    Pugsley Hair Gloss

Pugsley hair gloss smells like my tortie kitty Mina and reminds me of her personality too. It's a gentle musky tea scent with just a hint of attitude. Mina is a catloaf with a hint of tortietude. Pugsley is just perfect.
  2. The grasping tentacles of vice: black musk, tobacco absolute, opium poppy accord, smoked khus, and oily black opoponax. I adore this! This octopus is hiding in the depths of the lake, in a swirl of smoky ink. There is nothing aquatic here, despite the name. It's a dark, inky but slightly sweet musk on my skin. It's so very well-blended but perhaps the touch of sweetness comes from the tobacco. I don't really know. Those dark smoky opium notes all agree with my chemistry. The perfume has lots of staying power. I wore it on the 6 hour drive home from Chicago and couldn't stop sniffing my wrist all day. This bottle is my most valuable memento from C2E2 for reasons. Thank you Beth for your time and attention at the Con and our lovely conversations and hugs! edited to add: I've been wearing this almost daily since I bought it. Now that it's had a bit of time to rest, the smoked khus is more apparent on my skin, and the overall scent is less sweet than it was the first few times I wore it. I do tend to amp smoky notes, especially vetiver, and khus is another term for it. I love smoky scents and this one is a real beauty.

    Goblin

Dab a bit behind each ear, and you'll be instantly inspired to alter street signs, shake fruit from your neighbor's trees, and hide your roommate's car keys. Black coconut, gnarly patchouli, and sweet benzoin. From the minute Beth commented here that she had this blend coming soon, I couldn't wait. I just knew that Goblin was made for me. I can't believe I'm the first one to review this new scent! Here goes... Upon opening the bottle, the first thing that hit me was the patchouli, but that was to be expected. I love patchouli, and by its nature, I expect it to come on strongly at first. I coudn't wait, and applied to each wrist. While the patch is foremost, there is a slight sharpness but sweetness mingled in which must be the benzoin and coconut. For those who fear patchouli, this is no dirty hippie scent. The notes are all mingling and swirling into a sweet, spicy, impish goblin. However, patchouli lovers- you must. try. this. I cannot stop sniffing myself. Ohhhh, I am in love! edited to add: Beth, thank you so much for making this a GC scent!

    Hal

I ordered my bottle of Hal back when the OLLAs first went live, during the Great Forum Crash of '14. I posted my review on a FB page that no longer exists, and forgot to post one here after the forums returned months later. So this overdue review is for my OG Hal. I rarely buy decants, but in the case of Hal, I got a decant first. The reason is simple: jasmine, spoiler of scents for me. I adore the song in the movie and just had to at least try the scent. Imagine my delight when it was a luscious exotic floral without the "bad jasmine" association! I promptly ordered a bottle. Unfortunately, in the full bottle, my experience was quite different. All jasmine, the "bad kind", and there was no way I could wear it. I swapped it away a few months later and never looked back. Sorry jasmine, you and I are never going to be friends. I did manage to use up my lovely decant over the years, but don't think I want to risk another try. Let the good memory remain.

    Adam

I ordered my bottle of Adam back when the OLLAs first went live, during the Great Forum Crash of '14. I posted my review on a FB page that no longer exists, and forgot to post one here after the forums returned months later. So this overdue review is for my OG Adam. I am always leery of leather scents, as I don't care for it on my skin. But I couldn't *not* order a bottle of Adam to go along with my Eve. Unfortunately, it was almost a single note chemical leather on me, and I knew I would never wear it. I swapped it away a few months later and never even considered replacing it. There are plenty of scents that I love, so no reason to feel bad that I have an occasional miss.

    Blood Popsicle

I ordered my bottle(s) of Blood Popsicle back when the OLLAs first went live, during the Great Forum Crash of '14. I posted my review on a FB page that no longer exists, and forgot to post one here after the forums returned months later. So this overdue review is for my OG Blood Popsicle. I love it! There is a hint of dragon's blood here, but it is not as strong as dragon's blood usually smells. It is a note that I love, but my favorite dragon's blood scents are generally very dark: Dragon's Heart and Blood in particular. This hint of blood might be touched with a kiss of red musk as well, another note I adore. Some have described a cinnamon note, but I don't detect that myself. What I get is a bit of frost- you know how a freezer has that frosty smell when you open it? It's not a specific scent like Beth's snow notes, but a slight tickle of cold in your sinus as you inhale. Blood Popsicle is just as described, and yet indescribable. I love it. Mine has aged very well, with little to no change. It's great for hot summer nights!

    Eve

I purchased my bottle(s) of Eve as soon as the OLLAs went live in 2014. Unfortunately, that was during the Great Forum Crash of '14, and my review was posted on a FB page that no longer exists. I forgot to post it when the forum finally returned months later. So this review is for OG OLLA Eve, from back in 2014. I love OLLA Eve. She is the exotic scent that I wish Morocco smelled like to me and on me. Unfortunately, given that Morocco is GC and affordable/sustainable, I am actually nose blind to it and can't smell it on my own skin. Thus my love for Eve. I don't actually detect rose as a distinct note in Eve, and I usually amp rose. She is a gentle breeze amidst the walkways and alleys in the bazaar, with hints of spices, flowers, and the exotic scents swirling together. Aged now, Eve is as gorgeous as ever. I was tempted to add more bottles to my collection when the OLLAs were resurrected, but I decided to let others experience her. I don't wear mine often, as I prefer to really savor her as something Special, reserved for times when I am with loved ones and friends. She is beautiful, exotic, and yet unassuming and inoffensive. Just as ageless vampire Eve can intermingle with mere humans in the movie, present but not intrusive, so too can her namesake scent.

    Eve (With Sage Fuck Up)

I love OLLA Eve. She is the exotic scent that I wish Morocco smelled like to me and on me. Unfortunately, given that Morocco is GC, I am actually nose blind to it and can't smell it on my own skin. Thus my love for Eve. I don't actually detect rose as a distinct note in Eve, and I usually amp rose. She is a gentle breeze amidst the walkways and alleys in the bazaar, with hints of spices, flowers, and the exotic scents swirling together. I didn't hesitate to buy two bottles of Eve w/Sage. Upon first sniff, there is unmistakably the scent of Eve, but this time she has more of the dry spices of the desert clinging to her. The sage gives her more of an incense aura, which is even more to my liking! This blend is more long-lasting on my skin, too. I am sorry that Beth goofed up anjug of gorgeous Eve, but so delighted that we can benefit from the mistake. This is absolutely gorgeous!

    Dragon-Smooched Snake Oil

The minute I saw Beth's announcement, I knew I needed eleventybillion bottles of this. Unfortunately, I could only afford two. I'm not complaining, however, as I am one of the lucky ones. Snake Oil is one of my very favorite scents of all time. I love it fresh, aged, and usually as a base in the other related Snake Oil scents. Patchouli is a lifelong love of mine. And then there's Beth's Dragon's Blood, another note I adore, especially in Dragon's Milk. So when this "oops" of Beth's was announced, BE STILL MY BEATING HEART! Fresh from the mailbox, the Snake Oil was the first thing I smelled, with just a hint of dragon's blood. I've been wearing it every day for five days in a row, and it's getting better and better. The extra patchouli makes the Snake Oil smell like it's supersized, and the dragon's blood and honey give this a Dragon's Milk sweetness, but it's not as sticky-sweet as DM can be on my skin. I'm going to go through my first bottle too fast, but what a way to go. Beth, thank you so much for sharing this "oops" with us! It really is the scent of my dreams. I love this, and am putting away my second bottle to age because this is going to be Ah-may-zing in the future, given its beauty now.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller Hair Gloss

I adore Mme. Moriarty perfume and am rationing my original bottle of her while I'm able to wear the more recent release of the perfume with wilder abandon. I obviously voted for Mme. Moriarty in the lunacy poll, and although I would have LOVED a bath oil, it was a no-brainer to order the hair gloss. Scent-wise, my bottle is definitely that scent I love, but it is very soft and I was surprised by that. The lack of strength and throw make the hair gloss wearable in many more settings, but I was really hoping for a stronger WOMAN in my bottle of hair gloss, as she is in the perfume.

Sensitive Folk Music Dragon Hair Gloss

I thought I had already reviewed this, but apparently not. First, thanks again to my wonderful fairy for picking this up for me! I adore each of the notes in this, and was especially looking forward to a hair gloss with nag champa. SFMD does not disappoint! The sensitive part comes from the fact that this is not an in your face hippie scent, although it has that sensibility (see what I did there?) The notes are gentle but present and it's extremely wearable in many more situations than I had expected. I really love this. It also pairs perfectly with my Lab Rat perfume! (among many others)

    Autumn Cider Hair Gloss

I bought this because I was in the mood for a fruity scent that would go with my autumn apple scents, but also hoping it could replace my Gluhwein hair gloss, which is almost gone. I think I chose wisely! Autumn Cider hair gloss isn't as strong or super-sweet as my Autumn Cider perfume. This has a dusky fruit scent to it, a hint of butterscotch, and is soft enough to wear with many scents year round. I'm glad I got the bottle!

    A Sweet Sleep Hair Gloss

This is the same lavender as in TKO. I have TKO massage oil and atmo spray, and this is a softer, sweeter, gentler version of TKO! The atmo and massage oil can be very "in your face" with strength and throw, but this is very pretty and wearable. I don't really care for bergamot and was worried about it, but I really don't smell it as a distinct note here. In fact, the other notes are blended into the lavender so well that none of them stands out. I haven't tried any of the other lavender hair glosses, but this one is exactly what I was hoping for!

    The Gorobble

THE GOROBBLEA scent redolent of the crusty exterior of burnt marshmallows. Fresh from the mailbox, and I'm already in heaven over this scent! The Gorobble is exactly as described: smoky toasted marshmallows! It's got a tinge of bonfire smoke- not a burnt kind of smoke or that burnt sugar smell, but truly captures the scent of a marshmallow being toasted over a campfire. The marshmallow is sweet and melty. This is the scent of my dreams, and I know that it's going to age beautifully. I'm already trying to decide whether I will be able to stop at two backups or might as well get three. I need lots and lots of Gorobble!

    Sugar Skull Bath Oil

Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. Sugar Skull is one of my favorite Halloweenie perfumes, and I have bottles from several different years. When this won the Lunacy poll, there was no way I could resist it! It has the same sweet sugar, both brown and slightly caramelized, with a bit of fruit that sweetens it even further. I detect some spice in the bath oil that isn't present in my perfumes (although I haven't yet tried the 2017 version.) No matter- it is still delicious Sugar Skull! I use my bath oils as after-shower moisturizers, and this has amazing throw and is long wearing. It also scented the shower nicely when I took my shower the next day. I'm sorry I didn't buy two bottles when I had the chance, as I expect to go through this quickly.

    Closet Raid

Playing "dress-up" in my mother's and best friends' mothers' clothes was my favorite past-time as a child. With my Gemini nature, I still want to dress in many different styles depending on my mood, and have never developed a signature clothing style for myself. I range from anything sparkly and velvet, to leggings and tunics, to tees and jeans or broomstick skirts, boots or platforms. Sadly I can't wear heels after a serious fracture. But my style is nothing if not eclectic. So also is my perfume, though it leans heavily towards incense and patchouli. I wore Chanel No. 5 way back as a young woman in the 70s. I haven't smelled it in decades, but the minute I applied Closet Raid to my wrist, I immediately recognized the scent! It is so gorgeous, and now that I'm a woman of a certain age, it seems even more appropriate and perfect to wear. The hint of Snake Oil shows up after about an hour, along with the lavender. Overall, this is so well-blended that I keep sniffing my inner arm to be sure I'm getting all the notes. This is the most elegant BPAL I've smelled or worn. I'm reserving this for special occasions because as much as I want to order a backup bottle, I simply have to limit my backups. I'm already drowning in more BPAL than I will ever wear. But if I could, this would be a hoarder for me. Love this one with all my heart. And the label is perfect! ❤❤❤

    Golden Champa Attar

I need to catch up on doing my reviews! I don't have a lot to add that hasn't already been said. I adore good Nag champa incense and that old 70s headshop smell. Golden Champa Attar brings back memories, but adds an even better feeling because it's BPAL. I recognize the note in so many of my favorites, and am excited to be able to wear it on its own. This s a strong, syrupy oil, it has a lot of throw, and lasts forever on my skin. I'm so glad I planned ahead and ordered two bottles right away. I'd have hated to miss this one!

    Antique Lace Hair Gloss

I had never tried Antique Lace, but I snatched this up immediately because I knew I would love it. It's a gorgeous warm vanilla with just a hint of linen. The hair gloss is more vanilla-forward than the re-released perfume, which I also bought. It is absolutely lovely, and the perfect scent to wear when I'm with my grandson. I will save the hair gloss and perfume for my babysitting days so they become "his" scent memory of Nana.

    Lab Rat

Lab Rat is so much fun! At first sniff, it really does have that quintiscentual (see what I did there ) BPAL box smell! My collection is made up primarily of incense, musk, Dragon's blood, and other resin scents, with a heavy dose of patchouli and Snake Oil. So imagine my surprise when this wears so close to the skin! It doesn't scream out, and I don't amp any particular note that I usually amp. I do detect a hint of leather, a note I avoid, but it doesn't dominate. I think folks will either pick out their most loved notes or their death notes; seems like this could go either way. But for me, it's a lovely way to introduce someone to the wonders of BPAL by sticking my wrist under their nose and asking what they think I'm wearing. HAHAHA- no one will ever guess, but I bet they will be intrigued enough to enter the rabbit hole of our love!

    Bonfire Smoke Atmosphere Spray

Woodmoke, glowing embers, drifting ash, and the memory of bones. At first spray, this is a high pitched, sharp smoke, which wasn't what I expected. But it quickly dissipated into something warm and comfy. There is a hint of things thrown into this bonfire besides firewood- it's not strictly a campfire, but perhaps some old boards with rusty nails are burning in the bonfire, giving just a hint of metal in with the wood. As it fades, the wood burns down into that familiar campfire smell, and softens into the smell you have left in your hair or on a sweater the next day after the bonfire is gone. Interestingly, this isn't as strong or long-lasting as Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Pyre, which lasts for days. This is a good smoke scent for those of us who miss having a fireplace and want to add that touch of coziness to the home. It's really lovely to add a touch of smoke when sprayed alongside another room spray, such as Konditorie, Samhain, or other foodie sprays.

Shadows of the Things That Have Been Hair Gloss

Oh my gosh this is so good! The rum isn't boozy so I don't have to worry about wearing this and people thinking I've been drinking. The firewood is that gorgeous smoky scent that lingers in a room with a cracking fire. I was hoping that a decants would suffice since I'm really trying to cut down on my buying and even doing some destashing, but this is too pretty to miss having around for winters to come. This has such a warm feeling and will be so good on cold autumn and winter nights. I also think it will smell awesome layered with Boo hair gloss! Yep, a full bottle is on its way to me.
  23. Smoke-touched and dusky. I will do a quick review with this one straight from the mailbox, because I'm sure others are waiting with anticipation just like I was to read about the new Weenie glosses. I'll come back and add to this after I have a chance to do a real test on my hair, which already has another hair gloss in it today. I have done a quick sniff of Autumn Leaves & Haitian Patchouli (barely a spray into my palms) and it is a dried leaves and grasses scent. As a quick comparison, the Amber & Patchouli hair gloss is a sweet patchouli scent where the patchouli is very present, and is one of my favorites by far, which is saying a lot since I love my wide variety of hair glosses. This one is not sweet at all, it's Beth's red leaf note found in so many of the autumn scents. The leaves are dry and the patchouli is in the background and adds to the grounded herbal feeling of this. It's definitely not hippie patchouli. Initial impression is that it will be a great autumnal scent, not an "in your face" patchouli scent at all, and would be worn starting in late summer when you are craving autumn but it's too hot to wear your full-on Halloween scents. I can't wait to give it a full test on my hair. Edited to add full test on clean hair and after letting bottle rest a couple of days: FABULOUS!! On towel-dried hair, to comb through tangles, I can smell the patchouli more. After blow-drying with a diffuser, a couple more sprays on the ends. The leaves are there but very well-blended with the patchouli, and it's sweeter on my hair than I first thought it would be, though hardly what one would call a sweet scent. I need a backup bottle STAT. Anyone who loves Beth's scents with leaf notes, buy this now. So warm and autumnal.

    Ecclesiastical Excesses

ECCLESIASTICAL EXCESSES Hark, Ambrosio, while I unveil your crimes! You have shed the blood of two innocents; Antonia and Elvira perished by your hand. That Antonia whom you violated, was your Sister! That Elvira whom you murdered, gave you birth! Tremble, abandoned Hypocrite! Inhuman Parricide! Incestuous Ravisher! Tremble at the extent of your offences! And you it was who thought yourself proof against temptation, absolved from human frailties, and free from error and vice! Is pride then a virtue? Is inhumanity no fault? Know, vain Man! That I long have marked you for my prey: I watched the movements of your heart; I saw that you were virtuous from vanity, not principle, and I seized the fit moment of seduction. I observed your blind idolatry of the Madonna's picture. I bade a subordinate but crafty spirit assume a similar form, and you eagerly yielded to the blandishments of Matilda. Your pride was gratified by her flattery; Your lust only needed an opportunity to break forth; You ran into the snare blindly, and scrupled not to commit a crime which you blamed in another with unfeeling severity. It was I who threw Matilda in your way; It was I who gave you entrance to Antonia's chamber; It was I who caused the dagger to be given you which pierced your Sister's bosom; and it was I who warned Elvira in dreams of your designs upon her Daughter, and thus, by preventing your profiting by her sleep, compelled you to add rape as well as incest to the catalogue of your crimes. Hear, hear, Ambrosio! Had you resisted me one minute longer, you had saved your body and soul. The guards whom you heard at your prison door came to signify your pardon. But I had already triumphed: My plots had already succeeded. Scarcely could I propose crimes so quick as you performed them. You are mine, and Heaven itself cannot rescue you from my power. Hope not that your penitence will make void our contract. Here is your bond signed with your blood; You have given up your claim to mercy, and nothing can restore to you the rights which you have foolishly resigned. Believe you that your secret thoughts escaped me? No, no, I read them all! You trusted that you should still have time for repentance. I saw your artifice, knew its falsity, and rejoiced in deceiving the deceiver! You are mine beyond reprieve: I burn to possess my right, and alive you quit not these mountains. —The Monk, MG Lewis Faustian depravity: daemonorops, rose-infused frankincense, vetiver, mate absolute, and clove bud. I really hoped that since this has so many notes of WIN for me (daemondrops, vetiver, clove, frankincense) that Ecclesiastical Excesses would be a spicy incense perfume with just a hint of rose. Once again, rose takes over everything else and amps to !SOAP! After the drydown, it has mellowed to a frankincense-rose blend, but nothing more. Disappointed.

    Vampire Red Hair Gloss

Gorgeous red musk and patchouli (make sure you shake this one good to mix everything!) and just enough vetiver to give this vampire a bite! This hair gloss is strong and very long-lasting in my hair. I really want to get a backup bottle because she's just different enough from all my other red musk hair glosses that I will be sad when she's gone.
