    Yankee Candle to BPAL

Witch's Brew, a Halloween scented YC I saw today smells a lot like Doc Buzzard (at least to my nose)! Mmmm

    Voodoo Queen

Yay for sniffy circles! Thanks GypsyRoseRed! In the imp: Sweetness, golden amber-y sweetness...golden, that's the only way to describe the smell. There are some herbal notes, some of the same musky, earthy notes of Doc Buzzard...but it's like a pure reflection of it, the feminine counterpart to the masculine. Very cool! Wet: Warm, feathery, and light. Golden. Dry: It smells like a Snake Oil base, with the incredible golden sweetness wet (a little like Delerium, too)...but the lightness disappates, leaving this this sweet, strong warmth. I can't really smell the herbs individually, just as a depth and balance to the blend that (to me anyway) normal Snake Oil lacks. As cheesy as this probably sounds, it sounds like a powerful, strength-giving hug. It smells womanly, and strong, and smiling. As strange as this may sound, this scent blows my mind. I just smell it, and...it's like a TAL blend almost, I just feel more capable, in control, stronger. Very aromatherapeutic...I hope hope hope this gets re-released at some later date, because it's one of those rare scents I absolutely love and would wear all the time if I had a chance. It's like it smells like me, but the best me I can be. Mmmm...sigh. I'll be so sad to wash this off!

    Doc Buzzard

Yay for sniffy circles! Thanks GypsyRoseRed! In the imp: I can see the "pickles" reference early review rumors hinted of...but it's more of a sharp smell than a dill smell to me. Herbal, rooty, earthy, but with a sharpness I can't define. Not dill, but a tangy herb smell that's similar. Wet: All of the above, but something's morphing into a strange light...not floral, but kind of sour smell. But not a pickle sour. Hmmm... Dry: Some of the same notes of Storyville are present--not the foody ones, but kind of a tobacco-musk undertone is present in both. I can smell that really well...it smells a lot like my Dad's pipe tobacco from when I was little mixed with herbs and something musky. I cannot stop smelling my hand, it smells that good! And...the muskiness, there's something incredibly sexy and dirty about this particular musk. Combined with the herbal earthiness of the blend...well, it smells like down and dirty "Spike and Buffy" sex, like that first time where they were smashing walls and floors, and dust was flying everywhere. I don't know what that note is, but I want more of it! Now now now oh my God yes! LOL! If it ever comes back, I am buying it!

    Storyville

Yay for sniffy circles! Thanks GypsyRoseRed! In the imp: I have never eaten, seen, or tasted a beignet, but that has to be what that smell is! Mmmmmmm... Wet: Just as delicious as it was in the bottle! Dry: Tobacco, perfume, and powder duking it out. My husband likes the "smoking baby prostitute" combo, but I didn't like it...until I washed it off, leaving just a hint of tobacco and perfume. That smells pretty good! It has staying power, not that that was a good thing on me. I'm glad I got to try this, and the bottle scent is certainly wonderful, but it's not me. Whew!

    Harvest Moon 2006

In the bottle: Lightly sugared apples and spice. Mulled cider with a pale hint of something floral/green, and a lightly creamy base. Delicious . Wet: Mmmm...the floral/green is amped and complements the apple...it's almost like a fruity version of rose red with apples instead of roses. Dry: Where did it go? It's like this scent evaporates on contact with my skin . So sad...I guess this will be a scent for the scent lockets. Although I dabbed a bit on a tissue, and it has no throw. But it's a wonderful scent! Sigh.

    Orpheus

I love this scent! Evil Queen perfume...dark, aggressive, brooding, a little warped. A little Miss Havisham, but more masculine . Crushed greenery, but bitter greenery...dandelion leaves, greens. With a hint of something like avocado. Green over floral...but it ends up smelling like a dark, fragrant brew. It smells sooo good on, just like it does in the bottle...and not only does a little go a long way, but it's lasting. Mmmm!

    Litha 2006

It smells lovely and clean...like Jolly Roger, but without the citrus note that ends up smelling like bad B.O. on my skin. Just lovely...

    Et Lux Fuit

This scent is absolutely delicious...floral, a little fruity, and absolutely warm and lovely and almost (not really, 'cause its BPAL oil) edible. Its only fault is that it doesn't seem to last very long.

    Le Serpent Qui Danse

Le Serpent Qui Danse: In the bottle: Uh, Montessori school. Big building, unfamaliarity, many possibilities but with a narrow focus. Sorta fruity? Musky? Wet: Musk out the yin yang, and back in again. What the Hell is a “yin yang”, anyway? Should this scent be buying me dinner before doing this? I think it’s the fruitiness (is it the violet that smells fruity on me? Weird) that reminded me of Montessori school...snacks, and scheduled activities. Hey, and some little snot stole my favorite rabbit toy, one of those little clip on furry toys. It had a baby face, and was so cute. I never found another like it. Goddamn it, I can’t believe someone stole my bunny! Dry: Ancient, musky PB & J. And repressed childhood memories that possibly have no business being resurrected. And after a while...my mother’s old makeup drawer in the vanity, where she kept her unused makeup, where I could occasionally swipe things and she’d never notice they were missing (well, after a few years she caught on. But by then that makeup from the 60s really needed to be used if you know what I’m saying). Yeah, it had turned slightly, but it was Mom’s and it was beautiful, and if I put it on I’d be beautiful, too. Mmmm, the early 80s. And the feeling of searching for buried treasure! Oddly discordant, and yet wistfully evocative. And what a throw! The Verdict: Too early to tell. But the bunny? It’s long gone, and after 24 years, I have a sneaking suspicion it’s never coming back. Sniff.

    Endymion

Endymion: In the bottle: Fruity, light, and lickable, like a popsicle, or a lightly alcoholic tropical drink. Or, like your first love, wearing swimming trunks in the summertime, wet and innocent and intoxicating and half-naked, eating the popsicle. “Either way, what bliss?” Wet: Ooh, spilly. Ooh. Ohhh....ohhh. Citrus fruit. Fruit, and tongues, and kissing, and sweet, innocent first-kissing. Clean, fruity, and good-naturedly mischievous. Mmmm. Dry: All of the above, with a hint of the Tinkerbell talcum I bought once...clean, fruity, a little soapy, but not unpleasantly so. Innocent, but sensual and a little sexual. Ooh, and now it’s drying with an outlandish little powdery-tang. I...I want to do it again. Must...have...more... The Verdict: I bought 2 imps of this baby, and I don’t think that’s going to be enough. Dear GOD, I love this scent. Words can neither describe how lovely, nor how addictive this is.

    The Perfumed Garden

The Perfumed Garden: In the bottle: Sweet, a little bit sickly so—lethargic, bed-ridden floral. Getting the coffin picked out and ready kinda sickly. Nice, but with an afterthought of ewww. Very strong. Don’t ask me why, but is just screams of unwashed naked, depressed woman. Gwyneth Paltrow, pre-oven-nap in Sylvia. What IS that? Wet: Floral, languid but more lively than I expected. Kind of a moderate-paced floral, fruity fjord. Demure, subdued but not depressed. And that note that seemed so yucky seemed to disappear straight away. Sweet! But not too sweet. And...a little foody. It makes the tip of my tongue tingle. Dry: the icky note came back, but more mature and ready to commit. I smell the jasmine, I think, I think that was the note that seemed so objectionable in the bottle. Much better than in the bottle, by a lot. Although, does this say I am a naked, depressed woman? Hmmm. We’ll see how this works on the husband.* The Verdict? An optimistic thumbs up. Life is full of surprises, and I’m glad I took a chance on this one . *Mmmm, it gets his seal of approval! Edit: I just tried the 2007 version...while the first one was Jasmine-Jasmine-Jasmine, it's an afterthought in this blend. It smells a lot different to me.

    Hecate

HecateIn the bottle: Mmmm, intoxicating almond. Almond, almond, musk, almond. I'm in love. Wet: Mmmm, still almond. Must fight urge to eat wrist... Dry: Hey, where'd the almond go? Sweet...baby powder. Baby powder with a little depth, toddler powder if you will. Dang it! The first one I've tried that powdered out. Sigh. The Verdict: Uh, I like baby powder okay, but I am really disappointed that the almond left. Almond baby powder, now there's a scent! Eh, I'll try it again. But this doesn't seem very Hecate-ish to me. Hmmm. ADDED April 6: Ok, 2nd try. I was complaining to the husband, who lets me scent him (I'm fascinated by how different scents smell on him than on me. He's very patient). Anyway, I put a little more on him than me, and I was surprised by how much almond remained. So I tried the same thing with me, putting more on this time. And although it still smells a little powdery, my body sucks less of the almond. And...I am really, really starting to like this sugary almond powder musk that is Hecate for me. Not as much as smelling it in the bottle mind you . But, mmmm. I'll have to order a bottle sometime.
