I love the original version!! It was dry and a bit spicy (kinda a lighter version of Velvet Bandito) ... I have a decant of this. Soooo I bought a bottle THINKING it would be the same but the 2nd run of Black Death is NOTHING like the original and I do mean NOTHING. I opened the bottle and it was like woah APPLE!!!! I'm not a big apple fan. There are others out there that also get this same note and compared it to Fearful Pleasure/Lamb's Wool/apple cider/spiced apples and I said it smells like the apple note in Agape. How can there be such a HUGE difference?? Hell apple isn't even one of the notes but that's all I keep hearing from others as well. I want the ORIGINAL Black Death damn-it. I'm heartbroken.

Yeah, I pulled a couple of decants from my original bottle and gifted them out, because I knew I had a backup coming. :\ I've been toying with emailing the lab over it, but I haven't done it. Technically I didn't buy it from the lab, but I dunno there is obviously something off with the second batch. Would it do any good, do you think? It might, maybe they don't know it's different. They are the only one's with the answers. If you do you are welcome to direct them to my post because there are two of us that notice a HUGE difference. I bought my bottle from a forum member over on Swappers and she may be a member here as well but I would buy another bottle from DD IF it was like the original batch. I am one sad lil puppy.

Yeah, the batch difference between the first and the second stocking of Black Death are HUGE. The second one is so much fruitier. It was different enough that I thought perhaps I got the wrong scent as well. Damn! Well at least that mystery is solved. and now I'm going off to throw a fit! lol. Thanks. ETA: Oh hell I didn't even see your post that was right above mine and posted in Feb. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with the Lab ... not even over the price hike. This though upsets me because I had my heart set on the original scent and had I known they changed it I would not have bought this. It's not horrible or anything like that it's just not what I fell in love with.

Black Death HELP! I had bought a bottle from DD for a Mod here on BPAL in a swap and when it arrived I opened it and smelled it and it was love. I posted a ISO on swappersonline (and BPAL) and swapped for a decant. The bottle and decant both smelled the same. :love: So I found a bottle for sale and bought it the other day. It arrived today and when I opened it up it was like whoooa ... APPLE! I mean it smells nothing like the original bottle that came to me nor the decant. Maybe way in the distance if I inhale really deep but the top note here smells like apple. :banghead: Think of the apple in Agape. Has anyone heard if there are batch variations? I'm soooo sad! I want the Black Death I tried before and thank god I still have the BD decant to compare it to. I almost frimped it out the other day knowing I had a bottle coming but at the last min. I kept it. ETA: The seller bought it from DD along with Black Heart and Black Lace and she was selling all of them so I'm the second owner and it's full to the shoulder and she only opened to sniff it twice. I believe her. Could the lab have filled it with the wrong scent by accident?

All of my 10ml's are in Cobalt bottles. They should have the same GC label as the original version. There is a pic here somewhere ... I'll find it for you. Here you go. The 10ml's came down in Aug 06 so your bottle would be aged 3+ years It's odd about the color but there could have been a component change. Like along time ago Oblivion was green in color (which I loved) and now it's clear yellow or something like that. What did you buy?

When I first got this decant I did not like it. Thank goodness I kept it around to age a bit. I love it!! It smells like chocolate, marshmallow & coconut (not like the box of chocolate one either from last years Luper). Not near as sweet as that one. Very soft and close to the skin scent. Need to find a bottle. ETA: This is like Demeter Croquembouche but BPAL's is like half strength. I'd still buy a bottle of Puppet. ETA #2: 10/5/2011 ... I'm shocked, I have never had this reaction to any BPAL! I re-tested this last night because I was just about to buy a bottle and this seriously made me sick to my stomach. The longer it was on the more I wanted to hurl. I had to wash it off. It must be the glue note. The decant I have will be frimped out and hopefully it will find a better more loving home.

On me this starts off very green (from the balsams) but within 5 mins the vanilla kicks in and the leather is right behind it. The Balsams are still there but in the background. It's so warm and cozy and reminds me of something I have smelled before. 6 hours later it's still going and I am loving it. I was so worried because it cost $25 +shipping (and I could have spent that money on my new love TKO) but I worried for nothing. phew!

I this blend. At first it's a very strong Lavender and then sweeten's up to a Lavender/Marshmallow. As I sniff my wrist and inhale deeply I can smell something exotic. Something from the middle east, a spice. Is there saffron in this?? This stuff is pure bliss!!

Excellent post Beth! BPAL is for me and I have over 200 bottles to prove it. Love the perfumes, love the company, love Beth, Puddin, Lilith, Brian and everyone else at the lab & love what the company stands for. They work their butts off just so I (and so many others) can smell fabulous!!

I bought a bottle of this right before it went down and at first I wasn't sure about it. It was strong and sharp. I put it up and forgot about it. This evening I decided to apply a little and WOW it's nice. This reminds me of Smut! Not so much Mme. Moriarty but pure de ol' SMUT.
