    Scents For The Stacks

Maybe Ü from the Mütter Museum series. On me it lasts a long time just on a few drops. It's very "green" with hints of balsam and resins in there too. It reminds me of being in a refreshingly cool, green house. I've worn it in several scenarios, and it still has consistent staying power (indoors, outdoors, in a hot car). It says in its description it has some leather and vanilla, but all I get is the greenery portion (so it must be faint, background notes). I put some droplets on my velvet necklace collar too, and it still lingers there even after two weeks.

    Ü Mütter Museum

Just got this recently from the Mütter Museum. From the bottle sniff, I'm getting that green and woodsy scent, but obviously very concentrated there. Some might say there it's astringently so, but for me it's smells like something lovely thriving in a botany class. On application, I get that green balsam with the barest hints of some softened leather with light vanilla sweetness in the backgrounds. It has super throw which I love, and the balsam seems to stay around the most slowly letting the other scents mingle more as the hours pass (and it does last). At times I'm getting that green house vibe, and as it dries it becomes more like a model craft and hobby store that used to be in our town. Both sides are lovely, and seem to create comfort scents that also work as lovely fragrances to wear. I think I've found my favorite BPAL green/woodsy scent so far. Totally didn't expect that, since I was looking for a more dry paper/bookish scent. Hopefully, I'll find one that fits that description; but this is a perfect scent in its own "greenwood" style as I like to call it. Total 5 out of 5 for me.

    The Red Rider

Just tried a bit of my imp sample yesterday, and now I'm typing down what I wrote on my memo pad about it. In the imp, it definitely carries the vibe of saddle leather. On my wrists it SCREAMS it's aged, saddle leather! While it has medium throw, the fragrance stays really concentrated throughout the day on my skin. It honestly reminds me of a spicier version of that soap and cologne called English Leather. Unfortunately, the heavy concentration near my skin might be too overpowering. Because it doesn't morph and fade a lot on me it has become hours and hours stuck in a leather shop that connects to the tannery there. In the sense, I actually get a bit of a headache from it (as I also do from some forms of incense). If you LOVE leather you may enjoy this one, but as for me I like the softer leathers and suede scents better (such as the more subtle Coyote). Perhaps I'll try the other "Riders" in the series, and hopefully one is a better match.

    The Zieba Tree

Just tried a bit from the imp sample I've got. In the container, it was more concentrated toward the various fruit blossoms in it. Then I tried some on my wrists where it evened out over time giving more of the dry sandalwood tones match those of the florals. I definitely get the light girly vibe from it, but perhaps still too light. When applied it stayed extremely close to the skin (like no whiffs at all), and faded really fast. I wonder if it's my body chemistry here, but I seem to have better luck with "woodsy" scents rather than floral-based. While a lovely scent throughout the wearing time I wish it had lingered longer and had more scent throw to it. I have a feeling my little sister would love it though (fruity and floral scents seem bow to her).

    Old books... Books, paper, libraries

I heard Miskatonic University does have more coffee hints to it, but I got an aged one (2004) that smells more towards the "oakwood" tones. Do the newer ones often carry stronger scents related to the Irish coffee, or is that just my body chemistry fooling with me? And also pertaining to bookish scents (opinion-wise), which has the strongest throws and/or staying power? Mainly asking this because most scents seem to soak in and fade fast on me.

    Miskatonic University

The scent of Irish coffee, dusty tomes and polished oakwood halls. I just won a bid on an aged Miskatonic University from 2004. I tried a couple drops and really WOW. And I don't mean World of Warcraft there. At first I got the oak and it steadily got richer with hints of paper within the hour. It lasted a good 5 hours just on those drops alone, and stayed pretty steady. I'm a little sad there wasn't a bit more Irish cream/coffee tones to it though. Perhaps the sugary bits faded in the aging, or its my body's chemistry. I still like it, but I'm getting a "I'm in the old library stacks where coffee is a prohibited drink" vibe. I'll continue to test and enjoy the more "oakwood hall" feel of it. Hopefully, one day though I'll try and compare a newer version with more coffee to it. I'd rate this aged version as a 4 out of 5.

    Vespillo

I got a partial bottle of this in a bid and I've got to say this one is surprising. It smells more masculine than unisex in the bottle. When I tried it the patchouli and clove came out strong and certainly had great throw. And this only from two drops on each wrist! A few hours in it does soften and the floral portions come out a bit more, but the patchouli and clove are still there in the background. It been about eight hours and I still get light whiffs of this. While on the more masculine side for me, I still really like it. I'm a sucker for earthy, masculine scents. It's 4.5 out of 5 for me.

    Sleipnir

Just got a 2009 bottle from bidding on it. I tried it and the hazelnut is definitely the strongest note on me, followed then by a bit of honey and hay. The other scents seem to take a backseat to the warmth of the hazelnut, which reminds me of a long forgotten lotion I used to have as a kid. But sadly, it's not very strong on me. It lingers, but it's very faint. I love it as a comfort scent when up real close (like sniffing your hand close). But it doesn't have the staying power for my body chemistry. Maybe it just needs to be slathered on more? I wonder if there's a way to enhance the hazelnut and keep it strong though?

    The Lurid Library

Oh my! I wanted to try a book-orientated fragrance because I find it to be a comfort scent. And when I won the bid for Lurid Library, I decided to try it now. I smelling it and I'm getting that sweet, yet dark incense and the dry tones that do remind me of very old books. It really does remind me of a few new age book shops I've gone to in the past. I actually really like it a lot because it balances out both the sweet and dry very well on me. I wonder now if other bookish scents would work well on me like this does? I give it a solid 4 out of five, only because around other people the incense might bother them.

    Snake Oil

I can understand why this is a big seller at BPAL. It at times varies between foody to just spicy, but I'm getting whiffs of the vanilla and the various spices. Though to me the spices kinda come come across as mix between a cream soda and a poppy seed muffin (hints of lemon?). While the spices can be puzzling, I love the scent throw on this and how the spices seem to shift with time. I do believe the vanilla works well with my body's chemistry too.

    Requesting Recommendations for Newbie

There's a vast range of leather - so, what sort of memory? My favourite leathers are:- White Rider - white leather and sandalwood Rogue - Soft, well-worn black leather, hemp, and rosin Whip - black leather & damp red rose As you also mentioned lilac, Bensiabel is plum juice, lilac, leather, and a smattering of herbs Thanks all for the replies these all sound interesting. For a particular leather I usually like a lot of variations, but my favorite is somewhere between that rough suede smell and saddle leather. I'll keep those in mind. Now to see if I can find others that are simliar to damp basement, Juicy Fruit, or maybe a bookish scent.

    Druid

I got a sample squirt of this, and have to say I really like it. It smells stronger than many of my other squirts samples, which is a must because scent fades fast on me. But I love the earthy and grassy vibes I'm getting from this. I even detect some wool in there as I have had scents rub off on my sweaters before. It almost brings on a "memory" scent of summer and fresh cut grasses for me. Now I'm curious about what herbs are in there (parsley, sage, rosemary, etc.)? Just wondering because they either sync together well, or aren't very prevalent on me. Either way, I think this is a great spring/summer scent. It oddly enough, makes me want to go back and read The Iron Druid Chronicles books (I could totally imagine the main character with this). I may get a bottle of this. Now to later try out Ranger and Rogue.

    Bliss

The item was not as expected. At first the scent was faint, and smelled of milk chocolate, almonds, and rubber (kind a bittersweet). I expected a stronger, more melted chocolate scent (like a s'more). It did warm in time and become nicer. And with some added vanilla lotion, it became smoother and sweeter. It has potential, but I think it needs a little tweaking to be stronger for me.

    Bluebeard

A very dark, earthy scent with the violets wafting in it. Made me think of damp soil and the underlying violet's scent made me think of its symbolism (modesty or faithfulness, deep love, spilt blood, and even mourning) from various cultures. I like it because of these contrasting thoughts where while it is dark and heady, it also has a sweetness to it.

    Requesting Recommendations for Newbie

Can one ask for recommendations based off of basic memory scents? If so I'm looking as a "noobie" for such scents that may have or be reminded of: -Fresh mowed green grass -Damp basement/humidifier -Carmex lip balm -Juicy Fruit gum -Lilac -Leather Not all mixed together, mind you. But any of those scents that appear similar in BPAL fragrances.
