notes have calmed down significantly and both reside in the background. After several hours, it becomes mostly Dorian (particularly the sugared vanilla tea note) and clove on me. Verdict: This is lovely and really comforting, and I suspect that, like Dorian, it will only get better with age. I'm so happy to have a bottle of this, and I may end up needing a back-up or two before it goes away.

In the bottle: Sometimes, I'm reminded of green gummy worms coated in sugar crystals instead of sour powder, but other times, it's more like lime jello. In any case, the candied lime is the note that stands out to me the most! I do get some of the lemon and berries more on some sniffs, though. On my skin, it's a bag of sugar-coated, fruity gummy candies, which sometimes reminds me of jello. After several hours of wear, I get more of the sugar than the fruit notes, and the sugar reminds me of at least one of the sugars in Sugar Skull. This is the phase of the scent I prefer, but I'm not sure I can endure all of the gummy worm/Jello associations I get during the first few hours of wear. Verdict: Not really for me, but I am glad to have gotten to try this forum-exclusive scent! :]

I finally watched the film, so I suppose I really ought to try the scent! In the imp: Herbs, dirt, and a generous helping of the Lab's red wine. Wet: Dirt and wine, soured by the herbs, but it seems to be losing the sour aspect after a few minutes. Dry: Normally, the Lab's red wine note is pretty strong on me, but there seems to be an equal balance of dirt and wine on my skin here. It sounds like an odd combination, but it's actually nice. After a while, the wine note does end up getting stronger, but the earthiness is still present. Verdict: When I first got into BPAL, this scent didn't seem like it would be my jam at all. Now, I'm like, why didn't I try this before? I'm happy to find more dirt scents that I enjoy, and I look forward to pairing this with the Trading Post's Black Clove, Tobacco Flower, and Grave Soil hair gloss. If I end up using my imp, I'll consider getting a bottle.

In the imp: Gardenia and tart tea rose dominate. I can smell the jasmine, too, and just a hint of the vanilla. Wet: Gardenia reigns, followed by the tea rose, and finally, the jasmine. Vanilla, where art thou? This smells like a tropical, almost-fruity floral. Dry: The gardenia is still the star of the show, followed by the aforementioned notes. It's a heady, sweet floral scent, with the vanilla softening it a bit and adding some more sweetness and creaminess in the background. Verdict: This is a little too heady for me, but I'm glad that I was able to try it. *edit* I've changed my mind! I held onto the imp and retested it, and now the vanilla note is a lot stronger, which makes me appreciate the scent a lot more. It smells amazing now, with the gardenia and vanilla being the strongest notes on me. I'm going to continue holding on to this imp! I'm sure it will only continue to get better as it ages.

In the imp: Sweeter than I was expecting! I can smell the vanilla, apple, rose, and musk, along with a bit of teak, and the notes I was worried about (neroli and black patchouli) aren't really jumping out at me at the moment. Wet: It's similar to the way it was in the imp at first, but after a minute, the rose becomes a lot stronger on my skin, and it's a lovely, soft, red rose sweetened by the vanilla. Then, it starts to get darker and somewhat bitter. Dry: It reverts from the darkside and returns to being primarily a musk-y rose and vanilla scent with a bit of soft apple and a breath of black patchouli in the background! Verdict: Oddly enough, the neroli wasn't problematic for me, and the black patchouli didn't overtake the sweet floral. I like this, but don't think I need a bottle.
-
In the imp: That's a dark forest, all right. I opened the imp and was greeted with a blast of juniper and pine. Wet: Mostly pine and juniper, although the patchouli is beginning to deepen the blend in the background. It starts to become more earthy over time, with the dirt and dark patchouli beginning to assert their presence. Dry: The patchouli reigns, along with the dirt. There is an evergreen forest is behind the cemetery, and you keep getting whiffs of the trees on the cool night air. Verdict: I enjoy dirt and forest scents, and although the patchouli in this is a bit grittier than I can normally handle, it works with the theme of the scent. I'll be keeping my imp! I look forward to pairing this with the Trading Post's Black Clove, Tobacco Flower, and Grave Soil hair gloss.
-
In the imp: ALLLMOND. There's a bit of buttercream and honey, too. But mostly, ALMOND. Wet: The almond is pretty strong, and I'm getting some of the spiced rum on my skin that is looking to overtake it. Dry: Spiced rum dominates, followed by the honeyed mead, and then there's the buttercream adding some creaminess in the background, while the hazelnut adds more warmth. There's still a breath of the almond note, but it is not as strong as it was originally. However, that does tend to happen to almond notes on my skin. It ends up being syrup-y sweet on me, and I attribute that mainly to the honey mead, which seems to be growing stronger over time. Verdict: I typicall enjoy gourmands, but this one is too sickly-sweet on my skin. I'll pass my imp on to a friend that enjoys the Lab's spiced rum note.
-
In the imp: A rooty, purple fruit that's earthy and also appears to have a cherry Chapstick vibe? On my skin: Still distinctly purple with that Chapstick vibe. But not cherry... then it veers into something like a plastic-y coconut note on my skin while still retaining that rooty, purple vibe. Is this supposed to be ube in non-ice cream form and poorly represented by my skin chemistry? But then it starts reminding me of that smell of when you've worn a pencil eraser down and are flinging all of the eraser remnants off of a desk? And the fruit is sweeter now, and no longer purple. Maybe it's a waxy apricot? Verdict: This one just doesn't seem to work with my skin chemistry, so I'll pass it on to someone else who would like to try it.

Hi Witch! I'll try to keep this up to date, although I will likely get behind Monday - Wednesday due to classes. I'm going to put new notes (that aren't answers to questions) in purple and leave them that way for a few days so they will be easier to find. I'll also try not to edit my answers, but I did cave and find a fairy for all of the NYCC exclusives I was lusting after, so I put a strikethrough through that answer. Note: BPAL bottles that I have currently on order are listed in the 'SOON' section at the bottom of the 'My Collection' link in my signature. I have ordered bottles and decants of the scents I'm interested in from both Lilith updates. (I wish I had ordered decants of Do You Like Clowns? and Huntress now, though!) I ordered bottles of my two must-have Weenies and decants of the Weenies I was interested in, but iffy on. I am currently sitting on my hands and not allowing myself to order the two items I'm lusting after from the Trading Post Weenie update. Here is my Amazon Wish List. I used the universal wish list feature, so there are lots of non-Amazon items on there. I made it just to give an idea some of my interests and tried to include some Halloween-themed things. Since you asked me to keep adding things to my wishlist, I've been trying to do so on Amazon and Etsy. Here's a link to my Etsy wishlist (which includes a few things in a category I said I didn't want... it must be the cute animal effect). If you're conspiring with other witches or thinking about it, I wouldn't say no to the pumpkin pie fudge that Greenwoodtree mentioned on the SW spreadsheet. 10/5/17 would any witchees be interested in NASA swag? I'm now super-close to Marshall Space Flight Center and will be visiting the space center with my kiddo pretty regularly. If so, what would you like? Clothes, a mug, magnets, a plush Snoopy wearing a flight suit? I am a slut for space! Any of those things would be neat. does anybody like anything from Solstice Scents? I LOVE their Jack and the Devil. http://www.solsticescents.com/ I generally avoid looking at perfume oils from other companies as my BPAL addiction is so costly as it is. But I would be down for trying one of the whipped soaps, if you're a fan of them. Witches Cottage, Foxcroft, and Maine Moon whipped soaps could be interesting, although I'm not sure how Maine Moon would smell, because while I love dirt and root beer notes, I'm not sure how they would smell together. 10/3/17 Witchee, would you like anything from the Trading Post Halloween update? https://blackphoenix...y/weenies-2017/ I really like the sound of Pumpkin Butter Ice Cream bath oil and White Pumpkin Floss perfume oil. I'd also be interested in trying Pumpkin Latte hair gloss. 10/1/17 Witchee, I'm about to place an order with Smolder Cosmetics. Do any of their products (glitter, eye dusts etc) appeal to you? https://smoldercosmetics.com The Cranberry, Plum, and Lilac Loose Glam Dusts look nice. I already own a lot of eyeshadow, though! Witchee, I have a small but awesome farmer's market by my house. They have a local honey stand (which also sells things made from local honey like Propolis tincture!); there's a small apothecary and she additionally makes soaps and hand-made, hand-poured scented candles; plus a guy that makes an array of BBQ and Hot Sauces. Does ny of this appeal? Would you like anything from my local farmer's market? I like supporting farmers markets and local honey and handmade soaps and candles sound good to me. Witchee, would you be interested in anything from Strobe Cosmetics? http://strobecosmetics.com/ I really do own a lot more eyeshadow than I'll ever wear already, but I Mulled Wine and Sanctuary look nice. Also, How would you feel about getting Hello Kitty stuff? It's not really mah jam! Would you like to get some favorite recipes? I like trying new things and would appreciate them if they're vegetarian-friendly! Would you like anything from my shop? No, thank you! Scarves and shawls aren't really my thing. 9/30/17 Would you like anything from the Haus of Gloi Fall Part II update? https://www.hausofgl...ween-scent-list I love their whipped soaps and pumpkin butters. I would love some Ghost Puffs, Apple Milk, and Blood Orange Marshmallow whipped soap or pumpkin butter, and I'm also interested in Cozy Pumpkin and Hex. 9/27/17 How do you feel about these little guys? I think they're adorable and kind of want them all, but especially the ghost and pirate ones. https://lovemomiji.c...imited-editions They're not really my cup of tea. 9/26/17 What are your top three most wanted DC'd or previous LE BPALs? I'm just going to list the ones that are currently on my wishlist and not anything ridiculously rare. Snake Oil Jelly Doughnut (I keep missing this on the BPTP Etsy), The Sharing of the Cake Between the Lion and the Unicorn HG (which I missed last year while I was in Germany, since Puddin' had run out of components before I remembered to go order it), and Lightning Storm HG (I'm almost out, so I keep using it sparingly). Honorable mentions to go to Snowblind and Quietude. What are some things you do NOT want to receive? A big ol' beer? I'm not a beer drinker. I'm also not big on jewelry. is there anything from here that you might be interested in getting a print (or pillow/make-up case/etc) of? http://www.blackabbeystudios.com/store I like the Spell of Ravensong print. Claire's has some super cute Halloween stuff. In the style of Haunted Mansion - black lace collars, lace and sparkle masques and the like. A few items in Dias de los Muertos style. Would you be interested in such things? No, thank you! Would you be interested in anything from Orange Thyme? https://shoporangethyme.com/ If so, which products/scents/flavors? The items I'd be interested in (unscented body butter and Earl Grey lip balm) are currently sold out. 9/25/17 Anyone like/want calendars or dayplanners? No, thank you! If you like stationery, do you like plain, colors, images, or specific DON'T LIKES? Colors and images are preferable. What about general desk stuff like cool colored paperclips and post it pads? No, thank you! Would anyone be interested in having any of Abigail Larson's artwork (either as a print or on something, like a pillow, blanket, or t-shirt)? https://society6.com/abigaillarson I asked this question because I really enjoy her artwork. I added a few things from her shop to my wishlist. As far as prints go, I really like The Night Circus, Spring, Winter, and The Yellow Wallpaper. And I didn't end up adding clothing to my list, but I think Ghosts and Poison would be good tank tops. Does anything catch your eye from Ten Thousand Villages? http://www.tenthousandvillages.com/ The Fox Coin Purse is cute! Would you be into receiving hand made (crocheted, sewn, felted, chain maille, scale, or duct tape, in my case, depending on the item) dishclothes? Scarf/shawl? Hat? Bag? Anything? Colors? (Duct tape, chain maille, and scales come in colors.) I'd be down for some purple fingerless gloves. I live somewhere that's too warm most of the time to warrant warm things, though. A small pouch to put things like cards and coins in would also be appreciated. Do you collect anything from SBUX like City Mugs, City Mug ornaments, City Cards, or Bearistas? If so, which do you need/want? Or would you like a City Mug or an ornament for fun? No, thank you! anybody want homemade fudge? I can do chocolate with or without nuts, peanut butter, and butterscotch. Homemade fudge would be great! I like chocolate (with or without nuts is fine). do you like spicy foods? I am currently addicted to these suckers and want to send you some buffalo ridged kettle potato goodness (https://www.billygoa...shop/1lb-kicker) Spicy foods are not mah jam. what would you like from the Weenies updatus giganticus??? I ended up ordering decants of the scents I was interested in, but iffy on. I am planning to order bottles of Pumpkin Spice Perversion and Pumpkin Spice Snake Oil later this week, as those are my must-haves. Witchees, do you want anything specifically from this page? http://iceweasel.net/switchwitch/ I love the owl mitts! 9/24/17 do you collect the art cards that BPAL sends out? Any in particular that you are looking for or definitely don't need? I do collect them, but I don't have any specific ones that I'm looking for. Do you like this beautiful art, and she makes stickers and prints...SOOOO gorgeous: https://www.shannatr...om/paperprints/ I like the Wise One Whispers. Favorite animals or wild creatures or mythological creatures? My favorite animals are cats, rabbits, owls, foxes, and baby tweeters (miscellaneous little birds that hop around). would you like any swag from the Depeche Mode concert? (pins, posters, shirts, program, dunno what they'll have!) I am a fan and would definitely appreciate something! I'm still kicking myself for missing out on tickets in my city when I was in Germany earlier this year. I would love to see them live one day. Is anyone interested in the new Resistance scents that the Lab just released (Take a Knee and SN: Flor de Maga)? I'd be interested in a decant of Take a Knee. Is anyone here into zero waste, plastic free living, urban homesteading, or any simplicity/minimalism-esque lifestyles? If so, could you use any tools or equipment? No, thank you! 9/23/17 Are you interested in anything from Bath & Bodyworks? Which products and scents do you like? www.bathandbodyworks.com/ No, thank you! I am possibly going to a crystal / gem show tomorrow. I can't afford expensive gem stones, but... What kind of crystals would you like? No crystals for me, thank you! Pumpkin or Zucchini bread? I like both, but I prefer pumpkin. What kind of homemade cookies are your favorite? I have started making cookies with Ritter Sport chocolate pieces inside of them, and now chocolate chips seem inferior. I also like pumpkin chai sugar cookies, oatmeal cranberry cookies (no raisins), and shortbread cookies or any kind that would be good with tea. Could you use a muscle rub? (We make ours on the lunar cycle and it has menthol, wintergreen, habanero, cayenne, olive oil, st. john's wort, arnica, beeswax, calendula, and ginger. It tingles. We call it "Thunder Butter". If you have really really super sensitive skin, I would recommend against it. And don't take a hot shower or open all of your pores before using it.) While it sounds great, it sounds like it wouldn't be for me due to my sensitive skin. Interested in trying some of our rose petal (rose petals, sugar, everclear) or lavender vanilla bean (lavender, vanilla bean, vodka) liqueur? Lavender vanilla bean liqueur sounds interesting! Want some honey from the bees on our property? Honey sounds good to me. Would you like some homemade jam? I have blackberry, rose petal, strawberry rhubarb, peach, and cherry. I'd be down for some homemade jam. How about some homemade candied jalapenos with garlic cloves? I have regular and with habanero. I don't think this kind would be for me. I didn't dry any apples this year but I was thinking of heading over to Green Bluff and seeing if any honeycrisps are left. I have a commercial dehydrator so let me know if you are interested in any "Apple Crips" (as voodoocatwoman calls them!) I wash, peel, core, and slice before dehydrating. I do enjoy apple crisps. Do you need any kind of dice bag, tote, project bag, cosmetic bag, pencil bag, or whatever? I have lots of bag patterns and fabric. We make bags under the name Twinkle N Twilight. Or how about a couple of pillowcases? A small coin purse or cosmetic bag would be nice. 9/22/17 Would my witchee like this to warm up the fall coffee cup?? https://www.truelemo...gory-s/1871.htm The True Apple Cinnamon Hot Apple Cider looks good. do you like to take baths? if so, do you like oils, salts, things that fizz, all of the above, none of the above? I do like baths! I like bubbles, oils, and things that fizz. What style/make/etc of phone do you have? What about size of tablet? Laptop? Would you like decals, skins, or cases for any of these? I have an iPhone 6 Plus, but I'm happy with my TARDIS case! My laptop is an old Macbook Pro, but it's probably better not to get any decals for it since it's seven years old and probably going to have to be replaced soon. 9/21/17 See's Candy. My absolute favorite. They have special Halloween candy..any of these pique your interest?? Cinnamon Apple Scotch Mallows, Pumpkin spice truffles, pumpkinspice lollypops, caramel apple lollypops, or any other of their chocolates, etc? I used to love these chocolate almond cluster things they make. Pumpkin spice truffles and Cinnamon Apple Scotch Mallows sound good. I'm always down for chocolate, provided it won't melt in transit. Are any witchees into coloring books? I'd be up for one, but don't have any coloring books or art supplies. Witchees, is there anything that catches your eye at Animi Causa (https://www.animicausa.com/shop/)? There are a lot of cute things here! I added a few of their items to my wishlist. If I were to find an adorable autumnal/Halloween-y dish/flatware/etc. design, how many settings would be needed in your household? I already have a dishset, but a cute Halloween themed serving bowls or platters would be welcome, and I really love Pottery Barn's new skeleton wine glasses. There are two people in my household. 9/20/17 Do you like Broadway shows/music? If so what are some of your favorites and/or ones that you hope to see or listen to eventually? Would you like merch from your favorite shows or CDs from shows you want to listen to? I enjoy musicals, but I am not a big enough fan to have any favorites. I'm heading to NYCC in October! Is there anything I can get my Witchee while I'm there? I'm very interested in Apple III, Apple VI, Apple VII, Apple Marshmallow HG, and Sugared Apple bath oil. I'm going to Edmonton Expo this weekend (It's Edmonton's version of comic con). Would a witchee like anything from there? No, thank you! Anything catch your eye from this site (globalgirlfriend.com)? No, thank you! Do you have any favorite, lesser-known stores? Especially ones that sell hand-crafted or independently made items. I can't think of any at the moment! Imagine you're going to the most gigantic art & craft show imaginable, and money is no object - what kind of things would you gravitate towards and probably spend money on? Include as specific as you want to get! I'm not really an arts & crafts kind of gal, but I'd probably get stuff to do try to recreate one of the tables Aurelio Voltaire created on Gothic Homemaking. 9/19/17 Are you interested in anything from Think Geek? http://www.thinkgeek.com I have a wishlist there (although there's not much on it at the moment)! Do you have something you wish you put on your original questionnaire/forgot to put/would like to add on to? DAVIDsTEA recently discontinued Organic Countess of Seville without an announcement, which was one of my favorite teas. It was their take on a green Earl Grey. Now I'm on the hunt for some new green Earl Greys to try! Any additional misc. information about yourself you want your Witch to know? (I think this was on the survey, but again if there's something that you forgot...) Not that I can think of at the moment! If you could decorate your house (or one room) in any one theme, what would it be? Your answer can be as simple ("Star Wars" or "Baroque" or "Modern"), or complicated or a combination (e.g. Victorian Gothic) as you feel best fits. It would probably be modern, but somewhat Goth-y. Lots of black, purple, and grey. Aprons: Do you wear them, do you want one? Utility, decorative, cooking or crafting? I don't have one, but I'd be up for having one to wear while baking! BTW, would my witchee be interested in something like this? (photo of black and white striped knitted doll) No, thank you! I do enjoy some tiny fandom-related knitted dolls, though. (I wish The Geeky Hooker sold them!) 9/18/17 It seems like there's a question about socks on the questionnaire, but I don't think it got down to this level: Do you wear them? Any particular style (crew length, knee high, anklet, boot, etc.) or fiber (wool, cotton, bamboo anything but wool, etc.) preference? I adore socks. Knee highs are the best or me, or thigh-highs. Ankle or crew length would also be fine, but I do not wear them as often because I mostly wear boots. Animal and Halloween-themed socks would be great! I have some of them on my wishlist already. Would you be open to previously-loved books? This was in the questionnaire, but yes, I'd be down for that. What about partial-full bottles of BPAL or BPTP? That would be fine with me as well! So what are your favorite fandoms? Doctor Who, iZombie, Orphan Black, Adventure Time 9/17/17 I'm in France at the moment, is there anything here you might like? I'm in Provence, the land of lavender, so if you like that flower in particular just say so! I'm a slut for lavender! are you into divination? What kind(s) do you currently do? Do you want more books and/or tools for that type (e.g. new tarot cards, new runes)? Is there a new type of #divination you've been meaning to try, and if so, are you looking for the tool, a book on the subject, or both? No, I do not practice divination. World my Witchee be interested in a Tarot or Astrology reading done personally? No, thank you! Does my Witchee need any magical supplies? Not sure if this fits into this category, I'd really like a decant or bottle of TAL Charisma and Gainful Employment. Would you be interested in any of the seasonal (or regular) soaps from Cellar Door Soap (https://cellardoorbathsupply.com)? I'd be interested in Apple Fest, Lavender Pumpkin, October Road, Once Bitten, Pumpkin Chai Latte, Pumpkin Guts, or Samhain Hard Cider in soap or candle form! 9/16/17 Favorite gemstones? Answered this one in my questionnaire! If you enjoy jewelry do you like discrete and elegant, flashy and gaudy, small and light, or large and chunky? I rarely wear jewelry. Any love of pirates or SCA? I like pirates, but I wouldn't say that I have a love of them. Is there anything you would like from Disney World? Not from Disney World specifically, but my favorite Disney films are Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, and The Sword in the Stone. I'm a huge Alice fan. Are you a Potterhead? If so, to which house do you belong? I am a Potterhead. I was lucky enough to see the Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour in London in April! Now I just have to get myself to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter one day. My House is Ravenclaw. How do you feel about chokers? No, thank you! 9/15/17 Do you like to cook and/or bake? Could you use any specific ingredients (spices, oils, salts, extracts, etc.) or kitchen utensils/gadgets? I like to cook, but I love to bake! I'll have to think about this question some more. Here's a few questions from me: Would you like some Halloween or other themed decor in the form of a banner, something like this http://www.etsy.com/...n-decor-vintage? If so, would you prefer a traditional style or a vertical door type? No, thank you! Do you live near a Trader Joe's? If not, are you interested in trying any of the numerous Pumpkin goodies they come out with this time every year? I am able to make it to Trader Joe's, but that doesn't mean that I object to receiving even more of PUMPKIN ALL THE THINGS. (Except for the pumpkin pecan oatmeal. That pumpkin product is vile.) I try to stock up on it every year, but since I was in Germany last year and didn't get to experience a Pumpkinocalypse, I am even more pumped for pumpkin than usual. 9/14/17 Do any of you potential Witchees have any kitties, puppers, or youngling humans you want spoiled in your packages? What treats or toys do they like? I have cats. Some Halloween-themed cat toys could be nice. Is there any interest in any of the fragrance oils from the Nocturne Alchemy Weenies update? No, thank you! My BPAL addiction is expensive as it is, so I don't want to fall in love with another company with huge perfume oil updates. Is there anything you want from the trading post (or trading post etsy) that is available to order right now? (Fatherhood, Puppers, normal GC things) From the TP Etsy: Key Lime Pie perfume oil, Delayed at Ingolstadt Air Field atmo (I just used up my bottle) Puppers: Pa Pow HG, Pickle HG, Wednesday HG (any amount!) Normal GC things: Lakeside atmo, Think Snow For Me atmo, Bitches Love Unicorns shirt (ladies crew neck, size M) 9/13/17 Are you a gamer? If so, what games are you currently playing and is there any merch for that game you'd love to have?- If you are a gamer do you have a steam/gamestop/amazon wishlist? I am not a gamer. How do you feel about the following scarf options (assuming you're into scarves)? While I appreciate scarves, I live in too hot of a climate to ever wear them! Simple eyelet scarf Chevron scarf Lacy and fuzzy Skinny rib knit (extra long for lots of wrapping) Leafy! Like beer? What styles most appeal to you? I do not like beer. Like booze? What kinds? Not really. I only really drink mixed drinks every great once in a while at restaurants or concerts. Like Wine? What kinds? I like white wine (like Riesling) and sweet reds (it doesn't have to be sweet, but I don't like the dry ones -- one of my favorite reds is the Onyx Moon red wine they have at Trader Joe's). Would you be interested in a set of hand-made hair falls? It's something I do for fun and I can make any length and do an array of colors! No, thanks! For those who watch certain movies every year for Halloween, what are those movies, whether horror or not? Any favorite horror movies that aren't necessarily on the annual-viewing list? How do you feel about fan-made merch for these movies? Horror movies are not mah jam. I scare easily. I really like The Nightmare Before Christmas, though! 9/12/17 Here's a great local soapmaker I love--y'all see anything you would like? https://littleseedfarm.com/ The vanilla bean and lavender soaps sound nice. What are your favorite/preferred Halloween/autumn icons/images? Any to specifically stay away from? I like ravens, bats, black cats, owls... mostly animal-related things. No spiders or scorpions, please! Do you eat candy, and if so would Halloween candy be welcome? Specialty candy from local or unusual sources? Chocolate? I do eat candy. Halloween candy would be welcome! Speciality candy would also be great! I love chocolate, as long as it's not too hot here to melt it upon arrival. *glares at desert* Milk chocolate is my favorite. Do you want Fidget spinners, desk toys, or other frivolous things that you look at and decide you don't need enough to spend $ on but would make you happy to have? No, thank you! Any zentangle lovers, people who would like to try it, or would you want a piece of someone else's zentangle art? No, thank you! Any love of hair toys, clips, ribbons, fascinators, mini hats, etc? I like hair clips and mini hats. What local goodies may be of interest? Local Honey, jams, candy? Local honey, jams, and candy all sound great to me! Raspberry jam is my favorite. I still buy CDs, and I use Spotify to stream the stuff that I like from Europe that I can't get physical copies of over here without paying large shipping fees. Would you like to receive a wax tarts burner, incense burner, essential oils diffuser, or Halloweenie themed candle holders? I like candles, but do not use wax tarts. I find putting BPTP bath oils in a wax warmer scents my place better than scented wax does. I do not like incense. I already have a Weenie-themed wax warmer, but another one for another room in my apartment could be nice! Witchee: are you interested in crafting materials? No, thank you! I'm not crafty. 9/11/17 I'm in Japan, is there anything specific from here you would want? I love Japanese snacks, especially cookies and candy! I rarely do my nails. if you were to receive something hand knit, what type of item would you like? hat, cowl, handwarmers, etc. and what color(s)? - would you use knitted washcloths? a scarf? Are you allergic or sensitive to any fibers? I live in a warm climate, so I wouldn't really get much use out of something that's meant to be worn to keep one warm, but something that is intended to be used as opposed to worn would be nice. If you could be ANY character from a film, TV show or book, who would it be and why? Probably The Doctor. I want to travel throughout time and space! If you could hop into a time machine and travel anywhere/anytime, where would it be and why? I'd like to travel to the Ice Age to see the large mammals and an icy landscape. If you could invite 3 famous people to a BPAL meet and sniff, who would invite? Do you like and/or want anything from Elements and Artifacts? (http://futureprimitivesoap.co.uk/) Soaps (bar and whipped) and lotions (or body butters) sound great to me! I'd be curious to try Pumpkin'ead, Pumpkin Eater, and Toffee Moon Face. Sparklebox also sounds good. But Sylph. Sylph sounds AMAZING. I love sweet lavender scents, so marshmallow + lavender would be right up my alley! Are there any UK things you'd like to get? I would love some Cadbury Double Decker bars, Tunnock's Tea Cakes, and Mr. Kipling's Angel Slices. And this other one is probably impossible, but there's this tea room across from the British Museum in London called Tea and Tattle, and they have the most wonderful raspberry vanilla jam. I wish I had bought a jar of that while I was over there. Are you into podcasts? If so, what are your favorites? Would you like any merch related to any of them? I've only listened to Welcome to Night Vale. I've been meaning to get into podcasts, but I am not listening to any others at the moment! Who would love one of their awesome holos like MEGA or one of their amazing chromes? http://www.ilnp.com/ I rarely paint my nails, and I tend to mess them up rather quickly when I do, so this would not really be for me. 9/8/17 Do you enjoy stationery? I'm thinking cute/quality notebooks, washi tape, stickers, fun pens etc. Fun pens would be nice! I was just eyeing some Pusheen pens the other day. Something with a fine tip that would be good for writing on those little circular perfume oil labels would be nice, too! Are you interested in anything from Cocoa Pink? I would be up for trying one of their lotions! - Or Haus of Gloi? I love their Ghost Puffs pumpkin butter and whipped soap! I'm also curious about the Ghost Puffs bathing dust. Aside from their Fall Collection, I really like their Aether (unscented) pumpkin butter and Lavender Sugar pumpkin butter. Would you be interested in a Halloween wreath? While I would love one, I live in an apartment complex, and I'm not sure I would trust it not to be stolen off of my door. Have you seen this: https://www.bustle.c...llection-80733? (Lush Halloween collection.) And what would you like? I used to be a major Lush addict (it's what led me to BPAL...), but now only get items every great once in a while, usually through the end-of-the-year sale. I'd love the Secret Arts jelly bomb (I am curious what a jelly bomb will be like!), the Bewitched bubble bar (love that it's a black cat shape!), Ectoplasm jelly bomb, Hedgewitch soap, and Pumpkin bath bomb. 9/7/17 Are you interested in anything from the Moonalisa Halloween update? I have only ever tried one of their soap samples that was kindly given to me via a swap. I would be interested in trying Blood Orange & Cotton Candy, Carnival Cakes, Late Harvest, Pumpkin Clafouti, Rumpkin!, Smoked Apple Vanilla, and Witches Milk in a 4in1, Butter Rich Cream, Conditioner, or Potion Lotion form. What are your coffee and/or tea preferences? Coffee: whole beans or ground? Flavor and roast preferences? Tea: black, green, herbal, flavors? Loose leaf or tea bags? Anything specific you don't like? Are you in need of any gadgetry? I can't drink coffee, but I'm a tea addict. I like every tea except for rooibos, mate, or pu-ehr. My favorite teas are green, white, and herbal flavors (but generally not straight teas -- bits of non-berry fruits, flowers, and herbs are preferable, for instance, a green Earl Grey). I drink loose leaf tea and have a ton of tea gadgetry. 9/6/17 How would you feel about receiving a hand-painted container for your bpal and/or other treasures? - would you want a big wood box (~50 bottles), a small wood box (~20 bottles) or a tin for carrying imps around? That would be neat! All of those options sound nice, but a tin or some kind of case for carrying imps would probably be best. I've just been using the little goblin pouches from the Trading Post when I travel. Who is into K-Beauty (Korean beauty products like sheet masks) - What are your faves if you are? - If you aren't would you like to try something? I'm not sure what K-Beauty consists of, but I'd be up for trying something (as long as it is cruelty-free)! What are some NEW things you've gotten interested in this year? Could be anything, from a new hobby, new genre of book, new healthy way of living, new fav brand of whatever... I'm interested in baking with less sugar, and trying out new recipes in general has been something I've been enjoying this year. I haven't immersed myself in the world of comics yet, but that's another thing I would enjoy getting into -- I'm especially interested in reading the iZombie comics, since I like the show so much. 9/5/17 What are your feelings about Scooby Doo? It's okay. There are lots of other cartoons that I enjoy a lot more. How do you feel about indie makeup (read: loose eyeshadow, blush, highlighter)? I like indie make-up, but I fear I have too much of it and don't wear it often enough. I don't use blush, but a new black, purple, or deep red eyeshadow would be nice. I drink this stuff almost everyday would anyone else be interested in trying it out? https://www.criobru.com/ Alas, I can't drink coffee, so I don't have anything to brew this coffee-alternative. 9/4/17 Would you like one of the Halloween Teeturtle shirts? https://www.teeturtl...alloween?page=1 I think the Boo Bees shirt is cute. I wear a size S in unisex shirts and a M in women's sizes, although unisex shirts are the safest way to ensure a shirt will fit me.

2017 version. In the bottle: I'm mostly getting lilac, musk, and what I believe must be hyssop, because I recognize the note from Against Idleness and Mischief. It's a musky, herbal floral scent. Wet: It's sweeter on my skin than it was in the bottle, but it also smells cleaner on me. I am getting a lot of lilac, hyssop, and musk. After a bit, the coconut and vanilla tea notes begin to emerge, and the hyssop overtakes the lilac note. I hope the vanilla tea ends up playing more of a role on me during the dry phase, or even the tonka and coconut, because I was hoping this would be a sweeter floral scent. Dry: It remains a musky, herbal floral scent for a while, but after a few hours, it does get sweeter. The coconut is definitely present, and tonka note adds a warmth to the scent, in addition to some sweetness. The tobacco note is also present now, and it, too, is contributing to the sweet warmth as opposed to lending a smoky quality to the scent. I smell more hyssop than lilac, and the musk, while still present, has calmed down. Verdict: I wasn't so sure about this during the wet stage, but the dry stage of the scent has proved to be a lot more to my liking. I'm going to let it age to see if the vanilla tea will end up coming out more, and then re-test it. *edit* I kept sniffing it a few hours after I reviewed this. It just kept getting sweeter and smelled even better on me.

I have been hoping for a honeysuckle single note since the single notes returned, so as soon as I saw this was a thing, I bought two bottles. In the bottle: That's honeysuckle, alright. Wet: It's somewhat reminiscent of the honeysuckle found in Nectar hair gloss, Nice Glop, and Shanghai, but it's different because it has a green quality to it, like honeysuckle that's still on the vine. It reminds me of the honeysuckle that my grandmother had in her garden in California when I was a child. Dry: It does not remind me of the honeysuckle from the aforementioned scents anymore. It's still sweet, but it's a different kind of sweetness now, as if there had previously been a blast of sweet nectar, but now it's just the sweet floral. It's pretty strong, too. Verdict: I'm so glad this single note is a thing, but I am still hoping for a sugary honeysuckle scent without the greenery (like Nice Glop) to slather myself with.

In the bottle, Lilith's lavender and Dorian are very prominent. On my skin, I get a blast of the most gorgeous lavender, Dorian, and a bright, chilly floral, which must be the snowdrops. After a few minutes, the vanilla begins to emerge as well, and the snowdrops note is becoming stronger. During the dry stage, the vanilla increases in strength. The vanilla, snowdrops, and Dorian's musk make me think of a lavender-infused Dorian and Snow White having a baby. Both scents are favorites of mine. The sweet lavender and vanilla aspect is also reminiscent of, but different from, TKO (which is another favorite of mine). So it's a good thing I saw the notes, knew it would be a love, and ordered three bottles while I was studying abroad in Germany. I'm in love.

Original impression from the SDCC Welcome Party: Criminal Glamour -- Leather, blackcurrant, and resins. This was more pleasant than I thought it would be. If you were hoping the blackcurrant would be a main player, you're in luck! At least, it was a dominant note on me. Officially reviewing the scent on its own a year later: In the bottle: Black patchouli is the most prominent note, followed by the black amber, leather, and blackcurrant. Wet: Black patchouli and resins, followed by leather. The leather note seems to be growing stronger, but it hasn't overtaken the patchouli yet. I can smell the blackcurrant note, but it's light. I hope it comes out more, because I think that really led to me grabbing a bottle in the first place. Dry: The patchouli and black amber are the main players, but the patchouli has calmed down significantly. After a while, the black amber ends up overtaking the patchouli, and the leather cozies up to them in the background. Sadly, I'm not getting much blackcurrant from this like I originally did when I tried it at SDCC. It's just adding a light sweetness to the scent. Verdict: I prefer the dry phase. The wet stage of the scent was a little too strong on the patchouli for me. Although I enjoy the dry phase, I'm not sure if it's worth enduring the wet phase to get there, and there are other scents with black amber that I like a lot more (looking at you, Thomas Sharpe and Mars Ultor).

I received an imp in a swap or forum purchase a few years ago, and I won a bottle a few years ago directly from the Lab on eBay. I'm not sure of the age on either of these. In the imp: The green apple note stands out the most to my nose, and I'm getting more vodka and lime from the imp than the bottle. The aquatic notes read as less watery and have more of a soapy vibe in the imp. Wet: Damn, this is far sharper than the bottle scent. The vodka note is really strong, and I'm also getting more of the lime from the imp than I did in the bottle version. Then the blurry aquatic notes emerge, along with some ambrette and iris, only for the scent to morph again and showcase the aquatic notes with the cool, white mint. Then it veers back into sharp, boozy territory and seems to mostly be vodka with warm ambrette with a bit of green thrown in. How very curious! Dry: This is a lot warmer than the bottle version. The ambrette ends up being the dominant note, and I think I'm getting some iris and some of the aquatic notes along with it. ----- In the bottle: Aquatic notes, green apple, and iris, with a bit of lime and hints of the vodka and white mint. Wet: A blast of green apple before the aquatic notes rise. Now I'm getting the blurry aquatic notes and the white mint with the green apple and lime not too far behind in the background. Then the ambrette note emerges, adding some warmth to the scent, and I'm starting to get some of the iris now as well. After only a few minutes, the aquatic notes and soft white mint reign, and the other notes are pushed further into the background. This one certainly morphs a lot! Dry: A very light aquatic scent, that oddly enough, didn't end up going soapy on me! I'm mainly getting the aquatic notes, soft mint, and a hint of the fruit notes. ----- Several hours later, both scents have gotten sweeter. They're more alike now (the wrist with the scent from the bottle has also become warmer from the ambrette), but still different. The scent from the imp is stronger. Verdict: As I said, I have no idea how old each of these are, but it was really interesting how different they smell! I know imps age differently since there's a much smaller amount of oil in there, but this was quite drastic, even though I could tell they shared the same notes. I wonder if the bottle will end up aging similarly or remain more aquatic in nature. Although most aquatic scents turn into soap on me, this one was a lot nicer, and I think having notes like the soft mint and apple contributed to that. I am glad that I have this scent and will definitely bring it out more on hot summer days!

How did I not review this? In the bottle: The pink musk note is the most prominent. I do get the sweet pea as well, but it isn't as strong as the musk. After a year of aging, I can smell more of the vanilla sugar than when the scent was fresh. Wet: Wow. This has aged magnificently. The musk note reigns, but I'm getting A LOT more vanilla sugar than I did when this was fresh. It smells very pink. The vanilla sugar reminds me of a cupcake adorned with vanilla sugar crystals. Dry: Musky, vanilla-sugary, sweet pea amazingness! The sweet pea note is stronger in this phase, but I'm still getting more of the musk and vanilla sugar. This still holds true several hours later. Verdict: As a huge fan of sugary florals, I knew I would love this one! I am so glad to have two bottles.
-
In the imp: Overripe bananas, trees that smell somewhat evergreen-like (must be the narra), and florals. Wet: Tree and banana. After a while, the florals emerge, but I am mainly getting the narra with some banana. Dry: The narra is even stronger now, especially the bark aspect of it. I'm still getting the banana, but it's softened significantly. Verdict: This was more pleasant than I thought it would be, but I'm glad that I don't need more of this since it's discontinued.
-
In the imp: Salt, wine, and foliage. Wet: The salty sea and wine notes are the most prominent at first, but it's not long before the palm and fern notes clamor for attention and try to overtake the wine, but the wine just asserts it's dominance. Dry: The wine reigns for a while, but several hours later, all that remains is the salty sea note with some warmth in the background. Verdict: Not bad, but not really 'me'.
-
In the imp: Predominantly aquatic, with the ocean mist and salty air jumping out to my nose first, with some sarsaparilla in the background. Wet: The aquatics are strongest at first, and the sarsaparilla is more noticeable than it was in the imp and just seems to be getting stronger. Root beer aquatic? Curiouser and curiouser! Then, the leather-tinged musk note makes an appearance. Dry: Ocean mist, salty air, and leather-tinged musk dominate, but the sarsaparilla is still there. I hadn't tried this before now because aquatics aren't really my jam, and I didn't really like the thought of an aquatic plus patchouli, but the patch doesn't seem to be a main player on me. I think it's just helping to add more warmth to the scent. Verdict: So this didn't end up being aquatic root beer, because the sarsaparilla, while present, never becomes strong enough to make it sufficiently root beer-y. This was better than I thought it would be, but I don't need a bottle.
-
In the imp: This is mostly a salty aquatic. I'm mostly getting the sea air and some cologne-y woods from the imp. Wet: Curiously enough, this isn't as sharp smelling as it was in the imp. The aquatic notes are currently the most prominent, as I'm getting the salty sea air, kelp, and a hint of woods. This actually does have a watery quality to it on me, which is surprising, because most aquatics just turn to soap once they hit my skin. Dry: The aquatic notes continue to reign, but I'm finally getting the plundered spices now! Aquatic with spice! I can also smell some of the musk and leather now, and the wood is lingering in the background. After few hours, I mainly get the aquatic notes and the musk. Verdict: This is better than I thought I'd be, but it's not really 'me'.

Midnight on the Midway (2015)
dementia_divine replied to Ryan Hemphill's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
Instead of posting different reviews in the respective threads, I've decided to do a comparison type of review between the original and the 2015 version. [Original] In the bottle: Sugared incense and soft white florals, with the sugared incense note being more prominent. [2015 Version] In the bottle: This one is far more floral and blue musk than sugared incense in the bottle, and it has aged for almost two years. The sugared incense is still there, but it's not nearly as strong as the aforementioned notes. [Original] Wet: Sugared incense and a streak of ozone, followed by the night-blooming flowers. I'm pretty sure the sugared incense contains champaca. [2015 Version] Wet: This is very strong on the blue musk and night-blooming flowers. I suspect one of the flowers may be lotus. Then, the ozone and sugared incense announce their presence. [Original] Dry: The sugared aspect of the incense is more prominent in this phase. This is the note that still reigns, and I'm still getting some ozone. [2015 Version] Dry: The sugared incense note is more noticeable now than it was during the wet phase of this scent, so it's sweeter now, but the blue musk and night-blooming flowers are still more prominent than the incense note. I'm not getting much ozone from this one anymore. A few hours later, the sugared incense note does come out even more, at least on my wrist. It's still mostly blue musk and flowers in the crook of my elbow. Verdict: They're obviously similar, but I'm hoping that the 2015 version ages similarly to the original, as I adore the original, and I'd like to get more of the sugared incense with the florals than musky florals from the new version.
