At first this is all cherry and rose- very juicy and volutpuous. The rose is very true and does not go sour, thank goodness!! After it has dried for a while, the currant and plum come out a bit and round out the blend. I can't really smell the fig or carnation at all, but that's alright b/c what I am smelling is truly beautiful. I wish I had gotten more than one bottle of this blend b/c I love rose and fruit together, especially when the rose behaves itself

Hunter Moon, on my skin, is a sweet, creamy musk. There are definitely wine notes in this, but they are very soft and not extremely fruity- just a touch sweet. I can't really detect the dry leaves and bonfires- there isn't any smokiness to my nose in any of its stages. The musk in this is very soft and 'fuzy'- similar to Coyote, Buck Moon and A Bachelor's Dog. The lovely musk isn't always apparent- sometimes it gets lost in the sweetness of the wine but then I can catch a trace of it moments later. This scent stays very close to my skin after the drydown, but wears on for quite a while. I really enjoy this one and it is surely tied with Singing Moon as my favorite lunacy blend so far this year.

The Perilous Parlor is such a soft, enticing blend! The pear and vanilla mingle very nicely together, creating a mellow sweetness that only improves as time passes. The vanilla here is really soft and comforting. This is a great 'snuggly' scent- perfect for cold nights spent reading a book under the covers, but also appropriate for going out as the vanilla in this is undeniably sexy! Normally the BPAL blends with pear don't work on me, so I am incredibly glad this one does, as I do love my vanilla scents. PP lasts a long time on my skin, and eventually becomes a pure, soft strictly vanilla scent before it goes away. Definitely getting multiples of this one!!

This is an odd one, fore sure! At first it is powerful neroli with a touch of orange blossom and mimosa. The bergamot and clove enter during the drydown, creating the 'bittersweet' part of the fragrance. However somewhere in there enters a soapy smell too, leaving me with orange and mimosa soap. This was a highly unpleasant smell to my nose, and made me want to wash it off immediately. I waited for a while to see if the soap would subside but it didn't. Alas, I am unsure what did not work for me in this blend, perhaps the mimosa? Maybe the combination of notes? Anyhow, this lovely will surely be going to a new home!

This blend is certainly for the patchouli lovers only! On my skin it is pure, strong, gritty, lovvvely patchouli with a hint of benzoin and coconut. The blend mellows somewhat on my skin and the coconut comes out a tiny bit more in the drydown, but all in all it stays very similar throughout. As far comparing other BPAL blends with coconut, this is like a dirtier, darker version of Brown Jenkins- if it took steroids...the patchouli is similar to that which is in Depraved, imo. I really love this, and am so glad I ordered a bottle unsniffed. It's a perfect addition to all of the wonderful GC patchouli blends, and one I will definitely wear often.

Queen of Sheba is an exotic, rich and spicy almond both in the bottle and on my skin. Actually, what I smell initially changes very little when I wear it. As time goes on the spice mellows out A LOT to the point of disappearing- this made me very sad. I would really love this one if it lasted longer on me- after the spices go (this is, for time reference, after about 1 hour) the rest of the almondy goodness sticks around for maybe another 1/2 hour and then it too is gone. A really beautiful scent, and definitely appropriate for the Queen of Sheba, but all too fleeting on me, sadly.

This stuff smells amazing....it is slightly foody (and yes, I get a strong almost effervescent orange from this, too), yet grounded by the depth of the amber. I really love the walnut and hope that it will appear in more blends in the future . I knew from the moment that I put it on to test a few months ago that it reminded me of something, and last night while out at the bar I finally figured it out- Dorelei, one of my favorite French beers It smells almost exactly like it this stuff tastes. Yum. Anyhow, this is a great scent and does exceptionally well in my scent locket, too, where it has an incredible amount of throw. I'm definitely glad that I got a bottle of this one!!

This scent is a vetiver lover's dream! It starts off very smoky and pungent- it actually made me cough when I sniffed it too close! As it dries the vetiver comes out and mingles with the smoke and pepperiness to form the ultimate smoky woods scent. (and whoever said this was like Lapsang Souchong was totally right, this does remind me a lot of that, too) This is such a wonderful fall and winter scent for me, as I love the warmth that exudes from smoky and earthy blends, and smelling them outside in comparison with the chill air. Just be careful not to put on too much of this one because it's really strong and it might cause a headache. I am surely getting a bottle of this one in my next order, it's fabulous! If you love Malediction, Brimstone, and Djinn then this is a must try

Yum yum yum!! This is one sexy blend, that is for sure! At first it is predominantly almond and rose (and a nice well behaved rose, for me, too- yay), but as it dries the spices come to the forefront and balance everything out. The orange shows up last, but really rounds out the blend and turns it into something special. This is a lot like Jezebel in feel, to me, and I have a bottle of that so I am not sure that I would buy a bottle of this straight away but I am going to certainly enjoy my imp. It really reminds me of sitting in a lovely tea room on cushions with the breeze blowing incense throughout the room... a wonderful blend, indeed!

My first impression of Venice was citrus + jasmine, very golden and glittering. I can detect a hint of currant, but the other notes are really in the background in comparison to the two 'main highlights'. I think the other notes are somehow keeping the jasmine in check b/c it does not go rotten or metallic on me. Somehow in the drydown there is a tiny hint of soapiness and I can smell a little itty bit of violet and orris, which is nice. This is a lovely blend and really appropriate for representing Venice and the renaissance, but it is really not my style, so off to swaps it goes...

I am finding lately that I have a thing for lotus...so when I got this one as a frimp I was quite pleased I must agree with others before me in saying that this is a juicy rose scent made sweeter by the lotus- I'd say the blend of the two is pretty 50/50. However, there is a rose in here that is not going well with my chemistry and for part of the drydown this scent does sharp and acetone like on me . Ick. When it's fully dry it does smell wonderful and the rose is back to behaving itself. I guess the lotus won the battle, or something... I do like this one but I don't think I can put up with the acetone phase every time I'd want to wear it. I think it's much better off in my scent locket, or as a room scent. Those who like Persephone should definitely try this, though. There is a very similar rich, sweet, exotic feel between these two scents.

I amazed that this one worked as well as it did on me. Tea rose is one of those notes that my body turns horribly acidic, but in this blend it stys true to its scent. I bet that it's the vanilla musk balancing it out. The lily adds an extra touch of sweetness to this, which I enjoy very much. As it continues to dry on my skin there is a powdery aspect of this that comes forth, but it surely does not turn to baby powder. It's more of a powdery lace type of scent, if that makes sense. (actually, this is similar to Antique Lace on me in some ways...but much more floral, obviously!) I do enjoy this one, but it's not quite 'me' enough to warrant a bottle. However if I manage to finish my imp, I'll have to reconsider that!

Yvaine starts off as pure lavender on my skin. Very high pitched and sharp. Later the magnolia appears when it has dried, and it becomes very sweet with a hint of the sharp lavender in the background. There are other notes in this, but I am having a hardtime picking them out. Possibly a sugary note and some light skin musk as well... Normally I do not like magnolia, but I really find myself sniffing the spot on my arm again and again. It's such a soothing, sweet and feminine smell without being cloying or old lady-ish. Yvaine is definitely a perfect scent for the character, and I will be adding this one to my bottle wishlist asap. Lovely!!

So I have officially, with the exception of Havana (I am going to get an imp in my next order, I swear!), I have tried every scent in the Wanderlust category! It's my first GC category that I've tried everything in....scary.... Now if only I could review the entire category- I was so bad at keeping track of those things when I first started wearing BPAL. Anyway, back to work! Only 8 days until this concert series I have to play in (which I was notified of 10 days in advance- argh! why can't they be organized?), and there is lots to be done....
-
When I first smelled the bottle I recoiled a little bit. Not that it smelled bad, but it reminded me of some similar scents in the GC that went very VERY wrong on me - The Hamptons, Twenty One, and Swank...those bubbly, fruity alcoholic scents which smelled of rotten eggs and moldy fruit on my skin. With that I almost decided to sell or swap my bottle without even trying it, but...somehow I decided to test an eensy drop of it. and it worked! Somehow, magically, I did not get the rotten egg smell that I did from those other aforementioned blends. Pruno smelled on my skin mainly of a somewhat fruity ginger ale. I actually got complimented on it, too... So I am pretty glad that I tried this one. A definite keeper, and probably the only bubbly, fizzy, fruity blend of BPAL's that I will ever be able to wear!

I noticed this on stellans' signature and I thought it was a great idea! Over time, I will keep adding links ot my reviews (I have done so many and I don't have the time to find them all at once...) just in case you're curious. Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

On me SM goes sort of cola-ish and the only other BPAL that does a similar thing is Dragons Bone. They're not exactly alike or anything, but if you were willing to layer, I think Dragons Bone would be a good component. Oddly enough, on my skin, I found The Music of Erich Zahn to be very similar to SM. The only difference on me was the tamarind note which adds a slight bit of tart/sweetness to Erich Zahn- I have had my bottle since it came out (almost a year??) and the resins have gotten a bit deeper and the tamarind has backed down a bit. It's very lovely :nods: -
I'm wearing this one today and it's one of the first BPAL scents I tried, so I thought I'd finally review it Blood is a very intensly sweet dragon's blood blend! The cherry and db go togther very seamlessly to form a core of sweetness that has TONS of throw on me. The clove fits in perfectly with the sweetness, preventing it from being too candy like and adding a really nice bite. (appropriate for a scent named Blood, lol). The myrrh is the element of the scent that I sense the least. Occasionally I can get a whiff of it, but it's very much in the background for me (odd, b/c I usually amp myrrh a LOT). I love rich, sweet, spicy scents, so it was obvious that this would be a bottle purchase for me. it makes me feel very very sexy and lasts forever on my skin. If you like some of the sweeter Ars Draconis scents (Dragon's Milk, Dragon's Heart & Tann'iver, to name a few) then you should give Blood a try. It's definitely a BPAL classic. edited 'cause I can't type very well...

I really enjoy Anubis for a more golden, rich herbal scent and Ochosi for a lighter, more creamy one. Also, as far as mint scents go, Cathode is really quite nice, too
-
I get a lot of almond with this one initially, but then as it dries a certain herbal quality comes forth. I'd almost want to say that there is some myrrh in here as well, but I am not quite sure. It takes on a more incense like quality when it's dry, but with the almond still floating on top. I don't get a lot of fruit like others have said; this blend is not sweet on me in the least. This scent really makes me feel sexy. It is very dark and luxurious, and brings to mind images of lounging around on lavish cushions...definitely where I'd like to be right now Even though it's a really sexy scent, I think it's quite appropriate for all occasions. I could defnitely wear this one in my pajamas! This was one of the first imps I tried two years ago, and I'm glad I finally got around to ordering a bottle because it's realyl quite fabulous.

First off, thanks so much teh gwynhwyfar for the frimp of this I didn't think that this one would be up my alley, but I am really enjoying it! At first it smells like hardcore lemon cleanser, but within seconds it softens to a lemon/vanilla/sea spray sort of scent, similar to F5 but with vanilla and a tiny tiny bit of spice (I think, or at least that's what my nose is telling me). This is a really clean and refreshing scent that doesn't go soapy on me. Too bad there won't be a bottle of this, as I would totally get one. Good lemon scents are hard for my skin chemistry to come by!
-
At first this starts out very very green on my skin, with a hint of floral. Then all of sudden it seems to turn straight to floral baby powder. Yuck, yuck. Off to swaps.

Man I am beyond excited for this year's Halloween blends! Too bad they came out at a time when I am a bit on the poor side. Thankfully I have a few months to save up some spare change Anyway, here are my thoughts... HUNTER MOON Dry leaves, autumn bonfires, blood red wine, feral, animalistic notes and the chill of approaching winter. Oh yes. Despite the fact that I collect the lunacies anyway, this one sounds particularly appealing (bonfires, leaves, feral, wooo!!). I ordered it asap and I an't wait ot try it. AEAEA A dark ocean breeze, electric with adrenaline, magic, and fear, clashing with the thick scent of poisoned berries and spiny aloe, against a backdrop of snowdrop, cedar, and cypress. This might go soapy on me, but I love the idea of sharp berries and wood, so I ordered a bottle. The only ther. blend that didn't work on me this year was Allison Gross, so I might as well try this too. LIBRA 2007 Rose, black cherry, carnation, fig, honey, plum, and black currant. Definitely a yes. I love all these notes (rose paired with sweet fruits always works on me) so this was a no-brainer. ALL SOULS 2007 An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes. I loved last year's version, but I don't tend to wear it very often, so I don't think I'll be getting another bottle of this. BONFIRE NIGHT Beer, woodsmoke, tar, and treacle. Hm. I am on the fence about this one. Beer might go cat pea on me like the hops did in A Bold Bluff, but then again it may be ok due to the balancing of the other notes. I do love treacle....I think I am going to try and get a decant of this first to find out if it works on me. THE DEATH OF AUTUMN Dark amber, dead leaves, khus, saffron, bitter clove, chrysanthemum, camellia, galangal, and a drop of oud. Yessss! If I had more money this week I would have bought this immediately. All the notes sound like they'd be great together, forming the perfect melancholy autumn scent. Can't wait to try it! DIA DE LOS MUERTOS 2007 This is a Mexican paean to La Huesuda: dry, crackling leaves, the incense smoke of altars honoring Death and the Dead, funeral bouquets, the candies, chocolates, foods and tobacco of the ofrenda, amaranth, sweet cactus blossom and desert cereus. I am kinda in the same boat with this one as I am with All Souls. However I do reach for this one in my scent lockets a lot, so I may get a bottle for that purpose... OCTOBER Dry, cold autumn wind. A rustle of red leaves, a touch of smoke and sap in the air. This sounds perfect. I am one of those people that's been lusting after a dry autumn leaves scent, so I was more than pleased to see this. I am really curious how the 'sap' note will add sweetness to this. I will definitely order one soon. SAMHAIN 2007 Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. Yep. I feel like I have to get a bottle of every years' since it's just so good....(however I find I can only begin to wear it once it's aged a bit) SAMHAINOPHOBIA 2007 The fear of Halloween. Menacing Haitian vetiver, patchouli, and clove with a shock of bourbon geranium, grim oakmoss, and dread-inspiring balsams pierce the innocuous scent of autumn leaves. I may get a bottle of this even though I have last year's since it does get a lot of wear from me. This is really an amazing blend for those who love dark vetiver scents... THE ATROCIOUS ATTIC tea rose, violet, white sandalwood, French lavender, and Calla lily. Nooo! The dread tea rose!!!! I am definitely staying far away from this one! THE CHILLING CELLAR Wine just turning to vinegar, crumbling mortar, red clay, and the coppery tang of old blood. I dunno 'bout this one... I wanted to love Fortunato and Montresor, blends that sound similar to this, but they turned into cough syrup on me. However some GC wine blends smell great on me. I may take a chance with this later on based on reviews. THE FORBIDDING FOYER The faint scent of brimstone, ghostly breath laced with cognac, neglected mahogany panels, and rot. Rot- mm! Actually, this one sounds quite appealing to me. I love the GC Brimstone scent, so if this has any similarity it should be a winner. THE GHASTLY GARDEN Overgrown oleander, marshy water hemlock, the sugared nectar of carnivorous blooms, putrefying wet greenery, oozing sap, crushed rosary peas, withered climbing roses, and nightshade berries. This sounds great! I love green garden type scents, so I will be buying a bottle of this one soon. Hopefully the sugared necatr adds a nice unique touch to all the green THE LURID LIBRARY The incense-tinged scent of forbidden tomes and the musk-laden remnants of infernal servants. Incense and musk- a winning combo! Need I say more? THE PERILOUS PARLOR Faint echoes of laughter and the distorted music of a harp drift by, along with the scent of soft white pear and sweet vanilla. This was the first LE that I ordered straight away- I love pear and vanilla, and the two together seem like they would be heavenly. THE TWISTED OAK TREE Blackened, rotted oak wood blanketed in moss and choked by a cloak of grasping ivy. I love wood and forest scents, so I will be at least getting a decant of this one to try out. I think the moss and ivy with the oak will be just divine! If I didn't have to complsively order every lunacy and zodiac, I would have gone straight away for the Pumpkin set. All of these sound so creative and unique- I am definitely saving my money atm for a set... I think this is my favorite of the update, besides Libra 07. PUMPKIN I Pumpkin with pear, white wine grapes, and jasmine-laced tea. I can't wait to see how pumpkin and wine grapes interact with each other. I really have no idea how this one will smell, and the floral tea aspect really makes me curious, too. PUMPKIN II Pumpkin with tobacco, champaca flower, carnation, and tonka. OK this one looks incredible! I love all the notes, and I have never smelled pumpkin and tobacco before- I bet it's heavenly, though, since they are both such warm and bold scents. This seems like it might turn out to be a good 'comfort' blend for me. PUMPKIN III Pumpkin with white chocolate, caramel, pomegranate, and cream. This one I am a little worried about since the 'super foodies' tend to not do very well for me. However Jack works, so there is a chance that this won't give me a headache. I do love pomegranite, so hopefully it will cut out a little bit of the butteriness from the other notes. PUMPKIN IV Pumpkin with cactus blossom, sage, and sweetgrass. Oh, Pumpkin goes west! This one soudns very intriguing. I love the 'western' notes in a lot of other blends, so I'm sure this will work well, too. PUMPKIN V Pumpkin with benzoin, bourbon vanilla, lemon peel, neroli, blood orange, and red ginger. I have to agree with everyone else that this one reminds me of PQ. Sometimes neroli can be sour on me, but I think here it is well tempered by the other notes. I am definitely looking forward to trying this one. A Murder of Crows Sleek iris and verbena, grey amber, benzoin, davana, and glossy herbs. I do love iris, amber and benzoin together, very much. However, I have no idea how the other notes with work with these. I am not itching to try this one, but I do want the whole set anyhow 'cause all the Pumpkins just look so good. I am so glad there are new GC's! I have many more GC's than LE's and find that I do better with most of them... EVENT HORIZON A disconcerting scent, heavy and oppressive, through which no light, no matter, and no spirit can escape. Black opium, labdanum, opoponax, black orchid, and benzoin. This has potential to be amazing, but sometimes opium can go sharp on me. I am definitely trying an imp of this, though, b/c the other notes are all huge favorites of mine. MARY READ Salt air, ocean mist, aged patchouli, sarsaparilla, watered-down rum, leather-tinged musk, and a spray of gunpowder. Hm. Looks good to me. Really good, at that. I think the patchouli and sarsaparilla are going to really give this blend an interesting kick. I am going to get an imp soon and find out, for sure. SCHRODINGER'S CAT tangerine, sugared lime, pink grapefruit, oakmoss, lavender, zdravetz, and chocolate peppermint. I have no earthly idea how this would smell, so of course I am dying to find out This is going on the imp w/l. KUBLA KHAN Through sunlit caves of ice, roses unfurl amidst dancing waves of serpentine opium smoke and amber tobacco, golden sandalwood, champaca, tea leaf, sugared lily, ginger, rich hay absolute, leather, dark vanilla, mandarin, peru balsam, and Moroccan jasmine. This is sounds divine, but I was broke when I ordered and had money for one GC (I got Goblin). I think, though, that I will buy a bottle unsniffed in my next order. It sounds complex and rich like a Salon blend, and very fitting for the poem. I'm excited! EPITAPH Roses and funeral lilies perceived, faintly, through an indistinct, ghostly mist. Unfortunately on me, rose and lily usually equals soap. I am not interested in trying this one. THE PHANTOM WOOER A lifeless love song: stargazer lily, bone dust, tomb mosses, buttonweed, moonflower, and honey myrtle. This one sounds like a floral that might work on me. I love moss and floral; moonflower is a favorite of mine as well. I'm definitely getting an imp of this soon to try it out. A COUNTENANCE FORBODING EVIL Patchouli, ylang ylang, blood orange, and vetiver. This is a NO. Ylang ylang smells like rotting garbage on me. Bleh. I can only imagine how cloying it will be combined with the blood orange! GOBLIN Black coconut, gnarly patchouli, and sweet benzoin. YESSSSSSS. I ordered a bottle immediately. Need I say more? INCUBUS Spectral white musk and the heart-stopping chill of sheared mint, fanned by caramel-touched body heat, and the diabolical sensuality of black musk, nicotiana, and sage. No idea about this one, either. It seems like it could be similar to Bad Luck Woman Blues, which I love. Imp, please. TROLL vetiver, pine pitch, troll musk, black basil, clove smoke, and scorched cumin. This sounds great to a vetiver lover like myself. I wanted to order a bottle straightaway but I had to restrain myself. I bet the cumin and basil will really work together to give this a unique depth. I am definitely ordering a bottle unsniffed soon. HAIRY TOAD LILY Spotty, hairy, purple, sweet! Not left with much to ponder for this one... I have quite a few lily scents from the garden, so I think I will wait on this one and get an imp when all the hype of the Halloweenies dies down. HAVANA Date palm, dried tobacco, snakeroot, and leather. Argh! So many yummy scents!! I really think this sounds incredible. Creamy, smoky and sexy in a tropical swarthy way. A bottle will come to me soon. HI'IAKA maiâ'a, hibiscus, white ginger, akala, na'u, Hawaiian moon flower, yellow ilima, pink lokelani, jewel orchid, and fringed orchid. Oh man, this, too, sounds amazing. Like Havana, it will have to wait. I think I am going to have to plan a massive GC order sometime....where's my winning lotto ticket when I need it? So yeah this was an incredible update. I think it is maybe second to the January CD update that had the Snake Pit (my glee over that was quite impressive). I can't wait to try everything, and hope that maybe some extra cash will come my way so that it's possible...

Delectable! I love lotus, so I was very excited when I got this one as a frimp recently. The amber is pretty quiet in this blend- I detect mostly all lotus, with a little bit of citrus. I love how the citrus makes he floral a bit crisp and juicy. This is a very simple, uplifting scent that lasts quite a while on my skin. It reminds me a lot of Tarot: The Hanged Man, actually (just minus the apple note). Perfect for those quiet, blissful moments.
