The Music of Erich Zahn
TrailerTrashPrincess replied to filigree_shadow's topic in Discontinued Scents
A ghoulish and tortured scent, suffused with the blackness of space illimitable: ajowan, vetiver, black musk, opoponax, mimosa, and tamarind. sniffed from the imp: a human musk (not an unwashed sort of smell, just... a skin sort of smell) running slightly toward the scent of Greed - with something sharp (the Vetiver, i'm guessing) that makes the inside of my nose tingle now, let me also say that i don't know what ajowan or tamarind are supposed to smell like. but on me, the black musk gives this a lovely foundation, the mimosa adds in something creamy-sweet and i'm guessing the myrrh/tamarind is what is adding the richness/depth here. i really don't like this at first, but after a bit it morphs into something truly lovely. i'd been putting off trying this for ages - and now i don't know why... i think the colour of the oil (almost Dragon's Blood red) may have been scaring me a little. -
sniffed from the imp: lavender and sugar on skin: this becomes a very "real" sort of lavender fragrance, not as minty as some, but still headache-inducing for me.
-
this is turning into some sort of medicinal or chemical smell on me. there's nothing soft here...and i must needs go scrub this off.
-
BPAL's Brimstone and....and...murky, swampy green-ness. i got some oil on my thumb while opening the imp and was pretty much overwhelmed with.... burning swamp? so, yeah. this one's Just A Hunka-Hunka Burnin' Swamp.
-
sniffed from the imp: smells cold... a cold, frozen floral. on skin: the cold smell goes away, the floral develops some more but also morphs into something that smells alcohol-based -- like perfumer's alcohol or vodka or maybe even aerosol hairspray. i get a wierd "hairspray" note from several BPAL blends, so that must be how my brain interprets some floral component.
-
sniffed from the imp: Lavender on skin: lavender and frankincense...and possibly the faintest whisper of rose.
-
to note: my bottle is about two years old... and i hate jasmine. i made a decant and decided to test it out, again. on me: the dust that is myrrh and the beast that is jasmine... and rose soap.
-
i hate jasmine. i opened the imp to try it out... and from two feet away i could smell the jasmine. and i'm just not that brave... i'm not willing to put that much jasmine on my skin
-
two of the four listed notes i love, the other two i don't... and sadly the two i don't take over. turns all Ylang-neroli on me.
-
oh, wow. this is so yummy. starts off like my favourite Mulberry candle (but better), but it is so much more than that. i'm not explaining it well - so i'll just say if it sounds appealing, go ahead and try it.
-
impsniff: yeah, it does smell like O, doesn't it? on skin: O with children's liquid Tylenol/fake sickly cherry. 'scuse me. must go scrub this off.
-
impsniff: mandrake, myrrh and something red. on skin: this reminds me, strangely, of Graveyard Dirt. and hairspray. but i like it!
-
sniffed from the imp: i can't identify any single note - it all blends into a cross between savory-rich fruits and that-BPAL-box-smell. but i like it. on skin: my first thought is that this smells like some evocative, rich, gorgeous men's cologne. like maybe something by Creed or Caswell Massey. after awhile it changes into just a high-end fragrance, like an expensive candle or a boutique. yet another not-at-all-what-i-was-expecting fragrance. overall very pretty, and quite unthreatening. lovely, but not me.
-
sniffed from the imp: uhm... smells like a pasture. a recently and often "fertilized" pasture. on skin: i don't get the description at all. i smell like a fertile pasture. farmland. nothing medicinal or cleaning product-like.... but for some strange reason i feel like going "Moo" this is oh so very not me.
-
impsniff: those "candy" orange slices that're like gummies but harder... and mangoes on skin: still with the candy orange, the mango is adding a bitter/sour note (i hate the way they smell), and i do get touches of sandalwood. overall: meh.
-
i hate pepper. sniffed from the imp, i smell pepper and instant powdered tea on skin: peppery honey with sushi-style pickled ginger i've tried this so many times, and it always turns out awful on me
-
non-resurrected original: jasmine be damned, i'm so glad i'm getting to try this! sniffed from the imp - smells medicinal and sharp on skin: i hate jasmine, but i'm not getting the awful jasmine that smells bad, thankfully. i get a stale/flat sort of rose scent and a powdery/dusty something that almost makes my eyes itch. i catch occasional whiffs of the heliotrope but i don't think it is holding up as well to the ravages of time and being trapped within the glass walls of impdom. end verdict: beautiful soft floral, expensive perfumed soap.

i'll say this... when i first got this bottle, i hated it. i like the GC Absinthe blend, and the listed notes all seem like something i would like... but for the first six months or so, it was too strong, too minty-anise-y or something. just too much. but now? gah! it has evolved into something creamy-sweet - and seems to fall into the category with some of my most favourite BPAL blends (Evening Star, House of Mirrors, Archanged Winter, Dorian) it is like the crisp green-ness of Absinthe has been blended with lots and lots of vanilla and sugar (not the awful "Vanilla Sugar" scent that's just coconut) and has mellowed out into something else entirely. *love* now. wish i hadn't swapped so much of it away edited again because when i posted it, it did
-
impsniff: red musk and wild strawberries skin: no change, still red musk and wild strawberries* if there's white musk, it is hiding from me...along with the white grapefruit for which i'm grateful cuz i hate it. *= we had grapevines and strawberries and wild strawberries when i was little... these are smells i know well.

partly because i live in Rome... and because Athens is only a few hours away. sniffed from the imp: smells like Lush's Flying Fox shower gel. on skin, it changes from honey-and-jasmine to clover honey and clover blossoms. nothing at all like what i was expecting, yet again. soft and pretty... but not for me.

Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?
TrailerTrashPrincess replied to Snow White's topic in BPAL FAQs
when i've used CCNOW, my order status changes to "shipped" a few days after i place the order but it doesn't actually ship until the Lab sends out the Click-n-Ship notices. even after all this time sometimes that still confuses me. -
this is truly nothing like what i was expecting! impsniff: reminds me of LUSH's Jungle conditioner (which i'm not too keen on the smell of) on skin: i can see the "greenery" but it isn't a grassy, herbal-y, forest-y or floral sort of green. almost more chemical than anything (like Simple Green), i'm sure there's musk giving everything a solid base, but i can't smell it...there is a Rappaccini's Garden sort of floral-ish-ness (like A.sphodel, Bell.adonna, Black Hell.ebore, Death Cap, Des.troying Angel or Man.drake - possibly Shadow Witch Orchid) overall, this seems like something i would like, but for some reason i don't.

sniffed from the bottle: cheesecake with strawberries and sugar syrup on skin: something like MB:Underpants and plastic-strawberry. nothing at all like the original. pooh!

i've had this for awhile and have tried it a few times for the intended purpose... and also for simply the smell. i don't like pickles. and i don't like olives. and this smells like pickled olives and nursing homes. as far as the relaxing/calming/finding my center... it doesn't help me in that respect at all, i keep getting distracted by the stench and it makes me uncomfortable all the way down to my bones.
