Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1
loverstreet replied to awesomeoverlord's topic in Limited Editions
I got my Chaos CLXII today - on my Birthday! In the bottle it was a very faint form of Dorian, but on... oh Lordy! A beautiful combo of Dorian and Zarita - orange blossom, sugared cream and tea. Better than birthday cake, and less fattening! -
I wonder if the formulation on this has changed. Like some of the last posters, I'm not getting any type of carnation, orange or even patchouli - just WOOD! I was thinking sandalwood, but perhaps, as sookster said, its more of a cedar. But, dude, whatever it is, its strong!

RED LANTERN!! I tried some on my man when we were getting ready to go out, and we ended up never leaving home!

Best BPAL for gym, workout, sports, exercise?
loverstreet replied to quinkel's topic in Recommendations
My workout is mowing our lawn, and let me tell you, in Houston, TX, in the heat of summer, that involves a lot of sweat! I have found the scent that works best for me is Aries - the pepper keeps me motivated and the florals last the whole hour that I mow. Strangely enough, that's the ONLY time I wear Aries, as its too strong for me indoors. -
Let me just say that Marianne was the PERFECT date to take to my favorite goth club last night. Dark, strong, lots of eyeliner.

Sooooo! THIS is what Spring smells like when one isn't suffering from hay fever! I inhaled deeply from the bottle, and expected to start sneezing and watering immediately - but no! What gorgeous clover and grasses, a hint of carnation as it dries. No rose on me, thank heavens. This one is long lasting on me, and I snatched up 2 bottles.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
loverstreet replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
I was fortunate enough to enable my sister this holiday season ! After going through my stash, she decided that ROSES where her favs. However, I have almost no experience with BPAL rose scents, because rose on my skin becomes the raging Hulk (ROSE SMASH!!). For you rose lovers out there, what's the most popular? She also favors grassy scents, so any rose/grass combo would be lovely also. Thanks for your help! -
Started out with a lovely almondy sandlewood, then immediately the EVIL rose came out, and its all baby lotion. (ggrrrrrose! I should know better by now!)

SueDonym, Thanks so much for that informative and entertaining reply. I doubt I will ever actually make it across the country for a WillCall, but now, through your lovely description, I feel like I've been there (ok, and now I feel even WORSE). No, really, Thank you for filling in the blanks - now my imaginary WillCall will be even better...hmmm, a hug from Brian, eh?

Chocolate and Cocoa, in every combination possible
loverstreet replied to mand's topic in Recommendations
I would highly recommend Centzon Totochtin! Its the only cocoa/chocolate that I've been able to wear without it turning to plastic (Candy Butcher, Bliss, Vice, Boomslang, I'm talkin to youse guys). The combo of cocoa and rich tobacco are gorgeous, and it last forever! -
In the Bottle: Uh-oh, did I forget this has the dreaded honey in it? Wet: Whew, no honey on me. Instead mucho musk and something unidentifiable (the mysterious UNGUENTS?) Dry: OK, I divide my scents into 3 categories: daytime (ooo, I can't wait for everyone to smell this delicious scent!), night-time (mmm, this will set the mood), and Husband-Only (lock the door, baby!). This is absolutely in the third category. Great animal musk, similair to Smut, but much better on me. There's a touch of sweetness way in the background - must be the caramel - and the honey, which usually amps like crazy on me, is non-existent. Unfortunately, I must go wash this off, as we are having dinner at the pastor's house, and it might put a damper on things if I ravage my dh at the table. (now, when we get home, that's another story!)

In the Bottle: Basically musk Wet: The Dodo started off with a bit of a muted brown, medicinal smell - lots of musk and some cassia. Dry: See, here's the ingenuity of Beth and the Lab. Sniffing the wrist, its all musk and cassia, but when I wave my hands around (constantly, because that's how I express myself), I get a beautiful whiff of lemon. Never got mango or sandlewood, but the lemon grounded by cinnimony musk lasted several hours. For me, this is a perfect sitting-around-the-house-in-my-pj's-cause-its-spring-break scent.

In the Bottle: Ripe, red apple Wet: Yup, tangy, ripe apple, just off the tree Dry: Whoa! There's definitely something behind that lovely apple that makes it smell evil, in the best sense of the word. Opiummmmm gives it a bit of smokiness - really not sure what hemlock or oleander smell like, but the entire effect is luscious. A naughty, naughty apple. Edited to add: In a third wearing, I finally put my finger on it - an APPLETINI!

AAAAAAHHH!! I LOVE THIS!! In the Bottle: those lemon cookies that have powered sugar on them Wet: DUDE! This is so gorgeous! Bright, refreshing lime and fresh baked cookies. I usually only eat cookies with chocolate in them, but this is a buttery, sugar cookie that I think I would actually eat! Dry: With my nose on my wrist I get a straight shot of lime, but wafting around me is the cookie! So Drool-worthy! (ok, so yes, I should probably go eat some dinner - but still, YUM!)
-
In the bottle: Mostly Dragon's Blood Wet: WOW! Lots of rich honeysuckle, with just a whiff of pepper in the background. Dry: For the first hour or so, this is such a lovely honeysuckle, with the pepper just giving it a bit of sharpness - then it morphs into straight Dragon's Blood - all the way, baby! I didn't get any ginger, but the pepper gives it that nice spicy-itch-in-the-back-of-your-throat feel. DB tends to turn plasticy on me, but this one is behaving itself. This has enormous throw on me, and is still going strong after 5 hours.

OK, I know there's no bannana in this but....on me it's BANNANA BREAD with SPICES! I love this scent so much, and have gotten amazing compliments on it "What is that smell.....oh, did you bring in some bannana bread?..hmmmmm...". This last at least 12 hours on me, and has great throw!

General citrus recommendations - and discussion of all things orange
loverstreet replied to UltraViolet's topic in Recommendations
Although I'm usually a spicy scent sort of woman, lately I've been in the mood for citrus ones. For instance I've been using a honey, tangerine and grapefruit moisturizer after my showers and a lemon hand salve throughout the day at work. Obviously I need some citrus BPAL scents to join the fun. Spring, I love citrus as well. My newest fav is Shoggoth - gorgeous lemon with a background of coconut (sounds odd, but is really divine). Other favorites are Kumiho - creamy, sugary lemon drops, and Whitechapel - lime and lilacs. Manhattan also has a fresh, sophisticated lemon scent. -
For Christmas I slathered on the Punkie Night - it reminds me of the smells of the Kris Kringle Mart that we used to go to when I was a child in Germany.

BPAL Patchouli - there's nothing else like it
loverstreet replied to Ishtar's topic in Recommendations
I've never had any luck with patchouli, in fact I went through the GC and mentally X'd out all the patchouli scents, UNTIL.....URD! I received it as a frimp from an ebay purchase, and it turned out to be a gorgeous surprise! -
I received Urd as a frimp from an Ebay purchase (yea!), and quickly looked up the reviews before I tried it. I was expecting the worse, as patchouli and I aren't speaking - BUT! I really am amazed by this scent! Wet - No grape, only patchouli, and as mentioned on another post, pencil shavings - which is ok, because really, who doesnt' love pencils? Dry - What is that UNBELIEVABLE, golden, round, gorgeous smell floating all around me? is it the nag champa I've heard so much about? (for some reason when I read nag champa, I always imagined a chewing mare). I can't keep from rubbing my face all over my wrist, a la my kittycat. What a lovely surprise!

In the bottle, sugary musk. Upon application, I was amazed at how light the scent is on me. I'm getting no booze, a smidge of sugar, and lots of musk. I smell what I think is Siberian musk (I have a SN imp of Siberian, which I love), and then just basically "skin". Drydown: Musk, warm and comfy, very close to Buck Moon on me. I think this will be nice to mix with something sharper, say, Snake Charmer (my fave).

I've been waiting all week to wear my scarey gypsy costume, tobe worn with Mme Moriarty, naturally. BUT! in the scramble to finish seeing off my final piano student, throwing dinner at the kids, putting on their makeup (one was an EMO/ punk vampire, the other a zombie princess), and putting last minute lighting and spiderwebs up in our "parlor", I totally forgot to put on ANY scent (except probably flop sweat). I was climbing out of the shower around 11pm when I saw my beautiful bottle of MmM sitting there and AAAAAHHHHHH!!! Oh well, there's always RenFest this weekend!

Incredibly gorgeous! In the vial - Sharp orange and sandalwood. Wet - Sweet, rich orange and juicy mango. Dry - The white musk comes shining through, and blends so beautifully with the fruits. This reminds me of my very first perfume - a citrusy-musk that made me feel so grownup. BPAL's white musk can do no wrong on me - and Kuang Shi is on my big bottle list!

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here
loverstreet replied to ipb's topic in Recommendations
I have found great success with Wanda (mostly wine and leather on me), Loviatar (mmmmmm leather - very naughty), and Rage (rose geranium - although I can't quite describe what it is in this scent that drives my hubby CRAZY - in the very best way). To mix the three together is a guarantee an unforgettable evening! (and they all go great with a tight-lace corset - wink!)
