  1. I put this on before bed and sure enough - I was a walking brownie. Delicious and chocolately! But when I woke up this morning it had morphed into some kind of smoky stink!! I'm keeping this around for the burner because I would love for my house to smell like brownies, but it's never touching my skin again!

  2. At first this smelled like a strawberries & cream candle. Then someone blew out the candle and the resulting smoke was just like a really good quality strawberry incense - emphasis on the strawberry, not the incense.

    Wow. This is good stuff...

  3. Nyx

The wonderful review by Hatshepsup is what made me run downstairs to test my newly aquired imp of Nyx.

    Jasmine? Yes!

    Rose? Ugh...

The rose does fade somewhat after a bit so I will probably give this another chance before I kick it to the curb.

  4. In the bottle: the greenest smell I'm ever experienced.

On the skin: still very herbal and green.

I thought I could tolerate the smell since I bought this more to work on my solar plexus than anything else. I just can't stand smelling myself when I wear this whether it works or not. :P

  5. My first experience with Aeval was a crushed imp that leaked on everything else in the package - but boy did it smell good!! Since there wasn't enough left for me to try it on my skin I bought another imp. Yum!

Sweet pea for sure, but not just simple sweet pea - you can tell there's more to it. I love musk, but I can't really pick it out here. Must be the tonka & sage (although I'm not sure what either of them smell like). I don't want to call it a "clean" smell because because that implies light and white. This has depth...and throw that I don't get from anything else. I'm afraid to actually say it, but this may run a close second to my beloved kitsune-tsuki.

  6. This smells sweet, but not in-your-face-juicy-fruit-sweet like Forbidden Fruit. Lotus, spice & lavender? Not to me. It fades fast though so I'll have to try it again before I can decide if I like it or not.

  7. This is the first time I've worn a scent without reading the description.

Immediately this smelled like lilac. After about an hour the lilac was gone and all that was left was the very faint smell of fireworks (maybe not all fireworks though - maybe just smoke bombs?). It's kinda good actually. I don't smell apples or roses and I'm not sure what ylang ylang and golden honey smell like.

And now I've learned a lesson - give an imp a chance no matter what the ingredient list looks like. It might surprise you...

  8. This smells like plumeria, pear and white champagne - it's that simple. It smells great, but doesn't last long on me. I may try it as a room scent though. No plans to buy a bottle, but I'll keep an imp around.

  9. When I wear this I smell spicy cherries. I love it! When my friends smell it on me they describe it as floral. Weird - I don't get anything floral at all. Maybe when I buy a bottle of this I will try it in the burner, but for now I only have an imp so it's all for me!!!

  10. My first impression when I smelled this in the imp is that it's strong and overpowering so I would only wear it to the bar. I set it aside because of that, but eventually got back to it. I tried it on and it just wasn't me. I figured I would save the imp though because you never know when you need a "not really me" scent. On a whim I put it on my husband. OMG - was this created for him?!?! Perfection. We're using it sparingly now because we only have the one imp, but when the 10mL from the lab gets here it will be his signature scent. I can't keep my hands off him!

  11. On me this smelled completely medicinal. I have a lotion called Sarna that has camphor and menthol in it, but that's a good medicinal whereas Ephemera was just bad. So I dumped the whole imp in the burner and it made a pretty decent room scent. It's very light so it barely fills the one room it's burning in. Nothing medicinal about it at all as a room scent so it must be my chemistry that ruins it.

  12. First this was all sandalwood. Then there was a slight chocolate smell, but as others have mentioned it's not Bliss chocolate - it's more cocoa. And now that it's dry it smells very smoky and "something". I don't know what myrrh smells like so maybe that's the "something".

    Overall I'm not very impressed.

eta: I just stuck my wrist in my husband's face and asked what he thought without giving my opinion. He said he liked it a lot. Different strokes for different folks...

  13. The first time I put this on my husband it reminded me of just an average drugstore men's cologne. I think I remember smelling a little leather - either way, I didn't like it or dislike it. The second time I put it on him it smelled of black pepper. I might give it another chance sometime, but so far I'm not really impressed.

  14. ... This perfume embodies her gentler, benign aspect as the capricious Goddess of Dance: muguet and Hawaiian white ginger enveloped by warm, damp tropical blooms.

Anyway...! Pele ends up being dewy white flowers and sweet ginger. It's actually putting me vaguely in mind of a lighter, paler alternative to Xiuhtecuhtli if that one's smokiness just isn't your thing. Xiuhtecuhtli is big, bold scarlet and orange and purple tropical flowers with smoke wafting over them; Pele's flowers are still big and lush, but dewy and white, and the ginger is a subtler and sweeter spiciness, becoming more prominent as it dries down. It's really nice.

This is exactly EXACTLY exactly how I would compare Pele & Xiuhtecuhtli!!

As for my review of Pele: To me this is a dead ringer for Jessica McClintock with much less throw. That's a very good thing - I have 10 ml on the way from the lab!

  15. This was one of the first BPAL scents I ever experienced. I liked the initial smell from the imp so I dumped almost the whole thing (by accident) in the burner. My house smelled incredible. I put it on my wrists and then I smelled incredible.

When I think of Kitsune-Tsuki I always think of purple glass. The thought of purple must come from the plum and the glass is maybe the white musk. I adore this. I have 10 ml coming from the lab and I already know that won't be enough for me. I have no idea which individual scent to thank for this awesomeness so I went through the entire GC for other oils containing plum, orchid, daffodil, jasmine or white musk.

    Kitsune-Tsuki is absolute perfection.

ETA: the original review was written based on the imp I had. Now that I've received my 10 mL bottle I swear all I smell is banana. Who knows - maybe it needs to age a bit. But I still love it with all my heart!!

  16. My first impression out of the bottle was cheap, dirty suntan lotion. When it dried the cheap & dirty smell went away (thankfully). Now it's just the faintest hint of coconut on top of a warm, spicy scent. I have no idea what that could be - it's something familiar that I just can't place.

I like it a lot and I think it's warm and spicy enough to wear year round, but not at all heavy. I have to actually put my arm to my nose to smell it. I'll probably end up getting a bottle of this one.

ETA: I recently smelled this again more than a year later (finally bought a bottle) and it's way better than I remember. It's a very creamy toasted coconut smell. Not overly foody. Not beachy.
